I had a starter issue on my car and needed to be seen ASAP. I called at 9am on a Monday and they said to bring the car in and they'd take care of it that day. I dropped it off, ran home (I live 2 miles away) and they called to update me. I thought the starter, labor, and the tube thing (name is escaping me) for about $750 was decent for a Honda that is 16 years old. They could've probably found 72 things wrong because it's an old car, but stuck to the plan and off I went. Car was done 5 hours later and I ran back to get it. They applied the 10% discount from their website without me even asking--check for those discounts! Next to a bunch of restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shop, so you can pop over to Coffee Bean for free wifi while you wait and they'll call you over. Jonathan Lathrop is my new hero. My car was leaking oil and they " fixed it". It was better, but not fixed. I took it back and they had to spend 3 days taking everything apart. Still wasn't fixed. They ordered all new parts at no cost, got me a rental car at no cost, and we're finally able to figure out what was wrong. Most repair shops I've been to over the years get mad at me and my car when this happens. These guys were so nice and apologetic it was crazy. And a rental car?!?! Who does that. When the car was fixed I was able to drop off the rental at Sun Devil and drive my FRESHLY WASHED CAR home! This location has been serving my family for over 20 years and never a problem. Although they initially offered to cover the cost of repairing the window tinting when we returned the next day with a quote, they refused to pay f. I have been a long-time customer of sun devil auto at the East San Victor Drive location and felt I had quality service, but as of late, it seems management has changed, and service has dwindled dramatically. After they made three appointments with me to bring my car In, they continuously turned me away due to being short-staffed and unable to fix my air conditioning. I would not recommend this location as this is not the first time I have had problems since the new management. So I just had my tires changed at Firestone and believed that Sun Devil rotated my tires every year as it was written on my invoice , Now I see it was all lies. Below is the photo of the state of my tires. My family could have died or I could have seriously hurt someone in an accident if my tire blew out. Sorry for the novel. Meh. I came here a year ago to fix front light on my Mercedes GLK. Original cost/quote $250, then changed me $15. I was like cool- an honest mechanic. I'll be back. Switch to this year Nov/Dec 2022, just figured I would have my oil changed here instead of driving all the way to Gilbert to have it serviced at the dealership. While I was there, I mentioned that there's a smell of gas in my garage and to go ahead see what might be wrong. They found that my fuel pump was cracked. $800. I mentioned that I have an extended warranty and they researched it and fortunately it was covered $100 deductible. Now, keep in mind I took it to dealership with no issues- June 2022- 6 months earlier. It's only Dec. Ooookaaay. Paid & went on merry way. Well, I drive away & notice my gas gauge isn't working. WTF?!! It worked when I dropped the damn car off. I call them, bring it back in - asking what did they do to "break my gas gauge"-meaning it always reads " Empty" & $20 to fill it up, ain't working. Especially with gas prices now. So what did your mechanic do? I bring it back in. They look at it. Oh- sorry- mechanics didn't notice but your OTHER fuel pump (there are 2, they informed me) was broken. Wait, isn't one of these mechanics a Mercedes specialist?? That's another $700 please. Whah??? How can both pumps go out at same time? Ummm... again, it's covered under warranty. Another $100 deductible. Shady... but I let it slide because it's covered under my warranty. Let's talk about my other car, my mini cooper. I figure ok- let me bring it in to get some major work done at the same time. This was before my Mercedes issue. I figured--I trust these guys. I ask - can you work on these mini's. I know they are PIA to work on. Yeah, yeah- we can do it. $4k later, I leave . I honestly I am okay with it. I knew it needed a lot of work. BUT the problem, I have ---is before I EVEN left the parking lot- the "check engine " light was on. I am like- look, I just paid you guys $4k, why is this light on? & what does it mean... same song & dance- oh, let us look at it. $700 more please... what??!!! I just paid you $4k & you couldn't figure this out before you told me it was "fixed". I refused the add'l work & asked for a written quote. Needless to say- no quote was ready when I picked up the car, but there was a list of the work I refused but with no $$ amounts next to the work needed. I took the mini to the dealership & they gave me quotes with $$ so I could make an informed decision. Sus... Warning to others--just ask for a written quote... Good luck! read more

