Includes Prosecco and maybe grapefruit juice. But, pricey. Bruschetta Bread- 1-missing something - the flavor? Added salt and olive oil. Still, a 1. Soggy and flavorless. Disappointed. Brussels sprouts salad 2, no, a 1. missing something. Dressing? Shredded sprouts, candied cherries, that's all I remember. I left most of it. Keep working on it, chef. Salmon-5 perfectly cooked. We live in the area and never remember to stop there. We had a nice quiet date night. My husband had a beer on tap. I couldn't decide what wine I wanted. We stopped here last year while in town to go to the track and it was delicious. This year, not so much. The vibe was different as well. We ordered the linguine and clams, the clams were out of a jar ( it's summer) and the pasta was spaghetti. Tasted ok but no flare. We also tried a Caesar salad which was just ok. Listen, sometimes the ratings here don't truly reflect the quality of a restaurant and I think that is true for Milano. This is a gorgeous setting with an open kitchen, lovely service and great food. That's the short version. The long: I started with a nice white wine and fresh oysters on the half shell - absolutely lovely. Then, because I wanted to stay light, I went straight to a pasta dish, linguine with white clams and chili flakes, and it was phenomenal. That dish is my first gauge, my litmus test, of any Italian joint and they did such a beautiful job with it - hats off to the kitchen! If I could give negative stars, I would do so. We went to Milano a few years ago and it was mediocre. We went last week with a group of 9. This dump was definitely not our choice. The waitstaff started by getting the drink orders wrong. Then, she failed to take the dinner order from one of our party. The appetizers were awful. Calamari Arrabiata was actually all tentacles with a Vodka Cream sauce. The Minestrone was canned soup with some croutons on top. Entrees? Two people ordered Cioppino. We all know what Cioppino is. What they served was barely cooked Spaghetti in a chunky Tomato sauce with a few Mussels thrown in. The Tortelloni in Cream Sauce was way overcooked Tortelloni with no sauce. No one finished their entrees as they were all terrible. Dessert? The Cheesecake was frozen solid. Enough said. Milano is in Newton Plaza, so a lot of pretentious people go there thinking it's a great dining experience. There are many great restaurants locally. Milano is not one of them. read more

I was looking forward to eating here. If you come here on a date, the ambiance, and the lighting is adequate for a romantic dinner. They have a nice bar and an outside eating area. We started things off with Bruchetta, which is where my disappointment began. While it is a decent size, it lacks freshness and lightness. I felt like I was eating a mix of salsa and fresh tomatoes on crispy bread around the edges and incredibly soggy in the middle. I ordered Rigatoni Alla Salsiccia, while my friend selected Parmigiana Di Pollo. Both of our spaghetti were undercooked. While my pasta was edible, my friend's was firm and required more time to become al dente. My plate included sausages, mushrooms, red peppers, onion, and spinach, but I could barely identify the sausage. The plate was loaded with red peppers and onions, and I started fishing to see if I could find some sausages. The chicken proved to be the saving grace. It was juicy and well-seasoned. I wish I had ordered that instead, although I'm not sure about the well-undercooked spaghetti. Lisa, our waitress, was fantastic; she checked on us and made sure we were okay. One final thing I almost forgot to add. While the venue is wonderful for the things I mentioned earlier, while we were there, a 7-top was quite loud, which would have thrown off a romantic dinner. I made a reservation for 12 for January 13, 2025 at 5:30pm on December 16, 2024. I was texted a confirmation. Luckily one of the people look at their website to see the menu the day before and noticed a notification that they are closed for reservations from January 13th through January 28th. Menu tries to impress you but completely fails with what gets delivered to your table. Very disappointed in my first (and last) meal at Milano. I ordered the Linguine Vongole e Peperoncino, a simple Linguine in clam sauce. The dish was so heavy with lemon that it hid any other flavors, aside from the abundant pepper flakes, which added plenty of heat. The pasta was tough but the clams were tougher. I've been served clam dishes before where you might find a clam or two that were chewy, but these were impossible to eat, every single one! Our server was pleasant enough, but at no time did she check to ask how things were. My wife didn't fare much better with her Ceasar Salad, saying that it was underwhelming and overpriced for the little they served. read more

