Horrible store with horrible management. They waste people's time, advertised a product would be in stock and did not inform me you could reserve through phone, instead I showed up early and was denied product. They cater to scalpers and have no actual reservation system other than phone calls which can be faked. *Business itself is good, whenever I've gone here staff is helpful if I have trouble.* Not sure where else to put this, I can't find anything on security for this parking lot, but I work graveyard and needed money out of the ATM (*right* outside Big 5). No signage saying no one in the parking lot after a certain time, *nothing.* light comes on and suddenly a man on a speaker says I'm "trespassing and have been recorded." I'm sorry, don't have an outside ATM then - honestly. This has never happened at another ATM in my 30 year life-span. If you can't be bothered to even put a simple sign out, don't have something on your lot that's accessible past business hours. Plain and simple unjustified to accuse people of trespassing when they *haven't been asked to leave* and *again no clear signage saying you cannot access to ATM in this timeframe.* The dude on the speaker was obnoxious about it too. Whoever your security is needs to relax and get some proper signage at *all* entrances. I was just pulling out money for my fucking rent at an outdoor ATM. read more

The man in the shoe department was super friendly and helpful, but I gotta give a bad review because there was this idiot cashier with dyed hair telling a customer in front of me the shoes he was buying were too small for him. I listened to the conversation this man had with the shoe salesman and he had the right size, but she wouldn't accept that he was okay with buying it. She even says "we have benches in the back, you should try on an eight and a half." like it's any of her business?? If he doesn't like the shoes he'll bring them back. Don't mommy grown men, lady. The only place I go now when shopping for shoes, they always have good prices on shoes, and other stuff. This store is very clean and very friendly and helpful employees, the main drawback to this place is getting out of the parking lot! Specially now with Costco right by it basically. read more

We came in about and hour before closing and only one person seemed to be actually working. I believe his name is Eric. There were 5 other employees just standing around talking. They never bothered asking if we needed any help the whole almost hour we were there. Then while Eric was cashing us out and the other employees were just standing around chit chatting, the only other couple that was in the store ended up running out with a bunch of merchandise. very nice clean store. I get there e-mail discounts. get anywhere from 10 to 25% extra off. buy a lot of golf balls here. Good place to look for some inexpensive sporting goods and outdoor gear. Not the highest quality stuff, but a lot cheaper than shopping at REI. This company has a new circular out every week with a ton of stuff marked down 20-60%, so try to get the goods while they're on sale! read more

Three times I have been in, and three times they rejected my coupons. It took me 15 minutes to get a employee to pull one pair of shoes for me from back. The customer service here really blows. I like Big 5, but not this one. The one in Lakewood blows the doors off of this one. read more

I have had my fair share of bad experiences with Big 5 stores in Washington but this one Manager makes up for it all..... My daughter left for camp Waskowitz tuesday (as most fifth graders do) so we ran to Tacoma (from Vashon island) to go to big 5 to get her some hiking boots and a duffle bag for all her gear. Well we bought our stuff left the store,ran some errands and took the long trip back home to the island. When we got home we started to pack her stuff last thing that needed to be put in was her boots.... Taking out the boots I immediately noticed they were wrong sizes. I panicked. I proceeded to call the store in Tacoma and spoke to a young lady at the register and let her know that even though they checked our shoes when we returned our shoes were two different sizes. Clearly frustration in my voice the lady passed me to her manager, he answered the phone and listen to my spiel about how frustrated I was that this happened he was so patient on the phone and had such a gentle and calming voice clearly sympathizing with what I was going through. He told me he would look for the shoe that I was missing and give me a call back... Around seven he called me and said he could not find the missing size shoe, and told me he would drive from Tacoma to Puyallup to get a brand-new pair at their big five, he then told me that he would be willing to drive the 40+ miles to my daughter's camp to make sure she had her hiking boots. Totally shocked and amazed that he would even be willing to do this on his own time. We agreed that he would pick up the shoes in Puyallup and drive them out to her. Around 9 PM he phoned me again thank God he found the missing shoe. He told me he would get up early and make sure he got to the camp and drop off the missing shoe. Me and my husband looked at each other after the phone call and thought now this doesn't sound real... I called the camp the morning of her arrival (Tuesday) and there it was the boot just as he had promised. I cannot believe it! This store manager of Tacoma big five drove the 40+ miles to make sure my daughter had her missing boot. Never in my life have I ever have this done for me, I am forever grateful to the store manager. If anybody deserves recognition for what he's done it is this man! Thank you so much Greg store manager at big five in Tacoma Washington on 38th St. you are truly amazing. And I hope you had a fun visit with your daughter! read more

Me and my wife are business owners. We are also minorities so whenever we go to stores we watch for how people treat us. We purchased a item for our kid for Xmas. After our kid opened it we noticed that the manual was missing and some other items. We called big 5 and talked to the manager named Greg. He was super nice and told us bring it in and he would take care of it. We brought it in and he was SUPER professional and SUPER courteous to our needs. Now the other manger there some young looking punk with dark hair treated us like we were stealing when we tried to return a broken bow and for our son. One of the items that Greg Sold us didn't work so we came in tonight to see if they could fix it. The young punk manager said where did you get the scope. I said I got it here at this store from your manager GREG. He looks at me with a contempt in his eyes and said we don't sell this product here sir. OK YOUNG PUNK WHO GOES TO A STORE TO HAVE YOU TRY TO FIX SOMETHING AFTER THEY STOLE IT??? If I was the boss there that kid would have been fired the way he treated a paying customer. But don't let him stop you from going there just deal with the more professional manger Greg. read more
