Family members have told me how good the Middendorf's was, so on a recent trip to the area, we decided to go & boy, are we glad we did. Everything was wonderful, the service was great & the BBQ shrimp was amazing......! We will definitely come back on future visits...... read more

This place is awesome. Shout out to Nikol our server. She's the best. Food was great. Not fond of the hush puppies. They were really dense and greasy. Key lime for dessert. Yum!!! read more

Not as good as the original, but still good enough to stop by on the way home from NOLA. You can't beat the thin catfish! It just seem like the food isn't prepared and cooked as well as Manchac. read more

Restaurant is huge and well laid out. Service was great. Food was below average. I got the seafood platter and there was nothing on it that made me say "yum." They have a good looking menu and I might give them another visit to try something else; but, for a restaurant that claims to be a great seafood place, they look like they have a decent hamburger. The thin fried catfish, their specialty, was thin- too thin. And didn't have a lot of flavor. read more

For a place that looks like it was built for a lot of people, it was a huge disappointment. Prices: Entirely too high for the quality Staff: Our waitress was nice. Service: It wasn't busy but we were early so it felt like they were prepping for the incoming rush. Food: Here's where the 2 stars come in. Gumbo (crab): at first I thought it was homemade and it might of been, but the crab was either old or overcooked. It was one small claw but the meat disintegrated. I got messy without the prize at the end. I also had the platter (seafood) and didn't eat 75% of it. Not a fan of oysters but did try 1 and it had no taste. The paper thing fish? Never heard of this and not a fan. If I order a dish platter I want to at least taste the fish. It was crunchy batter and the same batter as everything else. We also ordered stuffed mushrooms which is my favorite. The stuffing and mushrooms were cold while the almost torched Parmesan cheese on top was warm. We attacked the mushrooms as soon as it arrived. Made me sad. Spouse had the stuffed crab and did not like it. On both our meals the stuffed crab was all filler and No thriller. Despite the bad food experience, I was baffled at the cost for the quality. Way too pricey for what you get. Maybe I'm missing something with the flattened fish or maybe I just don't want to eat a plate of crispy batter, but I didn't get it. Won't be revisiting this place. read more

So did not enjoy the food. It's overrated and the service was horrible. The food was really average. The place was hyped up but didn't present anything special. Not sure if I will return, it definitely didn't make my top 20 restaurants to eat or recommend. read more

We came here after shopping a couple exits away @ Fremeaux for Black Friday. We were exhausted and starving! Driving up, everything seemed to check out. It looks a lot like the original Middendorf's in Manchac, which I have been too several times, just BRAND SPANKIN NEW. I was upset it wasn't on the water, but that isn't a HUGE deal, I'm sure the owners are upset it's not on the water as well! We came in around 11am, and being that it's a shopping holiday I'm surprised they weren't busier. There is plenty of good parking as well. They had their Christmas decorations up, and it was all presh...seriously cute and classic set up! My boyfriend & I ordered the parmesan grilled oyster app & a large order of the thin-fried catfish to split, as I'm on a diet but still couldn't pass up thin-fried catfish! I don't like oysters, so I'll let my boyfriend's response tell the story of these juicy little ocean gifts...."it's a kick in the mouth of flavor". There ya are people, straight from the oyster lovers mouth! He also ate half the loaf of bread they brought out & commented it was pretty tasty. NOW ONTO THE REAL BADBOIS....the thin-fried catfish! These dudes were perfectly salty & delicious. There was a sheet of catfish on the platter that was as big as my big-ol-face. It was delicious & perfectly crispy. Not over fried, not over-breaded....JUUUSSSTTT RIGHT! The hushpuppies that came with the order are delicious as well, loads of green onions! They keep cocktail & tartar on the table, so you don't have to ask and the style of the restaurant is just like that of the old one in Manchac! It's adorably older, natural wood everywhere, with an industrial feel. Do yourself a favor & try out Middendorf's in Slidell, despite the bad reviews! read more

