What an awesome place. It's located in the heart of the Proctor district of Tacoma and has been here as long as I can remember. I finally got around to doing a review. This is a fantastic store. We go here often to purchase gently used sporting equipment for whatever activity our daughter is currently involved in. They have bicycles, camping gear, clothing, shoes, every type of sporting equipment, you name it. Adult and children's sizes. Things are reasonably priced and are in great condition. I picked up a coat today for $8 and a pair of shin guards for $3 a couple of months ago. You should absolutely stop in and check it out and support this local business. Went into the store today. Two employees were behind the counter engrossed in their computer monitors. I circled the store 3 times looking for something I couldn't find. They never looked up once to greet me or ask if they could help. I left without spending anything. I imagine foot traffic is much less with this location compared to their former Proctor store front. A little customer service can go a long way to increase sales. Probably won't be back. read more

Evening Magazine did a segment about this store in their show one night. I was taking snowboarding lessons around the time the segment was broadcasted. I was interested in continuing the sport and was looking for inexpensive snowboarding gear. I did not want to shell out a lot of money since I was not good. All I have to say is this establishment is a great place to purchase used sports gear. There were a few snowboards for sale. I was able to find one for myself and ended up paying for the board and bindings for less than the advertised price, which I think was $160. read more

Loved it here! This place is bigger than it looks. The store expands out into four areas. I'm just starting to get into snowboarding and was on a mission to get snowboarding boots. I'm happy that they sell used sportsware because it means the prices are cheap. I didn't know where anything was, so I asked the staff who was really friendly and helped me. They had snowboarding boots in my size at reasonable prices. I was able to get boots I liked as well as a helmet well under my budget. They have a bunch of items for sale for those who enjoy sports and the outdoors! Will visit here again! read more

This is a cool sports store. I went looking for something they didn't have, but no place in Tacoma had a wider selection of good sports equipment. It looks small from the outside, tucked behind a 3-car parking lot off Proctor & N. 27th, the storefront has a few bikes and 2 racks. Yikes I thought to myself. Should I even go in? Boy am I glad I did. The tiny storefront gives way to catacombs filled with used sports equipment. The amount of "used" varies widely. Many of the items were like-new, with a fair smattering of items that showed a bit of use (scuffs & scratches mostly) and a few timeless pieces that would still be worth the purchase, despite a few cosmetic rifts. The prices were reasonable and what it may lack in overstock, the place more than makes up for in variety. As I said, bikes and clothes in the front, balls, bats, mitts, shoes, clothes, extending back into the first catacomb, neatly displayed, without any of the frills and pageantry associated with most sports stores. The bright displays and over-sized sports murals of most sports stores are left out here, leaving the colorful equipment to speak for itself in what must be an ever-changing festival of useable color organized on minimalistic displays. Further back the catacomb narrows and splits with spaces for hiking, kayaking, skiing/snowboarding, golfing, boxing, hockey, and the like. All equally well displayed and accessible with little to no digging through grungy bins of lord-knows-what. It even looked to me like there was some expansion in progress as well. read more

What a great place! We've been in many times and there is always a great selection. My son got a new-to-him bicycle (not from here) and we couldn't figure out how to lower the seat. He brought it in and Mason got tools and patiently walked him through it. The prices are awesome; we just got a like-new Trikke (retails for $275) for $50 and it's a blast. This place is well-run by people who truly seem to like what they're doing, and they don't mind me bringing my dogs in. I highly recommend Playback Sports! I'm not sure what happened, but staff used to be more kind...they moved from Proctor to 6th Ave. To sum it up, if you know what you're looking for & have zero questions whatsoever then this is your place to shop, there's just zero assistance/customer service. Finding the place was a hassle, I called to verify the address prior to driving from another city & was told to look it up online, I did. That's how I found the number, but it said permanently closed, that's why I was calling to not waste gas if it was indeed closed. I was asked if I knew how to google search LOL. Thought that was funny & let it go, but when we got to the store no acknowledgement was given whatsoever & we were there for hours. No help finding items, sizes are on different spots so it was very hard to find what we were looking for. When asking questions owner seemed upset. I asked where the waterproof jackets where at & he said nothing is waterproof...just very odd, ok what can I actually wear to stay dry in this rainy State. I've gotten stuff from REI that is waterproof & very warm. Lesson learned. I'll order a different size online. Another customer stepped in to help me out (she was the sweetest) she was literally giving me all her personal reviews on every item I needed for myself & family. Up until then, I felt so unwelcomed & uncomfortable, but realized I wasn't the only one being treated that way, unfortunately. I let my husband know & he said he had the same experience on a separate ocassion. Spent a lot on winter gear & I don't think we're coming back, it's sad because I used to really like this place when it was next to a coffee shop, we were referred by a friend who works at REI. We would stop there all the time & staff was helpful, friendly & welcoming. I genuinely don't know what went wrong here, hope customer service improves. read more

