The hype around this place is a huge disservice to Milktooth. This restaurant popped up in several lists of places to see in Indianapolis. Since it kept showing up, I figured it was a must try. First, we had to wait in line and that alone was a bit confusing. We walked in and there's just a crowd of people waiting just inside, I wasn't sure if we had to sign in somewhere, stand in a specific area, or even if they could seat us. I saw a woman with a clipboard in her hands talking to a group and writing. She was the one to talk to. She got us written in, and told us the wait should be only 20 minutes for two people. Our wait was just a little bit longer than that, as we waited more people came in and we're also confused as how to get in line. I directed several groups on whom to talk to to get on the wait-list. While waiting you can order at the counter for drinks or pre-made pastries. We were already ready to order since we had ample time to look at the menu. Fortunately we were helped pretty quickly after getting a seated at the bar. Our server was friendly despite clearly being swamped. The food was hit or miss honestly. The Milktooh biscuit was delicious: warm, topped well, and a decent size to share. I also ordered the mushroom pancake. I wanted to like this more, but I couldn't. The outside had burnt spots and the middle had mushy ones. Just really inconsistently cooked. I left a lot of the pancake bits on my plate as I pulled the mushrooms and chard from the batter. It was seasoned well enough. The coffee was good. The food is totally acceptable, but pricey and those things combined made it not worth the wait. TD;LR: The food is overpriced for the most part and you'll wait in line for a while. It's an ok spot, but not really worth it. read more

I'm from SoCal and have been to very, very hipster places (including PDX), but Milktooth might actually take the cake. It's in a converted seven-bay garage and is influenced by all types of cultures - Spanish on the wall directing you to the bathroom, traditional Jewish cuisine with a twist as well as miso soup on the menu) But, I really enjoyed it even though we waited a little over an hour. We had the: *potato & rutabaga latke (acorn squash butter, green harissa cream, scallion) - this was SO good. I don't think I've ever had a latke, but it was tasty. Not too oily. The flavors will the butter, cream and scallion were perfect. *cranberry walnut & geneva & raclette grilled cheese (black truffle honey, local sunny duck egg) - Whew, I'm glad I shared this dish because it was very heavy. Extremely delicious but if I ate the entire grilled cheese myself, I'd definitely fall into a food coma. *indiana hot chicken wings (dried chiles & crystal sauce, bleu cheese dressing, carrot & celery slaw) - this was SERIOUS business. I had been hearing a lot about Milktooth from all my friends since moving to Indy, so I decided to try it last Monday after an exam with some friends. The actual restaurant is SUPER nice, I loved the vibe in there. I got bottomless drip coffee and honestly it was bottomless! Constantly being refilled which I loved. The Chorizo Torta I had was decent. The bread was delicious, but I felt the chorizo could have had a bit more flavor. The beignets with the guava curd were also decent, but not fantastic. I think for me, the issue was the price of the food did not match what I expected to get/the hype I had hear. Plus the immediate added gratuity and extra charge for using a card brought down the rating a bit. And they will have to wait for 2 hours just like the rest of us... I only go in the afternoon (they are open until 3 PM) when the queue has died down (or people have tired of waiting and left). We (party of 4) only waited 20 minutes the last time we were here. There's also self-serve coffee to tide you over (you can purchase pastries too). Once you're seated everything is on point. Service is excellent and the food comes out fast. Prices are more than reasonable for what you're getting. And that is a rethinking of an American breakfast. A vision, if you will. I had not been back to Milktooth for about 4 years and had a rare day off so we made the drive. I had fond memories of the to-go pastries and especially a wonderful vegan spiced cake, sadly no display of tempting treats, maybe a lack of a pastry chef? I had the sourdough waffle with peach compote, vanilla icecream and candied pistachios. The peaches were a visually unappealing tan bland goo, my only complaint of my dish. Strawberries would have added a brighter note and maybe a note of sour, just my opinion. My friend ordered candied bacon and a dutch baby. She really liked both items but wished the dutch baby had more bluberries and the lemon curd on the side. Her dutch baby was tasty but rather deflated as dutch babies go. Tinker coffee did not diappoint, bright , acidic and hot. Warm, friendly and efficient wait staff. Automatically add 20% gratuity, no math needed to calculate the tip. Prices a little higher than expected but that is everywhere with inflation. We lucked out and got a parking spot in the front lot. Not a lot of available parking in the area. Large bus stop platform blocking the view of the restaurant, I almost drove by Milktooth. Note if you are traveling from out of town, the exit ramps are a nightmare! read more

