3pm on a March Sunday. One waitress to care for everyone. 7 Tables. Out of burnt ends and ribs were not done at 4 pm. Ordered brisket sandwich with beans and hush puppies. Since no ribs or ends husband ordered a burger . Unsweet tea was musty changed for water. Brisket was bland dry Bake Beans were good as were the Mac n cheese Slaw was warm like it was under a warmer. Burger was good tasty cooked as ordered. Need more staff. Needs to do a deep clean

I found this spot on Google... and decided to got it a shot on my way back from camping at the NC State Fair as I headed back to Charlotte. If you don't have the exact address it's easy to miss this hidden gem. We sat inside at a table and a very friendly waitress was able to put in our order in a quick and friendly manner. So here is our highlights: chicken, ribs, sausage, and corn bread was a 10/10. The various sauces were a treat to share on all the different meats that represent different NC bbq flavors which we thought was fun. We thought the brisket could have been a better quality beef but that's being picky. The only thing we would share for others is, maybe eat outside as the flies inside were a bit persistent and maybe some mitigation from management for future customers and improve inside dinning experience.

Walked in and was brought right to our table. Asked our drink order and given our menus. Our server was on top of everything. Food was some of the best BBQ that we ever had. So DELICIOUS. This is a local and casual place. We will be back again. This is a hidden gem!

Thank you to yelp and all their contributors!! Another great meal in a cozy little spot! We started with the burnt ends, crispy and delicious with the smoky sauce. Do not be deterred by the word smoky! It was the perfect blend of sweet and savory! We then had the small sampler with Mac and cheese and red slaw. Some of the best Mac and cheese! Should rename it as cheese and Mac because there was so much cheese. Every meat was on point, juicy and flavorful, the sauce platter was great to mix and sample all the flavors. Red slaw was great, hush puppies were a hidden gem with corn chunks in them. Great meal and great service!

Great food, way to much to eat

Really good food with crazy big portions. Service was polite and friendly. It's just a hole in the wall, but 1 you need to go to if you are anywhere nearby.

This is a great place to get bbq if you like it. Location isn't very great if you're not from around here. But if you like really big portions for a decent price then this us the place. Brisket was incredible and pulled pork amazing. Kids enjoyed the hush puppies, boneless wings and Mac and cheese. The staff was great and not a long wait for food. Did I mention the portions lol? I had to take half the brisket off my sandwich to fit it in my mouth. So if you like bbq this is the place for you.

Nice interior and friendly staff. Classic small BBQ joint. The service was quick. You choose the kind of meat you want and the sauce on the side. We both went with pulled pork. Me the sandwich and her just a 1/2 lb. The pork is good even with out the sauce. I got the vinegar slaw which I liked because it's not chopped into a mush. She had the creamy slaw with she didn't like and they took of the bill. Both slaws on the side. The Mac and cheese I had on the side was excellent. Creamy and served in a small skillet. I saw lots of others order it too. The bourbon sauce I had was a great compliment to the delicious pulled pork served on a toasted bun. She liked the pork too and took her leftovers home. The Eastern bbq sauce she did not like and it was just a not particularly tasty vinegar with no spice to it. The corn bread was a sweet one and OK but we both prefer an unsweetened regular buttermilk corn bread that's a bit thicker. We'll be back to try the desserts and other stuff but the meat we had was tasty and I'll definitely be having the Mac and cheese again.

The original Smithfield's was opened in Smithfield in 1977, with the Clayton operation beginning in 1979. Since then the restaurant has greatly expanded across the state, now totaling 41, with the 2 furtherest west being in Greensboro and Charlotte. Over the years, I've eaten at perhaps half of the Smithfield locations, and have rarely been disappointed, and in the few where I was, it centered on the service, not the food. As with so much in the restaurant area, things have changed and will surely continue to change with pork barbecue in North Carolina, reflecting changing tastes and changing processes. For example, fewer and fewer cooked over hardwood coals, and very few cook the whole hog - in fact, I think there are only 4 (all in the east) that still do - Skylight Inn, B's, Grady's, and The Pit. Smithfield very much mirrors the changing nature of NC BBQ over the last 30 years or so. The pork bbq for ALL locations is cooked in Smithfield and then shipped to the various locations. Obviously, what you get is less than just off the rack fresh. Still, if I'm close, then a pop in for a combo of bbq and chicken works. I like their slaw. the hush puppies are fair at best, the hot dog totally sucks, and the Chicken Tender Sandwich is really, really good! Don't consider this a destination bbq spot, but I will still go from time to time if driving by. There is some bad bbq sold in NC, but it is most often found at a grocery store or a convenience store - if it has gas pumps keep moving!

