I just received extraordinary service at Master Tech today. I'm heading out on a roadtrip, and needed to make sure my Rav4 Hybrid is road-worthy. Not only did Amy and Annie do everything possible to get me in and out before my ETD, they were both warm and funny and authentically welcoming. Ari and his team are knowledgeable, skillful, and compassionate. While handling my tune up they found and resolved many issues for me, and alerted me to additional issues that might wait until after I return. Ari took the time to go over in detail, with both photos and drawings, everything that they discovered, and how they fixed the most pressing problems. They even popped my rear bumper back into shape where someone had caught the edge. Ari was keenly present and patient while reporting his findings. He answered all my questions and made helpful suggestions regarding what might be the next priortiy to address when I am ready. I walked away smiling, feeling like I received so much for a super reasonable final bill. I am beyond impressed. I feel 100% safe driving across the desert and beyond, and am looking forward to the next time I visit Master Tech. The integrity and caring are truly heartening. I originally went to the Master Tech garage on the advice of a friend of mine that started working for Ari. He told me that Ari was really thorough. Little did i know that Ari thoroughly ripped me off. He initially told me via text that my bill for the work would be $1100 plus tax but when i arrived to collect my vehicle, the price was more: $1587.51 Ari explained that my van needed new software for the electric engine and of course Chryslar charged for the software but having called the dealership after, I learned that Chryslar didn't charge anything for new software, Ari charged me $495 for software and charged me for labor (an hour) which normally takes 15-20 seconds to upload. He told me that he had to replace the electrical harness to replace the broken hood latch switch. If I had the foresight to order the hood light switch on Amazon, it would have cost $35.00, Ari charged me $225.00 for this item. After paying for service, I noticed that even though supposedly doing a overall performance check, ($75) they didn't bother to air up one of my tires, leaving me in a lurch and having to get it done somewhere else. At the performance review, Ari explained the repairs still needed on my vehicle, these included two new tires, a tuneup, allignment, replacing the spark plugs and other maintenance stuff. Of course, Ari and his technicians could do all of these repairs. He said that spark plugs would cost $400. When I looked them up on Amazon, they were priced at $99.00. I won't take him up on his offer to do the work on my vehicle. Thank goodness, I didn't make another appointment with Ari! Don't read any of the positive reviews, they were written by owner Ari. If you notice, the positive reviews are only a paragraph in length, whereas the negative ones are longer to include all of the complaints. I noticed advertisements for Master Tech in our local newspaper. How many mechanics need to advertise their services? Only the ones that have alienated previous clients, only the ones that are beginning to see their over charging finally costing them their reputations. Santa Fe is a "word of mouth" town, Ari 's karma is finally catching up to him and unfortunately, to the rest of the technicians that work at his garage. I told my friend that he needs to find another job. Even though I had to pay through the teeth, and I felt like I had been scammed, the garage fixed my car. It really was a win/win. read more

