Terrible experience. Now I remember why I stopped eating here. The food was just bad. Ordered the surloin steakgreen beans and curly fries. Steak was the worst cut it was 2 times thicker on one end than the other. So when I ordered medium I guess if you average the skinny piece that was well done with the thicker end that was rare you get medium. The meat was like chewing a boiled golf ball. It was tough. I ordered green beans. They had so much pepper in them that's all I could taste. The fries were cold. Honestly, Mik's is like a bad boyfriend. You see potential. You want it to work out. This place is a hidden little gem, in a small southern town. It's food is very flavorful and packs a positive punch to your taste buds. It's a small restaurant with a bar and a very friendly and hospitable staff. I ordered the boom boom chicken, which was two chicken breast seasoned and smothered in a delicious cheese sauce. It was topped with perfectly cooked bacon, with just the right amount of crispy. (As The Good Lord intended it to always be.) I got a fully loaded baked potato and potato wedges as my side orders. Two starches, because I'm in the south and why not ? Everything was cooked perfectly and my food came out exactly as I ordered it and timely and the service was super friendly and fast and efficient. Truly delicious, and I highly recommend this little spot to anyone in the area. The price point was great and affordable, and the quality of the food was outstanding as was the service and ambiance. I'm local to the area, and eat here pretty regularly. They usually have specials on certain nights of the week (half off appetizer Monday, wing Wednesday, etc). The food is pretty good, and is consistent. Beer cheese with sidewinders are to die for and any of their burgers are a good choice. Wait staff are nice and helpful but the dining room is a little small. Plenty of TVs with ball games as well as live music from time to time. The only complaint is that the food takes a while to come out, more often than not. read more

My experience here was very mixed...service started out great then took a nosedive, some food was good and some was not! I value consistency. We were greeted when we walked in and directed to the right side near the bar. Small, dark area with a 3-4 high tops and a couple regular tables. Space is a little cramped in my opinion, plus it has carpet, yikes! Restaurant has a very dated look inside and out. The left is obviously reserved for groups or special people because shortly after we arrived, people began seating themselves in this area...hmm, okay. Our drink order was obtained fairly quick and we ordered Miks Chips with Beer Cheese and the fried pickles as apps. I got a DRAFT Shock Top to drink! Yes, they have a small DRAFT selection! One tick in their favor. The couple across from us finished up pretty soon after we ordered and I heard the waitress ask the female patron, "You didn't like the burger, huh?" The female shook her head, "No" but after the waitress left and her male companion whispered in her ear, she began wolfing the burger down. Odd to say the least! Anywhos, my son ordered a full rack of ribs with fries and I ordered a Angus TBone or Porterhouse but they were out so I had to settle for a Ribeye steak. Let me be clear, I do not like ribeyes so I shouldn't have ordered it but I was in the mood for a steak. I ordered it medium rare with a loaded baked potato and a side salad. The shock top draft beer was great, they even served it in a shock top glass with an orange slice! Thank You! The chips and beer cheese were excellent! Chips were fresh and crisp! The dip was warm and smooth! Really, really good! My son really enjoyed the fried pickles. They weren't greasy nor burnt like most places do, they were perfect! My side salad came out before meal as expected and I was impressed, bed of mixed greens, fresh sliced veggies on top and the blue cheese dressing was wonderful! Very good salad! Now, on to the entrees, my son's ribs were so freaking good, I kept reaching over and stealing a couple times! Those suckers were so meaty, tender and moist, they're AMAZING! He said they weren't the best he'd had but I disagree. He likes Applebee's but I'm here to tell you, Applebee's ain't got nothing on these ribs! Unfortunately, there's another reason I kept stealing ribs, my ribeye was a mess. It was not medium rare except on one corner and that's the corner I ate. The rest was done so I took it home for puppy. Now for the service, well, this is where it ended, food was served and she disappeared. I did manage a second Shock Top before her disappearing act but once we were done, we sat for a good 10 minutes with nothing, no check, no boxes, nothing...I believe, the manager stopped by and asked if we needed anything after he served food to another table. Ok, so there were plenty of great things about this visit but the downside was service, the steak and I feel it's a little overpriced for quality, especially based on the ribeye and atmosphere! I will likely return because the ribs were so darn good but I guess I'll ask for everything I need including the check when food hits the table. Don't let looks fool you- parking is tight and outside doesn't look like much. BUT come on in! First, the ladies room was pristine-not something you normally find in a bar. Great local bar atmosphere. Staff friendly and attentive. The food - as my husband said, my turkey (one of the day's smoked meats) was "stupid good"! He would have like a third slice of brisket on his sandwich to make it a little more substantial and because it was so flavorful! Worth the 4 mile detour off US-40 if you are looking for a family friendly stop . Was busy for a Thursday night (trivia night) and was quick to bring out drinks. We had ribs, wings and burgers and all were very tasty. The only downside was that food was a little slow to get out. A solid 4 stars!!! Great food. Great service. Extremely accommodating and welcoming. You couldn't ask for better. Definitely more of a bar environment but we were there with our four boys and after being seated, never felt out of place and a local family with 2 kids walked in near when we were finishing our meal. A smallish place so bigger parties might have a challenge being seated. But trust me, they will do their absolute best to find you a place. I had a rare ribeye sandwich and it was perfect. The side salad was true quality!!!! We took a little side trip off the highway to get here, had a little trepidation when we walked in, but have absolutely NO REGRETS in the end. We were driving through Wallace (from Raleigh) to run errands and decided to give this place a try. We were not disappointed. It looks like a classic dive bar, which is basically what it is, but it's a GEM. I had the boom boom chicken, which I would recommend any day of the week and my fiancé had some wings. My entree came with TWO sides so I got the house made chips with beer cheese and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was nothing to write home about, but the beer cheese was pretty good. The chips were excellent, and I'd recommend dipping them in both the aforementioned beer cheese and the ranch (if you're a ranch person, theirs is great). All in all we were glad we stopped in. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgable, in addition to just being a very nice person and fun to chat with. read more

