The good parts are very good -- very friendly and helpful people who give back to the community. Doing a comprehensive inspection on your vehicle in return for a donated bag of groceries is a really outstanding gesture of care. You get photos and detailed notes on the inspection electronically, and they also print out a list of their findings for you to have. Now for the not-so-good. The major not-good is the outrageous prices they quoted in their estimate for suggested and needed repairs. Most of the items on the list were things we could do ourselves for far less money. Some were curious -- when the key fob and interior button wouldn't open the trunk, it seems the mechanic never tried just using the manual release on the trunk itself, which works fine. Similarly, they wanted a couple hundred dollars to diagnose why the TPMS system light was flashing, but they never aired the tires up to spec or test drove the vehicle to see if the light went steady or went out. And nearly five hundred dollars to replace the battery? I'm a shade-tree mechanic from way back, and it feels insulting to be quoted exorbitant prices for things that anyone who can follow directions can do. So, if your car repairs are paid for by insurance and the adjuster approves, or if you have an unlimited car repair budget, I'm sure this shop will do a great job, and you'll love interacting with the personnel. But we have already gotten the oil changed for less than 2/3 of their quoted price, and have two quotes on some major service that would have cost literally one to two thousand dollars more at this shop, so we'll reluctantly pass on any further work there. read more

Michael R. One star for Vanessa being polite. Our air conditioning on our car stopped blowing cold air all of a sudden. We called our regular mechanic we've been using for years who are honest, people of integrity, very good mechanics and for this reason we always take all of our vehicles to them but they were booked 3 weeks in advance. We made an appointment any way. We needed our repair sooner so I searched for mechanics that specialize in air conditioning and Auto Angels came up and remembering that my brother told me that they are good mechanics. So upon calling Auto Angels, they got us in right away next morning and told us that the repair would be $407 tax included. Later that day I received a call and was told we needed an AC overhaul and that it would cost $3074 and also other repairs needed totaling $11000 dollars including an oil change, stating that oil is very dirty. I mentioned to a lady on the phone that I didn't have $3000 right now but i would have to do this repair later and would go pick up our car. She was polite about it. We bought our vehicle brand new and have kept up with all required services and our vehicle has always run great. I talked with the mechanic and told him that we just had the oil changed not even driven 500 miles and he mentioned that if oil hadn't been changed for a while it will make the new oil look dirty. Being an auto mechanic myself sometime back, I immediately knew this was a lie and he was trying to bs me. Then I was charged $345 just for the diagnostic. This angered us. I called several places and asked what a diagnostic would cost just to determine repair if an AC unit needed an over haul. All averaged less than $200. Being charged $345 and never communicating this to us that there would be a charge for the diagnostic ahead of time in my opinion is crooked. We ended up keeping our reservation with our regular honest mechanic and he determined that there was no indication that we needed an AC overhaul but Compressor needed replacing and repair was just over $1000. Upon the start of the repair, our mechanic noticed that the nut that holds the pulley on the compressor was missing and was surprised the pulley hadn't fallen off so apparently Auto Angel mechanic forgot to put the bolt back or didn't tighten it and it fell off. Repair was made by our honest mechanic and AC works excellent with a 3 year 36000 mile warranty. We received a post card from Gabriel and Caroline requesting a review. read more

I called in to get a quote for my vehicle and the lady was not pleasant at all. First, she said that they would need to do an inspection (to me they just want more money). I told her that I have already had an inspection and know what needs to be replaced. She rudely snapped back at me saying well that's not how we work etc etc. I said no problem thank you and she hu. To me, this is an indication that they do not value their customers especially prospects. If I have never done business with you you would think you would put more effort in to make sure you have a good first impression. If this is how they interact with me now I imagine it's not any different/better down the line. Wouldn't recommend this company based on simple customer service. Took my Jeep in to fix cable disconnected from gear shift. Two other places said they couldn't see me for a month. These guys got me in right away. I dropped off the Jeep and they gave me a ride home all the way across town. The problem was fixed at a reasonable rate. They also did a diagnostic which could lead to upselling but all they did was give me the report with no high pressure sales. Additionally I couldn't pick it up right away so they gave me a code to a lock box where I could pick up the keys whenever I wanted. I went to the Auto Angel yesterday to get my front end of my car inspected and to see if I needed an alignment. The first time I walked in, I was told they do appointments only. The lady at the front is very kind, helpful and Todd was very informative too. He was listening to my problem and suggested getting a diagnostic done. I took my car in for the diagnostic and they found that I needed new struts, was very transparent about the diagnostic and pricing. I'm from out of town so I appreciated them dropping me off at my airbnb to wait for my car and also leaving my key in a lock box so I could still pick my car up after hours. When I came to pick up my car, my receipt was left inside the car, the car smelled really good and three dumb dumb lollipops were left in the air vent. I've lived in Santa Fe for more than 12 years. Over that time I've been to almost all of the repair shops here. Until I started going to Auto Angel I had multiple disappointments: inaccurate diagnosis, poor quality work, poor quality parts, work not finished on time, unwillingness to explain the underlying problem or solution, items missing from my car when I got it back. They charged us$122 for a synthetic oil change what a rip off!!

