Took my car for a Full Synthetic oil change and tire rotation - MIDAS 9550 N 90th ST., SCOTTSDALE 85258. Have taken my 2 cars here several times. I was concerned that they just don't do the tire rotation part of the service for at least the last few times I took my cars in. Felt this way for a couple of reasons. 1. I can generally tell by driving the vehicle that tires have been rotated. It drives different. 2. They usually take the car from one bay where they change the oil to another bay where they rotate the tires although they occasionally take it out of the oil change bay and use manual jacks to rotate in the back parking lot. My wheels have a lock nut on each wheel that requires a custom socket that comes with the car. I put the socket in my pocket when I took the car in and sat and waited for the service to be completed, so there was no way they had the custom socket to get the lug nuts off to rotate the tires. Sure enough technician comes in says he's done with oil change and tire rotation and left the paper work on the counter. The service manager tells me my car is ready. I go to the desk and ask, "Did the tires get rotated"? He answered yes. At that point I pulled out the custom socket to get the tire off and asked, "How did they rotate the tires without this"? He quickly took the socket and went to the technician and had him rotate the tires. So I get the car back and to show their displeasure of being caught red handed, they over inflate my tires and over tighten all the lug nuts. There was never I'm sorry or, that won't happen again, or any effort to make it right in an effort to retrieve my business. Used to be that good service made your business grow. Obviously not only does this company not want to make it better, oh no, they want to punish me for catching them in the act. SAD! Makes me wonder if they really use the Full Synthetic oil that I paid for as opposed to regular, less expensive oil or if they even change the oil filter? BEWARE! read more

I have an older 2002 Dodge Durango and had recently had a lot of front end work done on it. After that, it needed a front end alignment, it would veer to the right. I found a Groupon and thought I'd give them a try. Well, I brought it to them, and afterwords, no luck it still veered right. I brought it back, again, no success. Then, I took it to the recommended Network Alignment on Cave Creek, they checked alignment on it for no charge, and printed out a document that said the alignment was off. I then took it back to Midas a third time. Afterwards, again, no luck. One more time, after Midas rechecked their alignment equipment. Still, veering to the right. Took it back to Network for the alignment once, and it is good now. Midas was communicative and tried, but couldn't get it done properly. Lisa, the manager I was working with, refunded me. She was very professional. It took much time to go back and forth (I almost enjoyed it as I spent my time and went to Ajo Al's across the street for lunch), but unfortunately, ultimately they couldn't get it right. I called an scheduled an appointment to have my brakes changed. I arrived at the scheduled appointment time and was told it would take them 45 minutes to do just the brake assessment. Ok fine. I had breakfast plans anyways. I left my car there and was told they would call me with the estimate, so I went to breakfast. With no phone call, I came back an hour and a half later to find out they still had not finished the estimate yet until about a few minutes after I arrived. I was told they would honor the Groupon prices, which they did. With the add on costs of the hardware (honestly, still don't know what that is) and resurfacing of my rotators, it came out to double the price I was expecting. This ended up not being cheaper than anywhere else that was having a special, so I drove all the way out here from downtown phoenix for no reason. From dropping my car off to leaving, it took a total of 2.5 hours. I noticed that my emergency brake is now able to be pulled really high up and I don't like that at all. I like were it was before. It really bothers me a lot. I don't understand why my emergency brake was messed with in the first place and why it wasn't put back the way it was found. I will have to get the tweaked next week when I take my car in to get tires and an alignment at the dealership. read more

