I've had both a really positive experience and one where I felt like I was a bother. One time I went in there looking for steel toed shoes and an older lady helped me and was so sweet and helpful it was the best customer service I've ever had. I went in today 06/07/25 just to browse and bought something and the checker Gracie, seemed completely bothered by me trying to buy something. I didn't realize me trying to make a purchase which made her have to get off her phone was such an issue. Even the person I was with as we left was wondering why she seemed so bothered. Before searching the store online for items I need, a glaring red pop-up appears stating that I must accept cookies. No choices are offered, and there isn't anything to click on to opt-out... Well, that isn't happening... There are too many choices... Additionally, I have been the actual store several times when their fishing supply essentials, like swivels, weight, etc., were depleted. I was just strolling around downtown Orting with my toddler. As I was about to head home, I happened to see the outdoor store, so I thought I would check it out! The store had their sidewalk sales racks with some shirts on display and also outdoor chairs. I decided to walk Inside the store and was very impressed with the selection. Consider this store as a Sport Man Outdoor store, but it's family-owned. So that's nice! They have everything in this store from clothes to shoes to hunting and fishing stuff , guns, knives, outdoor gear. You know what I mean! The staff are nice & friendly. One of the employees actually shut the automatic feature down for the doors and only the doors would open when pushed physically because my toddler kept running around the store and wouldn't want to sit still in the shopping cart. They didn't have to do that, but that was very nice that they did that! lol The store has some awesome sales that I was able to buy some shirts for my husband and for my toddler. Although the store offers email receipts, you should get the physical receipts anyway because they detail the transaction items versus the email receipts. The email receipts I got only show the total of the sales, which would be very confusing if you were to try doing return - exchange because the store would need to see the items listed. I will 10/10 come back to this store in the future! read more

I have no idea why I wast my time going in here, I will no longer try to shop local. My most recent visit this last weekend was the same type of horrible service I have come to expect. I went to the gun counter and waited almost 10 minutes while the clerk has personal conversations with customers that were not looking at guns, it was the customer that finally even told the employee he should see if I needed help. Complete lack of regard for someone was willing to spend good money. Off to Cabela's or any big box after that. read more

Chose Big J's as an FFL for a recent online pistol purchase. Their fee was within range of every body else, give or take a few bucks. Distance from home was also a factor in the decision as well as positive reviews. I live up the hill in Graham, right about 15 minutes away. Couldn't be happier with my choice. Smooth, seamless exchange, fair price. Only need to wait the 10 business days and go get your firearm. Will use them again to middle a gun purchase. Would recommend to any one who asked. read more

What a gem in Orting. The selection was plentiful. The staff here are very friendly and go out of the way to help you. The only complaint I would give, and its not really a complaint, but the store feels a little crowded with stuff cause there is so much merchandise for a smaller store. But like I mentioned, if you need something, chances are they have it and are extremely customer service friendly. Over priced. I bought what I thought was a IJ tp22 turned out It was a erma rx22. I tried to cancel the transaction when I realized what it was. they refused to refund my money before I signed the 4473. Not only was it horribly over priced ($159 before tax). I went to go clean it when I got it home and the grip-extender on the mag broke off. Looks like it was epoxied before. I'm sure they are laughing all the way to the bank. I hope this thing doesn't blow my hand off when I shoot it. Rip offs Lesson learned. Should of just saved my money for a P64. read more

My husband + I went in this store to check out some hand guns. The younger guy (30s) at the gun counter cared more about his hair + overly tight jeans then actually doing his job - assisting customers in looking at guns. He was completely incompetent on answering questions about said guns. Completely guessing the whole time + testing out other hand guns while "helping us." My husband was trying to be polite + thanked him for his assistance 3 TIMES + this dude ignored him - on purpose! Worst customer service + that guy is a total joke. He's the type to sell a gun to someone not responsible enough to own one as clearly he himself is not responsible and has no concept of customer service. They are located in Orting, WA. I bought working shoes with safety toes, I like the style, look and how if fix my right foot. When I wore then for two days, on the left foot, the tongue connect to eyelet rubbed on my ankle, causing redness, tenderness and pain. I emailed, Big J's and the shoes company. Big J's connected, me the same day, told me to bring then back, which I did they were awesome. NO hassle, NO judgements, NO problem. Guys and Gals - This small town store is top of the line for your outdoor equipment. I found a great advertise last year and purchased a nice Kimber 1911 .45 and a great price. The next day I received a BJ's flyer in the mail. There were some great deals including an unbelievable Sale Price on a high-end match grade Sig Sauer 1911 .45, which included a .22 conversion kit. I went down and bought it that day. Staff even gave me a slight discount since I just bought the 1911 Kimber the day before. The got the business and I went away very satisfied. I even picked up a couple of bricks of the hard to get .22s at a good price. Thanks BJ's! read more

All the girls that work there are great. Super friendly and helpful. I did think it was super unprofessional for the salesman at the gun counter to be bad mouthing his wife to another employee and then talking inappropriately about one of the girls that works there. Pretty sure he didn't think anyone could hear him... but even then nobody should talk about their coworkers like that especially when this guy looked so much older than the girls. He should not be working around younger girls at all. Made me feel very uncomfortable and sorry for his poor wife. Small business owners will bend over backwards for their customer. Great prices and great customer service.

I've had mixed feelings about Big Js since the first time I walked in. Decent prices on a few things (cheaper reloading supplies), and a decent selection for a small town store. But the convenience and good prices on a few items don't make up for the consistently poor customer service. Typical small town store in that most of the employees are about 17 and apparently related to the owners. You're just as likely to be ignored by the teenager behind the counter, because she's on her phone or talking with the other employees back there that are ignoring you and the line that has formed. Final straw for me was stopping in and browsing the firearms. Magpul PMags marked up from $15, to $45, and base model AR-15s marked up from $800 to $2300. When I asked why the prices jumped so much, the gun counter employee told me that everyone is raising their prices in anticipation of a new assault weapons ban, and that the store "had to protect itself". Protect itself from what? Are they afraid that they're going to miss an opportunity to gouge their customers? Won't be shopping here anymore. I'll keep driving the extra 15 minutes to get to Sportsmans Warehouse in Puyallup. read more
