At first I thought it was mostly a kitchen store which is why I went in, but they really have a little bit of everything - cute kitchen stuff, gourmet food, books, toys, décor, jewelry, even soaps and perfumes! A really FUN and ADORABLE shop! Inside, everything is displayed so nicely. Everything inside kind of sparkles and is inviting to check out. From candles, greeting cards of any occasion, cookware, jewelry, or random miscellaneous items, they have bit of everything. I'd say their price range reasonable to above average. I noticed some local vendors as well, which was nice. I do love supporting locals when I can. I really liked all the greeting cards and the journals. Some of the journals had positive notes inside or inspirational quotes to make it fun. The staff were really friendly and positive. It was raining outside, and the gal that rang me up (I'm sorry, I didn't catch her name) kindly put the journal I purchased in a bag, so the pages wouldn't get wet. This store has a little bit of everything, but not cluttered at all. Everything has been carefully and artfully chosen, I wish whoever decorates this store would decorate my house! Around every corner is something new to discover. You can tell the owners put a lot of heart into Compass Rose. I especially love coming here for a putting without my kids, when I can really appreciate all the unique options they offer, but don't stress about leaving the kids at home, Compass Rose is kid friendly and has a lot of options for children. My toddler loves the toy section with the trucks whereas eight year old daughter gravitates to all the beautiful jewelry and stones. Compass Rose also cares a lot about their community. Fun, quirky gift shop located in the Proctor neighborhood of Tacoma! They have all of the essentials for those that are of the Etsy crowd. They have lots of fun magnets, cards, candles, scarves, ornaments and knick knacks. The candle brands I especially liked. Yes, some were a bit too perfume like but others were spot on on their description of what you were getting a whiff of. There are lots of fun things in every corner here and will keep you in the store a while as you cultivate new eye catching items with your eyes! The staff is helpful and sweet! This place is fantastic. We joke that it is Etsy in real life. It is an excellently curated gift shop that you can't walk out of without making a purchase. Illume candles, Rifle Paper Co products, Fred, Barr Soap, the list goes on and on. Housewares, baby stuff, bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff, art, cards, giftwrap, etc. etc. They have the best stuff at good prices. They also have excellent sales, so stop in often to check for those. Regarding the review about the wary employee - they do have some helicopter staff but we have found that they are just trying to be helpful. I adore this place! The only downside it is quite pricey. They have all sorts of unique trinkets. From kitchenware with cute memes, local and beautifully made jewelry with good warranties, fragrant lotions etc, children's section, northwest man section and many more fun things playing to the Pacific Northwest. I don't come out this way much anymore but when I have time I try to stop in, they always have some sort of fun little event going on and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I am giving this a 2 star, instead of a 1, because the gift shop is beautiful and well laid out. I love to shop at small businesses, but my experience today, while shopping with my child, will likely prevent me from ever going back, pandemic or not. We were fully and properly masked up. We were immediately greeted by a door person outside, who had a blue non descript pump bottle of who knows what that she wanted to put on our hands. There was no, "If it is O.K. with you, would you be willing to put "XYZ" on your and your child's hands before entering?" I was really caught off gaurd by this. I have never experienced this ANYWHERE else in town. I immediately asked the woman if whatever she had, that she wanted to to force us to put on our hands, had any kind of scent. She seemed caught off gaurd, and I had to repeat myself. I have chronic migraines and I cannot be around scents, let alone have them on my body, so I really wasn't trying to be a pain. She wasn't prepared for my questions and wasn't saying, "No problem, just go inside. You don't have to use it." She instead offered to let me smell it, which of course, would mean lowering my mask wouldn't it?I didn't know what to do and didn't want to make a scene in front of my son, who wanted to go inside and look at their stuffed animals. So, against my better judgment, we both used it. We browsed around the store. It is nice, but extremely overpriced. I was still in dismay about earlier. I have absolutely no idea what was put on our hands. It certainly wasn't actual legit hand sanitizer with alcohol. It smelled like Elmer's glue, to be honest. When we were trying to exit the store; there are those black retractable ropes and a sign saying that the "attendant" would assist us while exiting. Well, the "attendant" was awol from her post and we had to step around the black posts that the ropes were connected to. When we were on our way down the sidewalk, I could see her, all flustered, hurrying to her abandoned post. We wore our masks, we practiced social distancing, but forcing customers, especially ones with children, to put some unknown substance from a completely non-descript bottle is ridiculous. I feel bad enough that I caved under pressure out of sheer shock and confusion. This is wrong and far overstepping and made for a highly uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. We immediately went to the toy store across the way, which did none of this, and treated us as welcome customers, not lepers. read more

Absolutely love this shop! Never new there was one located in Tacoma, I had only gone to the one in Olympia. This one is much larger with a larger variety of home, children, ladies, & fella goodies galore. This shop is the best if you're looking for unique gift or PNW specific gift to give. They also have a bench right by the door which we call "the boyfriend chair" where your significant other can sit while you shop. :) staff was friendly and not pushy at all. I've purchased jewelry, cards, stationary, and most recently, men's gifts for a dear friend. Knowing the likes of someone so well has it's perks. This store is made for them and things that match their personality. One friend could use a fancy tie pin and they had an amazing wood carved tie pin that matched a watched I'd previously bought them. Aside from that gift recipient... a gal pal looooved earrings I purchased for her. I love that local artists Compass Rose commissions. They are so selective in who they sell here. I'm a fan of a local artist and are super happy when they carry their stuff. The lotions... oh my. Vanilla and bourbon is scrumptious. The staff. This is the cutest little gift shop! My friends and I stopped in on a whim and I'm so happy we did because we purchased some great finds. The store was curated into little sections based on color and everything was so artfully arranged. While some of the items were expensive (expected for brands like Le Creuset), there were quite a few trinkets and paper products with good deals. I ended up purchasing the cutest mug for $9 and a roll of nautical paper on clearance for $2.99. I had to leave before I purchased all the kitchen accessories!
