Found kind of lacking for the $$$
James M.

Never had before & been wanting to try (family just relocated). Restaurant had plenty of parking, inside was clean and I appreciated the decor. Plenty of areas to wash or sanitize your hands. Customer service was good, the young man mixed our 1/2 Sweet Tea perfectly. They were out of dark meat which we found out after we ordered & sat down (kind of disappointed) - the meal itself seemed slightly pricey for what you got. One piece of chicken, with a small side-kick of a chicken part? The actual sides were decent, fries & hush-puppies were good & hot. The Potato salad & Coleslaw were pretty tasty. Lunch for 2 was over $21 and really not what we were hoping for. Be okay with not trying again except for the Tea & Pups.

The chicken was very good. The prices were not. Highest price chicken I've ever seen.

Embers BBQ - Chopped brisket with a side of sweet potato fries. Or is that "sweetpotato"? Good choice.

Pretty good for small town bbq! Their pulled pork sandwich was reallly juicy and flavorful - got…read moreslaw on top and it was delicious. Their brisket sandwich was less good in my opinion - a bit tough and dry. For sides I shared sweet potato fries and fried okra - both were good but the fried okra dipped in ranch was tasty asf! They only offer one table side bbq sauce which was a sweet vinegar based sauce that I really enjoyed. Food came out quickly. Definitely recommend! PS they have a decent variety of food on the menu but don't have sausages here yet.

I wish I could give this place a better review because it seems right up my alley. Counter serve…read morebarbeque is a staple in Texas and usually ends in a very good experience...unfortunately can't say the same here. About the only good thing is the price is pretty low and serving size reasonably big all things considered, so I guess I'll start with that. The people working there were super nice too. Some information first, drinks are bottled, including water, except for iced tea. They also don't serve sweet tea, they have "Sweetened Tea" which is not the same. The pulled pork was closer to pork mush and had almost no flavor at all. If you took a pork butt and put it in a slow cooker for a day and a half I'm not sure you would be able to tell the difference. I tried the meat by itself and even when I was trying to find a smoke flavor there was none. The meat was so overcooked that it turns into mush as soon as you start chewing it. On the way there, my wife asked me why a restaurant would only serve chopped brisket. I laughed and said a lot of times it means that they aren't good at cooking brisket, use cheap cuts and don't trim it properly (To save money), and so they chop it all up and drown it in BBQ sauce hoping you can't tell the difference. I was hoping this was an exception especially since it's one of the few places around here serving brisket. It was not. The brisket didn't have any intermuscular fat at all, the only fat came from what had been chopped into it. The meat itself was tough and it was soaked in BBQ sauce which still wasn't able to hide the dry/tough texture of the meat. I wish I had an earlier experience to compare this to especially with the history of good reviews here. I suspect they may be in the restaurant death spiral that happens when food prices spike. That would explain why there are so many good prior reviews and the later ones are tanking. Oh almost forgot, they have a lot of merchandise for sale up there that is very not kid friendly. If you don't want to explain what it means that "It's not a sin to get my sauce on your chin" among other things maybe take your kids somewhere else.

When I first visited Southern Pines years ago, my mom took me here. I was a little bit skeptical,…read moreI'm not going to lie. It's right next to a gas station and the name...well...let's just say I had questions. Usually it's the places that are a hole in the wall and dives that are the best, though. Let me just say...after I ordered my sandwich and saw that it came with pickles, I was already a happy camper before I tried the sandwich. That was probably around four years ago. Then I took a bite...and it was unlike any sandwich I'd ever had before. It did get a little messy, but what's good food without it being a little messy? Honestly, I'm kind of a mess so it probably had something to do with that. Four years later - nothing had changed. I love going there to get a sandwich when I'm in the area. I just wish they were open a little later. My top three picks are the Birdie, Greek, and Real Italian. You can't go wrong with any of them. I've also tried the Wally, Sand, Pitching, Flip, Original, and New Yorker (sometimes a family member will let me try some of their sandwich...and vice versa). All great. There is just something about my top three though. I love that they are made fresh to order, that you can customize them, that they have an option for gluten free bread, and unsweetened or sweet tea (their unsweetened tea is delicious). I usually get an extra pickle when I remember. They have decent selections for sides as well. Nothing like a good sandwich from Wedgies and a cool drink in the summer! I do wish for more drink and side options...but that's me being super nit-picky. Get yourself a sandwich from Wedgies! You won't be sorry. Sometimes, calling ahead or placing an order ahead is the best way to go because it's usually very busy. Give a nice smile to all the kind people there as well. They do work hard!

Unassuming location, but the capacity quickly became overwhelmed at lunch, because clearly many…read morefolks know how good these sandwiches are. Yes, the bread is quite peculiar but it's delicious, and the stuff between the "slices" is equally good as well as plentiful. I went with the Real Italian and found it full of flavor. Now I'll need to make a few return trips and try some of the other selections.
