Stopped by for a quick bite at lunch after arriving with the ferry. Lunch is only burritos, no other options. Got the chili verde and the shrimp burritos, both ok. My wife enjoyed the shrimp one a lot. I was more on the meh side, mine was really bland and tasteless. Guacamole was fantastic, tortilla chips were delicious, seemed super fresh, maybe they fry them there? Salsa was also very good. We placed an order here on a Tuesday at 4:30 pm. Their website AND answering service say they are open Tuesdays at 4 pm. Our confirmation email said that our order would be ready at 5:11 pm. When we showed up at that time the place was deserted. No one in sight, doors locked, and no one answering the phone. Our credit card was charged and our order confirmed with TWO emails....one directly from Mijitas and the other from the online ordering service they use. When we got there, other people were also trying to get in to pick up orders, so it wasn't even just us. We had to deal with our credit card to get the charge removed and also deal with trying to find somewhere else to grab dinner and by that point were very hungry and frustrated. 100% do not recommend risking ordering from this place. We really enjoyed our dining experience at Mijita's recently. The staff was able to accomodate us without a reservation on a Tuesday night, but it got busy very quickly and we arrived right at opening. I would suggest making a reservation which we will on our next visit. The atmosphere was great, I had not dined indoors since it was under a different name I think Bilbo's years ago. My blackberry marg was delicious, as were the beef enchilladas. My husband said the tacos al pastor were alright. My side salad the dressing was amazing but was expecting a slightly bigger portion maybe with some veggies to accompany the greens, but it was good! Service was very friendly and attentive. We will be back! I wish they still did their outdoor cantina but maybe each summer we just try on the wrong days. read more

Ordered takeout here and thought it was great portions and pretty good food! I got the prawn tacos which I thought were perfectly crunchy and the lime added the finishing touch well. The beans were underseasoned but rice was good and I was happy with everything overall. read more

Fresh, clean and tasty food. The best we had in Orcas! Warm inviting space, like your dining in someone's home. Fireplace was running, margaritas were flowing and the sangria is made there too! Got enchiladas, but I'd recommend the Chile and cheese tacos more! All the tacos we had were delicious. Their crema is authentic and the chips were warm. We had a fun dinner there and I'd recommend a reservation, even if that feels silly. They fill up fast in this off season time and with only five tables inside, you want to make sure you have time and space to enjoy your elote! read more

The food here is average at best if you compare it to Mexican Food in any large city. The salsa had no flavor, the guacamole also was bland (how you screw up guac is beyond me), the margaritas were nothing to write home about and the entrees were ok only because they used fresh seafood. The setting was nice and on a good night sitting outside is lovely (they provide blankets for people that get cold). Is this the best Mexican restaurant in town? Probably. Does it beat any good Mexican food you have had elsewhere? Absolutely not. Don't go here with high expectations and you will leave satisfied. read more

We arrived at Eastsound later than expected after a long hard and hot day of biking and hiking up Turtleback Mountain and finding our AirBnB on bikes, then getting back on the bike and coming to town. We inquired around and were impressed with the service at Mijitas. The hostess and waitresses seemed eager to help us and very quickly we were seated out back with a drink in hand and smile on our faces. Thank you Katie S! As we relaxed with margaritas made with mexcal we decided on some apps and some Mexican pork tacos. The pork was very yummy, salty and fall apart tender, but also very fatty. We picked apart the meat and ate about 2/3 of it, the rest being too much like globs rather than pieces. Well made I'm guessing, just not my thing. The roasted corn app was super - we are really into these whole grain corn and bean dishes and this was a good one! If I was coming back to Orcas I'd make a visit to Mijitas again for sure. read more

Perhaps our expectations for good Mexican food are higher because we're from Southern California where there are great Mexican food. This just measures up a-okay by those standards. The chile verde was disappointing. An order comes with a modest serving of the pork, which was in small chunks and not very tender, and black beans and rice. The carne asada was tasty and cooked just right. The portion was again on the small side as our young one was able to finish his adult size meal (his brother was disappointed to not get any leftovers). The enchiladas topped with spicy red sauce was wimpy, not much kick. Lastly the grilled fish tacos came with a smallish piece of red snapper, not big enough to span the length of the tortilla. The chips were served warm and the salsa was good. They readily refill the chips upon request. The kids menu is only for up to age 6. Since we didn't have reservation, we sat outside on a chilly early evening. Fortunately they have ponchos to fend off the cold. Overall the meal was good and should satisfy most seeking Mexican food but it was just a-okay for us. read more

One of our favorite local eats - my husband loves the carne asada and I love the enchiladas but with mole sauce - yum!

Maybe we were there on an off night. We were seated quickly since we came in early (around 5 or so). The service was good and attentive. The chips and salsa were tasty. We ordered the carne asada and the pork tenderloin. The steak was cooked as ordered but tasted a bit salty. The refried beans were runny and average. The mexican rice was pretty tasteless. The pork tenderloin was cooked well and mostly tender, but had some gristle and fat sections. The sweet corn mash was tasty, and helped lower the temp of the sauce (mole?) on the tenderloin. All in all we didn't think the meal and 1 drink for each of us (margarita and glass of wine) was worth the $90. My wife and I agreed it was average at best. read more

