My battery had died but I had just gotten a new one last summer in California while on vacation. I hoped the battery was still under warranty so I came to this location, close to home, and was so happy I did! I worked with Chrystian and he not only replaced the battery (still under warranty ) but took steps to look into more information about my car when he noticed I had 2 different VIN numbers on my car! He explained everything to me so honestly and I really appreciated this since I had no idea. After experiencing the worst traffic while traveling (CA-AZ-NV), the hanger, exhaustion, dehydration & lack of places to stop to pee, nothing could even make the situation worse-- But wait! It happened, we hit a pothole. We were luckily able to put on a donut to make it the rest of the way, driving another 70 miles on said DONUT (I know bad idea....). But we made it, & I 10/10 DO NOT recommend. This brings us to the next morning when we heard an angelic voice through the phone, coming from a man named Joshua. No, but really Joshua couldn't have been any more helpful! My tires are an uncommon size, and finding one in stock was slim to none. After speaking with Joshua that morning, he informed me that there was a tire for my car at another location and he'd be happy to pick it up for me and they'd be able to put it on that afternoon. We were able to drop of the car & by 2:00 I received a call informing me that my car was ready for pickup! Are you kidding me?! Such awesome customer service & such kindness from a very sweet man! I had a hole in my tire due to a nail on the road. In the past I've always been pressured into getting a whole new tire and even a full set. When I brought my car to this location I was expecting the same experience but they were very kind and were easily able to identify that this could be patched, complete it and got me on my way in less than 20 minutes! I was so happy to not feel pressured into something I knew wasn't necessary and appreciated how quick they were able to get this completed and on my way. When I do need to get all my tires replaced I will absolutely be coming back due to the professionalism and client experience. Thank you so much! read more

I am typically not one to post bad reviews, however I would advise not taking your car to this Pep Boys location (well probably any Pep Boys location for that matter) if you would like to save yourself a huge headache and damage to your car. I took my 2014 Jetta to this Pep Boys location in January to have the spark plugs replaced. The tech/manager said that the spark plugs were stuck so they had to take apart my engine to get them out, and in doing so, they damaged it so badly it couldn't be put back together (see photos). The tech and manager (Chad) tried to claim that they didn't know how this happened, but metal doesn't just break on it's own, and the engine had never been disassembled before. We ended up having to have the car towed to a different shop who stated that due to the damage the entire engine needed to be replaced. A dealership came to the same conclusion. After weeks of going back and forth, Pep Boys did finally agree to pay the $3,800 to replace the engine, but we were without the car for 6+ weeks! Pep Boys did pay for a rental car for about half that time. I did appreciate that they did make it right after we pushed them too, however I think there is an extreme lack of expertise if an engine is broken so badly it needs to be replaced while a mechanic is trying to replace the spark plugs. As a side note, something that was particularly frustrating is that this location is terrible at answering their phones! While the car was not running due to the damage they caused, it was VERY difficult to get ahold of anyone for status updates on getting payment. Additionally, we were never contacted by a regional manager or anyone from corporate other than the person who helped with the claim, even though we asked repeatedly to be put in contact with a district manager. Like I said, save yourself the headache and broken car and go somewhere that is more professional and has more expertise!!!! read more

"Free AC check" = Bait and switch ploy to get your $$$ My AC started intermittently blowing warm air, so I schedule an appt. online for 8am on a weekday. Got a call a moment ago and the guy on the phone says "for one thing, my guy doesn't get here til 9..." then he essentially preceded to tell me that short of looking at pressure and taking interior cabin temp, the "AC check" doesn't tell them much and the at its $$ to have it properly checked out. (Whatever that entails) I'd be fine paying to have the issue inspected, but the phone interaction was rude, I don't appreciate the bait and switch tactic, and It was frankly weird to get talked out of an appointment. At the least, don't schedule an "Free AC check" here. It's a scam to get you in there and pay more. Whoever called me... learn some phone etiquette, my dude. When they are there they will make you feel like they are doing you a favor. Some days they will answer the phone some they won't. Some days they RIP you off. I've come here three times in the past two months to fix my low tire pressure. Each time they said either nothing was wrong, or theyve fixed it. Even though about an hour later each time, the Tire pressure light on my console lights up again and I can feel my tire is softer. I've wasted too much time and money on these people to try to get it fixed with them again. They