The customer service could of been a lot better, but it was two young boys with very little knowledge of the store items. The amount of useful stuff the store has was amazing. We found sleeping bags for a very fair price and in like new condition. The store hours could also be better allowing those who work an opportunity to visit. Their website doesn't list the items they have in store. The parking lot is very small, there is street parking but be careful with signs of "no parking". Worst service I have received in years. The man & woman at the desk were so rude to myself and my kids. If I could give zero stars I would. They gave me a hard time for not understanding their consignment process, mocked me to each other & other customers, and then a brought up an issue I was having with something I wanted to buy they said very rudely, " Well, you don't have to buy it." I went into playback sports to see if my Bike had Sold and he say yes so I left because I was going to wait for Grandma to come back with but then decided to get my money he say it was sold for $50 and they give you half of that so I got $25 and my Grandma come back later and asked he say it was up for $250 but the Owner say that was way of Priced for the condition of the Bike and again she say no the wrong that we could have sold it for $100 at a yard sale which is what I actually bought it for to start with he kept saying yeah and so then He say I'll give you $75 so Grandma came back to get me but I wasn't ready so she went back without me and got the money and he than say he called the Boss and said the same thing over again so we finally after fighting and fighting got or Money back I don't think he even spoked to the Owner because it was odd they gave us the full amount after all this happened and was claiming that they were so good to us so he totally lied and rip us off I wonder how many times and how long he or any of the employees have Been ripping people of and if they're Boss knows if he not apart of it so anyway never Again going back and never again selling and sport items there again at either location this actually happened-at the Downtown Puyallup location they can forget about my contract we are all very mad and upset and very disgusted and disappointed about This whole thing they lucky we don't file a complaint at the Police Department for them stealing or money and doing us off which it wouldn't do much anyway it be they're word against ours and they would totally lie anyway like they already were read more

The owner is very rude. He turns down items, then I bring it in when the kid is working and he takes it with no problems and it sells in a couple days. I asked the girl why the old bald owner is so rude to me and she said that homeless people keep bringing in stolen things. So basically I look homeless and he thinks I stole the stuff? They are always selling things for less than agreed. I hurt my back at work so I brought all my sports equipment in so I was able to get a descent amount of money. Very disappointed with the store in Tacoma and I wouldn't recommend this place at all. We had lacrosse gear placed to the side to be picked up and they didn't save the equipment. They lady at the store told me just to pick out a helmet any would fit. Then she showed me one that was supposed to be the one we wanted and the price didn't match. I will say if that was the helmet they were overcharging us for it when we asked them to hold it. Moral of the story I have a lacrosse player with a broken heart. She liked that equipment. read more

Attitude beyond belief - took a lot of GREAT gear in to have them resell (all very lightly used - high end clothing gear - mostly now outgrown) - would not give a receipt of any kind - told me it would be processed and be on line to view within a few days "as they were all caught up", went in a week later as nothing showed up in my account - was told they will get to it soon (?) but were indignant when asked about "what does soon mean" - another 10 days later they still have only posted a few of the least inexpensive items I took in and have the gall to charged me for cleaning items that were cleaned days before I took them in - un-fricken believable - regardless of how this turns out I'll never take anything to them again - I'd rather give the MC gear to newbies with a limited budget than let these schiesters make money on it - do not support these folks they have an almost criminal business practice - with rude young incompetent staff to boot. read more
