Previous ten years we loved Thursday night is our family taco night. $1 delicious generous tacos and beef sliders makes a great value meal for the parents and kids. Nice social spot to meet the neighbors and the kids get to see their friends. Now we went once after the remodelling and new ownership which we know nothing about so have no bias. We ordered us and our teenage kids some gourmet burgers meals that were delicious. The service was very good. The beer selection was nice for the adults and the server suggested we get a bacon fried bacon appetizer which tasted good. The three of our party that ate this appetizer all were horribly sick in the time it took to leave and get home a few blocks. It was a pretty horrible result and we haven't returned since which is sad as we were formerly regular patrons. We assume the bacon appetizer was bad but with the dramatic increase in menu cost and suspected tainted food we have chosen to patronize the other local establishments. We suspect our experience was a fluke as we see the Midway seems as or more busy than it had been in the past. Perhaps we shall become brave enough to try again someday? read more

Only stopped in a few times, and only had the food once. Fun place to hang out, I might try to make it over here more often since it's right down the street from me. Both times I came it was kind of early, so it was quiet - which was nice. The food was good, we played some darts and pool and sampled some of their in-house beers. Friendly staff. I'm between 3 and 4 stars, but given that there are surprisingly few good options in Ft. Thomas, and this one is also smoke-free, I'm going with 4 stars. The interior is comfortable and pub-y. The side with the bar feels more like a standard sports bar, but the other side is perfectly family friendly. There's also outdoor seating in front and back (huge plus!). Service gave the feeling of being at a buddy's house--not the most professional, but friendly and gets the job done. It wasn't very crowded when we were there (6ish on a Tuesday) and the food and drinks came fairly quickly. Pretty good on draft selection, including good local representation, I did wish for a few more options on the lighter side--it skewed hoppy or dark. They do not have a kid's menu, but the prices are reasonable enough to just order/share regular items and they've got standard kid-pleasers like chicken fingers, burgers, etc. Here's the food run-down: -Chicken tenders: highly average, just like the ones typically served at a work or school cafeteria; kiddo liked, but I wouldn't order again for myself -Burger: there are specialty ones too, but I ordered the standard one to share; again, highly average, wouldn't seek out again -Side salad: about what you would expect--iceberg lettuce with slices of tomato, cucumber and onion on the side. Good portion for a 'side salad' and a healthier side/starter option, but this isn't exactly a salad kind of place -Fries: these are a $1 up charge with sandwiches (vs. chips) and definitely worth it, very good. Not sure if they were made in-house, but looked/tasted like it and we'll-seasoned -Fried pickles: just snagged a bite of my husband's and wasn't wowed. Nice, crisp light breading, but it's pickle spears vs. 'chips' which I personally don't care for as much -Wings: here's where Midway Cafe really shines; they smoke them and then flash-fry and the smokiness is what sets them apart. This is exactly what Ft. Thomas has needed. The new Midway (never been to previous one) is different than FTP and The Pub, but still has that local feel. The inside is clean and well done. Nothing too fancy, but most importantly smoke free! We sat outside and our service was great. The midway classic was REALLY good and the meat was certainly fresh. Prices are very reasonable. The owner checked in at our table a couple of times and he was very down to earth. Midway cafe is perfect if you're looking for a local spot that is smoke free and slightly nicer than some nearby options. It will be my go to bar in the area from now on. Called in an order for 60 wings for a family party. Staff was super friendly on the phone and at pickup. The wings are smoked and amazing tasting. The menu is limited but the food is very good. The meat is from a local butcher and both the chicken and burger were really fresh tasting. They have a full bar, nice beer and wine lists. Neither is huge but something for everyone. My issue is with the seating first. They have a series of six tops and only two four tops. Two of us ended up taking one of the sixes at the server's direction. The service was quite friendly but spotty. Sort of what one expects in a dive bar. Try it during the week if you can. read more

