If I could give this zero stars I would. I bought a Groupon after calling and assured everything was included in the price and told to come any time. I came in Friday and turned away. I made an apt Mon ( so 2 mornings off work) and was charged for 2 more things they then claimed were not included. It was just as expensive as going to my dealership or anywhere else aftet their fees. No extra care though that you get ANYWHERE else. No vacuum. No windows. Not even an explanation of what they did. I made an online appointment for an oil change at the Sunnyvale Midas location. When I arrived for my appointment, the guy behind the desk said they don't accept appointments even though the website offers that service. He said I could leave my car with them though and they would get to it three hours later -- and it would be a one-hour oil change. It takes an hour to do an oil change!? When I tried to get more clarity on this, a one-hour oil change miraculously was reduced to 15 minutes. But he still couldn't honor my appointment because he had six other cars ahead of me; he would rather "tick off one customer than tick off six customers." Well, enough said; appointments are not honored, dishonest time estimates in completing the service and being informed that he's okay with ticking me off (huge lack of customer service)...I know where NOT to give my business and hard-earned money. I left the shop very disappointed with the customer service from Midas. I didn't read the other Yelp comments until now...I guess the guy did me a favor by turning me away. I advise you to think twice before going to this Midas location for car service. read more

I don't see any recent reviews so I wanted to share my experience with you all - which was very positive overall. I think some folks here are leaving reviews for another Midas location but this is specifically for the 725 E. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale location. First, keep in mind that Store Manager keeps changing at these auto services shops so past experience do not apply to current - i.e. it's unfair for newer manager to get bad reviews IF he provides better services. In my recent 2 visits to do oil change for my Camry and Lexus, the current manager, Kevin, was VERY courteous and good. Yes, Midas is not top-of-the line in terms of scale and facilities, but how could you complain for Service quality vs. such competitive Price? Here are some specifics: * I found a $19.99 oil change + tire rotation coupon on their website, and called to be pleasantly surprised that they use Synthetic Blend engine oil (50:50). I made an 8am appointment for my Lexus SUV. (they also consider using customer's own engine filter as long as proven genuine car mfg parts w/o additional cost!) They ran a real thorough 25-pt inspection on my car, even including Brakes, struts, battery, lines/hoses, etc. -- I really don't recall other shops (like Firestone, Goodyear, etc.) covering such extensive checklist. * Upon completion of oil change service, they found 5 different problems with my SUV, incl. a very serious Coolant Leak that basically left the tank almost empty (no wonder I was seeing pink leaks in my garage -- previous shops NEVER flagged this leak despite me seeing leaks since early 2014!). Boy am I glad I chose these guys, as IF I drove it a few miles more, my engine may have heated up and stuck! Here's the best part: They normally have to run full Pressure test to figure out where the leak comes from, but Kevin & his technician just let me know that they luckily already saw the leak point and showed it to me (some corroded bottom plate). Kevin then called up Lexus parts to get a replacement plate ordered -- but Lexus never delivered it after 4 hours, so he did a silicone repair (as effective as replacement) at no extra charge! * Another problem was Transmission Oil (pretty dark). My car had 68.2K miles w/o Transmission Fluid exchange, so I just had them do it. Again, to my surprise, they only use Chevron Asian Synthetic fluid (required for Asian cars like Toyota) AND only cost $129.99 but with $15 Off Fluid exchange coupon, it's $115+tax - Unbeatable! * They also reported that I have 20 - 25% life left on my front brakes but my rear brakes were fine. Normally, other shops would not tell you specific pad life remaining but try to scare that your pads must be replaced now -- this gave me confidence that I could trust them... In