AVOID AT ALL COSTS: I went to get an oil change from this location, added some extra things I knew it needed. Not only did the front desk person fail to provide a cost sheet (required by NJ consumer protections law) and then the mechanic broke my glovebox due to negligence by pulling it off the hinges too hard. The one manager who helped me is probably the only thing this location has going for it, they fixed the glove box for free but then broke the trunk lock switch in the glovebox making it impossible for me to get into my truck. There seems to be a general lack of care for your vehicle and a lack of double checking the work being done to your vehicle. I tried calling again, was told I would get a call back about the situation but never did. At this point I realized going through the headache and whatever they'll break next wasn't worth getting the part fixed by here again. read more

I went to get an oil change and the manager there had to order an oil filter and air filter and didn't tell me. I waited an hour. To find out from the mechanic they had the oil filter but it wasn't in the system as far as inventory. Terrible service. The Rockaway location has had many changes in managers and mechanics. Set up an appointment to have muffler work done as the muffler was rattling like crazy. I arrived at my scheduled time and was greeted immediately and asked to describe problem. They popped the car up on a lift and 5 minutes later they showed me a small piece of metal that was the heat shield above the muffler that had come loose and was flapping and bouncing on top of the muffler. They weren't going to charge me anything but I insisted they take something. It is so nice to find honest people to deal with. They could have told me the muffler was shot and replaced the whole thing at a large cost and I would not have questioned it. I now have a place I trust for any future work I need done. read more

I came to them with a flat tire. They checked my tire and explained to me why it wasn't able to be patched. I really appreciated it. I had to buy a new tire and they were able to take care of it right away without an appointment. The manager Arthur was really helpful with suggestions of my options that meet my poor budget. Dropped my car off super early today for an oil change... waited 5 hours... called them to check on it... they told me they weren't going to get to it. I've had it... been coming here for over a decade. This is one of many screw ups in the past two years. Six months ago, they forgot to put the oil cap back on... sprayed oil all over the engine and windshield on the highway. I miss the old owner. Came here for an oil change and tire rotation for $29 (labor and tax included). Pretty fast service, they finished within the hour. Not sure if it was because I made an appointment ahead of time or it wasn't too busy in the morning, but nevertheless, I'm pleased with their service time! The guys there are polite and courteous. Haven't had experience with other big car jobs though so can't speak for that. read more

CUSTOMERS BEWARE!!! Just went here today to get brake pads done. They first asked me if I wanted front or rear pads done, so I told them both. When she Finally was able to give me a price, it was around $160. So, here I am, figuring it might come a little higher since it's an estimate. After sending out for the wrong brake pads TWICE, she tells me the bill is $362.90. When I argue, she tries to tell me she said it was $160 per set. There's no way I misheard her. I knew what I could afford. If she had told me it was upwards of $300, I'd have waited a few days. AND, to top off this horrendous experience, the mechanic tried to tell me I needed brakes AND rotors or the brakes would pulsate horribly. But, guess what? Smoothest braking I've had and he never touched the rotors! So, in summary, these people are liars and thieves! DO NOT VISIT this place of business! read more

On the day of my appointment they took my car in right away and did the oil change. I was very satisfied that they prioritized appointments and didn't have to wait that long. I've been going to these guys for almost 10 years, starting back when I used to live much closer to them. I've kept going because, well, they're the first repair place that hasn't screwed me over. Yea, it's pricey, but so is every other auto place that actually does the work they say they're doing. They get their parts from auto part stores - they do not set the prices on that stuff and don't have control over it. You don't want to pay as much? Go buy your own parts and bring them in. I've done it before, and it can save a shitload of money. It's not a big deal to them because they don't make money on the parts anyway - labor is where the $$$ is for shops like this. Also, if you go to their website, they have various coupons available. In the time I've been going to these guys, I've brought in about 8 different vehicles for a plethora of work - exhaust, oil changes, radiator, brakes, tires, alignments, suspension work, routine maintenance. You name it, I've had it done. Each and every time, they have taken the time to explain to me what would be involved, how long it would take, and what each and every thing would cost. There have been repairs that were into the 4-figure range and totally not within my budget. Once I explained that, I was able to discuss with them what was absolutely necessary and what could safely be put off a little longer. I was never guilted into anything. I get the printed estimate and then have the option to go price-hunt. I always end up going back and getting the work done there. The guys working there are a little rough around the edges, but they know what they're doing when it comes to cars. read more

I used to go to this shop for regular repair jobs for my car because it's very close to my home. But a few times of engagements with them made me decide not to go there anymore because they would rip you off. The most important thing for me in selecting a auto shop is honesty. I know it's a hard commodify in this industry, but at least they should try and be 80% honest. But this Midas shop just wants to rob you. About a year ago, I went to the shop for a regualr fuel change. They told me that I needed a new battery, which would be something like $200. Since my car was only 3 years old, I took it with a grain of salt anad took it to Auto Zone and asked them to take a test on my battery. Auto Zone told me that my battery was perfectly fine. And I am still driving with my original battery right now. A few months ago, I took my car to Midas again for brake service. They changed the brake pads and drums on the 2 rear wheels for about $350 and suggested to change them for the front wheels too, for about $450. I didn't do it. A few days later I took it to another shop to have the front wheels changed with $250 - $200 cheaper than Midas! With these kinds of tricks, they may pull it a few times. But I will never use their shop anymore. read more

I am skeptical about places like this as it have been lied to about work I need done on my car before, and this place was not any better. While getting an oil change, I talked to the man at the desk about how I hate being lied to by mechanics and he said how he hates that too, and how they get paid salary there, and not by the work they do so they don't have to lie about work cars need. Then he processed to tell me That i needed all of this work done, including new tires, breaks, Roters, new Wipers, and air filter. He said my tires were so bald they were dangerous, and my brakes were in really bad shape too. After his whole speech, I told him I literally just changed the air filter 3 Days prior. I had a complete diagnostic test performed on my car to determine if it is worth keeping or replacing. The owner Nick was very honest and helpful in helping me assess this decision. Rather than encourage my decision for mega repairs, he clearly explained the most important ones if I want to keep the car for a while and the additional repairs needed in the near future. The total cost of the work needed is higher than the value of my car. Therefore, I will be replacing it with a new car. I greatly appreciate the owner Nick and his mechanic's considerable time defining the issues to help me make a good decision. I went in for an oil Change using an advert from Groupon. I have no complaints. The waiting area was clean; the bathroom was also clean. There were cookies and pretzels available for snacks. I was in and out in about an hour, and they didn't try to sell me on some nonsense additional services; they just took the Groupon and changed the oil. read more