didn't even tell me my tire was flat until I went to a Discount Tire and got it checked out. The people at this PepBoys are either lazy, incompetent, or just want you out the door so they can move on to the next customer. Follow-up: Not even 24 hours after coming here to get my tire repaired, my tire blew out completely (see photos). I swear they did more damage than good to the tire likely. I totally understand why this Pep Boys has 3 stars. They're very rude and don't seem to understand the meaning of good customer service. The guy answered the phone and every question I asked he had a smart alec tone. I had a coupon for a $59 synthetic oil change. He told me they don't have any synthetic oil and won't for over a week. While I could've waited, I hated his lack of concern and sarcasm in his voice. I went to jiffy lube and gladly paid $85 for the fast, friendly and professional service they provided. Just moved to fountain hill earlier this year so maintained my car at this pepboys for more than 6 months and overall it was pretty good until I ran into problems with the cooling system and air conditioning system. 2 weeks ago my car all of a sudden the a/c started blowing hot air, so I went to pepboys to check it out and found out it was the sub-fan melting against the bracket melting, so I replaced the 2 fans at a cost of $600-$700. However, the sub-fan wasn't actually working properly, and it ended up causing the AC compressor to not work at all (in retrospect it was likely because the fan wasn't working properly). I was told $1000 to replace the compressor and $2500+ if the whole system needed to be replaced. My friend recommended an auto air conditioning store and they quoted me $1000 to replace the whole system, so I went ahead and replaced the whole system. But that didn't fix the problem. Because the sub-fan wasn't working properly, the overheating alarm would light up on particularly hot afternoons when the car was waiting for long periods of time for traffic lights. I went back to pepboys 3 times for help and a very nice staff member checked the car for me 2 times, but I was always told that the fan was fine. However, the front desk manager told me on 2 of my returns that I should go to an AC store to find the problem. I made it clear that I wasn't here to find out who was to blame, I just wanted my car fixed, then the manager looked at me with a very strange look and asked me, are you sure you want to pay another $100 for an inspection to check it out? How ridiculous, the manager's focus was on making more money and passing the buck as opposed to helping the customer fix the problem and told me there was no guarantee that the inspection would fix the problem. Later, the nice staff told me, you'd better go to a store that specializes in checking electronic circuits to solve this problem. Today my heat alarm light came back on and I already know pepboys is not going to be able to help me with this problem. I will forever blackball pepboys. i was going to give 1 star, but it's true that this store does a pretty good job on some particularly basic and simple repairs, so i'll give 2 stars. I don't mean to blame the store or the manager, Every man should confine himself to his own duties, I'm just sharing my experience, if it's just simple and basic repairs, pepboy is still good, but for some complicated and very important repairs, it's still not recommended to come here. read more

Summer is here in Arizona and you know what that means.. school is out, temperatures are 100+, and batteries are dying. I discovered my dead battery at around 720 AM and after getting it jumped, I was desperate to get it replaced before I had to go back to work. I called right when the shop opened at 730 and was told to bring my car in and I would be accommodated. There were several other things I had been too lazy to do like get my oil changed (shame on me) and change the windshield wipers. There's nothing worse than poorly functioning wiper blades during monsoon season. I mentioned this to the employee at the front desk who ensured I could get these things fixed as well. A few hours later, I got a phone call and voicemail that my car was ready. While checking out, I found a $25 off coupon. The employee made some adjustments and boom-instant savings. On Friday 10/12:18, Ford came out to jump start my dead battery. I drove straight to Pep Boys. While I was waiting, an employee went outside, came back in and said "you need 4 new tires." Great. "But how's the battery?" The battery tested "good." So I don't need a battery but I DO need 4 new tires? Which makes no sense because I just had my car to the dealer for an oil change and they told me the tires were in good shape. Here I am the day after, stranded with a dead battery. The same battery they told me tested good. Again, Ford is coming to assist. Guess who's NOT going to Pep Boys for a battery, new tires, or anything else?!? You absolutely lack the integrity to be honest with customers and you've put me in a situation that could have been avoided- had your employees actually known what they're talking about rather than try to sell me new tires. This could have been resolved yesterday but instead I have to waste another day- now at the Ford dealer. You put my children and my safety at risk telling me things are "good" when clearly, they're not good. I was disappointed with this Pep Boys service. I made an appointment online via their website only to show up and wait in an empty lobby