They were also selling sides of elote street corn, esquites corn, mango on a stick, watermelon cup, and agua fresca. We were warmly/cheerfully greeted by the couple who own Milanes, a bright in a somewhat blighted strip shopping center in McKees Rocks. The colors and decor in this small space transport you to Cuba. But it's clearly the menu that's the star. My hubs & I got there far too early, but happily, that enabled us to try what was one of our fave meal items: Guava BBQ chicken bites. It wasn't clear that these are deep-fried, and while I wouldn't normally order deep-fried stuff, this was a happy moment for us. These things are like crack! Cooked perfectly and slathered perfectly in the sweet/tart sauce. Oh! Yum! (The woman who clearly makes the desserts and also was running the register offered to just keep a check open for us when we were ready to order entrees. Helpful!). The sisters in law arrived, and it was time to order. You order your food at the counter before sitting down. Our choices: *A tip first -- the red beans are *killer* - smoky yumminess! Try to get these with your dish! We didn't know this till we tried one of our SIL's dishes. * Milanes Imperial rice bowl: tender, slow-braised chicken shredded over (a lot) of yellow rice & black beans. Queso & yummy garlic sauce were drizzled over the top. Perfectly cooked, scrumptious sweet plantains (another fave!) were served on the side. Overall, the dish was good and quite filling - but we wished there was more garlic sauce. The fish was a bit dry. * La Completa rice bowl: similar to above but with ground beef and homemade pico de gallo. Good dish. * Havana Street Beef rice bowl: Probably the standout fave. The succulent, slow-cooked beef with those smoky red beans - hard to beat! Dessert --- none for us, but one of the SILs snagged a flan. It was chilled & the carmelized top had hardened into a rock-hard caramel candy, but wowzer, the creamy/carmelly flavor of the custard. YUM! Only regret ---- one of us should've ordered their highly-recommended Cuban sandwich! Maybe to try for next time: The homemade guava pastelito. Woah, it looked good. Since it's a food truck, there's not too much to say about it other than it's pretty nondescript as a food truck and that there were two people working inside on this day. For our dinner on this day I ordered the chicken Diablo fries while my wife ordered the steak fries. Then we also ordered one each of their three empanadas: chicken, shrimp and beef. On my previous visit I had also tried the chonpon and like it, especially with the chimichurri. On this day there wasn't a big crowd and so our food came out in a more than reasonable time period. The empanadas were as good as I remembered here as the dough is crazy light and airy but with a nice texture to it. Out of the three empanadas, the shrimp was my favorite but I have to admit that all 3 were good. After those I moved onto my chicken Diablo fries and can confirm that they were spicy. What initially looked like tomatoes was actually a well spiced pepper that not only had a bit of heat but a great flavor as well. Then the chicken was cooked nicely and who doesn't love fries and cheese? My only complaint was that the fries weren't as crispy as I would have liked. Meanwhile my daughter ate all of the steak off of the fries she was sharing with my wife and enough of the fries and cheese that we bought another. So clearly it was a winner for both her and my wife. That extra fries actually had much crispier fries on it and I wonder if it just took a while for their fryer to heat up. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both times that we have been here my wife and I have enjoyed the food and especially thought that the empanadas were a home run.

Our go-to's are the Carne Asada or Campechano burrito which are very hearty and filled with all the classics - rice beans, lettuce, cheese, sour cream. They serve the burritos with three salsas: a hot, medium verde, and mild pico - all three are delicious! The staff is friendly and the food is always ready very quickly.