After a jump from a good citizen, on our way home we called Midas and they took us right in for a new battery even though they were busy with other clients. This is hands-down the most comprehensive diagnostic and follow-up of any shop in the valley. Every other shop would've recommended a new transmission...especially with the CVT tranny being so notorious for needing chronic and never-ending service and replacements. Greg and his master mechanic Manny went above and beyond to think outside the box and get creative. Ultimately discovering (by taking the time to call me and ask questions) that some trauma to the underbelly of the car - specifically the tranny pan - caused an ever so slight bend in the spout...creating a pressure issue. All the while keeping me informed every step of the way with calls, pics and texts. Nothing hidden, everything explored until the cheapest and most effective solution was reached. I went to pick up my car today and was again struck with just how incredible this shop is. It was 4:55pm when I arrived and they close at 5pm. There was an older lady in there, clearly distraught over a catalytic converter issue and not understanding anything conceptually about the work needing to be done. The guy behind the desk (who's name was also Andrew) never once made her feel rushed, out-of-place, or uncomfortable for asking questions. He went above and beyond to clearly explain the work, each step and why, as well as what things would cost. He never got frustrated despite being well past the end of his day. He made me feel taken care of in line periodically while he helped her decipher her own notes and what it all meant to her in the long run, cost-wise and to the life of her vehicle. He provided her with an exact number to contact him on Monday so she could follow up with any additional questions. It's rare to see anything even close to this level of customer service anymore...in any profession let alone the notoriously shady mechanic line of business. So to find a place like this and to see the staff that Greg has assembled from top Master Mechanic down...it's refreshing and has renewed my faith in my fellow humans. There are some good and pure souls out there still and they need to be recognized. These are the people that we need to give our money to because they are out there everyday doing good for people that most other's would be taking advantage of. Not everything has to be about money and taking as much as we can from each other. To a dwindling portion of society, honest business and doing what's right and fair are still the only guiding principles needed in order to be a successful business. So if you can and when your car presents the need for brakes, oil change or any work needed, take the extra 10, 20, 40 minutes to head to his shop and help support some honest and truly good humans in a field where so many of the opposite exist. read more

I needed an Alignment, car pulling to the right. after the alignment car still pulls right. review the print out, still out of specs. was told additional work was required when the Camber adjustment was not done, the upper strut mounts have adjustment slots and there was no sign that any attempt to make the needed adjustments. I feel because I am a woman they tried to take advantage of me and charge $125.00 to loosen three bolts and move the top of the struts to bring the alignment within specs. read more

Warning! I went here with a Groupon because my car needed a front end alignment, they tried to sell me $3000 worth of other work. I denied the other work to get a second opinion without any work being done. I immediately took it to a shop I trust and 3 mechanics there assured me I didn't need the other work...I only needed an alignment. Buyer beware!!!!! If I could give a lower rating I would. I am very sad to write this review because I have always loved Midas. They have always been professional and honest. But I recently took my car to this Midas to get an oil change. When I went to pick it up the GENERAL MANAGER told me that I needed nearly $2,500 in repairs. I needed new front end suspension and new control arms. After a few days of driving the skid plate fell off the bottom of my car. Midas must have lost some of the hardware used to properly attach the skid plate when doing the oil change. I had driven about 10 miles on the highway, once I reached my destination my skid plate was hanging on by one screw. That entire time the skid plate was rubbing up against the inner wall of one of my tires. I brought the car back and they attempted to fix the issue, however, not a single person apologized and it took weeks to get the proper parts to fix my car. If they are willing to cut corners on something this small what else are they cutting corners on? IT GETS WORSE. Because I noticed the lack of professionalism and honesty with them trying to hide a poorly attached skid plate, I decided to get a second opinion on the other issues they said I needed to address. I brought my car to a Brakes Plus (Which I highly recommend, they are a full-service mechanic, they have better prices than Midas and they are upfront, honest people. Unlike the individuals working at Midas, they tell you what you need and do not lie about maintenance that is not needed.) I explained my experience with Midas to Brakes Plus and they assured me that they would triple check my front end suspension. Brakes Plus told me that my suspension was in PERFECT working condition and shows ZERO signs of needing replacement any time soon. Do yourself and your WALLET a favor, never go to Midas. Your Car will always "have" issues that don't exist. It is disgusting how this location takes advantage of people. read more

