As others have mentioned, if I could give them a 0 star rating I would. I wasn't even able to get my car serviced at this location, because after THREE attempts on giving them our business my husband gave up. This review is purely based on their customer service (or lack thereof). He was told 3 times in a row they were closing in an hour and couldn't take another car in. After the owner told him to come back the next day, around the same time (which was the only time he could come in due to our work schedules) which he did twice, he was told he couldnt service our car again, and was laughed at by the owner. I guess we should've learned our lesson the first time. Take your car and money elsewhere. read more

I had a great experience here last month- this Midas is under brand new ownership and management, so the past reviews are not relevant. I received amazing customer service from the manager Andrew. I needed work done on my brake pads, and I actually had called around to see how much it would cost. After calling 3 places, I came to Midas because of Andrews helpful answers, willingness to let me come in same day, and voluntary information about coupons online. The service was expensive everywhere I called, but I appreciated Andrew giving me the breakdown of my options and his expert recommendations. In person, Andrew was just as helpful and friendly. They new owner Ram Iyer is also very friendly and seems very customer-service focused, which I appreciate. I will definitely come back to this location for my auto services again. read more

My brought my car in before reading the reviews here. If I read these reviews, I will definitely won't go there. Luckily, I did not read reviews that save me a almost $200. My car has rough idle (When stopped for a light, the car shakes). I brought my car to a personal auto service, the technician there told me " you have to change an ignition coil", which will cost me almost $200. I left there and looked for a second opinion. When I drove by the Midas, I decided to go into the office. Andrew is the manager there, who is really a nice and diligent guy. Actually, even through I went into the service, I only wanted to ask some questions. But Andrew did his best to keep me be a customer for him. After almost 20 mins checking the car, he told me the problem was fixed. He told me it was a connection issue not the problem of the ignition coil. He charged me nothing for the service. Five starts for Andrew's polite service and the honest work. Two days later, the problems came back again. Bring my car to another auto repair center. They told me the same thing as the first technician told me. I think the reasons they let me go is that 1. they do not have enough skills to fix the problem. 2. there is anther customer came in when they checked my car. The customer was from LA and his car has a big problem ( cost $$$$). They have more interests to make money from them. I am so sorry for anyone who has read my first review. read more

I went to Midas Sunnyvale last week with my BMW 528i because I needed an oil change. I was greeted pleasantly by the owner of the shop who also checked me in. While doing the free courtesy check after changing the oil, they found out that my brake fluid was dirty and needed to be changed. I expressed concern over the time it would take since I had to get back to work after my lunch break. They were nice enough to offer me a ride back to work and also pick me up from work after my car was fixed. With this kind of great service, I'm definitely making this my go-to auto shop. Replaced rear brake pad and rotor disc for VW. They quoted $120 cheaper than Sunnyvale VW. They upgraded performance rotor for the cost (as they said). Work was on time. Everything was expected good job until receive the car. After I drove less than one mile, while I parked the car, I slipped the brake. They just installed the parts as is. Better to sand down to remove the surface coating. I also requested to keep all old parts. They did but gave me wrong one. Rotor discs were original one, but brake pads are mixed 3 different model from other cars. I did not check until I get home. Better to verify the work at the site always. read more

Whenever anyone asks for a referral for oil change, tires or ANY car repair, I wholeheartedly recommend Midas of Sunnyvale. I discovered Midas a few years back was very impressed with their efficiency and professionalism. They diagnosed my issues and never tried to talk me into unnecessary work. It was also nice to finally get the car taken care of without spending a small fortune! I owned my BMW for 25 years -- loved the old boxy style but felt it was time for a real cup holder and airbags! Truth be known, it likely would have run for another 10 thanks to the care it was given at Midas. I purchased a new car recently so I now have all kinds of warranties. When they expire, I have every intention to once again become a faithful Midas customer. I have been to this Midas a couple of times. The first one was for an oil change and I had a great experience. With the oil change they rotated the tires, checked the tire pressure, checked on all the fluids, and filled up the windshield fluid. When they did the courtesy check on the vehicle (it is a mini van) they pointed out that my back breaks needed some work and even took me in to show me. Even I could tell it was true! We arranged a time to come back in and it was very convenient as one of the guys drove me to work and then picked me up later when the car was done. Based on other places I've been over the years, the pricing was fair and the service was great. I did not feel like they were trying to "up sell" me. I am about to need another oil change and will be calling to make an appointment! read more

