Selling my daughter's car... I haven't driven it much. I thought that the AC wasn't working so I made an appt at Mike's Garage -- mainly because it's convenient to my work. My husband dropped it off for me and the tech said, "Let's go see what we go." Embarrassingly, he pushed a button I had not pushed and it WORKED! Some shops would have not taken the time to look BEFORE they checked it in and "fixed" it, or at least would have charged me a diagnostic fee. I knew I needed new rear brake pads on my Subaru Outback, so I made an appointment, showed up on time, and had the BEST experience possible. They got right to my car, and the mechanic said the inner surfaces of the rotors were bad, so I okayed new rotors, and they got them to the shop in record time, installed them and the new pads, and my Outback is a dream car again. Their billing is honest, fair and I'm pretty sure much more user friendly than anywhere else. I will never hesitate to use them again in the future. read more

I never leave negative reviews- I generally feel like people are always doing the best they can & I'm not trying to put any more negativity in the world. But I had such a terrible experience here, & I want to prevent others from having a similar experience. I visited Mike's in 2017 and I had a wonderful experience (which I wrote about below) but apparently the shop is under new management, and wow, the experience was like night and day. The person at the front desk was rude to me from the moment I walked in. It was baffling, it was as though he had a major bone to pick with me though he had never met me. He wasn't communicative, I tried to engage him in friendly conversation and he flat out ignored me, he didn't tell me to expect any kind of wait (I had called first and was told to come in, which he was totally unaware of, and the wait was over an hour). When the car was examined and the mechanics were telling me the diagnosis, I expressed that I wasn't fully understanding what the mechanics were saying, so the front desk guy told me (and I quote) that my car had the equivalent of "stage 4 terminal cancer" and then walked away. This is a Subara Impreza with about 50k miles on it. Apparently this was the diagnosis because there is rust on the undercarriage (for context, I live in NYC - all cars from NYC have some level of rust). I was also told that my car also needs a control arm replaced and that it shouldn't be driven until I get that done. I was then charged $130 for the checkup. I left and promptly went to Cutting Edge Automotive who checked out my car for free, called me over when it was on the lift and both showed, and explained everything to me. They assured me that my car was just fine (it had a normal level of rust for the part of the country I live in) and that I didn't need to replace the control arm yet and that my car was perfectly safe to drive. These guys could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable and were a pleasure to deal with. I HIGHLY recommend them. And as for Mike's, save your money, time and sanity: this place has gone downhill. read more

When I was new to The Fe Our Subaru was overheating and leaking coolant like no body's business. They told me they were quite backed up due to COVID and a few mechanics that were sick currently. I told him what was going on, and he said, "Tell you what, bring it by we will take a look and see if it is a simple fix or not". I brought it in the next morning when they opened, they popped the truck, immediately saw the radiator hose had a hole, they replaced it immediately on the spot and showed me that there was a mouse nest in the engine, and they proceeded to remove it and make suggestions for how to keep the pesky varmints away from the warm engine....I was on my way... I bought all the guys working a Starbucks to express my appreciation! Fast forward 5 weeks and all the warning lights were going off in our Subaru. I knew I loved these guys already from the past experience, so I called them and asked if I could come by and try plug it into the device that tells all the alerts. Of course, they said of course come on down. Got there and even they were surprised by the number of alerts, ha ha ha... they looked the engine over expecting to see more pesky mice partying, but nothing. They suggested a Tune-up, reset the alerts and see if they come back on. (So glad we did the tune up, because they found a few other small issues that really needed to be taken care of... I drove off and no alerts have shown up... I can not express to you how kind, fast, efficient this crew is! If you own a Subaru, this is the only place you should be going to, even if you live in ABQ, it's worth the drive to work with this amazing team! read more

Recently I had a mechanic tell me that the noise my car was making required a new transmission and 'rack and pinion' for $8000. Since the noise came from engagement of the clutch, I decided to get another opinion. Mike's Garage was recommended. As soon as they heard the noise they said, "you need a clutch." For under $1000. I had a new clutch the next afternoon. Very convenient. The new clutch runs so smooth. I'll not go any other place now for work on my Suburu. read more