I have longed for my own "Cheers" spot for many years. When I discovered Mik's, I knew that I had found just that. The menu offers something for every palate, and I have yet to be disappointed in what Parker and the kitchen prepares. Whether you have a hankering for something like nachos or fried 'shrooms or mozerella sticks, steak, burger, or seafood, it's here. There are specials and depending on the day, you may find fall off the bone ribs or even smoked turkey or salmon on the menu. The bar is well stocked with your favorite spirits and a great selection of beers. The tea is great (never patronize any food establishment that has bad tea... it ain't Southern and probably is a health risk!), and other beverages for the small fry and non-imbibers are available. This is a place where you will come to think of the staff as close friends, and you'll find you and your cohorts gathering here often like a "drop in" family reunion spot. Oh... and trivia! We play team trivia at 7:30 on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and I find it to be like a Chuck E. Cheese's for adults. :-D We have a great time, pick up some new knowledge, and have the opportunity to win Mik's gift certificates for out-thinking your opponent teams! This place has a lot of great reviews - I just don't get it.. Husband and I are traveling through NC and Wallace (the town) seems to be about right for dinner, timewise. I look at some reviews of restaurants and Mik's looks good. Things start off well, staff seems friendly and the place is packed, we seat ourselves as instructed, and gdt drinks ordered and put in our food order as well pretty quickly. Husband's salad comes out pretty fast. Food follows in a few minutes. Here's where everything kind of grinds to a halt and gets weird. I ordered clams and calamari, hubs ordered cod and a crab cake. Hubby's cod is good, crab cake is pretty good too. My stuff, however, is way overcooked. We were kind of pressed for time, so at first I'm thinking I can deal with it, but that calamari was cremated, and you do not want to eat overcooked calamari - it turns to rubber. And it's such a delectable dish when properly cooked - *sigh*. So I tell the waitress that it had nothing to do with her or her service, that was fine (and it was up to that point) but to please tell the kitchen not to overcook the calamari in future. If we had had time, I would have asked for a replacement (I'm betting the person who cooked it thought twice about sending it out but just said what the hell), but as I said, we were pressed for time. So we put in an order for peach cobbler and another woman from the kitchen brought it out. It's apple. Nope nope nope. Now the water glasses are empty. I have to wave somebody down (the waitress who's NOT our waitress keeps trying to help us but I keep trying to just have OUR waitress help us because that doesn't seem fair to her - it seemed like she's used to stepping in for her co-worker though) to bring us PEACH cobbler or find out whether there's any left, that's OK too, I'm a big girl, I can deal with disappointment. But the same lady comes out of the kitchen and explains that peach and apple cobbler look a lot alike. Huh? Yeah they kind of do, I'm thinking, they're both cobblers but... Anyway, we shake it off and go on. And go on and on and on waiting for cobbler. And water. I'm SO thirsty. We never get another drop of water and the cobbler we get has a piece or two of peach in it and it was prepare with much too much sugar, and served with the cheapest vanilla ice cream. Listen, I know I'm not the Duchess of Kent, but hungry, thirsty travelers just want to be fed, watered, and out the door in a reasonable amount of time. I can overlook a few things but it just gets over the top ridiculous right here. I'm waving my arms like someone on a deserted island spotting a boat on the horizon, trying to get someone to just finally bring us our check. Another lady offers to get our waitress to bring it. She finally brings it, but not a word about the the wait, the lack of service, the empty water glasses; I didn't hear a thank you, not a please pay up front, nor I'll take your money. My husband finally goes up front to pay because he has NO idea. Turns out you DON'T go up front, your WAITRESS is supposed to take your money. But she's MIA, just as she has been since 20 minutes into our unfortunate visit here. It seems to be a popular place with the locals, but I can't recommend it all. read more

Never again! Went to Mik's with my family tonight for the first time, while I'm in town visiting and I will never go back after tonight's experience. To start off I was unsure of what to get since it was my first time there, the waitress suggested a chicken wrap so I got the chicken wrap with chips & cheese dip. The wrap was burned completely black and the chips were extremely salty. The waitress never came back to our table the entire time we were there until she came to ask about the check, not to ask about the food or even refill drinks. So when she comes to ask about the check I mentioned that my wraps were burnt and the chips were salty she says well that's just how it's made and walked off. First off it was clear the food wasn't good I had a full plate of food left. Long story short awful food and even worse service! I've never been out to eat and the waitress never once comes over to the table to refill drinks or ask about the food during the entire dining experience. read more

Arriving late into town, I found Mik's on Yelp. Thank goodness! The kids were starving and mommy and daddy needed a beer lol. I called them twice to make sure they were open, serving food & drinks, and ready for us. They welcomed us with a smile and cooked us up some very yummy food. We ended up eating at Mik's 4-5 times this week, and everything was delicious! We tried wings, nachos (yes with broccoli-AMAZING!), brisket, ribs, burgers, and more. Taylor was our server and even though she was only one of two on the floor, she was awesome and it seemed as if the other one was too. Very friendly. They have a pretty big menu and a full bar. Food was good but overpriced. We paid 7.95 for 6 mozzarella sticks. Bit high. When your customers make the statement that we are freezing and it's cold in here. That's a good indication that it's to cold!! Not real sure why your classic burger is $9.00 but it's smaller than a 1/4 burger at Hardee's Why is curly fries the only fries you offer? Classic fries should always be on the menu. And last if the restaurant fills up with smoke from the kitchen. Turn on the smoke eaters in the kitchen!!!! Not a pleasant dining experience!!!
