I really must defend against the comment of rude phone service. I have been coming to Toy Auto Man for many, many years. Claudia is a lovely person. She and Carlos run a small and successful family business that serves the community. Carlos is a great mechanic, thorough and fair. I usually wait (nice work space/waiting area) and I hear Claudia out there on the phone and with customers. She has never been anything but polite, they are both informative and honest. In small Santa Fe everyone knows (or knows about) everyone else, reputation is everything. This town is FULL of their loyal Toyota-owning customers. I'm one of them. read more

Once again I am grateful for the existence of Toy Auto Man, but this time I may be grateful for my life.... I took a car I had just bought.. I live in Albuquerque, to Carlos and Claudia last week for a deep inspection, looking for any problems that might cause me great expenses.... Altho Carlos found one of those... he also found a problem that could have cost me my life on my return trip on I-25... and told me both that it was too dangerous to drive, and, that I should return the car to the dealer and get my money back... I called AAA to drop the car off and the dealer, and altho am hopefully going to get my money returned this week.... The point is, if you are like me, a person ignorant of mechanical things, the first step is first, have a PRE purchase inspection done of any used car you are looking to buy, and if it is too late for that... a post inspection during your warrantee time... It might save your life....Notice that Carlos didn't tell me bad news and then want to fix it for an astronomical sum.... he told me to take it back.... that's the sign of integrity...... For you ladies, the waiting rooms are wonderfully equipped and comfortable, hot drinks, cold drinks, good art, your own bathroom... go there and be assured that you are being cared for in an great atmosphere.... read more

I had been having trouble shifting gears on my 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I took it to a shop that had been recommended by a friend. They told me the problem was the transmission, and that it would take 7 days of work, and that I should expect the cost to run between $2,400 - $2,800. Toy Auto Man had also been highly recommended, so I brought my truck to Carlos and Claudia and told them what the first shop said. Carlos felt that the symptoms I described were not transmission, but a much less complicated issue with the shifter tower bushings having deteriorated -- perhaps not even involving the clutch assembly itself. Carlos showed me a functional example of the part he thought was causing the problem, and described, in simple terms, how pieces of that part can break over time. He gave me a quote on the cost of repairs, and what it would be if the deterioration extended to the clutch. Every step of the way, Carlos and Claudia gave me reassurance when I felt panicked, and made sure that I understood what was happening and what to expect would be done to remedy the issue. They were exceptionally kind, clear, and considerate. Rare people in this day and age. The repair was as Carlos had diagnosed -- the simplest and least costly. The charges ran less than his initial quote. If he had been unscrupulous, he could have confirmed what the previous shop had said about the transmission being involved. After completing the job, Carlos showed me the damaged part that came out of my truck. He took me on a test drive, so I could see that the issue had been fixed. The truck shifts like it did when I first bought it twenty-one years ago. And I have nothing but thanks and confidence in going there from now on, for repairs, safety checks, oil changes, etc. read more

The best mechanic's shop I've ever seen. Expert, efficient, punctual, fair. Steven and his team do the car repair and maintenance and Claudia runs the front like a cesium clock. There's a plush waiting room and a small outdoor patio. The entire place is incredibly clean and comfortable. Being able to have your vehicle serviced here is a reason to buy a Toyota (or Lexus, or Scion) in the first place. read more

Upon entry I was impressed with their lobby and bathrooms. The staff seemed friendly. My Tacoma was not starting. It is a 5 speed stick shift. 2 hours of labor later(189$) they figured out it would start in neutral. Didn't fix a think. Just scratched heads for two hours. 4 days later it wouldn't start again. I called them and they said my truck was to hard to work on and they usually only do small fixes. They only work on Toyota and Lexus. I guess an older model Tacoma 98 without all the complicated electric is to difficult. He also told me he would not work on my truck if I brought it back because I was disappointed. All I said was I was disappointed, did not curse at him or anything. So I took my truck to fast and foreign down the street. They said they have been getting a lot of service from disappointed toyautoman customers since their management change. Fast and foreign replaced the starter in less than an hour and now it's fine. Guess it was on the fritz. If you have a broken tail light or something easier than that to fix toyautoman is the place to go if you want to pay a few hours labor. If you need a mechanic go somewhere else. read more

worst place ever, I took my car in and was told i needed to replace the battery. and many other things for my power steering and it was gonna cost me in $1,200- $2,000 dollar range. I told them i could not afford that as I had looked it up and to get the work done it was much less. when I went to pick up my car and was told I owed them for what was supposed to be a free estimate! we argued back and fort and I told his wife that I was not going to pay for nothing being done to my car. turns out when i took it to a real mechanic he charged me less then half and the battery has been good and never let me down even after a year has passed and I don't recommend this place to anyone ever. read more

Claudia and Carlos run a top-notch, clean, professional family business. I've been going to ToyAutoMan for many years, even before Stephen and Claudia, the former owners had the business. My standard transmission, Japanese-built Rav4 is 15 years old and still runs like new. Wonderfully Honest! Can anything be better to say about a business that fixes cars? I took my 2002 Solara to Toy Man, after getting three diagnostic bids from three other "reputable" Toyota repair shops, who all said that it needed a new catalytic converter plus sensors plus much more. I spent three hours in the lovely waiting room, and then got a smiling, just as happy as me, report that it was dirty sensors caused by an aftermarket air filter, and that it was fixed!!!! I've taken my Toyotas to Stephen and Claudia for over 10 years and have always been pleased.

I've been a customer of Toyautoman since 2008 or so. They've always been thorough and keep my 2004 Rav4 running without a problem, and I do challenge the little car sometimes (as Stephen will testify to). Last year Claudia and Stephen showed up at the County building to vote early. There was a bit of a wait to vote, and I said hello as I was working as an election worker.
