I called around quite a bit for different quotes. Midnight Pioneer had the best rate, and answered my numerous questions. We had to reschedule due to our closing being pushed back with a holiday. They were super friendly and got us a different date without any issue or "fee". My only complaint is you pay by the hour, and the two guys we had took a few water breaks (obviously no one is a robot) but they also sat down to eat sandwiches and billed us for all that time. All in all I think we paid for 30 minutes of them having a snack break. Other than that I was very pleased. I would recommend. read more

Updating my review to a 2-star because as I unpack I'm realizing I have a LOT of broken items including bookshelves, a dining table which was somehow ripped in half (the top ripped off the base in such a way that it can't be put back together), and stuff from my clearly marked "Fragile" boxes which were put upside down/sideways/squished. They were friendly, fast, and very strong, but maybe TOO fast and TOO strong. These movers would be great if you just have boxed items, but I'm not too sure I'd trust them with anything fragile again. read more

These guys were amazing. Not only were they some of the hardest workers I've ever seen, but these guys were refreshingly polite. The owner was quick to respond to emails, the pricing was the best in town, they were flexible with the typical unforeseen moving issues, AND to top it all off they pulled some tricks with moving that I never would've thought of. Used these guys for a small in-town move today. Robert and Mac were super-friendly and efficient. They showed up on time and loaded my entire apartment into their truck in less than an hour. I felt bad because they were moving me into a third floor apartment but they were very professional and got the job done quickly. I figured it would take four hours but it only took three! Every time I called the office, Rudy was helpful and pleasant. They are cheaper than anywhere else in town and I would absolutely use them again! read more

Initial arrangements very professional and prompt callback. The crew was polite and hardworking. One of them dropped a shelf that broke in half and was very honest and up front about it which was appreciated. He said the owner would likely pay me back for it afterwards when he turned in his paperwork. Now the negatives...my move was scheduled on a Saturday. Partway into the move the lead guy asked how I would paying and informed me they could not run a credit card since it was the weekend. Thankfully I had a checkbook I could find but this should have been made clear BEFORE Saturday so I was more prepared. It was one of the coldest days we've seen this winter in Anchorage and after two loads (moving just over a mile away), they said they'd got all that we talked about moving. I was on crutches recovering from recent surgery so wasn't able to monitor them constantly as i had to sit down a lot. The old house was also very cold with the doors open as they were loading beds. So I went over to new house to make sure the path was clear to bedrooms. They said they'd close it up when done. After the load was brought over and unloaded they were eager to be done. Here were the problems: They didn't move the grill and patio table to the back yard deck or shed...not something I can do in my condition so now taking up space in my garage. I went back over to the old house HOURS later just to see what odds and ends were left...noticed it was still awfully cold in the house. Discovered they'd left the upstairs patio door and a bedroom window OPEN as far as they go!!! On a 12 degree day. I almost put off going back over till the next day...it could have caused frozen pipes, not to mention I will be on the hook for an enormous heating bill. There were other annoyances like leaving their McDonald's trash outside my front door and on top of my mailbox (at the new house) which is an easy fix for most but not when you're on crutches. Nasty lugey in the sink at old house. They were sloppy. One guy was coughing constantly clearly too sick to be working. I wrote to the company giving them an opportunity to make it right and all I got back was an email saying they'd drop off the garage door opener I forgot to get back from them. Bummed this was so bad because the other reviews were so positive and I wanted to support a local business. read more

I booked with this company twice. There was one misunderstanding once regarding wrapping up the furniture but in the end it was just fine. I was happy with the service, the friendliness, that they were not on their phone while working. They took one short break and they even asked if that's ok if they one.. definitely a way better experience that the previous moving company we used. Nothing broken, nothing missing. Man these dudes were fast and efficient. They were all so proper and funny! We moved from Palmer to Anchorage and they made it look easy. It was tough getting all the stuff UPSTAIRS too but they had it all under control! Their truck was huuugggeeee and it didn't even fill it up half way. From 9:30-12 it was only $380!!!!!! They even put my bed together and asked what went where. I really thought hiring movers was for rich people or like $800. 10/10 read more

