The strong Cuban espresso will definitely caffeinate your world and you might even ask for a second cup to go! I might be a little biased, but it is the BEST cafe con leche that I've ever had on the Northshore. The cafe con tres leches is another good choice as well. You can enjoy and savor every sip of their coffees any time of year! Next, you must try the Havana Sampler (tostones- fried plantains, maduros- fried, caramelized sweet plantains, croquetas, fried yuca) with fried pork chunks. Yes, I know - everything FRIED makes the world go round! We have only one life to live so you might as well enjoy all the yummy foods from this diverse world of ours! Remember to dip everything in the homemade mojo sauce (it has a strong garlic flavor)! The Cuban sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches and is a great lunch option. When I want to splurge, I have to get the special oxtail soup. The oxtail is fall-off-the-bone tender and full of flavor. The chef is very creative and offers special dishes throughout the month. Anytime is a good time for cocktails here! I have enjoyed many of their specialty mojitos - the mango and watermelon were both so refreshing to enjoy on a sunny day. They even have a mojito flight if you can't decide on one flavor. I also enjoyed the caipirinha (Brazilian national cocktail), which surely packs a punch (but in a good way!). I was visiting friends and family in Louisiana and one of our friends recommended this place. Funny story this place used to be my old place of employment years ago when it was Mi Patio. Walking in, very different, felt like they are still kinda renovating the place towards the back by the restrooms. I found it off that half of the dining space was empty, but I believe it's used as a dance floor at night. The staff is very friendly and colorfully dressed. Service overall was ok, they definitely were busy and the two guys were running around trying to get everything done. Our waiter was very nice, we ordered appetizers, coffee and food. But the order everything came out was off. My kids got their kids meals and we got half our appetizers first which I wasn't upset about. Our coffees came out then there was a big gap and we got our entrees before the rest of our appetizers came out. The waiter later told us they accidentally sent ours to another table. No biggie. Portions here are perfect, price point is really good and the presentation is decent. Flavors are very delicious. And the coffee is solid. I got the cortadito and a tres leches iced coffee. The kids meals were hefty but my kiddos didn't care for the bread they used. It wasn't normal sandwich bread and there wasn't enough cheese. We ordered the Havana sampler and a cheese and corn dip. The dip was amazing and the chips served with it were delicious. The sampler was pretty good, definitely found two things I didn't care for. My SIL got the Cuban sandwich and she said it was okay. I got the lechon pork platter and the pork chunk platter. The sauce on the pork chunk platter was amazing I added it to my lechon pork platter. The lechon pork was perfectly cooked and delicious. I wasn't a fan of the pork chunks, too dry for me. The tamal was delicious. Realized I really love lechon pork. We also ordered the flan and the coconut flan. They were both good in their own ways, however the texture of the coconut flan was what we preferred, but the taste of the regular. All in all we enjoyed our food, if you go during rush hour don't be in a rush. Glad Slidell has better restaurants. read more

I was looking for a lunch spot on a Saturday and decided to try Que Rico. We were quickly seated and the server was very attentive. I ordered the Lechon Asado (add a fried egg) and it tasted okay. The other guest had the Palomilla Cuban Steak. The steak was a bit overcooked unfortunately. The serving sizes were pretty large and I had enough to eat later. We shared an order of the Garlic Buttered Cuban Bread. It was a large portion also but didn't really taste that great. My Mojito Mocktail had bad mint leaves in it so that was disappointing. If I'm ever in the area, I'd probably pick up the Lechon Asado to go. I just wouldn't go out of the way to eat there. read more

Took our son in law our daughter friends and wife to celebrate. What great food we had Cuban sandwiches, rice and beans along with fries plantains and assortment of food bowls containing selections of meat fish or vegan the portions served were large. Que Rico Cuban Cafe has been serving the Slidell area for many years! Historically they were located by a coin-operated laundry in Old Downtown. I ate there many times over the years, so I was glad to see they had reopened west of town. They are in a strip mall with lots of parking. The interior space is open and has plenty of seating. The wait staff is prompt and attentive. It's a great place to enjoy Cuban Cuisine! What is good about Cuban Cuisine? Lots of things! One aspect of Cuban food that is great to try are the plantains! These banana-like fruit are both starchy and sweet depending on their state of ripeness. The riper they are the sweeter they are. These are served both ways in the Havana Sampler, along with some yucca frites and ham croquets. This is a great appetizer to try! Moving on to entrees, there are chicken, beef, and stews that are all excellent. These tend to be cooked down to an extremely tender state. Sides often include rice and beans. Cuban Cuisine relies on black beans as their primary legume. These are spicy and great, but not too spicy. Another great Cuban food to try is their sandwiches! One of these that's popular is the Midnight Sandwich. This is reportedly popular for late night meals in Cuba, but is enjoyable at any time! Another great pork-based sandwich is the Cubano! Cuban sandwiches tend to be pressed, and made with great bread that is crispy on the outside but rich and chewy on the inside. Some other Cuban things to try are Cuban coffee and dessert. Good food but the service is terrible. My friend and I waited 1 hour for our food. The waiter delivered the appetizer together with the entree for me and my friend. Throughout this ordeal, the waiter had a terrible attitude like we were bothering him. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant due to the horrible attitude of the server and 1 hour wait for food. The last straw was the server attempting to walk away with the tablet before we completed the tip selection part of paying. I'm sure he was going to tip himself well after the 1 hour wait. That's sneaky, underhanded and wrong. We won't be back. Hard pass on this place. read more

It is in a league of its own and if you don't believe me, PLEASE go see for yourself. I have long been a fan of this amazing family restaurant. When I first discovered it years ago it was in a little strip mall in Olde Towne Slidell next to a sketchy looking Washateria and maybe had 4...or 5...(at the most) parking spots. I don't even know how I first heard about it, but I know had to have been word of mouth because looking at it from the outside I would've never went in there willingly. After that first visit I was hooked and never wanted to go anywhere else. Everything about it was perfect. The music playing, the family serving the food, the amazing food!! Sadly, they lost their lease and moved to New Orleans where they were successful and popular as well, because, of course they were! Slidell felt that loss, I can assure you. I'm happy to say that they are now back home where they belong in Slidell! The new location is amazing because the space is so much larger so they can introduce more people to their food. The only thing that's changed is the space though-they are still the best Cuban food you will find for hundreds of miles around with the same wonderful owners. They actually care about this city and its wellbeing and are passionate about serving them wonderful food. And it shows. You can feel it in every single inch of this restaurant. Amazing. read more

After hearing so many good things about Que Rico I finally got to check it out for myself. The restaurant decor is super cute & I was definitely feeling Havana vibes. Our server (Mary V I believe) was friendly. My husband & I split an order of the chicken croquetas appetizer & lunch special half Cuban sandwich with fried plantains & rice on the side. Everything tasted great. Even the ladies restroom had a night club atmosphere to it with the neon pink floor length mirror. Tried the oxtail - my goodness. Totally out of the world. The Ise of clear frying oil that is not reused to avoid sugar is perfect for making all the fried foods. The flavor just stood out for the plantains, the pork, the meats and the veggies. The coffee was amazing, of course! Viejo and Pollo were both outstandingly done. What I admired in the cuisine was the way the flavor for each ingredient was brought out by the cooking without the need for extra spices. The spice added was always as a side dish and that allowed for the pallete to sample each dish and the combination!!! Mind blowing.