Mikes is an excellent choice for Subaru owners to get repair work done! They have been fixing all my Subarus issues and doing my oil changes. On 4 different cars I've had a variety of major car surgery, all of which have been done properly and have been very happy about. An Impreza, and three Outback's all ranging from 2002,2011,2012,2020 have been maintained and well taken care of. Been going to Mike's for 15 years. Recently had my 3 month oil change. Mike and staff have always been friendly and beyond efficient. Honest to the bone. Heard someone from Colorado didn't like neighborhood and proceeded to trash Michael for speaking to someone else while he was putting in a new battery for her. In defending our wonderful Santa Fe town and friendly way of living she further trashed him and wrote a bad review calling him rude. Far from truth as the staff there bend over backwards to be polite and accommodating. Those not liking anything but the Plaza should stay in their own states and neighborhoods. This place is amazing!! We were passing thru Santa Fe and our car started making a horrible screeching noise. Spent the night and searched yelp for a Subaru repair shop. Found Mike's Garage was highly rated. We were there when they opened at 8 am. The guys were super friendly and helpful. They hoisted our car up and found where a pebble had been lodged in the wheel. They told us we should be fine to continue our travels. The charge was ZERO!!! We were totally at their mercy--they could have charged us anything!! If you own a Subaru, it is best to take it to a Subaru mechanic. These guys know their stuff! It is a very busy garage with a high level of integrity, and excellent customer service. In my experience their pricing is reasonable. My most recent visit, from out of state , was to replace a headlight bulb on my 2010 outback. I called ahead and was told to come right in. No doubt, mike is a great mechanic. Every time I've brought my 02 Subaru to him he's diagnosed and fixed the problem accurately and at a good price. He has even thrown in services for free before. My big problem is that he's so popular that it's impossible to schedule an appointment with any kind of timeliness. My average wait time after calling for an appointment is 2-3 weeks. And when there is something wrong with my car that prevents me from driving, 3 weeks is a long time. Mike needs to hire extra mechanics and build a few extra bays to meet the high demand that he has. Until then I'll find someone else to work on my car. read more

I'm 100% satisfied with Mike's Garage. Mike (and his son, Mike) run a great shop. They and their team do excellent work, they do it fast, and it's reasonably priced. I've been taking my Impreza there for standard maintenance for two years now and the process has been smooth. And then there's this which just happened - my brake light went out, I called for an appt. and Mike said to just bring it by. He had the part in stock and changed it out in 2 minutes. Mike's is great! When I bought my car, I was told it would need roughly $1500 of work in about a year and half. A year and a half later, Mike's garage recommended exactly the work that had been predicted, right around that same price point. I have taken my 2005 Subaru to Mike's the last few years, and they are really great. I feel they are honest and will tell me the least expensive option for fixing my car, if I'm on a budget, or how long I can go before something really needs to be fixed. When air conditioner stopped working I could live with that, but when my heater stopped working it was time to ask Mike's Garage to fix it for what I assumed would be my second major repair on my 15-year old car. But NO! It wasn't so complicated, the job was completed the day I first called asking for service, and the price was under $300, over half of that for parts. I went to get an oil change at Mike's. They got me in at the time of my appointment, did the work in record time, and sent me off to work happy, thanks to young Mike's quick wit. And the price was better than the chain oil-change places AND the Subaru dealership. I sought out Mike's because I got so tired of being "up-sold" by the dealership. . . .no matter what problem I went in for, they manufactured some other, really expensive problem, that had to fixed. Yesterday, I gassed up my Subaru with 'premium' fuel from what i thought was a reputable station. The engine light came on not long after. I stopped into Mike's on the way home and learned from Steve that, yep, it was the subpar gas. He suggested I stop into one of the local shops to pick up a product to clean the catalytic converter, suggested another gas retailer, reset my car's computer system to turn off the light, and advised me to idle the engine for 15 or so minutes. OMG!! Mike Sr. and Mike Jr. are the nicest people! They are so kind. I appreciate their generous personalities. I can come by the shop and get an on the spot diagnostic and estimate. More than once they have fixed a minor problem right then and charged minimally or free. I get so stressed over car problems and they relieve the stress in the process. I trust Mike and his team. I lived in NM off and on for years and found Mikes just before I moved to Colorado. When my car needed to be serviced again, I did not hesitate to schedule with Mike and drive the 5 hours to Santa Fe for service I can trust. These guys are great!