Drove by many times, but never stopped in despite living in Northern Kentucky for almost 20 years. Went for lunch and beers, was really happy we did so. The smoked wings are excellent and Stacy, the owner/bartender, was a lot of fun and very attentive. I've been meaning to write this review for a while and finally getting around to it. I'll try to keep it brief. Being an avid tennis player at Tower Park, which is adjacent to The Midway Cafe, I frequented TMC often with our tennis group of (4-8 folks) after tennis. The pub-grub and prices were decent, however the service was only mediocre at best. We tolerated the poor service because of the convenient location to tennis. Then in August of 2012 eight of us were dining outside after tennis when the waiter, Scott, got one of our guys orders confused. He asked for a salad and received fries. Scott admitted the mistake, brought out the salad and left the fries. While the unordered fries remained on the table a few folks ate some. Suddenly, Scott came racing back out panic stricken saying he has to take the fries off table because his boss,Tim, who evidently patrols the restaurant via webcam from his basement, saw someone eating them. Scott proceeded to scrape the fries from the patrons plate that contained his half eaten hamburger. Weird. I should mention prior to the 'fries' incident a lady with us sent back a nearly full draft beer that tasted flat. Scott replaced it with a bottled beer. No problem- right? Unbelievably when she receives her bill she is charged for both beers. We ask to see the manager, Tim. After some time passes, Tim, the owner, comes to our table. We ask him about the charge on the flat beer and he replies, "No one else had a problem with the beer so why shouldn't I charge it to you?" When someone said, "OK, Tim, but the beer was 90% full when it was taken back", Tim responded with, "She drank it so I'm going to charge her for it. " Asked about the weird experience of scraping the fries off of a patrons partially consumed plate , he replied, " I saw you guys eating them so I had the waiter take them." When trying to help him understand that we had been coming to TMWC for years and tipping very well, he responded sarcastically with, " I know, I know, you all are such loyal customers I should be grateful you are even choosing my restaurant." (I failed as this is not brief.) Let me close by saying the entire experience was sad because we like to see local entrepreneurs do well and surreal as we have never experienced a business owner go out of their way to make a bad situation worse. Had I not been there and a friend relayed this experience to me I would have a hard time believing it. Unfortunately, every detail is true. We haven't been back to the TMC, however, we did discover a charming little place a half block away called Ft. Thomas Pizza and Tavern and have been eating here since. My husband and I have been to Midway a few times since it was reopened. The decor is lovely - a vast improvement from previously. Glad the vintage charm (e.g., antique mirror, exposed brick) was important in the remodel. Beer selection is great. They soak pickles in vodka for their Bloody Mary's, which is cool. I find the menu a bit lacking, there isn't really anything intriguing on it. I wish there was more to variety in terms of types of food items. The menu items are very basic bar-type foods, would be nice to see a bit more imagination. We have ordered appetizers there, they were tasty. No complaints. read more

Midway Cafe is a very enjoyable restaurant located in Fort Thomas. From the friendly and efficient staff to the best games playing on the televisions, its atmosphere is welcoming and laid back. Most importantly, the food is great and reasonably priced. Would I eat here again? You bet. read more

We got carryout. Sure it's not going to be as good as dining in, but we were very disappointed. The chef salad had virtually no meat on it & was mainly iceberg lettuce. They forgot the ranch dressing. Yum. Hubby's burger was ok. My wings were slimey and tough. Grilled cheese was mediocre. Best thing was the fries and they were soggy. Best restaurant in Fort Thomas. Non smoking makes it comfortable to breathe and to enjoy your food. Live music is soft and enjoyable. The ribeye steak sandwich is amazing as are the cheese fries with bacon. The chef's salad is so large that if you fall in someone will have to pull you out. Extremely friendly staff and owners are not afraid to dig in and help out. read more

This is a stellar establishment. Wonderful food. The staff is so welcoming, caring, they go above and beyond. They cater to vets and Military. As a veteran visiting from out of town For 7 weeks this was a frequent hangout for me and my service dog. My new friends lived to gather eat, use wifi, talk, listen to music, and just relax. Amazing atmosphere and just always very good people with good conversation. Also they have darts if you like that for free. read more