Stopped at Milano last evening on the chance they could accommodate our party of four without reservations. Fortunately for us, we were able to be seated immediately at a great outside table. Server greeted us quickly, providing us with insight into the restaurant and cuisine, highlighting the evenings special menu and highlighting wine list. We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and a Malbec which he promptly served to the table. Milano has a wood fired pizza oven. We took advantage, ordering a large Margarita to enjoy as an appetizer. Also shared the calamari, a slightly spicy grilled variation with a great blend of olives, tomatoes and garlic. Both were very satisfying, resulting in clean plates back to the kitchen. Menu is a extensive as well as truly representative of Northern Italian cuisine. Pasta is all house made. For entrees, we ordered beet salad (outstanding), cioppino (ditto), and linguine with clams. A word to the wise on linguine with clams. Sauce is spiced with Calabrian chili. If you like spice, you'll love the dish. Milano has a full bar, extensive wine list and a menu that can accommodate any taste. Service is harried, but attentive and helpful. We'd do it again. Great spot. read more

An Albany gem! Or Loudonville actually :) I've been dining here every week, for the last six months. Milano is always bumping/happening, has a great bar that always has people chatting away, nice crowd of people who are interesting to talk to. Thursday nights are always bumping, with a more hip crowd. The management is very attentive. The GM is always there to greet, check on you, and I see her working, bringing out food, and taking the time to get to know each guest. The wait staff is excellent. Marissa is simply the best. If I miss a week she notices! And the bartender is amazing, a real talent, totally staying on top of the bar at all times, with her drinks creative and delightful. I brought the my team from my office and they did not want to leave. I personally love the burrata for a starter and then the salmon, but the best is their pizza and bread. Secret weapon? They have a great pizza oven and their Margarita pizza is to die for. I order an extra and take it home! Their chef's fish specials are really good, as well as their pasta choices. Big windows bring in lots of light, nice shopping plaza with great wine store and more, so you feel good being there. read more

My friends and I went to Milano's last night for a get-together. The newly redesigned interior looks clean and modern, though I personally found it a bit dull. The service was better than my past visits, which had been quite slow. However, after our meals were served, it took the waitress a while to check in on us. By the time she did, our already lukewarm meals had gone completely cold--every single one of them. None of us managed to finish our food, and by the time she returned, it felt too late to address the issue. We didn't want to wait another 20-30 minutes for replacements. When we asked her to inform the chef, she returned about 10 minutes later, offering to reheat our meals. We politely declined. That was the end of it--the bill arrived with no gesture of compensation. Disappointing, to say the least. read more

Absolutely wonderful! We met up with a good friend for lunch. Located conveniently in the Newton Plaza shopping strip, Milano is easy to get to, close to everything, and provides easy parking. The restaurant is beautiful and spacious, yet warm and cozy. They have bar side high tops- perfect for happy hour get together, an outside patio for warm weather, and ample comfortable dining tables. The drink menu offers selection of tasty, smart cocktails and very nice wine selection. We had a delightful blood orange cosmopolitan and glass of an Italian white wine that we just loved. Our friend had a Caesar salad with salmon. She swooned over it (particularly the perfectly cooked salmon.) Hubby and I shared a side Caesar salad - with actual real white anchovies(!) One of the best we've had in years. I had the warm Brussels sprouts salad (from the specials menu) with spinach, tomatoes, butternut squash, and filet mignon strips). This was truly healthy New Year comfort food! It was flavorfully, yet, delicately seasoned. Scrumptious! Hubby also ordered from the specials menu and had the bolognese. He loved it! It was fresh, tomatoey, balanced and authentic. What stood out for all was how vibrant and fresh everything was to the eyes, mouth, nose. Our server was attentive, friendly, experienced and was the proverbial ribbon on top. I've had a few other visits to Milano's over the past year and it's been consistent. Consider biting into a pizza with a crust that is so rigid that it hardly bends. The sauce has little depth of flavor and is a bland, thin slop. With each bite, the thin, cold, and ill-distributed toppings slide off the oily, solidified cheese. Standard continental food fare. I think of it as standard, because with the exception of daily specials, the menu infrequently veers from a menu familiar to steadfast diners. I miss the variety of quasi French offerings from its sister restaurant Provence (now closed) - the onion soup, the different iterations of escargot, their raspberry chocolate mousse, and huîtres. It would be wise to offer them at Milano. The restaurant has a strong following in the immediate area I.e. Loudonville, Menands and Latham. Inevitably, if you reside there, you will always meet someone you know. The service is phenomenal. The servers know how to serve, decanter wine, and when to remove plates. (I have a pet peeve about removing plates while your dinner companion is still eating.) Do I recommend it? Yes. The prices have increased so much that Milano's has become a " special occasion " restaurant. read more