fact, they recommended I replace it in the next appointment while paying close attention to them. * With all of the above services done, I paid $257 incl. tax out the door. How could one possibly complain, right? Obviously, I took my 2nd car (Camry) in for another oil change with them the very next week. That car also showed transmission oil completely blackened out (I couldn't believe that the previous shop NEVER warned me!), so I had them to the fluid exchange on it too for the same discounted price. Here's the kicker: Kevin was so considerate that he threw in an upgrade to include Transmission Kit (new filter + gasket + conditioner) at no extra charge (~$30 extra value), AND w/o me even asking for it because he felt sorry that I had to wait a few extra hours for Lexus part to turn up at my last appointment! * They do have a small Master technician team of 3(?) so it's best to make an appointment as they're always busy (esp. Sat) and wait time can be really long w/o one... BTW, their technicians are trained & Master licensed guys -- it's always good when managers like Kevin lets customers go into the bay to see and get the problems explained by technicians! (added brownie point) So, I'm happy to have found them as my new auto services shop - I'll be returning to them as long as Kevin and their outstanding services practices are in tact... OK folks, there you have it... YOU be the judge in your next services appointment at this place but I deliberately left a detailed review here for you to get a direct feel for what Kevin's services will be like when you visit them next... WARNING: DO NOT COME HERE!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. They will try to lure you in with the $50 off coupons, but Midas Sunnyvale will try to scam you. My girlfriend needed her breaks replaced. Grinding metal to metal. We dropped off the car and the sales rep, Mike, told us someone would take a look at the car and give us a call in 30 minutes. Thirty minutes later, my girlfriend gets a call from Mike and he says, "we need to replace your break pads, rotors, and calipers. The total cost will be $1280." I get it, break pads and rotors were apparent, but CALIPERS?!?! For what? He didn't give us a legitimate explanation. His explanation, "it's broken." $1280 seemed a bit pricey. I smelled bullshit. We refused to pay a penny. I told my girlfriend to get the car out of Midas, so we could take it to somewhere else. Mike tried to tell her that he couldn't release the car and it needed to be towed, since there was so much damage to the breaks. He said it was too dangerous to drive. It just seemed like more bullshit to try to keep the car in the shop. We told him to put the breaks on and we will take the risk. I later find out that Midas mechanics work close to minimum wage and make most of their money from commission. That explains why they tried to charge for the calipers even though it did not need to be replaced. The mechanics would have pocketed and walk away with at least $400. I also heard they get a cut from any towing expense, which is why they also offered to tow my girlfriends car. This is information I learned from a former Midas worker. Eventually, Mike agreed to putting the breaks back on. We came back to the shop, my girlfriend signed some papers, and on the way out, he didn't say be careful; instead, Mike had the nerve to tell us, "I'll be surprised if you don't get into an accident." That's an asshole thing to say to any customer. We ended up taking our car to my Uncle's mechanic in Milpitas. He took a look at the breaks, called us back 30 minutes later, and told us that nothing was wrong with the calipers. Midas was trying to double dip us. He only needed to replace the break pads and rotors. Total cost was $495. That was a huge difference from what Midas was trying to charge. Breaks work fine now. My take on the experience, Sunnyvale Midas is a greedy business. The sales rep Mike will try to get over on you. First, he tried to charge $1280 for a $495 job, then offers to tow the vehicle, and implies that we will get into and accident. Believe me. I'm safe now and Yelping. I am surprised none of the managers have not found out or done anything about the scams that are occurring in this establishment. Take it from someone who, if not they known any better, almost got scammed for a $1280 job. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF. read more