Overall, this place is one of the best in Indianapolis. From the chef who comes up with recipes seasonally and with purpose, every detail of the meals are made to perfection. Yes you may have to wait for 30 mins for a table (no reservations) but you can grab a drink and pastry whilst you wait. Everytime we have been it has been seasonal,fresh and the hosts super helpful and quick. Only thing to note, is that in the past few months an automatic gratuity is applied to the bill and prices have been raised slightly. It is absolutely on us as visitors to tip correctly and to help the business, but I know not everyone appreciates the rise in costs and auto payment. Unpopular opinion I guess but I'm not a fan. The food is so expensive and not great quality at all. I got the sticky bun and the duck egg grilled cheese. The sticky bun was hard and I didn't even finish it because it wasn't great and the grilled cheese was ok but I could've made it at home... couple pieces of bread and a bunch of cheese and super high price for what it was. The duck egg was really good and had a lot of flavor, so 3 stars instead of two, but that was really the only impressive part. I got two things and my bill was 35 dollars and I regretted every dollar. Sorry! Wanted it to be great but maybe other dishes would be a better choice. If you want a good brunch I would head to LouVino or Love Handle instead of here. And I live across the street so I'm super disappointed. read more

Let me preface my review by saying this is not yolk. This is not Eggs and I. This is not Le Peep. I could go on and on, just want it to be known that this is not the standard brunch spot with standard brunch fare. It is so much more than that. All of the recognition and all of the accolades..and I thought..."OK, whatever, just an overrated gimmick." But I was wrong. I am happy to admit that I was wrong. After going to Milktooth, mind was blown. I got the Korean pancake with a sweet potato latke, hot jam biscuit, and pour over Ethiopian coffee. The flavor profiles, the textures, the dopamine rush, all righteous. Again, this is not the standard brunch fare. My wife, sitting across, made statements that seem mind boggling to me. "Garden Table is better." Nothing against Garden Table which is very good, but No! I say this to warn that if maybe palate is not adventurous or if with family that has a more basic brunch expectation, be prepared that they may be caught off guard. But who cares, bring them anyway! Along with a side of bacon. I had the equivalent of a fancy grilled cheese. I don't recall the name of it. I took the servers recommendation and added a fried egg on top of it. I ordered a beverage as well. We noticed on the menu that a 18% gratuity is added automatically. Plus a 3% charge of you use a credit card. Our bill came to $66 dollars. Why did I wait so long to visit you, dear Milktooth? That in itself is an enigma not to be repeated! Milktooth has that laid-back, hipster cool restaurant vibe reminiscent of Bucktown/Wicker Park in Chicago. If you want cheap, generic brunch food, it surrounds us here in Indiana. Milktooth is not that place, and deserves kudos for its unique offerings and chef-driven (thanks, Mr. Brooks!) menu. You will also pay more for said offerings, and should never rate an establishment based on your inability to recognize this factor. Ok, rant over! I can understand why MT has been nationally recognized, and my experience was no exception. A diverse, ever-changing seasonal menu is what makes this place exciting! I chose an "of the moment" selection, white beans stewed in turnip top italian salsa verde. It was amazingly flavorful and delightfully salty given the feta cheese and olive component. A beautifully positioned, slightly poached (?) egg topped off the dish. I truthfully could have licked the bowl, it was that good! I noticed the gentleman next to me also ordered the same dish and left not a scrap, either. My server was very friendly, albeit a tad slow but the restaurant was full so I'll give her some credit. The hostess pleasantly refilled my coffee without any hesitation. The restaurant's decor paid homage to the Indy 500 (see my bathroom photos), which is very cool in my book. Super busy place but worth the wait. The place looks like an old auto repair shop converted into a cafe. When you walk in, make sure you check in with the hostess that's walking around with a clip board. While waiting, you can help yourself with coffee and order pastries and the coffee bar. After about 45 minute wait, we got seated and placed our order. Love their unique lattes if you like to try something different. Their bacon is nice and thick. Their sweet Dutch pancake is probably the best I've ever had so far and definitely recommend. If you like cheese, the grilled cheese with the duck egg is really good and filling. Let's start with, online says dogs are allowed, they do not specify patio only which I know is an option to specify. I arrive and say I have my service animal with me and the staff proceed to treat me like a criminal for having my dog with me. They bring the manager and she rudely speaks in a sarcastic tone about not allowing dogs and I proceed to say even service animals? And she said yes, but if I provided paperwork I could sit inside which is illegal to ask for documentation and about a persons disability. The ambience and decor is spot on, simple yet rustic and bohemian. The staff is friendly and menu is great. I can't lie, I had to google a few different items on the menu because I'd never heard of them before, but that's the beauty of this restaurant! It's rare that I go to a restaurant that lives up to the hype that Milktooth gets. Locally and nationally applauded, that much praise makes me nervous and often leaves me disappointed. Luckily, Milktooth proved me wrong in so, so many ways. Sure, parking isn't great (it's downtown Indy, after all), and the wait time is obnoxious (1 hour when we went around 11 am on a Sunday), but I can't say I expected much else! Go on a sunny day and indulge in the eatery's coffee and pastry case while you wait: it's worth it! Once we finally got seated, we ordered some tried-and-true favorite recommendations - grilled cheese, hashbrowns, latkes - and some intriguing finds. I think where Milktooth wins is that, due to its no substitution/special request policy, it delivers EXACTLY what it says it's