with no employees and then ultimately be rejected service. After finally walking around to the back and asking for assistance, I was told that the online appointment system was faulty and that they wouldn't have time for me. I went in to determine the cause for a check engine indicator, and was pleasantly surprised that not only did they diagnose that the problem is caused by a loose or defective gas cap, but also... no charge at all! Next day, my car stalled in middle of intersection and had to be towed to nearest mechanic where it was discovered the battery cables were very loose, not tightened onto battery. Decided I would go to my local repair shop to see if they could service my vehicle. Upon arriving at this pep boys location when I walked in the front was completely unattended. There were multiple customers in the lobby wondering what was going on because no staff were in the lobby or manager office. After seeing 3-4 customers leave due to not wanting to wait after about 10-15 minutes of not being helped and the staff nowhere to be seen I decided to walk around back. That's where I found the manager of the location joking around with a random person and completely not doing his job while also leaving the front of the store with sensitive information unattended. When I confronted him he responded with a very care free response of "what do you want me to do?". Maybe do your job bud! Ridiculous and honestly a joke of a location to the pep boys name. Won't be leaving my keys or car there for some random person to steal them off the desk when it's left unattended for long periods of time. A logistical and liability nightmare here. DO NOT GO TO THIS CRAPPY GARAGE! RIP OFF and TOTALLY INCOMPETENT! THIS IS A MUST READ!!! I brought all my vehicles to Advanced Auto for twenty years. I never once had an issue (at this location until it became Pep Boys). Pep Boys bought Advanced Auto. They immediately fired everyone or cut their pay until they quit. I thought I'd roll the dice and give Pep Boys a shot. All I wanted was a brake job, oil change and tire rotation. Somehow when inspecting my brakes they blew the master cylinder! They apologized and replaced it with a new master cylinder. Two thousands miles later I'm driving down the road and my car won't stop!!! I had my wife and daughter in the car. We almost died!!! THANK GOD there were no other cars on the road and I was able to turn into a parking lot and spin-out!! I was so pissed at Pep Boys but I knew there was no way they could fix the vehicle. I had lost all faith in them. Yes, I'm sure I could of got a "free repair," but I'd already been down that road. It wasn't about the money, it was about getting my vehicle fixed properly. I brought my vehicle into a different reputable garage. The morons at Pep Boys put the front brake pads on incorrectly! This is after blowing the master cylinder! Long story short, I could have been killed! I had to have the entire brake assembly replaced! I actually contacted the CEO in New York via LinkedIn. The CEO actually responded, which I thought was impressive. He had the Regional Manager call me and apologize. Nice enough but a day late and the damage had been done. This whole event was so upsetting even a free Hawaiian vacation wouldn't of made up for it. I mean, what's your family's life worth? I have since learned Pep Boys has cut rate mechanics and pays their staff very little, or so it would appear. They have cost me thousands of dollars and are COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT!!! I have been going to Pep Boys in Scottsdale for two years. I went to the Pep Boys web site and made an appointment for the next day for oil change, wheel balance and front-end alignment. I show up for my 10:00 AM appointment only to find out they have no technicians. The only person there is a manager. This is the third time in three months the exact same thing has happened. Since I began taking my car there every single employee has quit. 100% turnover. I saw four managers quit in 12 months so that means this is a regional/corporate problem and not the on-site manager. My daughter took her car to Pep Boys due to a battery light problem. Five hours later she was told that the diagnostics couldn't find anything wrong. As she drive home, the car totally shut down on the 101 freeway in 108 degree heat. Fortunately she was able to pull onto the right side. Myself & my daughter will never use Pep Boys again. They are lacking basic engine repair skills and put my daughter into a very dangerous situation. She could have been killed as well as caused a serious hiway accident. read more

Since they have changed hands they have lost their great customer service. I had my cars serviced here for years. I had my vehicle serviced here last year after breaking down. The service completed has now been recalled on my car & if I provide a a copy of my receipt to Ford, they will reimburse me. Unfortunately, I lost all of my email from 2017 (which contained my receipt) so I called to ask if they could resend. I spoke with 2 different people, both equally rude & inconvenienced by my request. They both told me (rudely might I add) that they have no record of my services & were not willing to assist me any further. The 2nd gentlemen didn't even ask for anything other than the date when he said "we have nothing", he never asked for my number, name, email, etc. So disappointing, they were so much better before as Advanced Tire & when Gary was there.
