    Carne asade plate

I think this place is good for the drinks, the ambiance and the service. I was not pleased by the food. I ordered a medium-well carne asada and got a bloody medium-rare. The rice had no flavor unless I mixed it with the beans and they were pretty decent. I hate to write bad reviews but I was not impressed by the food but loved the service, drinks and our hostess. The food is decent for Mexican cuisine but go for the drinks.

We had a 6 PM reservation Saturday in June that happened to coincide with the high school graduation. We saw there were several families dining together. We were seated outside pretty swiftly, but it took quite some time for the servers to even bring us water and then chips & salsa. We do understand it was a busy weekend and evening, so no worries! When the food was delivered, it was absolutely worth it - as my salad with grilled chicken was absolutely delicious. Very fresh ingredients and the chicken had a delightful flavor. My husband enjoyed his tacos meal as well. For the food - this is a definite go-to! Just make sure you make a reservation (as during our stay they were quoting one hour wait to walk ups) and if it is a busy evening, just be a little patient with service.

The place was busy so glad that we had reservation. It was getting chilly for outside seating, but the host was able to accommodate. The service was great even though they were busy and were running around. Several vegetarian options. The enchilada with the mole sauce was likely put under the broiler, which gave caramel and smoky undertones to the dish. So delicious. The pollo al carbon was one of the best that I've had, grilled to perfection, accompanied by rice and a side salad that complimented the chicken. Also can't beat warm tortilla chips with salsa. Very satisfying dinner.

Our server was super friendly and very attentive! Even though the place was pretty busy, we were seated promptly. We sat outside on the patio with birds chirping around us, each enjoying a yummy signature cocktail. We had chips, salsa, guac, then I ordered the prawn tacos, my husband had the chili verde. We both agreed the food was fresh and hot the spot! Only open right now a few days a week, we were bummed when it was closed Sunday night. Next time we are on the island, we'll definitely return!

Traveling with little kids, we try to find kid-friendly food options and Mijitas is definitely the place that caters to families with little ones. The shrimp tacos were wonderful and so were the oysters. We're from CA so rating Mexican food can be tricky since we have an abundance of it in CA. I love that a good amount of restaurants have kids menus, including Mijitas. They also have a swing and a little kitchen to occupy the little ones while you enjoys a margarita.

Surprisingly sizable menu for an island restaurant. We did our best to try a little of everything without hurting ourselves. The chips and salsa are delicious, the salsa is the best I've had in Washington and only second to my beloved Pappasito's. The salad was pretty great except for some wilted lettuces and too toasted pepitas but the guacamole scoop on top was perfection...so fresh and flavorful. The vinaigrette was also very nice. My honey enjoyed his house margarita, one of 9! options...coconut was a tempting second. I liked the fish taco dish--the habanero crema wasn't as spicy as you'd think and I'm a corn tortilla gal. The beans for both dishes were tender but pretty bland (black and pinto). The rice was nice and flavorful. The enchiladas seem to be a common fave as I heard practically every table ordering them. My honey enjoyed the new combo but missed some flavor/seasoning. We contemplated dessert and after having no photo to tease us, we thought why not? So glad we did! We ordered the house chocolate sauce but they were out and subbed the caramel automatically. Usually not a fan of cajeta but this caramel sauce was incredible. Better than Molly Moon's kind of caramel. The churros are chewy and hold their flavors without being oily or too sweet, excellent combo. Service was quick and they were working to keep us moving (no chance to be hangry with those warm chips and smooth salsa) and I was so relieved to see they give us our own pitcher! Would go here anytime we visit Orcas for sure.

One of our favorite local eats - my husband loves the carne asada and I love the enchiladas but with mole sauce - yum!

The pork was out of this world, best pork tacos I've ever had. Fish and shrimp tacos were good as well. This could be the best Mexican restaurant in Canada and it's just sitting out here in the middle of nowhere. Friendly staff too, appears to be family run. If you live in Victoria it's worth the drive to check this spot out

This is about the worst Mexican food I've eaten, and I've eaten in many Mexican restaurants,…read moreincluding in Mexico. I got chicken quesadillas. The chicken inside was ok. They arrived on a paper in a plastic basket and were drenched in grease. The sour cream on the side was very watery. The salsa fresca was mostly just diced up flavorless tomatoes; very bland. Plus there was just a tiny cup of each, so not much to cut the greasiness. Waitress never came out to see if I wanted anything more. The horchata (rice drink) was also at least twice as watery as normal. Are they cutting costs by watering things down? The outside eating area could have been nice, but it is very neglected. The pots held mostly weeds and the seats and ground had lots of old dead leaves. It's summer now, not Fall, so those leaves have been there a while. The food was very slow in coming even though there was just one other table. (Folks at that table were also complaining of the long wait). The reggae music was nice (but a further indication this is not a real Mexican place). This place needs some serious attention from someone who cares.

The massive wooden furniture is impressive and surprisingly comfortable. This place has been loving restored and cared for. It was an absolute pleasure to be here and to sit on the veranda. The food was very average, although the Mansion Burger sounded amazing--maybe we just ordered wrong. The scallop/ halibut cake stole the show. I should have ordered two of those, along with the extraordinary Cole slaw ( best ever Coke slaw, imho). Sadly, we didn't stop at the scallibut cake, and the rest was disappointing; wedge salad, drowning in a watery blue cheese dressing, and overcooked lobster ravioli, served with four beautifully prepared scallops. I would return, but I'd order differently--just appetizers and skipping everything else. Drinks and scallibut cakes would make for a 4-5 star meal. The service, by the way, was just okay. She hadn't tried much of the menu, so she wasn't able to describe the dishes very well. She was great about checking on us and warning that the kitchen was slow (it was slow, but we loved taking our time and watching the sun set over the bay). Nothing was awful--what we ordered averaged out to be just ok.