If I could give an empty star I would. We were visiting the area and had the turbocharger fail on our diesel van due to a cracked resonator. Worst experience ever I could expect. First we got our car break pad replaced as we were getting squeaky noise. After we got break pad replaced, the squeaky noise worsened. We went back to get it fixed. First the manager made an excuse that looks like you got touch paint job done which may be leading to skewky noice but later he took the car to fix. What happened next was worst......I had portable GPS in the car ...it went missing...It is too hard to point the finger as I had not made a point before giving the car that I had my GPS in the car. I had a great experience here! The store manager I dealt with was: Kevin O'Daniel. I went in thinking my breaks needed some work, and was expecting them to be replaced because it had been awhile. After brining in my car early, they got me in same day ! Hooray. Then I got a call that my brakes were fine! No need to pay tons of money to replace them, just a minor cabin air filter, which i knew needed some serious changing (I had done a bad job) :* Instead of it costing hundreds of dollars, i only paid $25.. These guys could have been dishonest - I was a little clueless, but they are reputable! Kevin was friendly, and helpful and a great person to deal with! I went to this place despite the scathing reviews on here. I used the19.99 coupon available on their website for changing the oil and rotating the tires. I called ahead before going, then went during my lunch break and got back to work in roughly an hour. The service was fast and friendly. Don or Dan was very nice, recommended or asked if I had changed out some standard wear and tear items that are replaced regularly. I feel like some people that previously reviewed on here were surprised when a mechanic shop asks about or suggests a repair item. If you don't want it, don't take it, but pay attention; driving around with old belts or worn out brakes isn't the smartest idea. I was going to give 4 starts, but then remembered they were nice enough to drive a woman back to her house while they conducted the repairs.... although to be fair I think the struts + other replacements she accepted were about $1400. read more

This Midas... first of all... it's under NEW OWNERSHIP! They took over three weeks ago and the difference in the quality and care of the service shows! Secondly about the service... The service Manager Andrew came out to meet us to check us in for our 10:30 appointment even though we were a few minutes late. He was VERY friendly and courteous which seems to contradict everything we had read previously on yelp. He came out started the process of checking in our car and asked good open-ended questions to get to the bottom of our reason for stopping in which I greatly appreciated because most of the places we have been have never done that. Thirdly, the new owner and his wife greeted us and offered us coffee, snacks, and free wifi for us to use while they serviced our vehicle. The owner and staff kept us abreast of the status of our service and repairs and offered us ALL available options for our repairs. They also informed us about services that our dealership suggested we have done but in reality we didn't need and that saved us a considerable amount of extra $$$. They took the time to explain to us every repair and the reason it was needed as well as showed us directly what needed to be fixed and why on the vehicle itself. Fourthly, they found the issue with our brakes and explained to us the issue; which turns out to be a problem caused by the service technicians at the dealership (but I'll be dealing with them separately.) They fixed the problem and gave us the parts they replaced so that I can address this issue with the dealership. They were expeditious in repairing the problem and courteous the whole time.!!! I would DEFINITELY refer anyone and everyone to them. I'm a stickler for good service and the service we received here was top-notch! read more

Took my car in because of some noises with the brakes. They told me the back brakes needs to be changed right away and its dangerous driving the car and they quoted me $500. I called our regular mechanic and he said it should cosy no more than $ 250! It was too late as they had started working on on it and they wanted to charge us to put it back together, so they agreed to get $350. Ya dont go there, you will be sorry. I do regular oil check up over here. I would say the oil checkup over is fine with $19.99. But if you go for the car inspection they will give you a high price quote. For my car they said the car steering is loose and would have to pay $800 for repairs. They told me service needs to be done within 2-3 weeks. For my car I go to my trusted mechanic for high priced bill. My mechanic suggested my car should be fine for 2 years which means midas lied about it. read more

