What a great value. Order the baby flounder plate for lunch. Came with three nice portions, dinner is 5. Very clean restaurant and wonderful service.

Great food and excellent service. And reasonable prices. Well worth the 30-minute drive. We'll definitely be back.

We arrived at 9:45 on a chilly, drizzly day and there were probably 50 people in line ahead of us. There was a friendly staff member monitoring and organizing the line and she told us we were there on a 'slow' day because of the weather. After the restaurant opened at 11, we waited in line for probably another 45 minutes until we got inside to order. The brisket was great, but the best things we had were the kolaches (stuffed breakfast rolls available before they open), Cheerwine hot link sausage, and fruit crisp. The Cheerwine sausage was the biggest surprise. It had a great flavor and wasn't sweet - I've never had anything like it before. When we get a chance to go back, we'll probably skip the pulled pork and mac & cheese. They were fine but there's a lot to try and these weren't anything special.

If you don't want to sit in line all morning you can go later but they might be out of some things. We went this weekend and went around 2. We waited outside for about 30 minutes in a short line and then inside it took about 30 minutes waiting plus ordering time but so worth it! We got brisket, bacon burnt ends, short ribs and Mac and cheese. They were out of a few things we wanted to try but we'll be back! The brisket was so flavorful and moist. We got the less fatty because I dont like fat! The bacon burnt ends are so good! Even the fatty part is amazing and flavorful and I hate fat! The mac and cheese is cheesy and so good. If you like bbq this is a must try. The inside is small we took ours to go because it's not far for us. Be prepared to wait but its worth it.

Right texture and good portion. Ribs are beautifully cooked to perfection. Season very well. Good smoke ring on meat. I paired it with the bbq sauce which was sweet and tangy. Very good ribs. The portion was perfect. Next time I will go with one meat Va two meats since the portions are generous. Hush puppies were pretty good. I like the fact they made a center indentation to make sure they are throughly cooked. The flavor was just right not overly cooked or salty. More of a sweet batter taste. The customer service was pretty good. Really fast service and they move that line pretty quickly. Over all it's a good choice for Carolina BBQ. I will definitely come again and try something new next time around.

For $16 you can get hush puppies, two sides and BBQ entree. These are some of the best hush puppies I have EVER had. It's a lot of food too. I visited Stubbs at roughly the end of a 13 hour road trip (ok, there was one overnight 9 hours…read moreinto that) from MA to NC. There was no way that I was going to have driven all the way to North Carolina without eating authentic eastern North Carolina barbecue. Stubbs totally fit the bill. It's in an entirely unassuming building that looks like it at one time might have been a house, but has clearly been home to the restaurant for many years. But whatever. You're not at Stubbs for the atmosphere (not that there's anything wrong with the ambiance...it's eastern Carolina roadside barbecue.). You're here for the food and in that sense, Stubbs does not disappoint. The pork was fresh, moist, and well-seasoned. Perfect. The sides were abundant and well prepared (slaw, greens, stewed beans, etc.). And the hushpuppies were sweet and crisp and not at all greasy. Plus, the staff - particularly the guy taking orders - were kind and accommodating (taking time to answer questions and explain things to my traveling companion who was not particularly schooled in the subtleties of regional barbecue varieties...which is a critical skill if one is going to navigate North Carolina's unique and sometimes contentious barbecue environment). Everyone here was having a good time and yet were taking care of the business of making and selling some of the best barbecue I've had regardless of style or location. If I lived around Carthage, I'd be going here for takeout pretty much weekly. While on a road trip, it's a must-stop location.
