The restaurant looks new and it's very clean and organized. The staff are super helpful and friendly. You can actually smell the smokers from outside when you pull up and that's a great sign to me that the meats will have that delicious Smokey flavor. I have tried their Brisket, Jalapeño Smoked Sausage, Pulled Pork and Smoked Turkey. All of their meats are delicious and have great flavor, and I highly recommend the Brisket. Their sides aren't bad either. I've tried the Mac n Cheese, Baked Beans, Greens and Coleslaw. I enjoyed them all but I think the Baked Beans need more meat and BBQ sauce in them IMO. Their sauces are especially yummy. Try all of them and pick your favorite. I would recommend this restaurant to any visitors in town who are wanting good BBQ.

My dining companion received an even larger serving of the coarse chopped pork. I got to try a bite, but I preferred the chopped pork. The red slaw was finely chopped and very tasty. It was somewhat tame compared to other variations of red slaw that definitely have a little kick, like at Whispering Pines in Albemarle. The crinkle-cut fries were not quite hot and moderately crispy but were upstaged by the rest of the meal. It's all counter service at Henry James, but everyone was very friendly and genuinely trying to provide great customer service. When I look at the quality of the food, the large portions, and the incredibly reasonable prices, Henry James Bar B Que is a winner. Highly recommended!

My food didn't reflect the hype...at all. The pork tasted like a pork roast had been roasted in the oven in water without any seasoning, then chopped up and put on a plate with some bbq sauce that was also lacking flavor. The coleslaw was flavorless. The fries were edible, frozen crinkle fries. The hush puppies had zero flavor. The sweet tea was the star of the show.
