Everything we had was very bland. The stuffed shrimp and stuffed crab were both dry stuffing with no flavor. They stuffed shrimp presentation and size of the shrimp was unappealing. The thin fried catfish was thin fried cornmeal. Even the hushpuppies lacked flavor. Server was friendly, but when you serve iced tea, put enough ice to cool the tea. Biggest pet peeve when ordering tea read more

Foods pretty basic. It's not what you expect when you think Louisiana food. The staff is friendly but this place is over priced.

I took my mom there for lunch once. The oyster soup was pathetic. I haven't been back.

I'm delighted to have one closer to us! We stopped by on our way to Biloxi and it was fantastic. The seafood was phenomenal - very fresh and perfectly cooked. We had the fried shrimp and the gumbo. The service was excellent as well. We'll definitely be back! read more

Gumbo came out cold, the fried shrimp had no seasoning. My wedge salad was very good but wouldn't go back just for that.

Great frog legs, crawfish cake, turtle soup. Seafood platter with broil shrimp was all good. No complaints here. Crazy at the reviews rating this business so low. Sometimes yelpers are just pissy complaining spoiled Americans. read more

Service was A1! Don't remember our waitresses name, but this review does not reflect her at all. On the other hand, the food was NASTY! The only thing that was good was the coleslaw (according to my husband because I don't eat it) and my baby's sweet potato fries. I got the spinach oysters for appetizers 1/10 and only because it was hot (fresh). Also, I got the seafood platter and that was a 1/10 again, fresh made to order. The other things we order were all hot but just nasty. It had no seasoning/flavor. I do not recommend this place at all unless you have high blood pressure and just want fried food read more

This is Feb 2023. Our server Laura was very attentive. The bread is baked fresh, my son and his dad got the fried platters, they were satisfied. I had the broiled stuffed flounder which was fantastic. Come give them a try. Love, Peace & Many Rich Blessings read more

Middendorfs - Slidell - Thin fried catfish, shrimp, coleslaw, fries and hush puppies. - Seafood Near Me - Slidell, Louisiana

After reading several reviews I was skeptical about coming while on vacation but they were the only restaurant open on Father's Day. That being said, the thin fried catfish was amazing! The shrimp, Cole slaw, hush puppies, stuffed mushrooms and alligator bites were just as good I just with the portions of mushrooms, bites and shrimp were a bit more that's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars. Excellent service, excellent atmosphere and excellent food! Will definitely come back next time I visit! read more

The food is always delicious. The service is great. The prices are beyond reasonable add the ambience is comfortable...easy place to hang out add enjoy good food. read more

Went during Oktoberfest. The German food is authentic. You get quite a bit of food for the price. We had to drive a little ways to get here and I don't think I'll do it again. The service was fast. read more

Middendorfs is always a favorite of ours. I don't know why it didn't pop up on our yelp search because it's probably the best Seafood in Slidell I got the small thick catfish platter and I could not eat all of it. It comes with hush puppies French fries and coke slaw. The salad with catfish croutons was great with shrimp hidden in it and new potatoes. My sister got the catfish and shrimp and Mom who eats like a bird got a side of catfish which was perfect. The restaurant is very appealing interior with lots of cypress and artwork. read more

Excellent food and service. First of all the thin, crispy catfish fillets are cooked to perfection. The coleslaw is fresh and delicious. The hush puppies are very flavorful and have a little heat. The service is impeccable and second to none. Austin was our server on a Sunday night and he was awesome. As for the desserts.... The banana bread pudding with rum sauce is over the top delicious and so is the German chocolate cake. Both are served warm and are definitely a must when eating at this establishment. read more

Food is very bland, wouldn't recommend. Service was pretty decent and the crowd was pretty minimal.

First time at the Slidell location. Ordered the mushroom appetizer, strange flavor and visually unappetizing. Seafood platter was our dinner. The fried foods have no flavor, no salt. Stuffed crab had no flavor. Very disappointed. read more

My dad wanted to make the drive and check out the new Middendorf's, so off we went. First of all, the place itself is gorgeous. It's huge with LOTS of space and spread-out tables. I can see how it can probably be a real party atmosphere on a weekend night. I got the large plate of catfish that came with coleslaw and fries. I also started with the onion rings. The onion rings were great. The coleslaw was weird- it was sweet. The catfish itself was okay. First of all, it didn't seem like a "large" order to me and the catfish was good but nothing special. Maybe being from New Orleans I've become picky about my catfish. This hit the spot, but I wasn't blown away. Service was pretty good and I enjoyed my time here. read more

Pros: Decent portions, oversized parking lot, clean environment, friendly staff Cons: Very bland food (do they even know what salt and pepper is?), slow service, very high prices Between the thick catfish, thin catfish, fries, hushpuppies, and coleslaw, I don't think they used any seasoning what so ever. Everything was very bland and under salted. Hushpuppies when cooked properly can pack huge flavor, it was very bland and just cornmeal in inside, no other ingredients. If you want to give this place a try regardless of the reviews like I did, atleast bring a little bag of Cajun seasoning to give your food some flavor! read more

Catfish has no seasoning and undercooked even though very thin.........was order of magnitude better 30-40 years ago......now? Meh......