Food was subpar and service was non existent. Won't ever go back. This place was recommended and after reading reviews I thought twice but decided to give it a try. Horrible decision. My wings were not just crisp they were burnt like black. The blue cheese was nothing but Mayo with a crumble of blue cheese. Service was very very slow. I wonder if the owners read the reviews because it seems like every one of them says service is slow. Wonder why they don't fix the issue. Their burgers are large, and delicious! I usually order just a regular burger, with lettuce, cheese, and tomato, and it is always perfect. I really enjoy their buns as well. I was intrigued by the bacon fried bacon, and had to give it a go. I was not disappointed! I was pleasantly surprised how much i liked the sauce as well. Also, their wings! They really are like no other wings I have had before. The flavors they offer are unique, and very tasty. I actually think they smoke their wings, and that makes them even better. This place is fantastic! Great service, food and atmosphere. They do have a limited menu but I have had a salad, burger and appetizers from the menu and they were all great. I had a burger (ground beef fresh from Ebert's Meats) and it was done perfectly. Well seasoned fries, not too thick but not too thin either. Beer selection was wide-ranging and leaned toward the eclectic side, though if domestics are your thing they have you covered. Holy cow! We went to the Midway Cafe expecting Mexican (clearly has been a while for us!) and walked into a fresh new look and menu. The menu was your typical bar food of burgers, sandwiches and wings. We took the server's suggestion and ordered the naked wings with sauce on the side. They were HUGE, smoky and delish! I worry about larger wings because they tend to be a little raw, but not these! They also have just started doing trivia on Monday nights, which delighted my husband to no end! The renovation has given the place a definite face lift. We can't wait to go back with our puppy as their patio is pet friendly. The only thing was the trivia music was a touch too loud. read more

"Decent Neighborhood Bar and Grill Goes to The Wayside" Definetly some bad decisions made by the owner, though the food is up to par with any other hole in the wall, its not even close the the place it was 6 or 7 years ago. if you are looking for a good place in Fort Thomas to drink its decent, and they have a lot of live music if thats your thing. if you want to stay in town for a meal with the family go to 915 or Warner's. A better watering hole is just down the street, you cant miss it its called The Pub. read more

I love that this is in walking distance from my apartment! We walked here on a Sunday evening for dinner because we had heard great things about the revamp. There was a rowdy crowd there which made it hard to have a conversation at our own table over the noise, but that's not really anything that is the fault of the cafe. We started with the cheese fries for an appetizer - covered in cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing. Yum! My fiancee got wings for his meal - they were HUGE, and he enjoyed them but said they were a little overcooked for his liking. I got a burger that had barbecue sauce, cheese, and an onion ring - very tasty. I was impressed that they source their meat from a local butcher shop, and the wings are never frozen - my fiancee said he could tell that from the first bite. There are some decent craft beers on the list, although nothing out of the ordinary. It's a great place within walking distance for me, and I look forward to coming again to try the bacon fried bacon!! read more

Worst service and food I've ever had here since they opened. Each outing proves to be a little worse than the last! You can't call "toast with a hint of cheese" a grilled cheese sandwich. Also you need MORE as in SOME vegetarian options on your menu. Blackbean or Veggie Burger would be great. read more

On Friday May 4th, 2012 at 7:30pm I went to Midway Café with my girlfriend for dinner and drinks. Little did I know it was going to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. BAD food and even WORSE, service. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 drinks when we arrived and when the "waiter" brought them to us he asked if we were ready to order food? I stated we needed a few more minutes to look at the menu. He FINALLY made it back to our table 20 minutes later to take our order. We placed our food order around 8:00 pm, and our food did not arrive until 8:31. It took 31 minutes to get a ruben, 6 wings, fries, and onion rings. On top of that the food was disgusting. It seemed like the shortening that fried the food was very old because there was NOT ONE french fry in the whole basket that was not burnt to a crisp. The wings were 1 step below the texture and consistency of beef jerky (or in this case, chicken jerky... If there is such a thing.) If so, Midway Café has it mastered making chicken jerky. The onion rings were the only thing that was even half edible. When I asked the waiter a question on the quality of the food he answered in a very rude way and walked away when I was in the middle of talking!!!! Good customer service...... On top of everything, I left my glasses on the table when I left and when I returned to get them the waiter said that he didnt have or see any glasses. And I am 100% sure I left them on the table.