In a word: disappointing. We had been to the Manchac location in the past and enjoyed it. Our experience at the new Slidell restaurant was abysmal. The menu is overpriced and portions were small and poorly prepared. The Shrimp Remoulade appetizer had very undercooked, tiny shrimp- the sauce was tasty, but the shrimp looked practically raw so we didn't even finish it. Shrimp salad as well tasted good, but the shrimp "pieces" were terribly underdone - was afraid to eat it. The thin fried catfish entree was so overcooked, it was more like eating fried cardboard. We hoped this would be a good place to eat in Slidell, but nope. Phil's Marina Cafe beats them in every category. Sorry, Middendorf's - you need to fix those kitchen issues... :( read more

Although there was salt, and pepper, and Tony on the table, the food had nothing in the way of spice, not even salt. Everything was bland tasting. I had fried shrimp(bland) hush puppies (terrible), French fries (bland). Sweet tea was okay. My fiancé had chicken strips (dry and bland and processed looking). Her fries and hush puppies the same. Very disappointing. read more

We got seated right away, a party of 4, and the service and food were fine. We'd return.

The stuffed shrimp was delish! Service was quick. We stopped in for lunch on Sunday. Everything was great. read more

Coming from New Orleans, it's an easy location right off the bridge into Slidell. HUGE location. Great decor. LOVE the murals. Shared the Seafood Platter with my boyfriend. He's not a fan of thin catfish so for the upcharge of $2.75 for the catfish tenderloin. The cost of the seafood platter is $20.00. Total cost of $22.75 for this seafood platter. Everything was good, fried well. The stuffed crab was a little bland. Overall it was okay. I really like that there's cocktail and tarter sauce already on all the tables (as apposed to having to ask for it, or it coming in those wasteful little plastic containers). A loaf of French bread and crackers are brought to the table with waters when you arrive, great to snack on while you decide what to eat. And the wait staff was friendly and helpful. The only reason I slightly gripe is that I do not know if I would drive to Slidell for this experience. Living in New Orleans, of course there are tons of places for a beautiful fried seafood platter but my entire meal I kept thinking of Mandina's Seafood Platter. When my boyfriend and I share that plate, we eat till we're stuffed then still have enough to feed a third person. The platter at Middendorf's fed us, enough, but I felt the need to pick on the French bread on the table after. Basically, hurray for Slidell, but I'll probably stay in the city for my next seafood platter. read more

Words cannot accurately describe how pleased my wife and I were with Middendorf's Slidell. We are from out of town and needed a casual place for a rehearsal dinner for 65. WOW, did Winn and her amazing staff deliver. They made he out of town planning of the event effortless on our part. The service was friendly and fun and they managed our event so that we could concentrate on our guests and enjoy ourselves. The food was delicious and served on time and hot. We highly recommend this place for not only an event but also any meal. Give Winn a shout and she will make you feel like a guest in her own home. Thanks also to Meagan and Alisa for the amazing fun and friendly service. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant ever. It was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. The presentation was so bad you could not tell what your food was!!!! Absolutely No Flavor, No Seasoning, No Appeal!!! Never Again!!! If you do try them Do Not order the Spinach Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms...It was basically canned mushrooms with spinach and cheese melted over the top(and burnt). Oysters were tasteless and the cobb salad looked like dirt was sprinkled over the top and tasteless! Just Sayin read more

The hamburger we got wasn't very well done and was maybe even frozen still. The fries had no seasoning whatsoever and the fish just tasted undone and plain. They said that it would be ready at 8:02 but didn't get it till 20 minutes later. We went for dinner last night and I Must say I expected better quality of food. I ordered broiled catfish which was good but small I also ordered vegetables in Lieu of potatoes and they were awful - Frozen veggies. Didn't even eat them and there was a 2.00 up charge for Them. Told the waitress but they didn't even attempt to make it right. The hush puppies were hard as rocks. Overall very dissatisfied and will not be returning. read more

Terrible service. Watched someone arrive after us. They got their drinks, food, check and takehome boxes before we got our water.

