Beef and Lamb Gyro Platter.
Sade P.

I have been here twice now for lunch. Both times I have gotten the beef and lamb gyro platter. Both times were a hit. The food is flavorful and appropriately priced. I do wish the platter had more meat but I just ordered extra meat for an additional cost. They originally brought out our lunches and forgot the extra meat and I had to ask after a few minutes but then they were on top of it and brought it out. It was delicious. It was not super packed so we were able to get a seat right away. The servers were friendly. The restaurant ambiance gave casual Greek. I would definitely return for lunch.

Grilled Octopus

What a hommie place! Family-owned and wow what a difference. This place has one of the best grilled octopus dishes I have had in my life! Perfectly cooked which is no easy thing to do. Service is great, like family- how can someone not like that? Ambiance is a cozy diner. Very relaxing. Quiet and warm. I will be returning with my wife. We love this place. They use amazing olive oil on their food, makes a difference.

So I've lived many years in Astoria Queens so my standard for Greek food is high. While the food was very good, the atmosphere cozy, I feel it could have been a lot better. For example, the house salad could have had some feta cheese on it. The waiter was very pleasant but struggled with our order and told us that he didn't speak English so it was a bit of a challenge.

I have been going here for years and it is one of the best restaurants in the area! The food is always incredibly fresh and delicious, no matter what you order. The owner is extremely kind and makes everyone feel welcome and at home. It feels like you are stepping into a relatives home and they are cooking you a home cooked meal. Whether you are looking for a place to grab lunch, a weekend dinner or a place to gather with friends, this is the place to be! Highly recommend!!

Food was excellent. Mediterranean seafood platter. Very tasty and full of variety. Nice atmosphere too, even the music was relaxing. Service was pleasant...they just need to get organized as a lot if people were quite frustrated with it. If they get that right I'll be back.

The Greek Isles decor

My sister, husband and I went here for lunch. It was slow getting in an order, but once we were able to do so, service was friendly and prompt and the food came out hot. The food was also good and reasonably priced. Everything we ordered was good - Greek meatballs, spanikopita and moussaka platters with side salads and lemon potatoes and a gyro platter with French fries and taziki sauce. We finished up with a semolina orange cake and a kataifi, which is a pastry made of shredded phylo dough with nuts, cinnamon and honey, and Greek and regular coffees - all very good. The decor is a nice blue, Aegean decor with relaxing music played in the background. Finally, a plus is that the restaurant is BYOB, so we brought a good Greek wine to complement the meal. I would return again.

Liga Apo Ola (Small Size) - Excellent

Take out review. Had a nice little spread from Mikonos while staying in Bordentown last weekend. Not sure why, but they won't deliver to my home in Hamilton Square but they did deliver to Bordentown despite the fact that it is further away, so we opted to take advantage. I went with the Beftekia, which was the most underwhelming dish of the evening. Basically just a grilled hamburger patty, it was prepared and presented well, it's just...a hamburger patty. The lemon potatoes that accompanied were very good, though. They were much more lemony than many Greek restaurants prepare them, which is a big plus for me. My wife went with the small Liga Apo Ola, which is a combination platter that comes with moussaka, pastichio, spanakopita, dolmades and the aforementioned lemon potatoes. Luckily, she was willing to share, and everything was delicious, with the pasticho being the standout dish. We also shared a Grilled Octopus salad, which was absolutely delicious. The octopus was grilled perfectly, and the accompanying greens were tender and delicious. Finally, I wrapped up the meal with an order of Galagtobureko, which is an automatic for me whenever I eat Greek. Mikonos' version is more of a wrapped phylo-pastry version than I am accustomed to (I've normally had it as the custard layered over the phylo vs. being rolled in it), but it was no less delicious. All in all, this was an excellent meal. I wish they delivered to my house, I'd partake regularly. As it is, I'll have to make due with an occasional special treat.

Chicken Gyro Platter

I love this place. My family and i think this is the best restaurant in the area by far! I would always recommend any of their lamb or beef dishes. Their potatoes usually come very tart (the best way)! Service is usually a little slower, but I believe it's a smaller place and makes up for it in charm. Love it here and will be coming back

Humble, authentic Greek food. The decor is cute & simple. Service was attentive & friendly. Food was authentic, tasty & a great value.

Beef and Lamb Gyro with Greek Salad
Brendan B.