She saves me tons of money by helping me order used parts on eBay for her to install, hooking me up with extended warranties and constantly sending me oil change coupons. As if that wasn't enough, my mom had been suspicious her auto place was over charging her so I brought her in to Lisa. My mom saved $450 on the same services the other shop told her she needed. This Midas location is fantastic and Lisa and Craig are so helpful and friendly! The warranty on my car just ran out and I needed new brakes and an oil change. My Dad told me to call Midas, so I did. When I called I realized they were much cheaper than the dealer and could fit me in that day! They didn't have the parts for my car in stock but they received them quickly and did my front brakes, the oil change and rotated my tires. I was out of there in about an hour and a half. They had delicious coffee from the Keurig, so waiting wasn't that bad. I then came back on a Saturday to get the back brakes done and although they were very busy, I was out of there quickly! Both Lisa and Craig explained everything that needed to be done on my car and unlike other car places, they didn't try and sell me into hundreds of dollars worth of stuff that I didn't need. They did however let me know when I'll need to come back in for roters and new tires. I just moved to Scottsdale from San Diego so I've had to rely heavily on Yelp and some friends that I know, to help me know where to go, eat, etc. After looking on Yelp and receiving great service via the phone before I went in to Midas, I knew that I've have a fantastic experience here and I know that I'll be back sooner than later! Told my friend to go for an oil change here since they had a good oil change deal, but in the back of my head after I told her to go here, I felt they would try up-sell her or tell her something else is wrong. Consumers have to understand that shops like Midas and other make their money off labor and up-charge on parts, period this is how the shop makes money and the chain stays in business. So do you think if businesses like this will always be truthful? So my friend got up sold for $10 on a higher mileage oil, there's some debate on the high mileage oil and it seems to help cars that maybe leaking or burning more oil than normal, which her car was not. Fine no biggie it's just $10. I picked her up and we had lunch while they checked her car out, I set up the appointment and requested they check to see if the radiator had a leak. She got a call from Lisa and she said that her Serpentine belt needed to be replaced as it was cracking Part is $80 and Labor is $100 to install. They proceeded to tell her that her Radiator was cracked and the total to do that was $650 with parts. We went back to Midas while Lisa talked to my friends about the repairs that were needed, I just sat back and didn't say a word as I listened to Lisa explain that the Serpentine belt should be replaced immediately as if it breaks it will leave the vehicle dead on the road. And to check the temp gauge for the radiator if it starts to get to the red marks. While she did give correct information, the urgency of the belt had me concerned, I wish I had looked at belt myself before the following happened. I called up Autozone to see how much the belts where and they ranged from $25 to $36 and I would install it myself since I have major experience working on my cars and currently a SUV, which I went through from front to end, knowing if I had gone to a shop like this, the cost would have been $10k easily for what I did in labor and parts I looked online to found the Radiator ranging from $68 to $110, while most people choose to not do their own work because it can be time consuming depending on what is being repaired. The Serpentine belt is a 10 minute change out and the Radiator can range from 1 to 2 hours. Realizing I didn't have a jack to go under my friends car to undo some plastic mounts where the pulleys are for the belt, I decided to hire a mobile mechanic. I wanted a second opinion on the repairs that Midas suggested. Dennis the Mobile Mechanic showed me that the Serpentine belt was fine, and I agreed with him, after comparing it to the new one, while the belt had some small stress cracks on the pulley side groove areas, the outer smooth side was in great condition with no issues. There was no urgency (up-sell and sales tactic) to change the belt right away. Dennis could not find the so called crack that Midas had stated with the Radiator, mind you most of the shops that I have things checked out for repair, actually show you the issue items as to inform the consumer. Midas didn't. Dennis actually showed me that the Radiator was leaking from a hose that had been recently repaired by another shop, which was under warranty. I regret telling my friend to come here and also not verifying the parts from Midas itself that needed repair, my friend called up Midas and talked to Lisa and her response was that our techs are trained blah blah , etc. Shop like Midas just reinforce my notion that you just can't trust shops to do the right thing, same goes for dealers, which are worse. So I booked an appointment to get my car aliened for 3 pm. When I dropped off my car they said it will take 1 hour (what its a 10 min. job) So I told them to text me with any problems or when its done. We walked around for 1 hour got no text so we walked back. My car was outside so I assumed it was done. But NO they haven't even started it. They said there was a truck on there rack longer then expected. I said no phone call or text ? What is the point in making an appointment ?? This should of been a 15 min. visit but it took 1 and 15 mins. I will never go back to a Midas again and suggest no one else go here.. read more