We are traveling around the country touring in our Motorhome, towing a car.... based out of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. ....... we were in Albuquerque, changed our own motor oil and after we started up to pull out, the Motorhome hesitated on kicking into gear to move. We were perplexed. We drove to Sante Fe, spent the night in a Walmart parking lot. Got up to leave the next day and the Motorhome really had trouble getting into gear. We were very confused. Looked on Google map for a garage that could check out our Ford Triton V-10. We found the closest place was Master Tech Auto Repair. We definitely made the right decision. The owner Ari Gordon came out...especially since we were blocking the road with our Motorhome towing a car, and we told him our situation and he immediately checked under the hood and diagnosed what the problem was. Which turned out to be out of transmission fluid ????. He had one of his mechanics come out and add a few quarts. Originally Ari said he wouldn't charge us for such a quick fix, but it ended up taking way more than a quart of ATF. So paying a reasonable amount for service provided to us on the street was not an issue. We were more than happy to compensate. The quick response to our desperate need and providing honest mechanical needs to people not knowing any garage..... priceless!!! If you want to get mercilessly overcharged, scammed or both - Mastertech is your place. Ari Gordon (the owner) is a living testament to why most mechanics are notorious for such bad rep. As one of the reviewers on Google+ pointed out a while ago, Ari is out for blood. Here is a quick quote which sums up this poor guy's experience: "He's out for blood. $480 repair turns into $3300 and it still didn't run right and he wouldn't stand by his work. Go somewhere else." My experience is a bit different though pretty similar in nature. A simple oil and fuel filter change which Ari quoted me at $43 + tax turned into a $150 bill. To top that off Ari took 4 full hours to do an at most 1.5 hour basic job. Now, I'm not the type of person to nickel and dime, especially when it comes to my business vehicle. And I honestly don't ever mind paying top dollar for the job done right. However when someone like Ari Gordon pulls some despicable, low-rent B.S. on me, this "used car salesman weasel" deserves every bit of my wrath. Here is how this went down. When I called his shop, the receptionist (Misty) gave me a quote after putting me on a long hold. Then she proceeded to tell me that they'll have a loaner vehicle for me when I show up, because they were highly concerned about me waiting around. I thought that was kind of weird, since nobody ever offered a loaner vehicle for such a small job as an oil & fuel filter change but decided to play along. When I showed up at the shop the receptionist let me know they ran out of those mystery loaner vehicles they promised, to which I replied: "Not a big deal, I'll wait." Four full hours later Ari came out with my bill. Looking through it I noticed he charged me $50 extra for a little plastic cap for the fuel filter, which nobody mentioned anything about previously. There was also an extra $43 labor charge on top of that. When confronted, Ari made up an elaborate story of how he had to personally drive to the dealership to buy the cap, which is why a 1hour job took him 4 hours to complete. In addition to that Ari tried to sling me over $1,700.00 worth of repairs he was convinced I needed right away. Smelling Ari's B.S. about this whole outrageously not believable story, I personally drove to the dealership (there is only one in Santa Fe) to confirm my suspicions. As it turned out, Ari had lied through his rotten teeth. The dealer didn't have those fuel caps in stock all day and informed me I'd had to order one. When I asked: "Are you sure nobody bought one from you earlier today?" the parts department guy looked at me like I had a fetus growing out of the side of my head. "Did I just not tell you, we haven't had them in stock all day, and you'd need to special order one if you want it?" That's all I needed to hear. (As a side note the dealer price on those caps is $32.38+ tax. Ari charged $49.13. Everyone knows dealer's prices are usually the highest around.) When I went back to Mastertech to confront Ari, he kept insisting that he really did drive to the dealer to buy that cap. Except for the moment when I asked him to show me the receipt. At that point Ari turned around and ran back into his shop with his tail between his legs yelling something to the effect of: "I'm finished talking to you because of your attitude." Truthfully, that $50 extra for the stupid cap and extra $43 for labor is not what really infuriated me. It was Ari's cunning way of nickel-and-diming a potentially lucrative long-term customer/mechanic relationship. I have a total of three vehicles. Between my truck a sedan and a business van I would probably have given Mastertech thousands of dollars over the years had Ari been a decent human being and not a scumbag most people view most mechanics to be. Unfortunately Ari fully embraced that stereotype a little too well that day. From now on I'm taking all my vehicles to the dealership. A little extra money is well worth not dealing with slime-bags like Ari ever again. So if you're still wandering if you should take your car to Ari at Mastertech, your wallet and your time have my most sincere condolences. read more