This is my favorite place to have anyone do anything to my vehicle. First of all,Josefina,Alex &Carlos all consistently ensure that their prices are absolutely the best anywhere- yes,I have shopped around,but they beat everyone else. Also, I appreciate that they are busy,this means that they are good! I have never had any difficulty in making an appointment here. I always tell them to take their time because good work cannot be rushed. They have always had my vehicle completed quickly. I have been here several times in the past few months,every single time I feel they have gone out of their way to give me exceptional service and price. My car has about 180k miles on it,I know when work has been done well or not. These people all deliver. They have never tried to upsell me as Jiffy Lube used to do,and they have never hurt my car,like Pep Boys had. They are all very helpful,honest,caring people. Okay, this is a pre-rating. After reading all these comments, I ask myself WHY didn't I check this before. Like others, I had taken my cars to this location before for brakes without incident. Something has changed indeed. I took my car in and they replaced belt, tires, and brakes, and axle- boots. God only knows what they've done because the brakes are now groaning and I thought I smelled hot wax by the end of driving around the first day. Thanks for the heads-up folks!! I will take it to the dealer to check the damage and then present Midas Snyl with an ultimatum to either fix it or see me in court. By the way, everyone who has problems here should go to the Better Business Bureau and officially report them. If there are enough 'dings' on their record, it will and does get California state attention. I am wondering if they are changing out parts or doing anything else illegal now that I've seen all these reports. I'm trying not to freak out. Ok, off to the dealer I go. I received honest and professional service from this Midas shop. They replaced my Dodge Grand Caravan catalytic converter and entire exhaust system back to the tail pipe. They have a very experienced welder (Chuck) and he did a great job. Clean welds, pipes routed nice and straight with clean bends. I saved a ton of money compared to replacing with a stock exhaust system. They stood by their original quote even though it ended up taking more time than anticipated. Since it took more than the 1 day they committed to they paid for a rental car. And when I brought it back for a back for a minor adjustment they honored their guarantee no questions asked. Got a coupon for $19.99 oil change and tire rotation. Emailed and set an appointment for the next day and got a call a few hours later for a later time in the day. Got there and was offered the high mileage oil change for $15 more and said no. He then said that they would look at the tires and see if they needed rotating. When I said the tires were more than 5 years old and needed to be rotated, he told me they were too old and they won't touch them. My daughter went there several months before for an oil change and tire rotation and they wrote up 4 problems. They stated an oil leak on the engine rear seal, the brakes needed to be done now, etc. I took the vehicle 6 weeks later for regular maintenance. The oil leak was from the valve cover and not that bad, the brake pads were 65% front and 35% rear, and no maintenance was required other than the periodic maintenance that it was in for. Don't waste your time. These guys should be out of business. read more

Louis did an excellent job on my car and gave me wonderful customer service. They replaced the front brake pads + rotor and finally fixed my headlamp for free (2 or 3 other places tried to and couldn't). They took my in at 10:15 am and got it out before 2 pm (on a Saturday!!)! They gave me a price far below the quote I got at another Midas in Connecticut. Go on your own risk. I went for a regular oil change in my car over there after having an appointment. Even after an appointment it took them 2 hours to do oil change. I was surprised what's taking them so long. Now I know what's the reason why they took 2 hours for oil change, actually instead of changing just oil, they were changing my tires, replacing my new tires with some old tires, which I noticed as I bought all the tires from Good Year but now all of them are not. I will never recommend anybody to even look at this store. This store will steal your tires and important parts of your car on services name. read more

I should have read the reviews here before getting a Groupon. Even with the Groupon I felt ripped off. I have a 2010 car and have been getting my oil changed over the years. Not my first time at the rodeo and I have never needed to buy a "special filter". They insisted I needed a special filter that cost extra and were not going to change my oil if I didn't buy the filter. So at the expense of loosing my money I bought the filter. Like I said have never been told I needed a special filter or had to ever pay extra for a special filter. They get you in and then rip you off. read more

I scheduled an 11am appointment with these guys to replace my front brake rotors and pads because of an awful shrieking noise. On the phone, the receptionist told me if all 4 pads and rotors needed to be replaced , then the turn around time would take at most an hour and a half. Since I was only getting the front ones replaced, I figured the turn around time would be much quicker. I got there at 11am on the dot, and they didn't start servicing my car until 1145am. Keep in mind, my appointment was at 11am and the shop had vacant spots, especially on the lift. The total time it took to do my front brake rotors/pads took over 2 and a half hours, almost 3. I'm beyond pissed because I had other obligations to attend to, it's more than annoying, pure garbage. The service is okay, thorough detail needs to be improved. They even quoted me $250 on the phone, I ended up paying double the price. Sometimes it feels like they lure customers into replacing things that don't need to replaced until a much later time. In my opinion, know your car, know the base costs, and be well informed about your car's problem. I should have just went to Precise Auto Care instead where my family has a trusted mechanic that has been servicing our vehicles for over 20 years; the costs would have been probably less and ther service would have been more concise and on the dot. read more