Good deals on oil changes, if you receive mailings. Check their website, too. Sun Devil used to have a local, mom and pop shop vibe. Now , it has been purchased by a New York Equity group. This tells you a story... making more profit. How is that achieved? By charging more, suggesting more services. Make sure to get a second opinion and to shop the prices quoted for services. Coolant flush there was more expensive than the dealer...or the garage across the street. My mistake for agreeing to the service without shopping it first. Last time doing that...prior to this, Sun Devil had always been competitive at 50% less than dealer. I guess the equity guys figured that out . read more

The flexible appointment scheduling and being open on Saturdays is a plus. In addition, they don't miss a damn beat! I forgot for months that my car battery was loose (AAA told me this) and the next I stop in, they informed me I needed a battery tie down kit. I have been a Sun Devil customer for 15 years. Always have been happy with the service, the honesty, and the competence with the mechanics. Things have seemed to take a turn for the worse.....not sure if management changed...looks like the usual mechanics I always had cannot be found there....quite worrisome. I took my car in to have a problem checked out....while there a woman came in and was complaining that she had her car worked on just the day before...and now it was worse than ever. The gentleman at the counter just kept saying, "I don't know what to tell you, we didn't do it". She left in a hurry. Later, I received a call that to repair my problem would cost over $800.00!!! No Way! I called the following day to ask if they could adjust things so the car could run effectively until I decided what to do. Answer was no.....there is nothing to do except repair it. Well, I am taking my car elsewhere on Monday for a second opinion....and no matter what, I won't be going back to Sun Devil any longer. Terrible service. Went for an oil change which included a tire rotation. They never rotated tires or filled. They were way below the PSI they should be. They claimed they did this along with checking all the fluids. Not even sure they looked at the fluid or did the inspection they said they did. When my previous favorite auto repair facility changed hands and went from trustworthy to not-so-much, I was in search of a new auto repair facility which is conveniently located (close to my home) and which - MOST OF ALL - I could trust. I'm please now to report that this Sun Devil Auto is trustworthy. Their prices are reasonable and they don't recommend/sell/push services that I probably don't need and which simply add to their revenue. Yes, sometimes they "lose the sale and keep the customer." I'll be back. It turns out my prior place had significantly overtightened my oil cartridge cover, and as a result, they had to basically destroy the old one, which took them close to an hour. I expected (and was willing) to pay extra for this extra effort that was NOT their fault, but they wouldn't accept an extra payment. I'll be back. The only downside to this place is that the shop is not particularly neat and clean. As a lean manufacturing expert, that annoys me, and I wish the place was cleaner, neater, and better organized. I've been taking my car to this location for years. After a change in service desk personnel I lost trust and satisfaction with Sun Devil Auto. My window washer fluid started leaking so I took it in to be inspected. Later on I received a call that they had fixed it and the cost of the repair was in the past I would receive a call with the cost of repair, they had just "repaired it" this time. I was told, that they had made a quick fix instead of replacing the whole system, I asked if work would be guaranteed. After parking that day, I noticed a fluid leak so I called to let them know but assumed it could be an overfill. It wasn't the case, I decided to take it in at a later point (1mo.) for them to fix it right. I was told a rat had chewed on the line. The same day they had "fixed" the problem? I found this very suspect, and let them know this. To their credit, a district manager called me back after leaving a complaint at their corporate office, he offered to fix the problem no charge. Was explained what my car was going to go through and advised oil for my engine. They had my car ready in around 30 minutes. These guys have good reviews so I thought I would give them a try. I scheduled an appointment for an oil change the next day. I show up and we exchange pleasantries as expected. Maybe 15 minutes later I'm told that my oil drain plug is stuck and needs to be air hammered out and that the process of doing that will ruin the oil pan. Then I'm quoted $1300 for a new oil pan. Nope, not doing