The interior of the restaurant is very well decorated. However the food and the service were mid at most. The girl working in the front counter, taking our order, was not very friendly and acted like she didn't wanna be there. The food was okay. The brisket was a tad bit dry as well as the mash potatoes. We ordered the meal deal and it was underwhelming. The sausage lacked any depth of flavor. The ribs were okay as well, nothing special about them. Very one dimensional flavors here, almost bland. We also order the catfish plate and it was probably the best thing there. Though there was undercooked batter in some pieces of the fish. I throughly enjoyed the hush puppies and the cream corn. All in all, it wasn't bad food but its not my place for bbq. In my opinion, there are much better places for barbecue. Wouldn't come here again. read more

We have lived in Old Katy two and a half years and finally tried Midway BBQ using Uber Eats. We got the family pack type meal with a little bit of everything along with an order of chicken tenders with fries for my younger son. The brisket is to die for sooo moist and the sausage to me had the perfect flavor - not bland but not spicy. Everyone in my family liked the bbq beans and mashed potatoes too. Everything was delivered with a generous amount of all the sides you like to get too - pickles, onions, jalepenos, bread slices and extra sauce, ketchup for the fries, and cutlery. Not sure why we waited so long to try them out but will definitely eat Midway BBQ again. For my family, this was a hit. read more

Hubby and I went here a few months ago, during a long and arduous quest for good barbecue in Houston. We still have not found *awesome* BBQ (suggestions welcome!), but we found a couple of pretty decent ones. I am happy to say that Midway BBQ is one of them. When I try a new BBQ place, I like to get a combination plate so that I can try a little bit of everything. But I am a Texas girl, whether I like it or not, and that means that there is *one* dish that will make or break you for me. It's all about the brisket, baby. If you fail in the brisket department, you just plain fail. So you probably already know that, since this isn't a one-star review, that means the brisket passed the test. Well.. Ribs - pretty damn good. They were definitely hubby's favorite, and they didn't go uneaten on my plate either. Sausage - well, it was sausage. I liked it, but it was nothing spectacular. But the sausage at a BBQ place is usually more of a filler meat that mainly serves to provide a little variety while I'm gorging myself on other meats. Brisket - *sigh* I have mixed feelings about the brisket. The brisket that *I* got was pretty damn good. I loved every juicy, beefy, briskety, tasty bite. My husband, however, was not so lucky. His brisket was very dried out, and dryness is the cardinal sin of brisket. You see, his serving was cut before mine, the last slices from that particular hunk of brisket. My serving, however, was from a fresh one. So, if you try these guys out .. and I *do* recommend them, you might want to try to make sure you don't get the ass end of the brisket. And get the ribs. Tasty. One more quick note: they are no longer located next door to the taxidermy part. They've actually opened a standalone restaurant that's maybe a block or so down the road. Midway is a refreshing alternative to the endless parade of chains that overwhelm Katy, TX. While visiting the area, it was nearly impossible to find a restaurant that isn't another prefab Landry's tentacle or the bland spawn of some other corporate overlord. Upon entering Midway, we might as well have arrived at Ted Nugent's man cave, sans the Wango Tango. Dead animals. Everywhere. They range from the usual suspects (elk, deer, bear) to the troubling (a plaque-mounted photograph of a mother and son hunting team posing manically with a dead cheetah) to the fictitious (a regulation size wooly mammoth head demands attention), fill most of the available wall space. Like most Texas BBQ places, you wait in line along the right wall and order at the counter as a perma-Fox News flat screen flickers from its wedged perch in the corner above. As for the food: the BBQ is served in old school, segmented Styrofoam platter dishes with the obligatory sliced-bread as edible napkin. The portions are medium-sized for Texas (i.e. large for the rest of the country). It is tasty. We sampled just about everything, and everything was above average. The brisket was moist and had a good texture, the ribs were tender, the sausage had good flavor. Some people have been knocking the sides on here, but I thought they were more than adequate. Next time I'll try the jerky as I've heard good things. If you don't have time to venture to the rural bastions of BBQ out in Hill Country, and you don't feel like heading to any of the other banal franchises that crowd the Katy freeway, check out Midway for some authentic Texas grub. read more

