Tacoma Rifle & Revolver Club was very welcoming, we have had help when needed from member and that is awesome! The Range safety officers are amazing, and we have even become friends with one of them. The club offers access for other than shooting fire arms, they have classes, they have Archery, Air Guns, an area for Rv's. For firearms enthusiasts there are center fire matches, bench rest matches, .22 rim fire matches, a mid week shooting league, a women's pistol league and much more. The range is safe, the facilities are clean, and the people are worth getting to know.

I'd have to join to see the range. I'm not paying over $150 just to get a look at the place. As it happens, I found out later that I can sign up for new member orientation to see the place before paying for a year's membership. If only their rep had said that. Or he might have told me about any of the events coming up that were open to the public (as audience). I may check the place out again. I may change my review. As far as the people whinging about the noise - they were here first. Be mad at the real estate developers that put in entire neighborhoods next door. And next time, do your due diligence.

My tale dates back to the COVID time frame. I'd been trying to locate a Lipsey's special edition…read more With little luck at the counter I contacted Lipsey's directly. Lipsey's said Ruger owed them just 25 of the model I wanted and assured me they'd hold one for me. By the way, as a former FFL dealer and experienced gun shop counter man, I probably now a little more than the average bear. Anyway, when I explained the arrangements I'd made I was told very rudely there was no way what I was telling them could be true. Well it was and the gun was ordered just as I layed out to them. I went to pick up the gun after the prescribed time and the line up was stretched out the door. I explained to an employee monitoring the line and he called the owner out. The owner told me when the gun arrived I'd get a call and when I came in I wouldn't have to wait, just tell the employee who was helping monitoring access that he, the owner, said I could forgo the line and pick up my pistol. When I showed up to pick up my gun and followed the owner's instructions the owner didn't remember what he'd told me. After what I thought a rather rude exchange where the owner loudly told me he'd never said any such thing he'd honor his word even though he didn't give it. He, in effect, was calling me a liar. I've not made a purchase there ever since. Believe me, when Moe ran the show, while the service was often slow, it wasn't as rude. I'd done literally thousands of dollars in business at this store over the years preceeding this experience, never again.

I visited The Marksman Indoor Gun Range on a Sunday, just one month after my trip to Wade's Indoor…read moreGun Range. The parking lot was clean and the building is in good shape, though it could use a refresh. The staff was friendly, and the older gentleman who explained the range rules was engaging and easy to talk with. He took a little longer with me than I expected, but that likely had to do with a couple factors--either way, he was personable. My membership was reasonably priced, and because of my age I received a discount. Once I was in the range area, everything looked very clean and well organized, with clear signage and defined procedures. One difference I noticed versus Wade's: there wasn't a range master on hand in the same way to support guests and help ensure rules were being followed. After that finishing up in the range I headed back to the front in the retail area. I decided I wanted to buy a couple holsters. However, I stood at the counter for about 10 minutes and it became clear I wasn't going to receive service. The surprising part was that I was the only person standing there. At that point, I understand why I didn't get served, but it felt disappointing. And the irony is that I likely would have spent more money since the range desk experience elsewhere was great. No worries--there are plenty of other places to buy holsters. When I exited, I thanked them, but I didn't get a response (or they may not have heard me). Overall, I'm mixed on guest service... Since I'm a member, I'll probably give it another try.

The people are friendly. Lane fees are little lower than what Rain City used to charge($15) and…read moreeven less than what Pivotal (the new location) charges ($18) but there is that one time $15 fee so it will only be cheaper if you go more than once. My only complaints about the range is it's not temperature controlled so if it's hot outside, your hands will sweat...and no one like a slippery firearm. If it's cold, bring gloves. The last time I was there (which was maybe year and a half), their retrievers were in need some TLC. Covers were off and some didn't function at all. Their lane separators need more coverage because I don't like getting pepper by casings from the left lane. There aren't a ton of ranges around the King/Pierce area so you're probably going to go to what is closest. This isn't a bad place but it could use some comfort upgrades.

Gig Harbor Sportsman's Club is a sad excuse of a sportsmen's club…read more First off, the day that you show up determines your experience. If you show up on a Wednesday, you will get a polite staff. They are knowledgeable, respectful and make the experience enjoyable. If you show up on a Friday it's an entirely different environment first. Let me say I've been in the 2 a community for 20+ years for law-enforcement, military, etc. I am also a firearms instructor and probably spent at least 10 years of my life as a firearms range safety. If you show up on Friday, you will be met with a group of three men that their whole job is to make sure that your time spent at Gig Harbor range is filled with anxiety, creating the most unpleasant feeling. They spent nearly every second staring at me with an angry, aggressive demeanor, perhaps trying to be intimidating. It was as if the employees sat there waiting for my friend and I to do something wrong. If you know anything about firearms, when people make mistakes, on the spot corrections need to be made for safety. I totally understand and respect that to the highest degree, and understand that even the most experienced people can still make mistakes. However, when range safeties decide to target one individual, giving no oversight to other individuals on the range, negligence has the potential to cause massive issues with safety. The entire time I was there, I guess the employees decided that I was the only one who needed any oversight, rather than any of the other people on the range. They spent the entire time staring me down, even though i was shooting groups at 100 meters. I felt totally disrespected and furthermore, I felt like I was not welcome at the Gig Harbor range. It's a beautiful range. It's well kept. I've spent a lot of time here since it's local. But if the people working there are rude, disrespectful, and try to intimidate customers, then people will stop showing up. I'm extremely disappointed with the experience today, and I will most likely not return to this range.

I decided to join the club to work on my skills regularly. There are a lot of reviews griping about strict rules and oversight. I find that bizarre. I want to use my deadly weapons in the safest and most responsible way possible, and having an acquaintance with the stupidity rampant in this world, I welcome strict rules in a dangerous atmosphere. I go to GHSC to keep my skills sharp and have fun, not to get shot by some yahoo. I have found the range officers to be consistently helpful and courteous. They have had to correct me a couple of times - once when I forgot the 5-round limit, and once when I placed my firearm in the wrong position to show all clear during a cease fire. They were polite both times. These people are volunteers who love the sport and want to keep everyone safe, and they deserve respect and cooperation. Bottom line: this club is outstanding, and I feel safe there. I would not hesitate to take a brand new shooter there (I have), or even a child. I hope to have enough free time to eventually volunteer as an RO myself.