Under new management, as of very recently! I hope new management reads this. One star for being very friendly. Hey, the new management had no problem with me bringing my own oil and filter, unlike the previous management which had to be cajoled into it. Here's where all the other stars are lost: - An oil change does not take 45+ minutes. - Free inspection? Fine. I asked for, and they confirmed, that it would be a visual-only inspection: nothing touched. Lo and behold, things were touched. An under-inflated front tire, and the stem cap missing. I never had a missing cap in 50k miles but now it's missing, so I have to order a new set. (Nice caps, too; metal, not plastic. Thankfully a dollar online...) - Speaking of which, don't tell me those tires are supposed to be 35 PSI when it clearly says on the car doors that they should be 32. - Don't try to recommend 5W-30 when it is printed, very clearly and in large yellow letters on the oil cap where you pour oil, to only use 10W-30. I understand that 5W-30 can be substituted in many cases but in older cars, those cases tend to be sub-60F temperatures; sub-60F is not a thing in summer Sunnyvale. - If something is wrong, tell me, great. If something is just showing signs of age, and can easily be driven for another 10k miles, don't tell me to replace it. - Speaking of replacements, don't tell me a half-hour job is $195 in labor. $195 buys me all the tools to do it myself in an hour, or I can get it done elsewhere for $70. - Don't try to sell non-OEM parts for OEM prices. I can google just as well as you; I can also call Napa and ask them what they charge for parts. - If you're selling high-mileage synthetic oil, why are you still using the cheapest filter possible? Spend an extra $3 and get a performance filter. The $20 oil change (by the way, it used to be $15) is worth it if you thoroughly check everything they touched. The best general auto shop I have dealt with in the bay. I now live in Campbell and work in the east bay but I will still be visiting this shop for my automotive needs. The new owners, Ram and Neha, are very personable and friendly with me even when I come in last minute and ask them to run across town to pick up parts. The techs at this shop are all great guys with with good work ethic and integrity. Always quoted for less than other shops and handled quickly and professionally. Great people and service! NO stars would be appropriate. Total complete rip off. Like the other listed here.. wish I would have read them first! I took my car in for brakes..... 3 times.. My brakes were schreeching. They replaced front and back along with some minor parts. He said I needed new rotors.. which I didn't believe so I said no. Brakes still schreeching. I went back and he says, "well we told you you needed new rotors" ... hmm.. my gut telling me otherwise I said fine... Brakes...still schreeching... I take it back. Well not sure what the problem is, maybe it's not sitting right against the rotor.. checked..adjusted. Brakes still schreeching.... "well maybe the top layer needs to be worn in.. speed up then brake real hard.. " WTF???? So I take it to a friend who used to be a mechanic.... he tells me... You need new brakes.. this was 7 months since I had them changed. He also says, "hey those rotors are stock from Chevy" .. I don't think they changed them at all. The front brakes need changing as well. I will not be doing it at Midas. The manager is slimy and cheesy and apparently a crook. Please spread the word.. I was about to write this with a certain inner guilt because Daniel at Midas seemed extremely genuine in his efforts to somehow overcome the absolute assenine behavior and utter lack of concern for customer satisfaction exhibited by his district manager in San Mateo, "Jason", yet when I signed up for Yelp this morning for the sole purpose of offering this constructive critique I noticed Immediately this type of review is not exactly a new experience for this Midas location, undoubtedly it is due to the misdirections of the San Mateo manager's poor ability, lack of intelligence, or perhaps quite simply disregard and arrogance. I had a muffler installed on my Jeep last year. 9 months later the upstream weld to the exhaust pipe completely broke free so I took it in and they rewelded it promptly. Sometime between those two visits I was told I also came in for a misfiring issue in which case I had to have a coil replaced in the ignition system. Last week on the road I noticed the 2006 Cherokee's exhaust sounding louder than normal and planned to take it in to Midas as soon as i got home, as I always have used this shop excusively over several years now with all 4 of my vehicles for any service requirements they may have. By the time I got home, even though the engine was running smooth, the exhaust sound was as if the weld broke again. Midas put it up on the rack and the muffler was split open with a massive hole right in the middle of the main body, obviously created from a corrosion from within it's core somehow. It was explained the corp policy is free replacement less labor for install. Which would seem fair had the muffler been 10+ years old, but it wasn't, was it Jason? I did a little research, talked to a couple experts in the field and was immediately made aware that a crack or ustream leak allows cold air to be introduced into the hot muffler at certain times therefore would obviously accelerate corrosion leading to failure. Pretty straight forward stuff here. Their weld wasn't good to begin with, cracked, leaked for appx 9 months until the entire weld broke such that I could notice it. When they rewelded it the damage was already done, just a few more months and alas the corrossion had weakened the integrity of the muffler's structure to split open. I argued this point and requested they cover the labor. Daniel took this to the manager (Jason) who said no, so I called him myself and explained my point. To his credit he explained the ignition coil issue probably caused backfiring which could have also damaged the muffler. Apparently a brand new muffler can be destroyed by this according to Jason, pending backfiring was occurring. Well that's nice to know but your weld was broke Ace. There is no question about this is there? There is also no question I have no issue paying a dollar, a hundred or even a thousand for work I am responsible for, but the hundred he wanted to replace the muffler didn't seem fair. I let him know clearly this would be the last hundred Midas Corp ever receives from means that our LTR would end with this muffler replacement. Jason basically said have a nice day and thanks for your money, not even willing to meet me half way when I explained this was his last chance to save our relationship. I later learned the misfiring issue supposedly requiring a coil replacement costing even more money was most likely caused by the leaking weld. Am I going to explain this to meat head? For what, a hundred bucks? I would have ended the relationship if the labor was only a dollar, but reconsidered had he only charged me fifty cents in meeting me half way. It's the principle of the matter. Do not waste your time at this shop. The most honest and dedicated mechanic and service person I know is a guy named Spark that operates the shop at the corner of Old San Francisco and Fair Oaks. He charged me $200 for what Midas wanted to charge me over $500 for already this past year on another issue. read more