They've been around for decades. The location is actually part of the store next door and you could easily miss this place if you weren't looking for it. It is small. However, the food is spectacular. It is easily the best barbecue place in Katy, at the very least Katy proper. I haven't been here in about 7 years, however when I used to work in the area I would stop in here at least twice a week just about every week for 2 years straight. The meat is always freshly prepared (they have a taxidermy in the back of the store!) and everything is smoked out back, never put directly over fire. Low and slow. This is the best pecan smoked BBQ I ever had! The outside of the brisket was black with a sweet, smoky flavor and the inside was tender, flavorful. Outstanding! It's not fancy inside, very basic. Only 5 or so small tables. Most of the people came in to takeout. There is a grocery/butcher connected and has a wide range of meats and jerky. If you are a hunter, they also offer deer meat processing. BONUS: Take a glimpse in the business office! OMG. read more

We love Midway and have been going here for years. Today was an extreme disappointment however, when we got home from picking up dinner to find that Midway didn't give my husband any gravy for his $15 ribeye chicken fried steak. I think that's illegal in Texas? No gravy with the chicken fried? Anyway, the hubs called Midway who offered a free dessert. Or we could go back for the gravy. We live 20 min away. No thanks to going thru traffic again. Then the manager offered a free chopped beef sandwich ("the gravy doesn't cost $8 but I'll give you that for the error"). Thanks Midway. Midway was once a very good BBQ joint when it was still the little shop attached to the grocery store. I remember ordering a chicken sandwich and getting a full size chicken breast stacked on the sandwich. Since Midway has moved to the new location the quality and quantity has greatly depreciated. It's an average BBQ joint--nothing too special. The brisket was OK, the sausage was OK, the beans were OK, and the cole slaw tasted mass-produced, like it was bought at a super store. First time at this location was a few weeks ago. Definitely some of the better BBQ I have had since I moved to TX. Menu was reasonably priced. Their platter option was certainly worth it's price. $13 two meat options with choice of two sides and a drink. Only issue I had with the food was that it was served at a lukewarm temperature. I'm not looking for a piping hot piece of brisket or anything. But I would like my food to have some steam coming off it. Definitely good brisket though. Very noticeable smoke rings in the meat. I went in with around 12-15 people for lunch one day and it was very good. Great meat selection, sides were generally good, some better than others. The food is great. The service... not so much. My family has been getting midway for years. The last 4 times we've ordered, something gets screwed up. For instance, we asked for no bread, so they gave us two extra boxes of bread. We asked for brisket and chicken so we get double chicken no brisket. Don't want jalapeños? They got you! Extra jalapeños no pickles. Employees are visibly stoned out of their minds and can't process simple tasks. I cannot believe it took us long to try this place. My family and I loved this place! We dined here for lunch during our recent stay cation. Both my husband and I had got a bbq baked potato. WOW! What a lunch! It was delicious. My husband liked his potato, but he did note that his potato was a little drier than mine but that he still liked it. We thought the lady working the front was super helpful! Our daughters kids meal took a little bit longer than expected but that's because the corn dog originally came out burned and they were honest and didn't want to serve her that one so they cooked another! Wow, awesome! She loved the mac and cheese that came with her meal, too. We had gotten a banana pudding too and that made this lunch over the top delicious. We cannot wait to come back here. We had an exceptional experience at Midway BBQ. Everyone was super friendly! Everyone! We had BBQ beef baked potatoes... a dish 2 could easily split. I sampled from several of our friends orders as well. Everything was perfect. Amazing food, staff that treated us like old friends, nice environment... couldn't have been happier. I've been running the aisles of the Midway Market since I was little, and its always been a welcoming place. I have one fond memory in particular, my best bud and I were aimlessly roaming the market while his mom shopped. We turned corners without a care where we were going. Suddenly we found ourselves in Herman Meyer's office covered floor to ceiling with amazing taxidermy (much of which is probably at Midway BBQ now). As we were awestruck by the decor a man behind a nice big desk said "can I help you?" We failed to notice anyone was in the room. He was kind and let us take it all in. I ordered a brisket sandwich and added sausage to it. I even kicked it up a notch by adding extra BBQ sauce, onions, pickles and jalapeños! Awesome! Brisket had just the right amount of fat to meat ratio with a crisp smoke flavor. Sausage was good with a small spice to it and moist instead of dried out. The potato salad was great and creamy! Next time I'm trying the cole slaw. Peach cobbler was amazing! I love the doughy goodness and flavor it has! Getting the pecan cobbler next time! Fried corn was bland. It's just ears of corn fried... Doesn't make sense to me. Took one bite and said "nah uh! Why?!". Seriously though, pass on the fried corn despite the hand written sign tempting you on the line that says "Yummy". Giving it all in 4 stars even though the fried corn was "meh". It's new so hopefully it's gone next time I come by. :) read more

