Service was A1! Don't remember our waitresses name, but this review does not reflect her at all. On the other hand, the food was NASTY! The only thing that was good was the coleslaw (according to my husband because I don't eat it) and my baby's sweet potato fries. I got the spinach oysters for appetizers 1/10 and only because it was hot (fresh). Also, I got the seafood platter and that was a 1/10 again, fresh made to order. Everything we had was very bland. The stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab were both dry stuffing with no flavor. They stuffed shrimp presentation and size of the shrimp was unappealing. After reading several reviews I was skeptical about coming while on vacation but they were the only restaurant open on Father's Day. That being said, the thin fried catfish was amazing! The shrimp, Cole slaw, hush puppies, stuffed mushrooms and alligator bites were just as good I just with the portions of mushrooms, bites and shrimp were a bit more that's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Excellent service, excellent atmosphere and excellent food! Will definitely come back next time I visit! read more

Excellent food and service. First of all the thin, crispy catfish fillets are cooked to perfection. The coleslaw is fresh and delicious. The hush puppies are very flavorful and have a little heat. The service is impeccable and second to none. Austin was our server on a Sunday night and he was awesome. As for the desserts.... The banana bread pudding with rum sauce is over the top delicious and so is the German chocolate cake. Both are served warm and are definitely a must when eating at this establishment. read more

Middendorfs is always a favorite of ours. I don't know why it didn't pop up on our yelp search because it's probably the best Seafood in Slidell I got the small thick catfish platter and I could not eat all of it. It comes with hush puppies French fries and coke slaw. The salad with catfish croutons was great with shrimp hidden in it and new potatoes. My sister got the catfish and shrimp and Mom who eats like a bird got a side of catfish which was perfect. The restaurant is very appealing interior with lots of cypress and artwork. read more

I started with fried green tomatoes.....expensive & only 2 tiny slices of tomato... drenched in some vinegar drizzle and waaaaaaaaasy too much sauce!!...got half oyster/half thin fried catfish.... plenty of food... If you don't like fried food this really is not your place. Restaurant is right down the street from me so try to go local. But, restaurant looks tired inside, needs attention. Prefer a booth, but no booths. No seltzer or hard cider. Beer, wine or cocktail. Thin catfish looks good, large serving but is really just a lot of fried breading. Thick, regular catfish is better. My dad wanted to make the drive and check out the new Middendorf's, so off we went. First of all, the place itself is gorgeous. It's huge with LOTS of space and spread-out tables. I can see how it can probably be a real party atmosphere on a weekend night. I got the large plate of catfish that came with coleslaw and fries. I also started with the onion rings. The onion rings were great. The coleslaw was weird- it was sweet. The catfish itself was okay. First of all, it didn't seem like a "large" order to me and the catfish was good but nothing special. Only reason I gave them one star is because I had to pick between one and five. We tried this place when they first opened and didn't care for it. Figured since they've been open a while we would give it another try. Big mistake Don't waste your time or money. If you are craving some good fried seafood don't go here. The lack of seasoning is crazy. I don't even think they use any salt. It had no flavor whatsoever. They do have seasoning on the table though lol. Worst seafood restaurant I've been to on my trip to New Orleans! We were a party of five and everyone's meal was terrible! The fried oyster were so hard almost impossible to eat. The fried frog legs had so much batter it was hard to find the meat. The barbecue shrimp dinner had 10 shrimp and a watered-down barbecue sauce, terrible!! The crabmeat stuffed whole flounder was not cooked enough. The meat was transparent, and the stuffing should have been called cornbread stuffing!! The turtle soup was the worst I've ever tasted!! The new restaurant is beautiful, and I love the newness of the layout. The food was fresh, hot, but lacked seasoning. The thick cut fish was fried beautifully but it surely could have used salt or just seasoning. The fries lacked crunched but i must say the tarter sauce was tasty. So i drenched everything in that to sub for the lack of flavor. I will visit again just to try the other food so I won't scratch it off my list. Oh yea, it's real catfish and not the fake fish. I have been wanting to go here for a while now, so we decided to go ahead and check it out. Pretty nice look to the place, the greeting as you come in is very welcoming and the servers were extremely nice and took care of us. The staff is awesome. We started out with onion rings and gator bites. The onion rings had a nice crunch and flavor, gator bites were ok. My en-tree was stuffed crab plate and fried shrimp. The fried shrimp were tasty and very crispy. I do not recommend getting the stuffed crab, the stuffing was not good to me, it was more breadcrumbs than crabmeat and it tasted like vinegar (sour taste). They could really use improvement on the overall flavor of their stuffed crab and they need to add crabmeat. The tropical drink was good . Overall, I experienced it and I think that was my first and last time going. It was not terrible, it just was not worth going back. read more

The gumbo was salty without any flavor and made with tiny cocktail shrimp and I couldn't find and sausage in the bowl even the rice was bad. I was so disappointed. Supposedly a Louisiana based restaurant, the Slidell Middendorfs is sadly not good if you've had Louisiana seafood before. Everything is bland, the shrimp is not fresh. The stuffed crab needs a lot more flavor. The gumbo is a sad representation of a Louisiana favorite. I was informed that this restaurant recently hired a chef from Germany. WHY? Why not hire people who've eaten and cooked in this state? We got the broiled seafood platter. The only palatable item was the catfish. And that needed seasoning. This was our second visit to Middendorfs and probably our last. What a waste of space this place is. read more

This day when they charge you to use a credit card, you think they'd be fair with a change when you use cash. Location in Manchac is much better.