My experience here was great! I had a Groupon and was able to book my appointment through their website hassle-free. I showed up at the appointment and they took my car right in for the oil change. They didn't try to up-sell me or anything and they took around 1.5 hours for my synthetic oil change and 45 point inspection. I'd highly recommend it here! I purchased an $ 44 Groupon for a full synthetic oil change Plus 45 point inspection. When I called for a walk in appointment I was told that they could work on my car if I could make it there in 30 minutes. I told them that I was only 10 minutes away but then asked me if I had a coupon. When I said that I had a Groupon I was told to come in two days. When I got there all the staff were speaking Spanish other than when addressing me and it was in uncomfortable since you don't know if they're talking about you. I was told to wait for an hour which seemed like a long time and they suggested that I could leave and they would call me. Less than 30 minutes later I got a voicemail saying that they had found a nail on the edge of my rear tire and whether I wanted it repaired. I didn't call back since I hate when car shops call me to say they found something else wrong other than what I took my car for . I asked them if they had rotated the tires and they said that they couldn't do it since you can't put a tire with a nail at the front and that they couldn't repair it since it was near the edge- why did they suggest the repair in the voicemail? That I could risk to pull out the nail and see if it was okay and that maybe it could get deflated and I would need to buy another tires even though the tire is in really good condition! I decided to let the nail stay and have it evaluated at another place . I couldn't believe when I looked them up on Yelp and found at least two similar nail incidents. It also happens that they had booked me at 4:30 PM which is near their closing time- it appears that they didn't want to put on the work of rotating the tires. They also gave me the car and let me leave without the receipt. I had to come back after driving a few stops. The whole experience was unpleasant at best. It looks like they don't like coupons and they need to polish on being professional. I have seen your pathetic and rather ignorant and arrogant reply. I'm come from Africa and speak three languages. That doesn't mean that I speak my mother tongue at work. It is very clear that your staff can speak English! The impression one gets about a person or a business is very important in creating an environment of trust. read more

Had great service, received a rental car for the time my car was being repaired so I could make it to work, free of charge! Replaced my radiator, fan clutch and water pump totaling about $1200 worth of work. Had my transmission fluid leak all the way out 3 days later leaving me stuck on the side of the road. After having my truck towed to the Midas they fixed the minor problem ( a fitting ) and free of charge and sent me on my way. Both Don and Juan were very helpful, knowledgable and understanding of my situation. I had my 2 year old son with me who was crying most of the time I was at the shop and they were very nice to us. I will gladly return here for any future problems which I hope I wont' have for a long time! read more

Well, I guess YMMV. The a weld on the exhaust pipe failed on one of our cars, and there are few options on a Saturday to get it fixed. So we went to Midas. They fixed the problem for the quoted amount and didn't play any funny games. Based on a visual inspection the fix looks fine, and the car is quiet again. read more

AVOID. Terrible. Had my brakes looked at. They peeled out of the parking lot with my car onto the highway during the test drive (they claim it's necessary- doubtful). They came back with an estimate of ~ $950 claiming my brakes & rotor were completely destroyed. I asked them to explain the issues to me but the guy gave me dodgy and vague answers. I got a bad vibe from him and earlier I saw them try to scam the person ahead of me, claiming she needed new filters, she fought them on it saying she had replaced them just last month. Didn't feel comfortable with them, so went to get a different estimate from another mechanic. Took my breaks apart and looked at them with me, they were in perfect shape and have another 20,000-30,000 miles left on them. Rotors are in even better shape, perfect actually. Glad I went with my instincts because they were happy to take almost 1k from me with no actual problems with my car. read more