We have found the service to be friendly, informative and the food to match the service... excellent!!! Love dining in with warm typical Southern Friendly Ambience. Went on Sunday at 12:30. Place was extremely busy, but only had a 15 minute wait. Plenty of room outside on the porch and at the bar. Service was exceptional. We had a great, attentive server. Food came out fast and our glasses were never empty. 6 in our party and everyone loved their food. Everything was seasoned perfect. Would definitely eat here again. read more

Have eaten here and at Manchac location before and had great food. Stopped at Slidell location today, our server was wonderful but that was the only thing that was wonderful. Rice in the turtle soup never had rice in my turtle soup before. Had the thin fried catfish platter- there is more fish in fish sticks and tasted of old oil. The crab cake was hard tasteless and mostly bread no crabmeat. The hush puppies were hard tasteless and oily. The fried shrimp were okay but the fried oysters were raw. The French fries aren't worth discussing. The appearance and decor are in keeping with a seafood restaurant theme, but the food falls far short. Wouldn't recommend and it's our last time dining here. read more

Well, we caved in and tried Middendorf's again. How stupid are we? We waited 25 .inutes for gumbo and shrimp while everyone around us was being prompt served. The gumbo tasted like vinegar and the stuffed shrimp tastedike it was overpowered by oregano. Horrible. It should also be noted our server never came to our table to see how our meal was. We then waited another 20 minutes for our check. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! read more

Ok... so if you're like me, you read these reviews and wonder how real the negative comments are. I am here to tell you that the every negative review I have read is absolutely true. It is such a shame that a restaurant that is known for fried seafood, and being in the south, has the audacity to serve food with zero taste and zero flavor. I was in complete dismay that their thin fried catfish was completely tasteless. The nerve really!!! This is not a cheap meal by any means either. I spent almost $50 on two seafood entrées and laughed my way through eating it because I literally could not believe that it could be this bad. My husband and I were in hysterics over how awful it was. If bland and tasteless food is your thing, then get ready for the recipe. Hurry up and make a note of this before Middendorf's removes this from the post because I'm sure they don't want the recipe to get out. Here we go...Find your last Amazon delivery package, remove the top portion of the box and cut it into four pieces, dredge the pieces in egg wash, then dip both sides in plain corn meal. Now this is a very important step... please do not open the spice rack...walk right past it...don't look at the salt, Tony Chachere's or even Ms. Dash. Go directly to your skillet with the cheapest oil possible and fry it for about 20 minutes until your desired crispness. There you have it!!! That is their recipe. The food is so bad, and the negative comments have been so plenty, that I'm almost convinced that Middendorfs wants to somehow get in Yelp's world record of most consistent negative reviews. They are well on their way. Please save your calories, money, travel time and dignity and eat anywhere else. read more

Ok I have been going to Middendorf's for years and i was so excited that the locationn in SlIdell opened but after 3 trips it is just not good. They are frying the food in old oil. AMAZING!!!!!! Special shout outs to Brandon who was kind enough to reach out to me in the parking lot to inform me that our puggle, Max, was welcome inside. Even provided Max his own dog bowl! And to Tina, our server. Personable and extremely customer oriented. And the food- can you say perfection? Best shrimp poppy we ever had and the homemade turtle soup is a must. This place never disappoints!! Thin fried catfish is heavenly! We have been to the original location in Akers for over 50 years, and every time we have been there, the food and service was excellent. We had a group of 8 and ordered so much food to try, but none is good. Not recommend this place

Great excitement to try this legendary restaurant. Extreme disappointment with the food. South Louisiana is known worldwide for its great seasoned food. Apparently Middendorf's forgot to go to Rouses and pick up some seasoning. The fish was like biting into breaded paper and the hush puppies were nothing but grease. Even salt and Tabasco couldn't help. $60 wasted. You have to go north of Alexandria for good catfish or to a local Catholic Church that serves Lenten fish dinners. Goodbye Middendorf's.
