The Pik N Pig in Carthage, NC is the best in the area. My family and I have been coming here for a long time. We have always had great food and wonderful service! This restaurant is very clean with a very welcoming atmosphere (seating inside and out) and clean restrooms. The waitstaff are always very attentive and just all around good people. The cooks are amazing and cook your food just as you order. Very kid friendly, I've been bringing my kids here from wee little ones to teenagers. If you have not checked out their Christmas events with Santa flying in on a plane, you need to check it out. No matter how old you are, you will enjoy it. The elves will parachute from the plane while they put on a show, and Santa will fly in to greet the kids. This place is all around awesome!! I think fun is the best work for Pic N Pig. The food is solid, but the experience is what will bring you back as much as the food. They Pic N Pig is situated on an airport. You have the option to sit outside right by the runway. There are a couple of old planes to you to look at and several things of interest outside. We had five young children with us and they had a blast. The service was very good as well. The white staff is very friendly and seemed unbothered by any request. I ordered the smoked chicken and my wife got the brisket nacho plate. The chicken was good, although the breast was a little dry. You have a choice of a standard barbecue sauce as well as a spicy. Being in North Carolina, they are vinegar based but pretty good. I had baked beans and potato salad for my sides. Potato salad was good and the baked beans were baked beans. We did have fried pickles as an appetizer and they were well done and came out piping hot. The brisket nachos were good and I tried a bit of their pulled pork and it was very solid as well. When we arrived we were asked inside or outside, I chose outside, then got seated inside, because the outside tables were "wet." Waitress and rest of the service was very good. We had the pulled pork and brisket plates. The brisket was very lean. The pulled pork had almost no fat. The Honey BBQ sauce had absolutely no honey in it. The "better than sex" cake was advertised to have condensed milk and caramel in it. Sadly, not the case. IMHO not worth the drive from the Triangle. Employees extremely rude and on top they of that that didn't have enough seats for people before they opened so me being handicapped sat at a table close with a chair to get off of my bad leg, the employees had our club president come and tell me I had to move be cause they weren't open yet, mind you this is not inside it's outside in the heat which is where the seated our car club of 38 people outside with the flies, food was mediocre at best. We drove to Carthage to check out this restaurant and little runway for planes. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating and is decked out with bbq and air memorabilia. We had two toddlers so we took the food to go. I ordered at the cash window (which looks like it used to be a former post office with heavy wooden slots for letters) and the server was so helpful. Since we had never dined there before, I ordered a chicken platter with green beans and potato salad, bbq with 2 other sides and the fried chicken sandwich. Out of those, the fried chicken sandwich was actually my favorite! This is a neat place to have authentic bbq and take in the aircraft ambience. Prices are decent at about $14 a plate. This place was recommended by several people at my work, I took their advice and came here on a Sunday. Rightly it was packed since everyone was getting out of church, we waited for about 25-30 minutes to be seated which wasn't too bad for being a Sunday. We get seated and the waitress suggested us the fried pickles, we got them and after trying them we personally weren't great fans of them, in my own opinion they were too salty for my liking but the liquidity ranch was somewhat decent. I got the pulled pork plate with coleslaw and baked beans, my partner got the smoked chicken with coleslaw and a baked potato all the way. The pulled pork had no flavor whatsoever, it was fresh but very flavorless unfortunately, the coleslaw tasted bland and the baked beans tasted like they came from a can. The smoked chicken tasted flavorless as well with all the other sides, we asked to switch out the coleslaw and got some green beans and potato salad, the potato salad was kinda sweet but still had no flavor and the green beans tasted like they came from a can. In my OWN personal experience I didn't like the food only because everything was very "Plain Jane" nothing really screamed "Great Bbq". So cute, we sat outside. I had pulled pork which was amazing and moist. My husband had brisket and he even asked the waitress how the brisket was and she said it was wonderful and SHE LIED. It was thin, flavorless, like something a soldier would take out of a can to eat on the field during battle. The potato salad was lacking in flavor and I was disappointed they only had Mayo slaw and not red slaw. Okra was crisp. Hush puppies were texture wise wonderful but no flavor. The jalapeño butter helped. There were lots of older people there who prob prefer less spicy food so I get it which is why it gets 4 stars. We drove from Charlotte for the airfield ambiance. I'd founded this restaurant a few months ago and expected to surprise my BF for his birthday celebration b/c Pik 'n Pig was touted to serve the very best ribs in the state of NC. Imagine our surprise upon arrival to learn they D/C'd serving ribs in 2022 after an establishment fire and never began re-serving them; thus our need to only eat BBQ--which again we could have purchased the same much closer to home. Overall disappointing AND our server (Jerad W.) albeit very talkative and friendly was the least attentive and never returned (not even once) to inquire on our meals and if we needed something we found it necessary to wave/track him down to be attended too. We likely will NOT return given all these issues combined. read more