I went in with the $19.99 oil change and tire rotation. Because we use synthetic oil they charged extra as expected, but it was $40 more than the dealer charged at the previous oil change. They recommended that the air filters get changed. The air filters had both been changed at the previous service so I would be surprised if they even looked. They also said the front struts were leaking and it would be $800 just for the parts. I checked online and could get high quality sports struts from the TireRack for $200 each. I took the car to another shop that I trust to have a look. They were very surprised they would be leaking at such low mileage. When they looked, they were completely dry, no leak at all. read more

I ran over a pipe on the freeway and it ripped something on the undercarriage that left me completely freaked out--took it to these guys and they lifted it up and showed me the piece that had busted and let me know that it was something I would want to get replaced but wasn't an immediate concern. They gave me the piece to use for reference when ordering a new one and sent me on my way. They didn't charge me a dime and told me they'd install it if I wanted, and that they could also order on my behalf as well. Great guys, very reasonable and personable. I recently stopped by for an oil change. I had a coupon for a basic oil change and they recommended high mileage oil change (my car has 190k miles on it) although he still applied the discount which cost me only $10 higher. They also inspected my car for wipers, front brakes and fluids and gave me a reasonable price quote for the brake job since mine were almost towards the end of life. They also have some discounts available on and off which you can avail. Also, this Midas provides a free tire rotation with any oil change. Since my rear tires had more tread they recommended not to rotate them as a safety measure; but upon my request to rotate them (on account of front tires showing minor cracks) they obliged. I would definitely recommend this place for all future oil changes and regular maintenance work on your car. Technicians seem knowledgable and the service is good and they get the work done in a timely manner. (compared to other places that leave you waiting & prolong the service time). I would like to begin my review by first informing everyone this Midas is UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. I had to replace the front brakes to my Mercedes CLS550 this past weekend. I requested an appointment via their web site and I very promptly received a telephone call from Andrew. I scheduled my appointment for early Saturday morning at 8:00 AM as I was driving down from Redwood City. Andrew is a very personable and very knowledgeable person. He provided me with all the options available with no pressure selling techniques. I really appreciated his honesty. I am not too keen on these types of techniques used at many auto service places. I had been taking my car to the Mercedes Benz dealership as I had a warranty. My warranty expired in January. Yes, we are all aware of their "selling" and auto service "techniques". Of course, once the warranty is no longer available, it is when one needs parts replaced on their vehicle. Long story short, I am VERY HAPPY with the results and they have definitely gained themselves a new customer! This is why I am happy to have found this hidden treasure. Ram is the new owner of the place and he and his family made us feel very comfortable. I am sure, as all companies, they will go through some growing pains and this is completely normal. I am very happy to have found this place. I highly recommend THIS Midas to single ladies and seniors because I know they WILL NOT be taken advantage of. I went to Midas Sunnyvale for my Toyota Sienna brake and rotor service. We got ceramic brake pads with life time warranty. The brakes had issues and created vibrations, which I have to get it fixed in just one week. Anyway, now after 3 years, I needed new brakes and I called Midas Sunnyvale to cover new brake pads under Midas life-time policy, and they said they don't have a record that I got the work done by them. Manager was super rude and treated me like an idiot. He was only able to see oil changes on my record. Finally, I called their head office and the lady was very nice and found out that Midas sunnyvale mentioned brake changes for chevy cavalier (which I never owned). I will continue to use Midas but I will not recommend this Midas service center. read more