going to. Great first time experience here! I went here for Sunday brunch recently to see what all the hype was about. I definitely understand it. Food was delicious! Arrived around 12:30 to a very busy restaurant. Was told our wait would be about an hour. Luckily my boyfriend wasn't sure what to order so we spent most of the time getting suggestions and looking at pictures, while enjoying some coffee beverages. After an hour we were seated at the bar and placed our orders. I heard great things about the grilled cheese dish and my boyfriend settled with the Dutch pancake with apples. We ordered a side of bacon as well. Once the food came out, I dug in and enjoyed every bit of it. The touch of honey on the grilled cheese really brought the flavor together. I loved having the egg on top as well. The bacon - wow. We couldn't even finish all the bacon but I loved it. We both enjoyed our meals. The items on the menu may seem strange to a first timer, but trust that you will be satisfied with anything, so give it a shot. I would love to come back to try more. Arrived by 9:50am on Saturday morning since they open at 10am. I was met with a long line and no parking. Eventually parked on the street and walked back. Fortunately we were quickly seated on the patio (covered), which overlooks the parking lot. The vibe is trendy and hipster -- set in what appears to be an old service garage. We did not participate in any boozy beverages but instead stuck to coffees. We ordered two things off the menu to share: a berry Dutch baby pancake and the shakshuka. It was not clear listed on the menu that the Shakshuka was not vegetarian otherwise we wouldn't have ordered it. The pancake was good, not great. It was sweet and pillowy (definitely someone with a sweet tooth might like). The glaze seemed to be mostly condensed milk based. The Shakshuka was tasty -- egg cooked perfectly, sauce was spicy, and even the meatballs were spicy. My primary criticism is that it's very expensive and the portions are small. The Shakshuka was truly just 3 meatballs, one egg, and a bit of tangy red sauce. Glad we checked it out, and overall had a nice time, but probably wouldn't come back for brunch. read more

This amazing restaurant was converted from an old garage. In fact, one the baase of one table is an old hydraulic lift. The atmosphere is super cool but even better the food iss amazing. Delightfully Complex and Rich Flavors, Served in SMALL Portions for a High Price. Ever since moving to Indy, I've heard nothing but Rave reviews from all my Yelp friends and local foodies about MilkTooth. "Best Brunch In Town", "Amazing!", "You Have To Go", is the sort of thing I would hear whenever Milktooth was brought up. But for me, Milktooth was just another wannabe "Low Key and Causal" hipster spot that in reality is a High-End restaurant serving up Great flavors for a high price and in small portions. Visited Milktooth with friends on a Saturday afternoon following a workout. Was worried at first that there would be a long line (a red flag by other reviews), but luckily we managed to only have a 20min wait. The menu at Milktooth is Amazing, and forms Milktooth's own unique style of international cuisines morphed into one. Both of my friends and I were starving, and excited about the meal and various dishes, so we ordered 5 dishes to split between the 3 of us. Should be enough...right? Almost every dish was fantastic! I was particularly fond of the Egg Salad and the strawberry Dutch pancake. However, MilkTooth's Soft Egg Congee was the Furthest thing from Congee I've ever had. Congee should be incredibly creamy and rich, with a backdrop of savory notes due to the other components you add (pork, scallion, etc). But Milktooth's Congee tasted like parboiled rice in a salty water solution. Sure its edible and tasted OK, but its most Certainly NOT congee. Additionally, as each item was placed on our table, I became more and more upset on how small the portions were. Ordering 5 dishes to be split between 3 people, I expected at least to be satisfied or somewhat full after our meal. Yet, all 3 us looked at all 5 of our empty plates with the hunger pains only slightly subsided. And with a $100 bill (with drinks and tax), we didn't want to order anymore. Even if I hadn't just come from a workout and was only mildly hungry, the cost-benefit of Milktooth (once you take into account the wait, seating arrangements, price, and average serving size) makes this 3 star ranting warranted. I was in town visiting family over Memorial Day weekend and a few of us opted out of the Indy 500 madness for Sunday fun day brunch! We were expecting quite a wait.. but it only ended up being a 15 minute wait.. which passed by quite quickly with their cocktail and coffee bar as an option while you wait! Also have lovely looking pastries! I had the creamsicle mimosa- which tasted exactly like a creamsicle popsicle! Delicious! The vibe is very chill mid century eclectic. I absolutely loved it! Indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered: Original Dutch baby pancake with shiitake, chocolate chip Dutch baby, and sourdough pearl sugar waffle with rhubarb. For drinks: special jalapeño gin drink of the day, classic mimosa, and bottomless drip. The consensus was the original Dutch baby was the best out of 3! The mix of savory and sweet was so unexpected and absolutely mouthwatering goodness! We enjoyed every bite of everything and left fully satisfied. The jalapeño gin cocktail is something I want to try and replicate at home as it was so lovely and not overpowering in the spice department, but just enough of a kick! The service and staff was super attentive (perfectly done checked in often for refills, but didn't over do it) and impeccable! I will wholeheartedly skip to Milktooth next time I am in Indy! New favorite that is for sure! read more