First time there for a tire rotation and balancing of some old tires. They did a fairly good free simple inspection of the car (liquids, battery, struts, lights, bulbs) before the tire work. They acted nice (maybe because I was new there ?! or not). Total price was $ 47.75 (quite competitive with others) and I guess they did it right since I see no vibration at 90 mph. They suggested future replacement of all struts for $ 1200 (lifetime warranty) - which I find it kind of expensive considering the good struts are ~ $ 80 each on the web. read more

Calling this Midas shop "inept" would be far too generous. Perhaps "crooked" is a better term. I call ahead to ask if they have the replacement muffler in stock for my 1988 Toyota Camry. Midas never answers such a question...please come in for an inspection. Since the odds are against their having that part in stock, I am virtually guaranteed of having to make two trips there. I schedule the inspection appointment (higher priority than a "walk-in") and arrive a few minutes early. Now, my warranty covers a free replacement muffler & free labor/parts. The 1st Midas muffler went on in 1993, at 57,000 miles. Now (September 2009) it has 157,000 miles and this will be the fifth muffler replacement. Well, there is no inspection (the car never leaves the spot where I parked it), BUT I do get an estimate...$118 for the labor and the "free" muffler. The desk clerk has my warranty in hand, but that seems irrelevant. I tell him "no," and depart. Next, I visited the Midas Muffler in Palo Alto (El Camino Real & Arastradero). Great story..see that review. One tip: If you have any problem at a Midas shop, go online to www.http://www.midas.ca/ and send them an E-mail via "How Did We Do" on the bottom left. Better tip: Avoid Midas for the rest of this lifetime. read more

I paid for an oil change plus tire rotation at the Midas store above. I had a coupon for money off, made an appointment and showed up on time. They were busy so they couldnt get to me for almost an hour - so much for making an appointment. My car was finished within 1.5 hours and then I left the store and went to Kohls. When I came out again I noticed my tires and that they hadn't been rotated (again something I had already paid for). I called the store and the employee said something like 'yeah we must have forgotten to tell you...we didn't change your front tires because they were more worn than the back tires and if the back tire were to pop you might lose control of the vehicle easier'. I have front wheel drive which is why I needed the tire rotation so I would have more tread up front - so that is just a blatant lie. He said you can bring your car back if you really want us to rotate the tires - so I did. Needless to say they didn't do a good job and now I have to shell out additional money for a tire balance. read more

I made an appointment for oil change two weeks ago. I provided all info about my car to the business and told them that I am using a groupon. They said nothing about extra fees. When I went to have the oil change today, they said I have to paid $35/quart for the oil change. They said they state in the fine print that the groupon is only for 5 quart. Before I can ask for more explanation. The manger ran out from the room and said very rudely: You either paid for the extra or leave and ask groupon for your money. Don't waste our time here. This is literally the worst auto experience I had. They are really dishonest. They should have informed me about the extra fees. Second, the pricing is ridiculous, 5 quart for $35 and they ask for 35 per quart at the shop. I really doubt that they will ever say anything true about the problems of your car. All they want is to get as much money from you as possible. read more

My brakes had been making a slight squeaking noise, so my bf and I had first decided to go get the brakes checked out at a nearby Firestone in Sunnyvale. Sunnyvale informed us that it would $25 for a brake inspection, and if we then decided to get our breaks done there at Firestone they would "waive" the fee. After I asked for an estimate on brake pads, Firestone was very expensive and we decided to leave. Drove to the nearby Midas(although being very reluctant because of the previous yelp reviews decided to give it a shot) and they told us they would give us a free brake inspection. Everyone at the Midas was extremely friendly and personable, great customer service! After checking our brakes it turned out that I didn't need new brakes at all. The mechanics took us to our car and physically showed us that I still had quite a bit of pad left on my brakes, and that at this time it was not needed. They were very honest and even offered to clean up my breaks and lube some parts that could possibly be causing the slight squeaking that I heard. The overall experience was great. We will definitely be going back to this Midas for future services! read more