I do not like to write negative reviews but I feel I have a responsibility to warn people about this establish as I have never been ripped-off so badly in my life. Ok, here we go. I brought my 2011 Ranger in for new brakes. The owner called me quoted a price and specifically said that it didn't look like I needed new rotors so he quoted me a price below 500 or so. He also noticed that the lock mechanism and for handle had been stripped from the passenger door and he said he could get the part and repair for what seemed like a good price as I had already been quoted a price from another mechanic. He called the next day to say that the price for the door part was almost double what he quoted so I told him NOT to fix it and I'd wait. I showed up the next day to pick up my truck. There was a long line inside. The owner is in and out of the waiting room- there is some discussion between him and the secretary, who then gives me my invoice, which turns out to be double what he had said. He had gone ahead and charged me somewhere around $250 to take off the interior passenger door panel (which is plastic and attaches with clips). Additionally, the price for replacing the brakes was a couple hundred more than quoted. I told the secretary I wanted to speak with him- she got very agitated and told me I'd have to wait if I wanted to dispute the bill. After 30 minutes he returned- I said I told you not to replace the door handle you didn't even order the part so why are you changing me to take off the door? (I honestly believe that he saw me arrive and told one of his mechanics to snap off the door panel so I'd be roped into getting it fixed). When I asked him about the increase in the price for replacing the brakes he said, "oh that's because we had to install new ball bearings." I said well don't you always do that when you replace brakes. He got very angry with me accused me of not paying for labor. I said fine I'll pay for the "increase" in the price of the brakes. But why would I pay for labor I specifically did not authorize and is not even finished. He said he would take off the labor for the door panel. I waiting another 30 minutes while he goes to the back to fix the invoice. When the secretary comes back with the invoice the 250 (roughly) charge is still there, he had taken off something else. So he comes back I have to wait again. By the time I got out of there, I think I paid upwards of 700 for a brake replacement I had anticipated to be less than 500. read more

Took my truck there when we moved to Santa Fe I was having a problem with the turn signal not working. Had it checked out, they did a complete check and then had a consultation with me on what needed to be done first and what could wait. They prepared the list and the cost of service. I have taken my 14 year old truck to them twice and both time they have repaired what was needed at the cost they quoted me.The staff if friendly and competent. read more

There are many parts changers but few real mechanics. Ari at master tech is a real mechanic. He diagnosed our problem with efficiency and certainty. It was quite evident Ari was very professional and thorough with his assessment of the problem with our Ford F450 engine. On our way from our home in Louisiana to New Mexico and Colorado, we noticed the check engine light came on again. Two parts changers, one in Louisiana and the other in Texas, had worked on it without success before Ari diagnosed the problem correctly. He was able to fix the problem without affecting our vacation schedule too much. We were also impressed by the care and interest both Ari and Amy provided in our case. We went to the local Ford dealership to see about a transmission leak. They quoted an estimate of what we felt was a really high price. Decided to give this shop a try. Their quote was far lower. During this process, they did find something else wrong but took pains to show us the problem and explain everything to us. The price we were quoted for the additional repair was very reasonable (we checked online!) The additional repair and the repair for what we first came in for was still lower than the Ford dealership. My husband is pretty knowledgeable about trucks and he did suspect the second thing was wrong. Ford didn't catch that. We are glad we went to Ari and his crew. Thank you! You usually get what you pay for, and if you're the kind of person that wants to keep their vehicle for the long run, this is the shop for you! They're always busy, which says a lot. An estimate is still just an estimate, my bill was about thirty bucks over. They kept me informed both before and during repairs. They even prioritized some other work which needs to be done in writing with costs. Best of all my gas mileage improved over 25%!!! read more

I was turned on to Master Tech Auto Repair in Sante Fe, NM by a friend. Had them replace the original glow plugs in my sister's Diesel Jeep. The #4 Glow Plug was broken off and even when the ceramic core came out the metal sleeve stayed in.... they ended up tapping the sleeve, fitting a bolt in with lock-tite and pulling it out... They originally quoted 3 hours for the swap (which seemed very expedient).... By my math they probably put in 20+ hours on the issue (the owner was working on the jeep and texting me at 1am because he knew we were anxious to get on the road. They only ended up charging us for 8 hours of labor. The owner Ari, and all of his techs and people in the front office are amazing.... wonderfully positive and incredibly helpful.