The owner decided to quit the job and put in someone else half way through the move and didn't tell us. Tara quoted one hour of drive time, she said they only charge for 30 minutes each way. I have the Yelp message for confirmation; however, the owner didn't honor that!!! How awful! I was charged for every single one of their breaks, including their 40 minute lunch on a job that was less than 6 hours. The love could have easily been done with drive time in 4 hours. They prolonged it, switched crews, and then the owner hid behind his phone from afar when it came time to pay. The also charged for the next hour, when they finished 10 minutes into an hour. They were constantly "taking 5" to smoke. However, 5 was more like 10 and I was being charged the entire time. Not cool! I would never use again. Also, they have a complimentary box truck for military. Even though it was stated on the phone, we had to ask them to honor that, as well. Poor communication and poor organization. I was very pleased with this company's response to my booking request. However, the list of things I am displeased with continues to grow. They arrived on move day (I requested 2 movers, full packing AND moving 12 min across town- I have a 2 bedroom apartment, moving into a ranch house) without packing material. I had to wait another hour for them to leave and return with packing materials. They brought a third person (and later charged me additional for the packing materials and the third person which was not in my estimate up front). Now the packing skills. TERRIBLE. They used HUGE boxes, filled them to the brim with heavy stuff (to the point that I later pulled a muscle in my back trying to drag a box across my new living room) and their method was "whatever fits, shove it in". I just opened a box now that they packed- movers put a ROTTING ONION in a basket at the top of a whole box full of spices, kitchenwares and my deceased pets' ASHES!!!! AWFUL. I also found a box full of clothes- shoved in the box was Clorox bleach wipes with a kitchen knife shoved in the box of bleach wipes. Luckily my clothes weren't bleached. I ended up paying over $800 on a 4 hour move-not including tip) on the day of services- later I still had to spend 4 hours packing up more stuff they said wouldn't "fit on the truck". I also had to leave behind an area rug because I had no way to move it. Oh- AND they filled my car with stuff and asked me to drive some over. I had to later ask them to help me unload the car. The area rug was a $300 rug. The stuff that was damaged with rotten onion juices has yet to be determined because I keep VOMITING every time I open the box. read more

These guys get great reviews for their intra-Alaska moves, and I can see why. We used them for a move back to the Lower 48, which is not really what they are known for, but there are a lot of things that they did very well. They wrapped and packed up our furniture so carefully, that it all arrived in the Midwest with nary a scratch. They were on time and followed through on what they said they would do for us. They saved us a lot of money, compared to what we would have paid a big national moving service, like ABF/U-Pack. That said, if you want a moving company that truly understands the logistics of intramodal transportation and if having your stuff arrive on time is the most critical thing, you might want to go with one of the big, national companies. Our stuff was delayed a couple of times, but it did arrive safely and we saved a lot of money compared to what we paid U-Pack when we moved up to ANC. Despite the delays, I do recommend Ruti and his crew, because of the things they do well and the money we saved. read more

This is my family's first time moving to another state without the help of the military. We've had so many medical expenses and finding the right movers was quite daunting. I applied for quotes from many companies until Midnight Pioneer Movers replied to us. First of all, they were always ready to answer any questions you may have either via phone or email. Rudy, the owner, was quite professional. They called me ahead of time to see if we were ready. When they arrived at the house, all of the guys shook my hand. It felt nice to be recognized as an owner in the house not just the wife of the owner. The guys were all so careful with my stuff, my walls, my floors, and my building's walls and floors (I live in a condo). Just like any job, there was one guy goofing off. But Rudy was quick to put him in place. I really like that and appreciate the fact that he doesn't tolerate it. I just called today and was asking if I can drop off my husband's grandma's China that we forgot to have them pack. They're going to check and see if they can be dropped off and shipped with the next shipment. All in all, this company is a family-run business. Hire these guys! I have moved several times but had never used movers before. My husband's work trip was delayed, leaving me to do all the moving by myself. At the suggestion of friends and family, I finally quit stressing about it and hired movers. Initially, I just wanted them to get the large items, but they were willing to move anything they could in the time allowed.
