Big 5 has always been the place to go for sporting goods in Gig Harbor. Most of us remember the old store in the old Safeway lot, so going to the new store is like walking in to a little tiny box. The store is smaller, yet I think they have just as much merchandise! They have just about anything sport related, be it snow, sun or on the field. I think the prices are a bit high, but the service is good and the staff is helpful. Save a trip across the bridge, Big 5 will have what you need! read more

I was concerned with some of the one star reviews but am new to town, needed some tennis shoes and thought I'd give it a chance. My experience today was way different from those of the reviewers one and two years ago. When I walked in the front door I was greeted by the guy at the cash register. He pointed me toward the tennis shoe area and the guy back there greeted me when I arrived. The guy in the tennis shoe area helped me find a couple of styles and I bought one of them. I have been told "you get what you pay for". If what you want is a limited selection of lower quality goods, at a not so reasonable price, they probably have everything you need. Compare prices on-line before you decide. I can't fault the staff, as they apparently don't get the requisite training. read more

This is during the Covid19 Pandemic so I had to start building a home gym. Big5 in Gig Harbor gave me an accurate assessment of when the products I needed would be in stock and those items were there the very day they quoted me. Even better, the staff realized there was a better heavy bag in the back that hadn't been shelved yet. This bag was 30lbs heavier than the 70lb bag I thought id have to live with and $30 cheaper. They even loaded all the equipment into my vehicle. read more

Worst service I have received in years. I enter the store to exchange a pare if Nike shoes I had received as a gift. The person at the check stand assumed I was returning the shoes. I told her only wanted to exchange for a larger size. She said "oh" and pointed me to the back of the store to find them myself. When I went to find them I discovered they dont keep Nike shoes out on the floor I went back to the checking area to explain that there were no shoes on the floor. At this time another associate told me Nikes are in the back room. I asked them if I should get them myself. She said no so and do was back there and I should go find him. (4 employees and only me in the store!) I said he was not back there when I was back there and said "well he should be" at which point I asked for my money back. Just horible! read more

I am disgusted by the customer service of this store! We waited by the gun counter for at least 10 min for help so we could take a look at a rifle, not only did multiple employees walk by us and ignore us, the manager did so also! We at one point had a girl standing in front of us behind the counter on the computer, and she didn't say a word. Not even a hello. Not a word was spoke to us when we walked in, and the same when we left. We agreed that we will never spend our money here. read more

Great selection of sports gear! This location is conveniently located with plenty of parking. The staff are friendly and helpful. We're usually able to come in, find what we need and check out in a timely manner. Other than a lack of ammo, which is a problem everywhere these days, they have a great selection of all types of sporting gear. I've never tried their clothes but the items hold up nicely. They have everything from yoga to baseball to soccer. read more

The worst shoe department of any big5 I have been to. I've been a loyal customer for my sneakers for 25 years. I clip my coupons and always love the fantastic price point at big5. The gig harbor store is shameful. The men's department shoe displays are empty. 1 out of 10 specials were actually on the floor for me to see. I had to dig through boxes to look for the shoes I wanted, and when I spoke to the associate, he told me he had had a chance to get to it this morning. No apology. Nothing. It's pathetic. Stop by about every four months to see if you've gotten a clue. The only sporting goods store in GH and you offer nothing for the middle school to high school sports athlete. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! For just fastpitch and baseball alone, there are 12 teams at the two high schools. Around 150 players, all of whom use elite level equipment and aren't afraid to pay for it. I'm not even including all the year-round teams like Narrows Baseball, Wollochet Baseball, Stingrays, and Express Fastpitch. I shopped GH Big 5 and found 1 bat that was BBCOR rated, and it was a piece of crap. No elite level fielding gloves/mitts. No metal cleats! Are you kidding me? Every players buys a pair every year. Your missing out on serious $$. Do you sell turf shoes. Hell no! Two of the main fields that GH has for play are turf. Idiots. What are you guys thinking? Anyone that is serious about their sport cannot include BIG 5 for your purchases. You have to travel to Tacoma, Federal Way, or Puyallup for a descent sporting goods store. Don't even let me get started on your fishing gear. GH is the "Maritime City" and you don't sell shit to support it. How you stay in business is beyond me! Customer service is pathetic!