that so I grab my vehicle and leave. Just for giggles after I got back home I grab a wrench and get under my vehicle and test the drain plug. It turned just fine so I tighten it back up and go to AutoZone to get what I need to do my own oil change then proceeded to change my own oil without any problems. How can I trust a shop with maintaining and repairing my vehicle if they can't even get an oil change right and try and screw me out of $1300 in repairs. If this was a real automotive shop I would have at least expected some lesser alternatives to the repair such as drilling out a stuck ( which it wasn't) drain plug and rethreading the drain plug hole for an oversized drain plug. That would have taken skill. Just quoting me for an expensive replacement takes no skill but soaks my pocket book. And it loses you a potential customer. read more

This store probably knows this review is coming... Took my Jeep Grand Cherokee in bc it started a jerking motion as i accelerated or in a complete stop. I walk in and tell him what I'm experiencing, he asks if any lights are on-like check engine? Yes, the check engine light has been on for many months. I took it to jeep and they looked it up on the computer and told me it's a leak somewhere. The car is with them and same day i get a call to pick it up. They explain to me what it was and that it'll be 400. Ok. I go to pick it up and on the way home i feel the jerking still. The car isn't fixed at all. I have to get up early in the morning again to take it back and on my way over the check engine light turns back on. Cool. What was the 400 for? This time they need it over night bc they can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it. But they won't just say that. 50 later in lyft rides i get a call the following day claiming my car is fixed again and that this time they've driven it around to make sure. Cool. I get there and ask what was wrong with it and the front guy says under his breath, there was a "tear in one of the hoses". I don't make it out of the parking lot before i feel the jerking again. I stop and go back and tell him that it's still not fixed. The mechanic that had apparently been working on it takes it and aggressively drives it around the parking lot which i did not appreciate at all. He comes back and claims he doesn't feel anything. I say can you ride w me, he does, i say "there! Did you feel that?" "No, i didn't." He goes on to pretend he doesn't know what I'm talking about. When in reality they were running diagnostics but it kept coming back clear so they didn't know where to look i guess? I leave feeling like I'm crazy but he assures me if anything "gets worse" to come back. Well, it did get worse-- the jerks were more noticeable so i take it back AGAIN. I don't know if more experienced mechanics were now working, or what, but someone seemed to figure out the problem. He calls me and tells me what it is and says the part is ordered. So when i get back to auto shop the front guy tells me there's going to be a COST associated with this repair. I tell him, I'm not paying for anything. I was actually going to ask for money back because of what I've gone through with you guys. He says he'll talk to his manager. I ask for a print out for what they're doing to my car and he say he will email it to me and never did. I get to work and get a call from the manager who is making it seem like he's doing me this huge favor by covering that repair too. When in reality i deserve my money back-at least something back! These guys can manipulate the situation however they see fit so they're not taking full responsibility for incompetence. And you see this when the front guy muffled under his breath that it was a "tear in a hose", which was a complete fabrication. Lying to your customers, manipulating situations, and acting like covering the cost of the real issue was doing me such a favor--are these all apart of your high ethic standards? My transmission light came on in my 2006 bmw, not wanting to drive it far to my usual mechanic I made an appointment here, because it was conveniently close. By the time I got there the light had gone away but they talked me into keeping the appointment. A couple hours later they called to say it was finished, when I went to pick it up I was told my transmission "was done for" and quoted $3k-$5k for a new one. It felt off.. it was driving fine and the light went away, how could I need to replace it? I took it for a second opinion at my usual mechanics yesterday, where I was told that my transmission is still in great condition but I needed my transmission fluids topped off, A $200 fix. I'm not sure if they made the assumption that as a 21 year old girl with a beamer I was naive enough to fork over $4k that easy, or if the mechanics are incompetent, but I'd avoid this place at all costs. They can obviously only handle simpler vehicles. read more