Amazing Greek food, I'm a big fan of lamb & beef gyros but only if they're done right and they made it to perfection. Great tzatziki sauce and warm, soft pita bread! The Greek side salad was also great, fresh feta and all veggies were fresh with a nice crisp crunch! Definitely will come back when in the area!

My food was perfectly prepared. The fresh pita was so unlike the ones served in most restaurants. These were light, soft & airy & perfect for the lamb gyro I ordered. The lamb was tender & perfectly seasoned. I asked for extra tzatziki sauce when I ordered, but it wasn't on my plate. I asked again when our waitress brought our food, but she disappeared. Nobody was answering the loud phone that kept ringing at the front desk. I finally asked another waitress for the tzatziki, & she came back after a while with a small container of an almost frozen sour cream with dill dip, not a true tzatziki- very disappointing! The final insult was being charged an extra .50 cents for the frozen dip. The service was absent. But my lamb gyro was excellent. I also asked for extra well-done fries with no salt & they were perfect, hot & extremely crispy. I'm sure this was a case of understaffing or something because this restaurant has such a great reputation. Again, the food was perfectly prepared & on point, but our server wasn't having her best day of service.

Apps this time included cold dips and my favorite version of grape leaves. Meat dishes - especially lamp chops and blackened salmon were big winners. Carb cakes also crispy to perfection. Lemon potatoes were the all around favorite. Baklava was a treasured dessert and converted even my picky younger daughter over to Baklava (chocolate mousse also rich and delish). So glad we have had many great meals here and that Canal Street was such a nice place to have a weekend dinner with friends.

The peaches in the salad took advantage of the season. My friend and I split the bobs special and barramundi. I ate the barramundi which was fresh and delicious. The sides of mashed potatoes and spinach were equally good. My friend loved his eggplant parm. I thought the bobs special was good but I was full by then. When you walk in there is sort of a vestibule before the dining room, but it felt as if we had actually come in by the wrong door -- I'm still not sure. Either the front door is well hidden or the entrance is not very welcoming, and there was no one there to greet us. Once seated, however, the atmosphere was charming. We had some light trouble communicating with the staff. It wasn't at all clear who the three different people who visited our table were. The youngest one, in particular, spoke so fast and low that it was difficult to follow him, and even though the room was relatively quiet. The food made up for some of our difficulties. The cioppino, in particular, was excellent, even if it didn't contain exactly the items listed in the menu; it's the nature of the dish. Once we had our meals, everything was quite agreeable. The food was great; the rest of the experience kind of 'mid.' It seemed that if we were regulars, already acquainted with the idiosyncrasies of the place, we would have been more comfortable, but as first-timers it was all a bit discomfiting. I suppose would go back again, but it hasn't won it's way into a spot among my favorites.

It was fresh and full of good stuff...just the right amount of slopy where you could still pick it up to eat it. Yum. I would get that again. The place is clean and a good size. Additional tables outside. Food...all fresh ingrediants. Impressive. Although, my friend's sandwich had raw bacon on hers...my bacon was crispy and good. I guess it happens sometimes. Ordering is done on computers...like WaWa. My other friend had a hard time ordering...after all, people over 60 kinda missed that modern technology curve. I helped her order. And, where it said "instructions" we put in dry toast and eggs over medium. I suggested she follow up at the counter to make sure it was cooked to her liking. She did! But unfortunately, eggs were fried omelet style and toast had butter. A big FLAW in their system. She just ate it the way it came out but she was very frustrated and annoyed. I really dislike adding a "tip" when "ordering". If service was slow or horrible...do I get to ask for my tip money back? If I don't tip enough will they wipe the floor with my bread? Are they that entitled to a tip in advance?? After all...that is their job!! That's what they signed up for! And still I added a tip but I really don't like adding a tip before I see the kind of service provided. I don't even understand why I needed to give a tip...I ordered, I got my own food and I even got up to get a refill for my water then I cleared my own table! They just did their job of making my sandwich. What exactly am I tipping??? They should have tipped ME!! The computer asks if you are dining in or taking out. 11 of us were dining in. Still everything came out in a take out box. Seemed like a lot of waste. The cafe is located in an office park. I see it being an ideal spot for those working in the area. Grab a coffee and breakfast sandwich or a quick delicious sandwich for lunch. For a group of 11 retired ladies lunch...it didn't work. We like to be waited on and have real dishes. Fun for us to try once. Overall however, it is a huge step up from Panera and more quality food than WaWa. Good place for a quick meal.