Wonderful dinner out. Began with a delightful glass of rose'. My niece and I decided to split a salad and a pizza. Since they have daily specials we choose both the salad of the day and the pizza of the day. The salad was scrumptious. I love the fact that it was served to us already split so we each were given a plate with a beautiful presentation. There was a side of acorn squash mousse and the salad consisted of arugula and a dusting of pecans with three generous pieces of cured duck breast on top. It was fabulous. The pizza was cooked perfectly with a thin crust and no burning of the under crust. The toppings consisted of tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil and it was finished with a drizzle of aged balsamic. In all honesty the margarita pizza from milano is probably the worst pizza I have ever had in my entire life. It should not even be on the menu - it had soggy pink tomatoes with barely any basil and huge cloves of garlic, in no way is that what a margarita pizza should look like. The entrees came out lukewarm if not completely cold on the inside. I have eaten better tortellini in Olive Garden. You also pay $15 dollar for a specialty cocktail that has minimum effort put into it. I understand paying $7 at a college bar for it but $15 in a restaurant for a mediocre drink is an atrocity. We were seated at an end table/booth centimeters away from others and the bathroom door which kept slamming onto our backs every time it opened. Came here last night with my boyfriend for my birthday dinner. The food was 6/10 and our server was 2/10. When we sat down, she asked what we wanted to eat without so much as an introduction. We both ordered drinks, and when she came back she mixed up our drinks (giving me my boyfriends drink and vice versa). I don't really care about the mistake, but when I switched them, which she saw me do, she didn't apologize or say anything. She also was very short with us when taking our order... we felt very uncomfortable to say the least. She did not check in with us and did not thank us for our business. I was extremely disappointed with my dinner tonight at Milanos from the minute I entered. I made reservations on line. The choices for seating were bar, high top, or standard. I chose standard. When we arrived I informed the hostess we had reservations. Where does she seat us? A high top at the bar -- specifically where I asked not to be seated. When I told her our reservation was for standard seating, she rolled her eyes and seated us in the requested area. Then we ordered our wine and food. Out came soft focaccia, resembling drenched white bread. I prefer a real Italian crusty bread. And our waitress forgot our drinks and needed to be reminded way after our salads came out. My dish, the scallop puttanesca was sub par. I've had puttanesca pasta in many restaurants and this was definitely the worse. Very heavy on the cheese or cream and no detectable anchovies. The scallops were over cooked. My husbands linguini clams were just okay. The best part of the meal was the garlic spinach (not on the menu, but I requested if I could get a veggie). I frequent in the Capital Region on business have dined at Milano for over a decade. It's an excellent place to meet for lunch, dinner or just cocktails and appetizers. Casual and fancy at the same time, the atmosphere is always lively. It's upscale enough for business but laid back enough for a leisure night on the town and gives me a sense of what it must be like to be in a real Italian bistro. Their al fresco seating with linen table cloths is especially classy in the warmer months. Everything they make is delicious and fresh. Ive enjoyed many things on their menu including fresh pastas, steaks, pizza, sandwiches and salads. Their service staff is always first rate and can accommodate any special dietary request that you may have. I know that I can always count on Milano for a great experience! read more