My daughter is OBSESSED with airplanes right now, so we had to check out Pik N Pig! We went on a Saturday and got there right as it opened. It was already pretty busy, but you could be seated indoors right away. We opted to wait for an outside table so we could have a view of the planes landing. While we waited we were able to see a few planes landing on the runway. About 10 minutes later, our name was called over the loud speaker and we were seated at a table with a great view of the runway! The menu had tons of options and the prices were great. I got the bbq plate with okra and mac and cheese. The table also had a few sauce options to pour on your bbq. It was a ton of food, I couldn't finish it all! They had so many amazing sounding desserts too. We split the Coca-Cola cake because it's not something you can get at most restaurants. YUM! The service was so wonderful and everyone was so kind to my daughter. When we arrived, there was only 1 plane, and when we left there were at least 12! Pik and pig is an awesome place with phenomenal food, everything we had was delicious! My husband had the pork bbq with potato salad and coleslaw (I'm not kidding when I say I have never had better potato salad or coleslaw, and I am picky) my son and I shared the combination plate smoked chicken and pork chop with Mac and cheese, French fries and a side of fried okra. The pork chop was so flavorful and juicy as was the chicken, and the side were perfect. We shared the banana pudding and again amazing!!!!! The service was wonderful and all the staff is so friendly, and the ambiance in side and out is laid back and fun. The restaurant is on a small airfield, they have a plane from ww2 on display along with some interesting plaques. We jumped on the deep fried pickles with ranch dressing and my son wanted some skins.She told us as she set the basket's of appetizers down they are HOT out of the fryer.And she was correct. I chose a combination of pulled pork and BBQ chicken.With a side of slaw and baked beans.My son got the beef Brisket with backed beans and fried taters and onions.His girlfriend got a breaded fried chicken sandwich and fries.The kitchen staff was busy especially just opening at 11:00 but our waitress was as pleasant as attentive as any restaurant I have ever been in.My pulled pork was very tender and had a good smoke taste. The food was very good I had the wings, and the sampler player plenty to share with 2. Meat was smoked well and very good. But let me tell you about their sweet tea. ORDERED: Regular Brisket plate with potato salad, baked beans and hushpuppies. A friend warned me about the brisket being dry but being a brisket lover I had to give it a try. Came out cold and had to send it back. Brisket was tender but dry and had no smoke flavor. Would not order it again. The sides were OK. Ordered a 1/4 smoked chicken plate with same sides to go. We sat outside and they had heaters outside which was heavenly because it was cold and rainy outside the day we visited. Our waitress was fantastic and on top of our party of 13. Our drinks never ran out, she made sure we had everything we needed while we were sitting there. I ordered a classic bbq sandwich, and it was incredible. Cooked to perfection, the meat was so tender. Ok this place is amazing - I can't believe it took me 6 years to finally come here and I can't wait to come back. Pik N Pig is located in Carthage next to a mini airport/air strip. People fly in to grab dinner at Pik N Pig so if you're an aviation fan, there are constantly planes coming in/out during peak dining periods! The weather was really nice so we sat outside on the patio and got a good view of all the action at the airport - the kids loved it especially. One plane even came back around and flew by really low which was fun. Besides the airport part, the food was amazing. We couldn't decide on what to order from the menu so we got the sampler platter which comes with a little bit of everything - pulled pork, brisket, chicken, french fries, baked beans, hush puppies and potato salad (we subbed for slaw). Everything was great! I liked the pulled pork but the chicken was surprisingly very good. The hush puppies came with jalapeño butter - such an amazing combo! The only downside is that I honestly didn't care for the bbq sauces they had but that wasn't necessary for any of the food items. For dessert, we got banana pudding and Coca Cola cake. The cake was alright but the banana pudding was delicious. I wish Pik N Pig was closer to Raleigh or else I'd go all the time. I roadie my motorcycle on a day trip and ended up in Carthage NC . Looking for a place to eat I decided to try the Pik N Pig at the airport. It was a beautiful day so decided to sit outside on the porch. I ordered spicy chicken sandwich w fries and sweet tea. The chicken was delicious and the bread was excellent. Besides the food the waitress who served me was outstanding. This is a gem of a place to eat especially on Friday as there was a lot of activity on the airfield. I saw several planes takeoff and land while enjoying my lunch. The folks that run this restaurant are very friendly and thanked me for coming when I paid my bill.