Brought my truck in to install an aftermarket muffler. I was told to show up at 8 in the morning to have the 45min-1hr job done with no problem. Well, he ended up running late, so I came in at 11. When I did, he said the bays were too busy so I scheduled a time at 2 pm. They took it in and got the "45 min job done" in about an hour and 45 mins. Ofcourse they charged me for double the labor time, which I'm okay with, I wish they didn't fool me into expecting it would be done in 45 min, but whatever, it was aftermarket. This is when the problems began. About a few miles driven from the shop, the muffler and exhaust tubing started to rattle underneath. Especially when in reverse, it sounded terrible. I brought it in again to have it fixed and they were right to it which was great! But I left again, and not more than a couple hours, the hanger they "welded" to the tubing to keep it from rattling broke off. I took a look at it and knew that thing would absolutely not hold the exhaust from rattling and sure enough, one bump in the road broke that poorly welded point off from the "hanger" and the tubing. I am now in the shop AGAIN to fix this issue. They were friendly about it in regards to getting it in quick, but no apologies what so ever for taking my time each day to bring my vehicle in to solve an easy problem they could not solve. And guess what, it BROKE OFF AGAIN. I took it into another shop to find out what was wrong because there was no way I would bring it back a 4th time to them. They told me that 2 brackets were missing and the hanger they welded could of broke the tubing if I were to offroad or hit a large bump. They shorted the exhaust system and it hangs lower than it should hitting the crossmember of the frame which is causing that awful rattle noise. I now have to pay another $100 to get this fixed PROFESSIONALLY and fix that awful welding job. I will never take my vehicle back into a Midas nor will I ever recommend anyone to them. If they can't install a simple universal muffler and (I'm pretty sure they stole my brackets) get the job done, then why trust them with an oil change or any automotive repair. read more

Lisa is a gem! but the first two mechanics ( didn't get their names ) made excuses about the work and what needed to be done. I made an appointment for Fri. Upon arrival Lisa there with a smile assigned Josh to my vehicle and I cannot praise him enough. Prices are deceiving at Midas and they always try and ridiculously up-sell you. I had a similar experience with the coupon at Midas as Jeff Y. I should have listened to the reviews and not gone to this location, but it was on my way to work. I ended up spending more on an oil change than I ever have before. I even had a coupon; my dealership is even cheaper than them! I know most places always add on disposal charges, but they added on about 5 more charges making the oil change cost $14 more than the coupon I brought in. They told me it was because I need premium products...uhhh, I drive a freaking domestic made, Jeep with a V6 engine WTF! The only reason they received 2 stars was because my car wasn't sabotaged, I guess they did their job (as far as I know), and the customer service was alright (meaning the guy at the desk was semi-pleasant, but mostly had many excuses). To make things worse, they were out of coffee in the waiting area, so I had to sit there and watch Kendra on TV without coffee for an hour this morning. Maybe this was all just a bad nightmare! ALRIGHT, I AM PISSED. I Have been a loyal customer for 10 plus years and my whole family brings their cars there, that's 6+ cars we have taken to THIS location for years. I have had a really good experience until yesterday. Apparently this store is under new management and his name is DAVID MENDIVIL and he is an deceiving ass. 1) he denied me the use of my coupon for my oil change 2) told me that ALL OF A SUDDEN my oil change was going to be about $10 more (this includes not being able to use the coupon) because the manufacture of my car requires the expensive oil. All of a sudden after 4 years (my car is an '08) the oil type changed??? He said he couldn't be reliable in case something went wrong...why would something all of a sudden go wrong with the oil you've been in my car for the last 4 years? 3) he was so rude and such an ass 1)My mom went back today to complain to him...and he said and i quote "i don't care about you couponing people" (what a dick) 2)My mom asked for the owners information and he said and i quote "i am not giving you the owners name.. (k dumb dumb i am 24 year old computer whiz..i'll find his info in a heart beat). 3)my mom made him print out all the paper work from 2008 showing and proving the oil that he has been putting in to my car..and it's the cheaper oil that he told me he could no longer sell me..... 4) my mom drove to Honda after this experience today and asked Honda if there was any truth to having certain oils in your car..they said "no, we might recommend certain oils but we don't mandate or force any particular kind." I am so offended with how MIKE MENDIVIL treated me and my mother and we are seeking higher actions to call him out and take him out of business. read more

Got a simple oil change a few months ago and after it was done I had an oil leak that wasn't there prior to bringing it in. I went back as soon as I could (a couple days later) and told them, to which they told me that "there's no way of proving that was us". I took it to another car shop and they told me that Midas never properly put on the gasket. Will never come back read more