The food was amazing. I have had my share of Mexican cuisine ~ taco trucks to corner stores and upscale restaurants. The creativity and flavoring was just out of this world. My wife, daughter and I ordered the chile rellenos, chile verde, and beef short ribs. The chile rellenos were very good with a nice coating of batter topped with a flavorful red sauce. The interesting part was the addition of mushrooms to the stuffing which made it more interesting with a different flavor profile. The chile verde was just so good. The verde was really good and not overpowering so that the taste of the pork came through and was cooked to perfection. So darn good. The best I've had and better than my home cooked. The beef short ribs were just so so good. The beef was tender and set on a bed of Mexican rice that had a blackberry mole which was to die for. Also, it was topped with pepitas which added a nice texture and nutty flavor. The next time we go back we are going to switch it up and probably get the same thing but change who gets what :D. Plus, I would really like to try the churros and flan as they look amazing as well, but we were too full to order more. Regarding the person who had a bad experience ordering on a Tuesday. Yeah, that's a bummer. When we arrived on Orcas we wanted to try Mijitas because of the reviews. We sadly had to wait until they were open on Tuesday. The web site was wrong as well as Google about hours / days, however there is a sign outside that says "reservations highly recommended" and I would agree. It is very popular for a good reason. I would say be patient and plan ahead and be forgiving during these times. They were super nice and the food was just the best Mexican food I've had. read more

I love everything about this restaurant, from the thoughtful service, to the community vibe, to the absolutely delicious food. I love just about everything on the menu, from the ensaladas to the enchiladas, with the tacos al pastor not to be missed. Their margaritas also happen to be dangerously good. Tonight we started with Margaritas, chips and salsa, and the oysters appetizer, followed by the Chili Rellenos, and the B52 coffees for desert. It was fairly cool so I had made our reservation for inside. Good plan because it rained before we finished. It's a great restaurant, with great staff. You will not be disappointed. read more

Definitely make a reservation, it gets quite busy. Even with a reservation I waited about 20 mins for my table. Service was excellent, so was the guacamole. Had to send my chicken entree back, as it was raw when I cut into it. Waiter apologized and took it back to continue cooking it. This was one of the few spots open on the island for dinner during our honeymoon. We're from San Antonio, so we know our Mexican food. I don't think we would have gone to Mijtas if it weren't for having difficulty finding a place to eat at all. But, we overall had a good/average experience. With covid, they are still offering takeout. I appreciated the ability to place our order online. You don't find out until the final page when your order will be ready though. So, we were ready to walk out the door to pick it up (we were staying 30 min outside of Eastsound), but our pick up time wasn't for an hour and a half. We've discovered these long pick up times are common all over the islands due to limited dining options right now. My husband picked it up and said the order was immediately ready when he got there. He brought it back to our hotel, and we sat down to eat! We both got crab enchiladas and subbed chipotle mashed sweet potatoes. The crab enchiladas were a nice island touch! They give a generous amount of crab, and the crab itself was tasty. An order comes with 2 enchiladas. The sauce on top was decent, but no spice at all. As for the sweet potatoes, they were the spiciest thing we got. The flavor was pretty good, and I liked being able to opt for a "healthier" option. We also got chips and salsa that came complimentary with the order. The chips were solidly crunchy and slightly salty - overall pretty good. The salsa is both watery in taste and consistency. Not enough spice or spices in general. I'm used to a spicier salsa in Texas, but even if it wasn't spicy but had more flavor with garlic, lime, cumin, herbs, etc. that would be an improvement. read more

When on Orcas we were looking for a dinner spot on a Wednesday and Mijitas looked yummy and allowed you to do reservations through Yelp so we thought we would give it a try. We arrived on time and were seated outside. The women who was seating us took us to our table but made sure to ask if I was comfortable with the table since it was technically a shared table (but with plenty of space in between the us and the other party) which I really appreciated since she could clearly see I was pregnant. The outdoor area was pretty big and had string lights out that they turned on when it got dark. Now for the food. My husband got the carne asada and I got the prawn tacos. Both were very good. The carne asada was prepared well, not super salty and not overcooked and the prawn tacos had really good flavor and toppings. Overall this was a really good dinner spot on the island and they were open on days that a lot of the other places were closed so definitely a good place to try! read more

Dressing was blah. - Beef short rib mole was the worst I've had in a long time. Every piece of beef was excruciatingly dry as if it had been microwaved 5x over. Completely inedible. I dined here with my family just after Thanksgiving. It's hard to get same day reservations so you have to plan in advance. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The chips and fresh made salsa were so good...we filled up on them and had to take most of our entrees home! I thoroughly enjoyed the Chile Verde as the pork just melted in my mouth - so flavorful! My son had the Tacos al Pastor and my companion the Dos Enchiladas. They both enjoyed their entrees but they were definitely eyeing my selection!! Going back again this week! read more

We should have known by how rude the manager/hostess was when we first arrived. We had three in our party and asked the assistant for more salsa when she brought one and were told "only two". We were put in a back yard play area since we didn't have reservations (didn't know). When others of our yacht club arrived later, we invited two to join us given tables were short. Then we found they had put all on one bill without our permission with a 20% gratuity and we couldn't pay our portion until the other parties had eaten and the total was paid. I don't write a bad review but this place and these people warranted it. Find a restaurant with good food who wants your business and treats you kindly. read more

Cannot believe we found such amazing Mexican food way out here! We were used to eating the best Mexican food in San Diego, and having relocated to Seattle we have been searching for some good stuff. Until Mijitas, I was convinced there was none. Seriously tasty and authentic food. We got the fish tacos, enchiladas, carne asada, and carne asada nachos. ALL of it was so good!! Delicious. The crab guac and short ribs with blackberry molé are standouts. And the corn appetizer is spectacular but we had to scrape off some of the mayo/crema topping because there's a ton of it. Spicy margarita is perfectly spicy and fresh. Crab enchiladas are very good but the roasted red pepper sauce feels like the wrong sauce for them. Tons of crab inside. Delicious sopapilla and flan.
