Be careful here women alone with the new ownership. get second opinion. I have gone here for years and trusted Ernie, but things are different now. I went in for an oil change and left 5 hours later with a $1900 bill. Among the charges was $600 for an oil pan replacement. The pan was rusted, but had no leaks. This is the first oil pan I have ever replaced, even on old cars. I should have gotten a second opinion. i suspect that it was just surface rust. While waiting, I heard them offer a $5 credit for a 5 star review. read more

So my fan was making an awful noise so I brought my truck in. It was not running hot and not leaking any fluids. I got under the truck to make sure pulleys were not loose and fan wasn't before I took it. The pulleys were fine but the fan had some movement in it so I was pretty sure that was the issue. I dropped it off on Monday and they said they couldn't look at it until Tuesday am I said that's fine I rented a car. So I heard nothing from them on Tuesday. I called Wednesday and was like um what's happening with my truck. So they finally got back to me and said it's the radiator. It was leaking all over and split in half. Mind you like I said earlier nothing was leaking and it wasn't running hot. So they ended up taking parts of my truck off that were aftermarket to fit the new radiator they put in. The lady said said they could get it done by this weekend maybe take til Monday. I'm like absolutely not. I told you on Monday I had to have it back by Saturday because I am moving and need it to move my stuff. They said ok. So Saturday rolls around and I drop the rental off in a parking lot next door to make sure my truck was actually fixed before I returned it. I got it and went to start the truck and it's making the exact freaking noise it was when I brought it in. I was livid. So I go back in and am like um why is what I brought it in for not fixed. Pete came out and was like oh its the water pump but it's not leaking so it's fine for now. I'm like that noise is the whole reason I brought it in. It's really loud and obviously something is wrong with it. Then he said oh it's the fan it's warped. It's fine it won't hurt anything. So did the radiator actually need replacing who knows. So I drove it to work and returned the rental that I paid $450 for the week. Omw home from work at 11pm the brake light and battery light come then the power steering goes out so I know it's the serpentine belt. The fan was literallty hanging out of the truck. So I manage to make it back to midas to leave it. So at midnight I had to get an uber to go home. The next morning I have to uber to get another freaking rental because I have to move. It's Sunday so they aren't open. On Monday am I am at midas at 0800 to be like wtf man my truck is still broken. I have this rental til Wednesday at 1pm it better be fixed by then or were going to have big issues. He says oh yes maam we will make it right. So he calls me on Tuesday and tells me it's a bracket on the radiator it fell and then everything else failed. I'm like then fix it and I will pick it up at 1pm on Wednesday. I pick it up on Wednesday and miraculously no more noise from the fan. So far no issues. After I had to have a rental for 9 days and spent $850 on rental cars and ubers plus the $1000 to fix the truck. read more

Came in with a Groupon for a "full synthetic oil change.", but I don't think they used the right oil at all. While I was waiting, I saw the tech pumping oil from a big tank. I asked him what it was -- he said "full synthetic." I took a pic of the tank. Later, I noticed it had two stickers: "Oilzum OZ34000" "Advantage Synthetic Blend" Looked both up when I got home. They're both synthetic blends. Not full synthetic. One even literally says "synthetic blend" right on the label. So I'm thinking... did they just pour in cheaper oil and assume I wouldn't notice? Oh, and guess what happened after? My check engine light came on. That's never happened after an oil change in my life. Makes me wonder if they skipped steps or just plain didn't know what they were doing. The receipt doesn't list the oil brand or any other details at all. Just says "full synthetic oil change." That's it. So even if I wanted to verify what they used -- I couldn't. I left feeling ripped off, frustrated, and honestly worried about what they put in my car. I won't be back, and if you care about your engine, you probably shouldn't either. read more

Friendly, efficient and professional. I had an oil change that I purchased on Groupon. I do not know a thing about the underside of a car, but was told they replaced a bunch of clips at no charge. The only negative was that I was there for close to an hour and a half. I noticed their sign states State Inspection Stickers for 20.00. That is half of the regular price anywhere else. !I wish I would have seen that before I got a sticker in July! read more

My family has been using this Midas location for a few years now, with oil changes, tire rotations and other small repairs. My 19 year old daughter was their last week for an oil change and the owner claimed that he did not know how she drove to his location with the brakes on her car, he highly recommended to get all 4 brakes down on the spot and even had that typed out on her receipt. We took her car to a family friend mechanic and our friend said "No way" maybe on next visit she car might need brakes, but definitely not the way the owner was claiming. Shame on you guys trying to take advantage of a 19 yr old girl, now you've lost our business and from our family and friends as well !! read more

I have used this midas since i got my car. Never had any issues until i went in there a few weeks ago. I was quoted a price on brakes, front and rear and restoral of my headlights. I scheduled for the following Tuesday and as i waited in the small waiting area i could hear yelling..."see you next Tuesday" repeated over and over. And then spelled out. C U N T. I confronted the owner when he came out. Told him what I heard. He only smiled.....I kept the appointment as I have always used them. I did call around however to compare prices, and they ran about the same. Well anyway when i had the work done the price was inflated. I was very upset and the owner did honor the original quote. However he did go on to treat me as though i was incompetent. Long story short, after a complaint to corporate he did call me. Only to say he wasnt the one using that language. Don't go there if you don't know cars. I brought my car in for an oil change with a coupon that included tire rotation and system checks. They told me my vehicle was not eligible for the coupon because my car will not accept "their kind of oil." Never heard THAT all the other times I had an oil change at other places. And, of course, their kind of oil was more expensive. I didn't know how to discuss it with them, couldn't reach car friends at the time. They did agree to do the tire rotation and other checks, but charged me the higher amount for their oil. They're not big on customer service messaging or politeness. Ernie and his crew at Plaistow MIDAS are the GOLD STANDARD!!!!!! I never appreciated the privilege of being the daughter of a mechanic until I grew up and moved 4 states away. My dad did ALL of the work on my cars when I lived in New Jersey. When I moved to MA (22 years ago) I had to find someone to work on my cars. I went through tons of shops, including some dealerships, and discovered a shamefully dishonest sub-class of so-called "professional" mechanics. Guys who put their arm around me and told me they wouldn't let their own daughter drive out of the shop without "this repair"......like a timing belt for a car that did not even have one. The final straw was after repeated to trips to a reputable local dealership (where we bought the car) for constant re-sets on our tire sensors. Each time, they cheerfully re-set the sensors after the warning lights popped on, reassuring us there was not one thing wrong with them, but that they were "sensitive"....until one day when they told us that they were actually defective and ALL of them had to be replaced. Coincidentally, this was less than 8 weeks AFTER the warranty ran out. Ernie was our last best hope and we COULD NOT FEEL LUCKIER to have found him and to have given him the chance to service our cars. I'm embarrassed to say that in my early visits, I consulted with my dad over the phone about every recommendation or estimate that Ernie gave me (usually right in front of him), but we've now been going there for so long and have learned what an INCREDIBLY HONEST person he is that we skip the step about calling my dad (although, to Ernie's credit, he always asks how he is doing!!!). Ernie has been in this business for a LONG TIME. He KNOWS cars and MECHANICS. He EMPLOYS outstanding professionals who stay current with their skills and the every changing world of mechanics.