Only reason I gave them one star is because I had to pick between one and five. We tried this place when they first opened and didn't care for it. Figured since they've been open a while we would give it another try. Big mistake Don't waste your time or money. If you are craving some good fried seafood don't go here. The lack of seasoning is crazy. I don't even think they use any salt. It had no flavor whatsoever. They do have seasoning on the table though lol. If you're on a salt free diet this is the perfect place!! I'm going to post a picture. Don't let the presentation for you. Looked pretty, taste like crap!! read more

Worst seafood restaurant I've been to on my trip to New Orleans! We were a party of five and everyone's meal was terrible! The fried oyster were so hard almost impossible to eat. The fried frog legs had so much batter it was hard to find the meat. The barbecue shrimp dinner had 10 shrimp and a watered-down barbecue sauce, terrible!! The crabmeat stuffed whole flounder was not cooked enough. The meat was transparent, and the stuffing should have been called cornbread stuffing!! The turtle soup was the worst I've ever tasted!! The only thing good was the banana split!! And the cheesecake. read more

Food is bland. Just no. I wish that's all I could say about it, but Yelp makes you write more. Could be a great place. Sort of difficult location to get to, though. Doesn't live up to its original location's reputation. read more

The new restaurant is beautiful, and I love the newness of the layout. The food was fresh, hot, but lacked seasoning. The thick cut fish was fried beautifully but it surely could have used salt or just seasoning. The fries lacked crunched but i must say the tarter sauce was tasty. So i drenched everything in that to sub for the lack of flavor. I will visit again just to try the other food so I won't scratch it off my list. Oh yea, it's real catfish and not the fake fish. The service was great and the staff was extremely friendly! read more

I have been wanting to go here for a while now, so we decided to go ahead and check it out. Pretty nice look to the place, the greeting as you come in is very welcoming and the servers were extremely nice and took care of us. The staff is awesome. We started out with onion rings and gator bites. The onion rings had a nice crunch and flavor, gator bites were ok. My en-tree was stuffed crab plate and fried shrimp. The fried shrimp were tasty and very crispy. I do not recommend getting the stuffed crab, the stuffing was not good to me, it was more breadcrumbs than crabmeat and it tasted like vinegar (sour taste). They could really use improvement on the overall flavor of their stuffed crab and they need to add crabmeat. The tropical drink was good . Overall, I experienced it and I think that was my first and last time going. It was not terrible, it just was not worth going back. read more

If you don't like fried food this really is not your place. Restaurant is right down the street from me so try to go local. But, restaurant looks tired inside, needs attention. Prefer a booth, but no booths. No seltzer or hard cider. Beer, wine or cocktail. Thin catfish looks good, large serving but is really just a lot of fried breading. Thick, regular catfish is better. Other menu items are good but nothing spectacular. The place and menu needs updating. read more

I started with fried green tomatoes.....expensive & only 2 tiny slices of tomato... drenched in some vinegar drizzle and waaaaaaaaasy too much sauce!!...got half oyster/half thin fried catfish.... plenty of food... I just wish Something would have tasted good .... Nothing had Any taste... I drenched oysters in lemon juice and still no flavor...good amount of catfish but again Absolutely tasteless....... I've been wanting to go for a while and now I'm disappointed... but at least I know. read more

Maybe this place was good but the food I had was not so great. The fried shrimp seemed to be farm raised and definitely not fresh from the gulf. The catfish was just ok. The gumbo was salty without any flavor and made with tiny cocktail shrimp and I couldn't find and sausage in the bowl even the rice was bad. I was so disappointed. Even the bread on the table was a tasteless sandwich roll. I hope they get it together. read more

Supposedly a Louisiana based restaurant, the Slidell Middendorfs is sadly not good if you've had Louisiana seafood before. Everything is bland, the shrimp is not fresh. The stuffed crab needs a lot more flavor. The gumbo is a sad representation of a Louisiana favorite. I was informed that this restaurant recently hired a chef from Germany. WHY? Why not hire people who've eaten and cooked in this state? We got the broiled seafood platter. The only palatable item was the catfish. And that needed seasoning. This was our second visit to Middendorfs and probably our last. What a waste of space this place is. read more

Came in on a Sunday at 1:00, we were greeted immediately, it was pretty empty, and everyone was spaced out and staff were wearing masks. The waitress was friendly and took our drink orders, both drinks were great. We placed our orders for thin fried catfish and fried shrimp and oyster platter both came with hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw. I liked the coleslaw it was light and refreshing. The shrimp and oysters were cooked perfectly with good seasoning but the batter was a little heavy. The catfish was super thin and cooked well, it was crunchy but lacked seasoning and was a little bland. The menu was mostly fried items as expected, we did not have room for dessert. We also received bread and butter as we waited. Overall we had a good experience and the food was good, but not amazing and it was perfectly cooked. read more

I went there on Saturday. I got seafood platter to go and a thin fish to go. The people were rude. The fried food was really greasy at the top off the rounded my change in their benefit. This day when they charge you to use a credit card, you think they'd be fair with a change when you use cash. Location in Manchac is much better. I have been going there since the early 1970s and I've never had a bad meal and always good service. read more