I went here a few months ago to get a price on a tailpipe for my car and was told about $50-60. Seemed fair, but I got busy and never got back. I went last week and a different guy told me $120 or so, they'd have to bend a pipe custom, but if I got the Volvo replacement, it would cost a couple of hundred. Made an appointment, but it didn't feel right, so I went online and found the tailpipe at IPD for $29, $37 with shipping. I called to cancel the appointment and told him why, and he got pretty rude, telling me how other shops would do poor work installing it, etc, etc. I went down the street to World Muffler, who quoted me $45-50 for a custom bent tailpipe. I'm taking the car there tomorrow. Avoid this Midas place. Maybe it's because I'm a 60+ female, which is a common signal to rip-off shops to jack up the price, but I've been working on my own car for 40 years. Try it on someone else, Midas - it didn't work here. read more

Soo disappointed with this shop! We dropped our sons car off on a Sunday and was assured no problem and that they could repair it. They kept saying they knew what the problem was but when we picked up the car on a Tuesday, it only made it across the street and died. Our son had to push it to the next parking lot over. The car was taken back to the shop and we were hopeful that they were working on it, however, Andrew, the store manager, never contacted us to pursue what the problem still was and when we called to see if the car was fixed, he told us that since we didn't call him, they didn't even work on the car. So we told him to work on the car and he said, no worries, they would get it fixed. He said the car would be ready Thursday and it still wasn't. Fast forward to Friday, Andrew said he was placing his lead mechanic on the job first thing Saturday morning. However, Andrew was not in the shop Saturday and we had to re-explain everything to the lead mechanic. This caused so much stress on us and a lots of money. There are so many more details that went wrong at this shop but it would take 2 pages to write. I would never recommend this shop! read more

I would give these guys a ZERO if I could, these guys are unprofessional and and bunch of junk yard workers. From this store all the way to the managers manager. I brought my car in to change the brakes this month, after a few days, my car wouldn't shift out of park with me thinking that the brakes locked or malfunctioned. With that I called up midas at 725 E El Camino Real Sunnyvale, CA 94087 and told them the problem. I towed my car the next day so they can see if it was the breaks. The guy told me that "it might not be the breaks but could be one of three things, and I will give you a ****FREE DIAGNOSIS****" I said OK, just let me know if its' the breaks or not. After four days I received a call stating that it wasn't the breaks and that it was there was a broken piece in the interlock and if I wanted them to fix it, BUT, they checked around and the piece was hard to find. I asked how much the gave a price. I did my research and found that the piece was a recall so I called them back and told them. They then "OFFERED" to put my car BACK TOGETHER $180 and that THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME. I asked why, they replied labor, I replied, you said free and what I signed said free which is a legal document, they then gave me a BS excuse. I then called the dealership and explained the situation and they said well tow the car so they can fix the RECALL ITEM. I called midas back and told them that my car was going to get towed to the dealership and that I was going to let them know when, they then told me hurry because they NEED THE SPOT BECAUSE MY CAR IS HOLDING THEM FROM MAKING MONEY. I said I will get the tow truck guy there as soon as I can but it was two days later because I WORK. The car was towed two days later to the dealership. After a week the dealership told me that whoever took apart my car did a bad job - in which (I NEVER AUTHORIZED THEM TO DO BUT TO ONLY TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT WAS THE BREAKS) THEY LEFT MY CAR IN PEICES. I went to check it out for myself and there were parts in my back seat and the floor of the passenger side. I TOOK PICTURES. The dealership found that there are parts missing to my car and midas took 6 DAYS to realized it. The dealership said because of the mess they made, i have to pay $280 now. I called the head manager jason to inform him of the situation and he did or acted no better than what the manager of the store said which I am not going to get into but lets just say UNPROFESSIONAL, FOULMOUTHED, ILL MANNERED AND had the AUDACITY to try and TALK TO ME LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT. I told the head manager that the dealership was charging me because of Midas negligent. After going back and fourth I am still dealing with this issue of Midas not wanting to pay for their negligence. I have to now REPORT THEM TO the BEREAU OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR and file a suit in which i will make public and post it on every major review website I can find. timing belt change quote - are you kidding me? i asked them how much to change the timing belt would cost and they told me 450!!! then i asked how much just for the labor because i had the parts - and i got told off "if thats the way you want to do it" like only their parts are worth to put on, anyways 300 labor and 150 parts. with great expectation that there may be some thing else wrong with the car- "if there is nothing else needs working on (and-i'm-sure-i'll-find-it type of attitude)". anyways i called other shops and they were much more polite and on average the labor is about 200. i got my parts on e-bay for around 60 (belt made in USA tentioner korea, pulley korea) . i called the seller on ebay and they sounded like a nice business people that give a one year warranty on their parts. if maidas are charging more then any one i have encountered so far, they should at least give some VIP treatment in the conversation, cause they had neither politeness nor competitive prises. read more
