I came here from a Christmas gift exchange, someone got my present here and I went to get one for my daughter. It was a light. There was so much to look at and the staff was super friendly and helpful! I was made to feel right at home and welcome. They have clothing, jewelry, purses, candy and snacks. Things for everyone of all ages. I bought a crystal geode, candy, real maple syrup and a cool fidget ring! I have shopped Picket Fence for a long term me. Loved it unique items and the atmosphere of the store. However when I was in yesterday asking about a certain Brighten item I saw on line, the clerk proceeded to help me when another customenpPcame to her interrupting my conversation the clerk conversed with her and totally dismissed me. The quality and variety of merchandise keep me coming back again and again. I've never had to write a review about a business in my entire life, but I had an experience today that I felt needed to be shared for future customers of this small business. I was shopping for a birthday gift for my mother and I was about to head up to the register when an older looking employee took the item I was intending to purchase out of my hands and quickly whisked it away from me, ($10 Item), and told me she was going to take it behind the counter. I work in retail and have never even thought about stealing anything in my entire life. Please think twice about what small businesses you choose to support, if you want to support a business who treats their paying customers like thieves and criminals, this is your place. Let's just say I'm pretty disappointed after my first visit to A Picket Pence, inc... Yeah, their store is adorable. I mean, I spent $175, no problem (for 7 items; two caps, two shirts, an anklet, greeting card and one piece of candy). Which is ok, I'm happy to spend a little more and I hardly ever spend very much on myself. I saw this top (see photos) on the 50% off used clothing rack outside. It didn't have a price tag. Enticed me to come in and continue browsing, said top in hand. At check out, the lady turned the shirt inside out looking for said price tag, and was clearly unsure what to charge. I'm mostly rang up and she says $40. And I say "for the flannel? with the 50% off?" (?!). She says yes. I debate internally and decide. Ok.. ring it up. Come to find out that online, the average price of a new Angie flannel at Buckle is $39... The flannel I got used and on clearance was $40... You're telling me the used flannel I got was worth $80?? I probably won't be back, kinda hurts my feelings when I feel taken advantage of. This is unfortunate because I truly adored the store. Oh well ‍ read more

This is the absolute best store around! I love the selection, they have soooooo much wonderful stuff, you should go through the store at least a few times to see it all! They are always adding new fun lines and items, so every time i visit, they have tons of new things to see! Love the store, the selection and the service, but why only 3 stars? Easy: the refund policy is nonexistent. Exchange only. I pop in this store whenever I get a chance, they have a great selection of high-end things, all situated in the great downtown Sumner. Here I have purchased TOMS shoes, Vera Bradley items in the past. I consider myself a regular shopper, but have never paid attention to their refund policy; I have not wanted a refund until recently. My problem with this now is that despite my faithful patronage over time, they would not refund me the money on a gift I received for Christmas. My family purchased a Vera Bradley Wallet from the store for me that I would have loved if I would not had also received something else that was similiar/better. I had a receipt, but it does not matter. Outside of my little problem, I recommend the store for buying things for yourself that you don't mind paying a bit more for there, (they cost a bit more than others for the same item) and only buy things that you are SURE about. I now recommend that you DO NOT buy gifts here unless you are absolutely sure that person you are buying for is going to love it, and they will not be receiving something similar/better; like I did. I guess I just expected more from a store that sells brands like Brighton, Vera Bradley, & TOMS. Most other stores that sell these brands offer a full cash refund. Even on-line sellers. While I feel like my situation has soured me from attempting to support a local business, I will still go back. Why? They have fun stuff to look at, and the displays are beautiful. I will just be very cautious before I suggest anyone to shop for me from them again. ;). I traded my wallet in for a Brighton necklace, that I have yet to wear. read more

This is one of the most friendliest stores I have visited. It's my go to place when I have a birthday or wedding gift to purchase. They have fun and elegant items. I don't know why someone would throw a small locally owned business under the bus like the review sniping about the return policy. APF does have a return policy and I think it's probably been the same for the 20+ years the store has been around. It's even printed on the receipt! Small businesses can't do some of the things big box stores do and I'm certain APF isn't the only shop that gives store credit or exchange as the options for a return. Store credit doesn't expire so if this reviewer shops here frequently, then I fail to see a problem. You know, you can always return Vera Bradley or Brighton to their company owned stores. Why bust the chops of a small business who really works hard to be successful? And for the bathroom complainer, do you know how old that building is? Those pipes are ancient! Shops are not required to have a public restroom. I've seen the owner allow small children, elderly customers and pregnant women use the bathroom without question. Walk the 50 feet to the nearest restaurant and use theirs. Quit bashing small businesses! This is a great shop! I live about an hour away now and I still make the drive to buy myself a treat or find that perfect gift. read more

I have been shopping at A Picket Fence for years. It is, by far, the premiere store in downtown Sumner. Great selection of unique gifts, accessories, jewelry and clothes that is always changing. The ladies who work there are friendly and fun. This shop is my "go to" store for birthday and holiday gifts for all the women on my list. Also, the store carries Brighton and Vera Bradley. My Brighton watch band broke and I took it in to see if they could help me. The woman who helped me was so great. She sent my watch into Brighton and it came back with a brand new band! I feel like they will do anything that a small store can do to make customers happy. read more
