At a soccer tournament out of town with my son when my van decides to die on a Sunday afternoon. Had my van towed here and got another night at a hotel. We called first thing Monday morning and explained what was going on. They called us back within a hour with an estimate and within 3 hours we were on our way back home. They were so nice! On my way to work, I stopped to your location to get an oil changed, on 05-01-20 so an oil change was given, when I got home the car was leaking oil, so I waited til next day and still leaking. I went back on 05-4-20 and I was told the the oil pan was cracked. When I brought it to your location, you inspected the vehicle before the oil changed and it was never mentioned to me about my pan being cracked. Today I went back to your location, and I was told that it would be a $500.00 dollar fix, this is your error. I did not come in with a cracked pan. I was told today 05-04-20 that the pan is old and rusted and that's why it was leaking, how can you not detect this after inspecting the car before the oil change. I am attaching a picture of the Oil Pan, and from the picture you can really tell its rusted how come your team did not detect this if car was inspected. read more

They weren't able to work on my car due (normal for VW) to unable to accessibility to the computer system. They still made sure I was safe to drive off and checked the critical issue I was worried about. They explained what the issue might be (computer related) and what steps to do get it addressed. Everyone was patient and explained things without being condescending or patronizing. Everyone was super kind, friendly and very knowledgeable. Definitely a place I'd recommend for anyone! read more

We can all agree nobody looks forward to having to get an oil change, but this Midas location makes it simple to book, and comfortable to wait. I booked my appointment on the Midas website, and as expected within 2 business hours it was confirmed. I was out running errands and near the location, so I dropped off my car even through I was 30 minutes early. They said it would make 90 minutes, which I didn't complain about because I was 30 minutes early and expected it would make an hour. Well, somehow the magicians at this location had me out the door in 30 minutes. I was leaving by the time my appointment was scheduled. Maybe I just got lucky, but the staff there is very friendly the waiting room comfortable, and they do a greats job. While I don't look forward to my next oil change, I know I will have a great experience here! FYI they also handle Fleet/company cars (which mine happens to be). read more

Do NOT accept their estimate without getting another. I arrived with an estimate from the Lexus dealer and let them know ahead of time what needed fixed. They still tried to tell me the fix would cost $1800 (more than the dealer quoted). The same day, I went to a local guy and had it repaired in less than an hour for $520. These guys are crooks that try to tell you there are problems... even when you walk in with an estimate from the DEALER! SHAME SHAME SHAME!!! read more

I thought I'd give this Midas one last try. I won't be back. The last time I was here I was helped by the same guy, Josh H. He lies. I CANNOT tolerate lies from my mechanic. I will be taking my business elsewhere and I suggest anyone who values honesty does the same. During my last visit I had asked for the inspection with my oil change. When I got home and looked at the paperwork I realized I didn't have the Inspection sheet. I called to see if they had it. Josh said "yeah its right here we spilt oil on it so we didn't want to give you a dirty sheet" I asked if he could copy it to a clean one and I could pick it up the next day. When I stopped in I was informed that based on there records they didn't do the inspection. That I hadn't requested to have it done. This was Josh's first LIE to me that I knew of. On Jan. 9th I brought in my car for an oil change and a headlight replacement. Josh helped me again. He talked to me about how slow it was because of the weather. I made a point to make sure he knew I wanted the inspection and left it in their hands. When I picked it up he didn't have the inspection sheet again. He said to me that he was short guys so he didn't have them do it. LIE #2 Before I left it with them he told me they were slow. Which is it Josh? Now for the head light. I had try to replace the bulb but when I installed a new one the lights wouldn't turn on at all. I assumed I was doing something wrong and so I figured they could pop one in better than I could. I had inspected my other lights while trying to fix the one that was out. The headlight was the only problem. Josh mentioned he "replaced an indicator for free because one of mine were out" I had just inspected them earlier so I knew this was LIE #3 When I paid and headed home I realized my headlight was still out. How do you not take the time to inspect a repair to a headlight? All you have to do is look at it to see if it works. I went back and Josh said he would take a look at it that "it was just working". After a few moments he came back and said that the bulb was turning on and then immediately burning out. This was LIE #4 let me tell you why. I took my car to an honest mechanic, I.D. Auto Service, and he actually fixed the light. The problem was the wiring. There was no way for the light to "Turn on and burn out" I will be taking my business elsewhere and I suggest anyone who values honesty does the same read more