Midway has awesome food (highly recommend the chicken, sausage and brisket). The green beans are the BEST I've ever had at a BBQ place and it definitely has some one of a kind ambiance. Their staff is super friendly and always accommodating. I've been to Midway numerous, numerous times and my experience has always been good. Prices are fair for what you get. They also have a huge banquet room in the back of the restaurant available for events and there's no charge for the room as long as they're doing the catering and you will have at least 50 guests. We used their banquet room for my husband's birthday party two years ago and we're using it again this year for my daughter's Sweet 16. As far as events go, their staff is top notch and we never once were low on food during the event. This is now my go to place for any event that I know will be 50 people or more and friends who attended my husband's party have since used it as well. Also, the "more business info" in the sidebar here says that they have no wifi, but they do and it's free (though not secure). read more

Would like to know the history of the hunt, folks in Katy seem mighty proud of their kill. Packed on a Saturday at 1:00, stumbled in here looking for Midway meat market. Not ravenous for b-que, nothing on the menu met the My Fit Foods category. Had baked potato, chopped beef, if I had 3 kids could have fed them all on this one item. Brought half the cherry cobbler home, no salivation but sugar never lets you down. Quality, not quantity, my personal mantra. Great for football teams with endless guts. Staff very nice, asked me if I wanted a shovel with my baked potato. Won't be back, but grateful to try something made in the USA. read more

Brisket was great, good flavor, could've been a little more tender, but that could've just been that particular cut. Pork ribs were delicious as well also not the most tender but passable none the less....salt levels on both were a little high for me. As far as sides we got the fried okra, BBQ beans, slaw, and dirty rice. Dirty rice wasn't good so the friendly cashier got it exchanged for some potato salad, which was the best side. The old man with glasses putting the plates together was unfriendly and dare I say RUDE. But the food and friendly cashier made it all par for the course. Memorial Day Monday I just wanted some BBQ like everyone else. So I went to Rudy's but there was a line out the door. I'm not doing that. Decided to try Midway since it's near my house. Got a sliced beef sandwich and a loaded baked potato with chopped beef. The sliced sandwich was OK. I'm not really convinced the brisket spent much time in a smoker. Maybe an electric smoker or something. Seemed like it was oven baked with a hint of smoke. It was tender, but that's about all. They gave me loads of pickles and onions to go with it, I guess that's a plus. The BBQ sauce was good too I thought, but BBQ sauce is a personal opinion. Now...on the the potato with "chopped beef". The chopped beef is some type of beef mystery mush. It reminded me of what they tried to pass off as BBQ sandwiches at the cafeteria when I was in elementary school or what you would get at a baseball game and they would scoop it with an ice cream scooper and slap it between two buns and call it a BBQ sandwich. I'd almost bet this is some type of pre packaged or canned "chopped beef" they buy from Sysco. Id be shocked if this is made in house. 3 Stars is for super friendly staff and good atmosphere. But they seriously need to find a way to step up their BBQ game. I really want to like this place and want to see them do well. Nice building, good location, great customer service. But the food falls short. At least the chopped beef does. C'mon Midway, I know you're capable of so much better. You have a great building a great staff.
