Yesterday around 4:50pm, I was unable to service my car (for oil change & tire rotation) at Sears - Gurnee Mills... Used YELP and took a chance with Midas - Gurnee Mills... They were accommodating (in at 5:10p and out by 5:55p - lucky me) & professional. Allowed me to see undercarriage of car; need new shocks & ball joints - received a fair quote. Most likely to return to these guys to repair my car. By the by - Midas sold synthetic oil change less than Sears; savings too! I was very satisfied. read more

I was traveling down to Illinois to visit a friend on a Saturday afternoon, when my car started making a horribly loud noise. I arrived at my friend's house after all the shops were closed. So, I was really excited to see Midas was open on Sunday, but I was nervous due to all the bad reviews and having been taken advantage of my other shops because I am a woman. However, I did not have a choice. I needed to get back home on Sunday. I was pleasantly surprised at the great customer service that I received. Tom, the store manager, really put my mind at ease right away with his knowledge and concern for my situation. Before doing any of the work, he called me to explain the issue in detail and gave me a quote. The quote was higher than I was hoping, but it fell in line with industry standards. He heard the hesitation in my voice about the price and worked with the tech to do everything they could to keep the price as low as possible, including applying coupons left behind by the last customer and giving me my oil change that I had requested for free. I made it home safe and sound (and not as broke as expected) thanks to Tom and his team. I highly recommend them! read more

Took my car in due to a loud "chirping" noise. They replaced the water pump. Almost $700 later, car is still making the loud noise. I return immediately after driving away and tell them the noise is still there. The technician takes it for a drive and says, "That's brake noise." Now wouldn't you think that Midas should be able to diagnose a brake issue prior to going for the water pump? The water pump likely didn't need to be touched (said it took a stethoscope to hear a noise in the water pump, but it's there). Now, I'm angry. They offered to repair the rear brakes without charging labor, but it's still $300 on top of what I've already spent. I'm out of time, patience, and money and, at this point, I don't trust that they know cars any better than I do. Felt like a deliberate scam from my end. Excellent customer service! I was a little leary of going to Midas because of a pass bad experience with the franchise. Here I recieved great service. Rob took the time to explain to me what was wrong with my vehicle. He even took me to the back to show me the exact problem. The time for repair was reasonable as well as the price. I paid a lot less than I would have at the dealership plus the diagnositc fee was absorbed into the price of repair. This will be my go to place for repairs for now on! read more

This place is a rip off. They charge more then the dealer and install low quality Chinese parts. I took my vehicle there for a wheel bearing noise. They replaced the wheel bearing it seemed okay for awhile. About a month later it started making noise again. This time decided to take to the dealer. They told me that the wheel bearing that they replaced was making noise and would need to be replaced again. I ask them what would cause it to fail so soon.. They said cheap parts or in-proper installation.. So out of curiosity i decided to look up the part number for the wheel bearing on my receipt. It came up as a cheap auto zone wheel bearing. They told me i was going to get some original equipment equivalent.. They lied! I had the dealer replaced the wheel bearing and it was $280.00 cheaper then Midas. read more

I called on 03/03/13 at 11:00 A.M. to get an estimate for 1 tire change. I was put on hold for 10 mins and then hung up on. I called again and spoke to the same person, by the name of Jason. He said "Yeah the guy who can give you that is not here and I'm fit to get off at 3 P.M. I can't help you". I wouldn't put my car in the hands of people who don't seem to like their job and can't be polite to people who are making them money.. but that's just me. read more

Where do I begin? I recently went into Midas Gurnee for an oil change and after looking at my car an hour later they called to inform me that I needed new struts and tires... They quoted me over $2800. I went picked up my car and told them I'd be getting a second opinion. They seemed very surprised by my response, they probably figured because I was a young female I would just take their word and trust their quote. Today, I was able to bring my car into my family mechanic and they spent over an hour checking out everything on my car and said nothing was wrong with it. My tires are practically new and my struts show no damage. There is not a doubt in my mind that the workers at Midas in Gurnee saw a young female walk in for an oil change and thought they could easily make more money off of me. The coupons they send out to you are a scam to get you to come in so they can find something else you don't actually need and charge you for. I would never recommend Midas to anyone and will never bring any car into a Midas ever again. read more

in july we went in to get a new muffler. they brought the car in the garage and without even looking at it or doing any diagnostic checks, jenny tells us we need a new engine, then she say wait you just need a new car. me and my girlfriend looked at each other in disbelief. so we left and called back about a half hour later to tell them to just put the new muffler system on. the did that and natalie calls us and says jenny made mistake the car sounds great with the new muffler system so you dont need a new engine or car. so in october i decide to give them another chance and go back for emission issues. jenny is the one taking care of us again. she was rude and unprofessional. natalie tells us our car is making noise because it needs new coils, without even looking at it. this is their theme, make assumptions without looking at it. we just needed emission isssues fixed. we were there for 3 hours! no estimate. they didnt know what was wrong. most of the employees were huddled in the back of the garage listening to metallica on a very loud radio. they didnt spend hardly any time working on any cars. this was the worst experience ever. we will never go back to any midas ever again. and we were charged $120 for labor for absolutely nothing! oh and jenny brings out pics on her phone of parts of the car engine that need to be fixed. what are we going to do with pics of the parts. we are not mechanics. just give me an estimate and fix it. unprofessional ,and rude. and then the store owner calls and says well she has her story and you have yours. no refund nothing!!. read more

I have brought my two SUVS there for service several times and this is the last time. My SUV had to be jump started one morning and Midas installed the battery about five years ago it has a six year warranty. So I dropped the vehicle off thinking the battery was shot. Once the car was jump it started right up and it ran find no lights dimming no warning messages. Jenny help me, she told me it is the alternator only had 10 amps. I doubted that and she said it would be $650 to replace YEA RIGHT! I called Ford and told what MIDAS said and Ford told me if the alternator only was outputting 10 amps the vehicle would not run and the battery light would be on. They say they could replace the alternator for $420 with a FORD alternator. So I told Jenny I would go to Ford instead. She wanted to know why I told her because of the price difference. Then Jenny calls me make back saying she can do the work for the same price. I said forget it. So drive it over to Ford and they found the plates in the battery moved and it shortened out, I JUST NEEDED A NEW BATTERY, the alternator was working fine. SO Midas tried to sell me an alternator for $650 that would of done NOTHING, JENNY was going try to sell me a cheap aftermarket alternator for $420 not a FORD alternator. Also, previously they put pads and rotors on the same vehicle and the JUNK rotors warped in one year. I AM DONE WITH MIDAS and JENNY KNOWS NOTHING!!!!!! GO TO FORD YOU CAN GET WORK DONE FOR THE SAME PRICES AND A TWO YEAR WARRANTY. read more
