Nice dog with Red BBQ Slaw!
    Fred B.

The Chopped BBQ Sandwich here continues to be a personal favorite, one that I much prefer to Stamey's, which just won a vote for best BBQ Sandwich in North Carolina in a poll conducted by 10Best.com and USAToday. For me it is about the texture of the meat (here they go with a medium chop), and the Red BBQ Slaw, which has the perfect tartness, and blends very well with the meat. In fact, the BBQ slaw is so good here, I even eat it on a hot dog, something I rarely do.

No BBQ sauce in my 1/2 BBQ chicken! No flavor. :(

I decided to go for a BBQ dinner 2 nights in a row to compare 2 BBQ joints in the area I am staying. As a result, I like the one I tried last night much better. This one, first of all, the place was empty at 7:30pm. I went in anyway hoping for a pleasant surprise. I bought a 1/2 BBQ chicken with cole slaw and hush puppies and two additional sides - green beans & onion rings. Before I left the store, I asked for a plastic knife and a fork. A young lady who packed my food said they were in the container. Three things that disappointed me were: 1. Knife was not packed. 2. No BBQ sauce on the chicken or on the side. 3. The chicken tasted dry and not flavorful. Next time in in the area, I will just stick with the other one of my favorites.

Excellent basic NC BBQ restaurant. I say this because they have a relatively small menu, basic decorations & standard booths/tables. Not a slight, just my observation. We enjoyed a late lunch on a beautiful Fall Saturday afternoon. The BBQ was moist & full of good pork flavor. It was very clean with no fat or gristle. It had a light flavorful sauce. No discernible smoke flavor. All in all, a very good Q. The sides are much minimal, but good. Crinkle cut fries & onion rings were very good. Great food, good people, I recommend!

This chicken is so DRY! And only three hush puppies but I'm not going to hush up about how nasty this food is ........ WOW!

Chicken DRY as H***! Hush puppies taste burned and I don't know if this is potato salad are a jar of mayonnaise! This plate was just not good at and the only thing I like out of the whole meal was the tea! There was just NO seasoning on this meal at all!

You HAVE to get the hush puppies.

Normally very good, but today they left biscuit, gravy and hash browns out of a breakfast platter order. I only got sausage and eggs.

Unfortunately when I arrived at 5:30 both were already sold out. I went with sliced brisket, collard greens and Gouda Mac & Cheese. Everything was excellent! Good smoke ring on the brisket, meat was very juicy and not dry. Only complaint would be that I prefer the stems removed from my collards, not a deal breaker, just my preference. All of the BBQ sauces were excellent as well. The atmosphere was awesome, loved the old vintage hometown feel. Can't wait for my next visit, I will arrive earlier to try and get the daily specials!

The service was great with everyone there being super helpful and sweet to us first-timers. We ordered 1/4lb beef brisket (only my brother had that and really loved it!), sauced chicken wings, turkey sandwich with potato salad as a side, pulled pork sandwich with fries, and Smoked Gouda Mac&Cheese. Everything was delicious, especially the fries, turkey sandwich, Mac&Cheese, and the wings!! The place has a very warm atmosphere and we saw a lot of families enjoying their meals. Overall a great stop for anyone wanting to try Barbecue in the Triad area.

I got the sliced beef sandwich combo with slaw, okra, and sweet tea. My mom just wanted peach cobbler and okra, and we added potato salad and banana pudding for ourselves. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The pulled pork was tender and not dry. My sliced beef was juicy and seasoned well. The hushpuppies were good, crispy outside, soft inside. The fried okra was cooked right and not greasy. The potato salad surprised me in a good way, it had slices of bacon in it, which was different but actually really good. The banana pudding was good and creamy, and the peach cobbler was good too. Portions are generous. It's a lot of food for the price and definitely worth it. Service was good,we were in and out. No long wait. The ambience was good too. Nice spot, plenty of parking, easy to pull in and grab the food. No complaints at all when it comes to the service or the atmosphere. Like most self-respecting barbecue joints, BBQ Joe's lets the food do the talking: the dining area is strictly utilitarian. They keep busy here, but the staff are very efficient, and you won't be waiting long for anything. While BBQ Joe's serves up the chopped or pulled pork that is synonymous with the Tarheel State, don't go looking for the classic Lexington-style experience. They have a variety of sauces as well as ribs, chicken, smoked turkey, and brisket. Stop in before 11, and you can feast on a variety of biscuits. For my most recent visit, I picked up a chopped brisket sandwich with white slaw, a side of hushpuppies, and a banana pudding. The food was prepped quickly and brought out with a smile. The brisket couldn't touch what I had in Texas, but for High Point, it was definitely respectable. Though not as smokey as I would have hoped for, the meat was tender, and the sandwich held plenty of it. That said, the house Joe's sauce runs a bit sweet, and you might want to add a dash of something spicier. While the ring-shaped hushpuppies were addictively crispy and delicious, the banana pudding rated as tasty but unremarkable. BBQ Joe's is a reliable option for good food and fast service. You can find better barbecue if you're inclined to travel, but for High Point proper, this is it.

It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu.