I have run across 3 version of their pork barbecue (there may be more). 2 Pulled Pork varieties - one in their Original Carolina BBQ Sauce (vinegar based, supposedly Eastern style) and one with a Tangy Tomato Sauce (their Western style sauce). Both are very, very smokey and the texture is not bad for pulled pork - a little stringy, but not dry knots like some. Neither sauce is memorable, very weak versions of the ones made in house in good barbecue joints offering either style. You know immediately that this is a commercial product, prepared and packaged in bulk - and if you've bought a BBQ sandwich in a non-BBQ joint, you've encountered its ilk. The 3rd version I found is definitely not pulled pork - it is minced, and minced again, to the point of having an appearance and texture of a smokey pork pudding. This is not barbecued pork in any form I've ever encountered.

Slinging burgers in a tiny place like Siler City since the 1940s?! Well you gotta be doing…read moresomething right to achieve community institution status like that, and I finally had the good fortune to be in the area of this spot during their limited hours... so I had to stop in. Johnson's doesn't look like it has changed much since it first came to be. Fairly tiny on the inside, and showing a lot of wear on the outside, it's got the look and charm of a place that has spanned over 75 years of service. That said even though it is dated, the inside looked nice and clean to me. There is lunch counter seating, that if you are a tall individual, might be a tight fit for you, but the booths aren't going to be any better. So after jamming my knee into the wall under the counter, I achieved a fine degree of man-spread, and was reasonably OK after that. From my seat at the counter, I had a perfect view of their process and burgers sizzling on the flat-top grill. Each burger hits the hot top with a sizzle, is smashed down (but not quite to smashburger thin-ness), gets flipped, is adorned with a thick chunk of Velveeta cheese, and gets half a bun on top to let it steam up real good. The other half the bun is to the left, where a dedicated person is assembling all the toppings. When ready, they put the halves together, wrap it up, and send it your way. Fast and efficient, but all patties are 100% cooked to order. I also got a hot dog all the way, order of fries, and a fully sweet tea as they were out of unsweet. They were also out of pickles, and don't do grilled onions, negatives for me because I like my first try to be simple. grilled onions, pickles, burger sauce if available. They also charge extra for lettuce and tomato. I just went ahead and had my burger made the same way as my hot dog, all the way. It made for one hell of a mess, but it was delicious. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but to be honest, neither the burger or the hot dog would rank in my top 5 in the state. Doesn't really matter, as at the end of the day, I would certainly come back here because I am sure it's the best burger in the area, and given the amount of burgers and hot dogs I have eaten being "outside the top 5" doesn't mean you're doing poorly. Cash only, so come prepared, but definitely come!

The owner passed away a few weeks ago. I could sense something happened from some of the conversations with the regulars. He left a legacy that his parents started with the simple menu and the quality beef. My cheeseburger was served hot with the toppings I ordered and that melted cheese. Food takes about 20 minutes to arrive at your car. Plus it's poor quality for the price. We ordered popcorn chicken, pretzel twist, ice cream, tator tots, and mozzarella sticks. The tator tots were the highlight of the meal. The popcorn chicken would have been better plain, but the options were Buffalo or Honey BBQ sauce. We chose Buffalo hoping it would be on the side. No luck, the chicken was covered in Buffalo sauce. It was not good and unfortunately was discarded. We ended up driving straight to Bojangles after for chicken. The pretzel twist was warm, soft, salty, and greasy, overall not bad. Ice cream and mozzarella sticks were okay.
