I have mostly come in here for small leather repairs to bridles or saddles and a lot of the time they can do it Right there on the spot and quite cheap! I have also relied on this for good quality riding gloves including the best winter gloves I've owned yet which is a brand called Geier that I haven't seen elsewhere - it's deerskin with Thinsulate lining and more flexible and sensitive them the other brands of insulated leather or synthetic riding gloves I've tried plus I heard it's made locally on Centralia WA. But they sell several brands of western and English riding gloves. Great selection of western saddles. western type boots and some English type paddock boots too. After a year and a half of lessons (and getting our property ready), we acquired our first horse, a 3 horse warmblood sized trailer and a big-ass truck. We've been trailering our mare to our weekly lesson for a few months, but haven't really done anything outside that safe-zone. We've been using an English saddle for arena work, but wanted to get a trail saddle too. Our instructor referred us to Mike's. We called ahead to set up an informal appointment for opening time on Saturday. We got there a few minutes early (on purpose) as we knew we had to maneuver our 41 foot rig through the circular driveway. Not having anyone else in the parking lot saved our butts. It was clear the store has a lot of regulars that they know by name. Us being "city slickers" who lived in Ballard for 25 years before buying our horse property - and clearly being new to horses - made us stick out even more like a sore thumb. But Mike was great from beginning to end. He asked us what we were looking for, then took all the measurements (he has some cool molds), then went about searching both his used and new inventory for some options. He was very patient and insistent upon showing us all the possibilities. Of all the saddles he brought out, only three really fit. Of the three, one was used and two were new. There were pros and cons to each and we were able to try them all both on a fake horse and on our own horse. I'm sure Mike had figured out that we didn't drag our horse all the way down there just to browse, but who knows? Maybe people do that. Anyways, we were really nervous about the whole experience - especially parking the big rig and loading/unloading the horse in the parking lot on the side of the highway. It could have been a shit-show but it all worked out great - and we found a saddle that my wife loves. Honestly? We were a bit worried getting into the horse world as we had this connotation that it's a very closed world and that newcomers are often shunned or looked down upon. I have to say we've been pleasantly surprised by literally EVERYONE we have encountered from our teacher/trainer to the seller we bought our horse from to the trailer seller to our equine vet to our trimmer to Mike the saddle guy. I love this place! It's definitely my go-to country store. I went in looking for a nice pair of boots. They had a pretty decent selection and the prices were not too bad at all. The lady working that day was extremely nice and helpful. She helped me pick the right type of boot for the activities I planned on using them for. Overall the service was great and the price was good. I still could buy the same pair of boots cheaper on Amazon, but I'd much rather go into a store and be able to try on tons of pairs to find my perfect match. Love this place! read more

This is a very decent tack shop for a small town - and this coming from an English rider. It's very close to where I board my horses, so I can't beat the convenience factor. The prices are slightly above average, but most tack shops are - typically out of convenience, again. I've been able to find a lot if what I've needed last minute here. There is also a feed store down the street for grain and supplements, as well as a grocery across. Mike's has a nice restroom - something that can be hit or miss in small WA towns. Born and raised in Enumclaw, so needless to say I wear cowboy boots. Renton western wear went out of business so I tried to find a new pair of boots in town although the selection is very small and sizes not always available. Bought a new pair of Ariats. I wore them one time for a few minutes and the fit wasnt right. Tried to bring them back to exchange and they refused because the bottom of the boot had dust on them. Had I wiped the bottom off and said I never wore them they would have exchanged them. Horrible customer service and will never shop there again. read more

I have a rescue horse with absolutely the worst conformation out there. When the first saddle we tried on him was a bit too tight Mike took the time to fit him with another. He just have tried at least 10 or 15 saddles on Lakota before we found the right fit. I would recommend this shop and Mike to anyone needing a saddle or tack. He is knowledgeable and this store has more equipment than anyone could imagine. Don't let the small outside fool you. If you need it he's got it. Thanks again for helping us out.