After using Auto Angel on and off for 6 years, last month, in November 2022, I had the worst mechanic experience of my life. I am 61 years old - I have been taking my cars to mechanics as a single woman for 45 years - and I have never been ripped off or taken advantage of until November 2022, when Auto Angel not only treated me poorly and disrespectfully personally, but they charged me $400 and did not fix anything! I had a list of things that were not working and they stated that they troubleshooted them but when I saw the bill - and again they fixed nothing - I would be very very surprised if it was more than 45 minutes to 1 hour of labor, and again they charged me $400. I explained a former repair to a woman at the front desk - as context - it had already been fixed but I believed that it might have something to do with what I had going on. I corrected her twice, telling her that it had been fixed but I just wanted them to know what had happened. They then went on a wild goose chase for what had already been fixed. There is a communication disconnect between the front desk staff and the invisible people who are doing the work - and that communication gap creates a serious issue when it comes to repairs. I would encourage extreme caution for single women in particular, as I believe that I was targeted as a woman with the assumption that I was clueless - however, I am way more savvy than your average person about cars. They quoted me $200 to change out my headlights, for instance. That is a 5 minute job and maybe $20 in parts. They wanted $116 to change my windshield wiper blades - another 5 (or less) minute job. They quoted me $2,400 for a timing belt and then became defensive when I told them that I already two quotes - from two Toyota-only shops - one for $1,200 and one for $950. Nothing that I brought my car in for was fixed and I drove home with no headlights, just as I had driven there with no headlights. My brother drove up from San Diego to where I live in Taos, he was so distressed about what happened to me - and HE fixed my car! I will never, ever go back to these people and when I shared what happened with my friend who referred me to Auto Angel years ago he said "what?" - he was shocked - and he stated that he would not return given what happened to me. read more

After using 7 different auto shops in New Mexico, me and my wife both value Auto Angel because we know we can trust that they are doing their best. Don't listen to the reviewers saying this is a place trying to tack on expenses. It's just not how the owner and business are. This is an honorable auto shop with some skilled technicians. They are more expensive than a number of other shops, but you get a high caliber of work, quality parts, a three-year warranty that they really do stand behind, and well-intentioned trustworthy service. I've experience shady auto shops a number of times in NM; Auto Angel is no such place. The owner and business stand by their work, have repeatedly tried to *save* me money on all four cars I've brought to them, and are straightforward about the costs and benefits of repairs. Sometimes with the amount of business they've got, I could see how confusion or miscommunication could crop up. But the couple times I've had an issue arise, or there has been miscommunication, I've been met with receptivity and every effort to correct their errors. Among a variety of above-and-beyond experiences: the owner saved my butt by over the phone by walking me through an (unrelated) breakdown while I was in Denver - he was able to diagnose the issue, explain what was happening to me, and then help me correct it well enough to get from CO to NM again. Took the jeep in and they were thorough, replacing some torque something in two days and then referring me to Precision Transmission for some other (known) issues. Professional, courteous, responsive, and quick. Price was $150 but I don't know if that's good 'cause I don't know anything about cars, hubby said it was a reasonable cost- I'd go back, so far so good edits and more edits- have recently gotten some brake work done, an oil change, and something on the nissan- it's been a pleasure working with them every time, they are thorough in their explanation and recommendations and accurate in terms of timelines. read more

I really can't recommend Auto Angel highly enough. I came to get a second opionion on an expensive fix, and they began by walking me through the process and making sure I understood that it might end up costing me just as much as if I just had the dealer do the work. They ended up determining that the car only needed one of the parts the dealer had recommended, and their work cost me less than half what the dealer quoted me for. Throughout the entire process, they were transparent, honest, and happy to discuss my questions. Plus, they didn't try to persuade me to do a whole load of unnecessary maintenance, like the dealer and other mechanics have. Now my car is working good as new, and they have a 3-year warranty for the work. Overall, I have never interacted with a mechanic with such a high level of integrity and professionalism. The weekend of July 4th of 2015 I was traveling with my four daughters from Phoenix to Colorado when we started to experience car trouble. In Albuquerque, we realized we had an issue when our Cadillac wouldn't take any fuel, it literally just spit gas everywhere. And since we had gassed up 200 miles earlier without any problems, we knew we were in trouble. After some debate we decided to push on to Santa Fe to insure that it was something wrong with the tank and not the fuel gage. To our dismay, upon arriving in Santa Fe, we were certain it was not the fuel gage. After stopping at 3 other mechanic shops, we finally found Gabriel at The Auto Angel. I explained the situation with tear filled eyes to this very knowledgeable, experienced and kind man. He examines the car, noticing my babies inside and then takes me back into his shop. He then states that he has an idea what would cause such an issue but since it was already 5 o'clock, and since he was fairly certain it was a big job...he asked if I could return in the morning. Now, his shop didn't open till 10am and his schedule was completely booked... But still he told me to have the car here by 8am and he'd be happy to take a look. The following morning he got my car in right away and within an hour knew exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. Now this particular mechanical issue was not critical but would normal cost somewhere around $600! Instead of him taking us for every dime we had, he knew of an alternative that would keep my family safe & bypassed the problem until we got back to Phoenix. It worked like a charm! Within no time we were gassed up and back on the road. Here's the kicker... He only charged me a very small labor fee for all his trouble. And then a couple days later he, himself, called to check on me, my family and to make sure the car was running properly... Which it is! If I lived in Santa Fe...
