Mike is great to work with. He always solves my problems quickly and is very reasonable.

Mike had my husbands laptop fixed as soon as the part came in. Totally understood that my husband loved this dinosaur , slowness aside, and was willing to help in any way. Kept me up to date on ordering parts, delivery times, increase and then decrease in cost. Overall actually paid less than originally quoted. Great experience. read more

If I could give negative stars I would . Mike's computers has been a staple of the town of westerly for quite some time well over 28 years . Don't let their time in business fool you they only stay in business because of their networking PC maintenance contracts they have with a couple local businesses. From a customer off the street point of view they are a complete ripoff . If you need something and no one else but the internet and Mike's computers happens to have it and your in a rush that should be the ONLY reason you buy from them cause their markup is no less then a 200% markup . Their general business practice when it comes to trouble shooting and repairing PC's? yeah a joke . Years ago I was given a desktop computer it was an old one and it was from someone who had been in the navy college out Newport they said that there is a password built into it and that they're not sure how to get rid of it . So I brought it to Mike's and had them look at it, 3 weeks later of course I had to call him he said they could figure out where it was on the pc amd couldn't resolve my issue . So I went and picked up the computer and he charged me $80 for telling me he couldn't figure it out or where it resided on the computer . So I took the desktop home a bit disappointed because it was going to be my 1st real computer. I then thought to myself well I can mess with it what's the worst I can do to it , it's not like I can use it anyway with a password on it. So 1 by 1 I took out IC chips from the motherboard turned the computer and if it wouldn't turn on I shut it down put the chip back in and moved onto the bezt . I did this trial-and-error about 4 times and all of a sudden I turn the computer on and surprise surprise the password prompt wasnat there at all and I was using the computer . It took all of my 5 minutes of time to figure that out where his staff couldn't figure it out in 3 weeks ! They are a joke better off going to Staples or Best Buy for PC repair . read more

The long and short of it is Mike's Computer is inconsiderate and unorganized at best or rude and incompetent at worst. Early Jan or February of last year I brought in a used HP laptop to Mikes Computer. The laptop was fully functional minus a DVD drive. My knowledgeable friend told me that the DVD hardware worked but there was something wrong with the driver software where the computer wouldn't recognize it. I explained this when I brought it in. A few weeks later I get a call from Mikes. Their diagnosis was: the DVD player didn't work. That was less information than I gave them when I brought it in! They asked me if I wanted them to buy a new dvd player and install it. Knowing that the dvd player in there is fine and I'd run into the same driver problem with a new machine I refused. They said it'd be $35 dollars and I could come pick it up anytime. I was pissed that I spent $35 for something I already knew. Not even getting it fixed! The thought of going and giving them this money to get my laptop made me even more pissed. I decided to wait a week to calm down. I forgot about it for a few months (I used this one mostly for photo and video editing projects so it's absence wasn't immediately noticeable). In June I remembered about my laptop and stopped by for it. I apologized that it had taken me so long (they could have called me to remind me but I admit, I did forget it.) They couldn't find it. The older gentleman was very nice, took my information, and told me that after three months the laptops get moved into the back room and he was working alone that day because everyone had called out sick and he'd need help sorting through it. He told that he was sure it was probably back there because they had laptops there for a year. That they'd call me tomorrow. The next day a fellow called looking for more information and said they would continue looking for it. A few months pass. Now it is October and I call again. I end up having to explain the situation all over again. Again they are nice and even hopeful to find it. Not allowing myself to forget about it again I call the next day. After I introduced myself the guy on the phone said. "Yeah, okay. We'll call you when we find it." This was kinda rude I thought, at how he said it. The next few months I didn't get any phone calls to say they found it and I was low on funds anyway for Christmas anyway so I might not have had the money instantly if they called anyway but I was still hoping they were looking for it. That I had not been brushed aside and forgotten again. Then today I stopped by. I need my laptop back. It has my Adobe stuff. It was a gift and I don't want my friend to think I don't appreciate it. I inquire if they found it yet, just by chance. The guy had no idea who I was. I explained, AGAIN. He said "Yeah no, after three months it gets moved to the back." And I'm like "What do you do with those then?" And he replies "We junk them and use them for scrap." "You don't call the people and remind them to come get their stuff before you scrap it?" "No." "Why?" "Because they forgot about it." So if I forget to pick up my computer in three months they basically can do whatever they want with it?! I can't remember signing any agreement to this policy but at this point I don't even remember the model of the HP laptop! As I am fuming. Wishing I had any kind of proof so I could take them to court the guy says- "Look around, we have computers left here from '06." So what? It could be here? You're unorganized? What are you telling me? Are you implying people don't want their computers?I assure you I want mine but I'll probably never see it again. :( He took my name and number. We dropped off a laptop to have a virus removed on a Friday and picked it up on Monday. Only cost $50.00 and my 5 year old computer works like new. read more

My experience with Mike's Computers was definitely less than satisfactory.... I had a desktop computer and one day it stopped turning on properly. A friend with more tech knowledge than I told me that the Windows installation had been corrupted and it needed to be re installed or recovered or something. I brought it into Mike\s computers telling them everything that was wrong along with the analysis that my tech friend gave me. They told me they would check it out and get back to me with a price. Well they never actually called me and gave me a price. Instead, I had to call them a week later and ask what the situation was. Apparently, they didn't just repair windows, they BOUGHT a new copy of Windows 7, bought a NEW HARD DRIVE and charged me for BOTH. PLUS all the "labor" that they put into it. Next thing I know I'm being told it's going to cost me $320 for a 500 gigabyte hard drive and a new copy of Windows plus a new hard drive plus labor. Well a few years ago I paid $500 for the desktop. So I said screw Mike and went and spent about $500 on a new tower that works better than the old one, and for only a little more than it would have cost to repair the old one!! I highly recommend never setting foot in this store. Not only does the merchandise on the shelves have a ridiculous markup to it, but they overcharge for everything else as well. Mike's Computers? More like Mike's Rip-Offs. I went to Mike's Computers knowing a probable issue of my laptop: a failing CPU. I told them that I did not know the problem with the intent of finding out how truthful they are. Unfortunately, they were far from honest. They told me that I would need a complete motherboard replacement, with a quote of $200!!!!! Giving them the benefit of the doubt (as I am not a computer expert by any means), I went to their store to hand in my laptop for repair. Upon entering, I was overwhelmed by a foul cigarette smell - my second tip off that this place was bad news - and made the transaction with the most unpleasant employee I have ever encountered. Due to a tedious summer job as a bus boy, I totally forgot about my laptop until a few weeks later when I remembered and called them up. This is where I lose all my respect for this "store" as I found out that they had "fixed" and then "scrapped" my laptop because I failed to contact them. Enraged, I hung up on them and went don't to Mike's Computers as soon as time allowed me. It took no more than 10 seconds before I found my laptop, right down to the custom stickers I PLACED ON IT, for SALE as a "refurbished laptop." After confronting them about it and arguing for God knows how long, I left the place with nothing but pure hatred for this place. This is without doubt the worst organization that I have ever run into. I'm honestly not sure how they are still in business. Save yourself the time, money, effort and happiness by NOT GOING TO MIKE'S COMPUTERS. read more