We went to Milano for the first time today, and we definitely won't be going back. To say the service was terrible would be an understatement. Our pizza sat on the counter getting cold because the server was MIA. I was going to get up and take it myself, but I flagged down the other server and she did it for me. Same thing happened when I asked for the check. I could see if it was busy or they were understaffed, but they weren't. As far as the food goes, mediocre at best. Came here a couple of weeks ago and will probably not be returning anytime soon unless it's the most conveniently located place or someone else wants to go there. The restaurant was fairly busy for a Saturday night but seating was immediate. The seating by the way is something I'm not a fan of. There are a few solo tables throughout the back part of the restaurant but for the most part the seating gives off a communal dining experience. One long booth on one side of the table and chairs on the other. While I'm sure my neighbors were ok people, I really don't like being *thisclose* to random people while I'm eating unless I expect it. We started off with bruschetta since the list of starters wasn't all that great and offered few options. We got a bit excited when we saw calamari but I was in the mood for the crispier kind, not the sauced version. The bruschetta by the way was garlic bread with cheese. I guess when you ask to omit tomatoes they assume you're 5 years old and want garlic bread with cheese. It was fine, but way greasy and heavy. For my entree I asked for it to be made without tomatoes. Not that I don't like tomatoes I just don't like chunks of them. When the dish came the waitress said "ooh, it looks like one may have slipped in there, let me know if it's ok". I would have told her a whole tomato must have slipped in there had she ever come back. I had a bread plate full of the things by the time I was done! The dish was a tortellini in creamy tomato sauce. The sauce was watery and didn't seem all that creamy. It didn't thicken up a bit as it sat there. My daughter ordered the spinach linguine with pesto and veg. Now I know pesto is basically olive oil, basil, and other flavors of one's choice, but the pasta here came in a pool of oil. I wouldn't have even touched it but D. was hungry so she attempted to eat it. The spinach pasta by the way didn't look like spinach pasta at all, very greyish and unattractive. After eating less then half of it, I told her to stop because all the oil would probably make her sick and she looked like she hated it. I would have told the waitress this, but guess what? She never checked in. I excused myself to use the ladies room, expecting to come back and get the obligatory dessert offer. Which would have been nice. I wanted creme brulee and it's a simple enough recipe to not screw up. However I came back to find the check on the table. D. said "the waitress just dropped it off, guess we're not getting dessert". Maybe it was on off night, I don't know. The place gets crowded and it's been open for years. I've had a couple good lunches here and this was my first dinner experience. Maybe it's crowded due to lack of non-chain options in the area. I noticed some of the other reviews raved about the pizza, which I've had and it is good. However I expect good pasta at an Italian restaurant as well. My dinner doesn't leave me wanting to make a trip back, it leaves me wanting to avoid it! read more

Summary- Bugs drive downgrade to one star although I am not sure I would have gone any higher than 2 without bugs as this place is overpriced mid level Italian. Atmosphere- 0 Stars Before we got our appetizer we noticed this little bug crawling across the table, and we wrote it off because it's just one bug. Then after we had eaten our dinners we saw a similar bug of slightly larger size. This was curious, so we began to look around and noticed quickly that the mega sized planter/urn thingy that was in between some tables and had some branches poking out of it appeared to be crawling with them. They were all over the branches, which were hanging over at least two tables (one being ours). Harmless or not, it was gross and surprising that it hadn't been noticed by an employee as it was obvious to us. See pics for verification of nasty. My little sister approached the Host and our waiter who were standing next to each other. She explained the issue nicely and quietly, specifically mentioning that bugs had fallen directly onto our table. The reaction was something like, OK, thanks for letting us know. We were surprised by the apparent lack of concern to say the least, quickly paid the bill and left without anything else. I understand bugs happen, but the apparent lack of follow-up was ridiculous. Service- 1 Star Waitress was nice enough but over whelmed and slow, left us hanging a few times between entrees etc. The service loses major points for reaction to bug thing. I think they should have at least attempted to make us happy (or even offer to move us to another table). Food- 2 Stars First off I am not sure if they are just trying to save money, but why bring three small pieces of bread to a table of four people? Appetizers were good, Calamari was better than the Carpaccio, which was quality meat but had a overwhelming heavy handed sauce and was a tiny tiny portion for the money. Salads were meh, nothing bad nothing good either. My entree, the special which was a chorizo cream sauce with fettuccine and chicken was good if not a little muddled where I couldn't taste any specific flavors in it. Everyone else also enjoyed their entrees for the most part. Their strength is definitely their pastas and pizzas. Value- 1 Star It's expensive and nothing special stands out. Milano is a pleasant dining experience with excellent service. We enjoyed our evening out here. As for the food.... The bread and pesto dip was very good. We shared a spinach salad topped with Gorgonzola, onions, and walnuts. It was very salty for my palate and really needed something sweet to balance the scales, fruit, candied nuts, something... We shared the sausage pizza. The crust was top notch, hand tossed, thin and crispy. The pizza itself lacked some salt and seasoning ironically after our experience with the salad. We also shared one of the specials, and shrimp and spinach pasta dish. Not a home run for me. The pasta felt heavy and bulky. The sauce was good, but the dish was missing something, another dimension of flavor. Like I said, service was excellent. They split the dishes for us straight from the kitchen when they found out that we'd be sharing. They were very attentive. I also appreciated being able to make reservations online. read more