Came to midas for the first time today to get a rear break replacement. Talked to Dan first thing in the morning, he got me in later that afternoon. Job took longer than expected, about 4 hours but staff was friendly and upfront. They told me what I needed and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need which is appreciated. I was also given a loaner car which helped me to run errands while my car was being worked on. That was awesome. Will most likely be back to this location. read more

I had $1200 worth of work done at Midas in Gurnee, including brakes. I made an appointment to come back, due to a squeal in the brakes. When I did, I was treated rudely and made to wait two hours while other customers were helped. Adding to the problem, the "mechanic" who had my car left it in accessory mode which ruined the battery. I had to push hard for a new one.One of the managers, Mike, said the owner could be reached only by email from their location. However, that turned out to be untrue. I was able to get the owner on the phone and explain the situation.I now have a new battery. read more

This location is not friendly or helpful. A cold spell hit and I needed air in my tires. I stopped in and asked for a favor-I was willing to pay for someone to put air in my tires. Nope, too busy. Really? It takes 2 minutes to do this. It would not of hurt anyone to help a 70 year old woman out. I live alone and don't know how to do this myself. While he was polite in rejecting my request, he wouldn't help me out. I wonder how he would feel if someone wouldn't help his mother out in a bind. Will never go there for anything. I brought my car to the Gurnee Midas for repairs. At the time it had 60k miles and being a Hyundai Elantra, required a Scheduled Maintenance done at this very mileage, including a Timing Belt replacement. Midas however didn't say a word about it. A couple of months later I found out about what Midas missed, confirmed on the Hyundai website and had to have it done at another shop. I am under the impression that Midas techs aren't very knowledgeable about a scheduled Maintenance. Granted on most other cars the Timing Belt needs to be replaced at somewhere close to 100k miles; however it is 60k on my car. How could they miss this crucial information? I'd rather they double-checked instead of assuming. I am very disappointed and am not coming back. read more

This review is long overdue but nevertheless I didn't forget!! This particular location is worthy of 5 stars for several reasons. After discovering a nail in my tire upon leaving 6 flags, I did not feel comfortable driving the 45 minutes home and risk a flat. Being 6:30pm, time was running out and EVERY tire place I called in the 5 mile radius was either closed and/or unable to assist me. But Adan (manager on duty) told me to come right on in. Even though they closed in 30 minutes, they took me in, removed the nail, patched the hole and I was out the door by 7!! Such great customer service! What a horrible experience . I made the mistake of bringing my car in for an oil change on Saturday at 12:30 , I had an appointment,,,, I specifically joe soon they would call me with their evaluation , and I was told about an hour . I waited until 2:40 , no call from Midas , so I called them . At that point , I was told they were just finishing up the inspection and would call me shortly ,,, They did not call me with their evaluation until 2:50,called me at 3:50 to tell me the car was ready , but at no time in either conversation , did they mention they close at 4,,,,. So of course , I show up to pick up my car at 4:30 to discover that a $ 40 oil change resulted in my car being locked up !!!!!!! Unfourtunately, I have to update my review. My husband and I have brought between 4 and 6 cars here for service. The service we have received to this point has been excellent and has kept us coming back, after our last encounter, however, I don't think we will bother returning. My teenage son has started driving and we bought him a little car to get around in. We have had him reach out to Midas for service three times now and for some reason he is being treated horribly. Jenny, who he seems to make initial contact with every single time, just does not want to help him. This last encounter, Jenny flat out refused to see him and only relented after my husband called to insist that we be served. I hoped that Jenny was just having a bad day - or these incidents were isolated, but this is strike 3. My son is polite, mannerable, and most importantly - a customer when he interacts with Jenny and Midas personnel. Why he is not entitled to the same level of customer service as everyone else I don't know. He is a working young man and we, his parents, have advised him to spend his hard earned dollars with Midas. We have him take care of business with his new car on his own to teach him how to function in this world and now he will learn how to deal with poor customer service and places that do not want his business/money for whatever reason. read more

They noticed my air filter was dirty, the box was mislabeled so i had to come back the day after for the right filter(down a star for that) but when i came back 2 days later the front desk girl, Natalie, remembered i had a baby (who was asleep when we got there) and met me outside to let me know that we can stay in the car and pop the hood!! I wanted to thank the team (don't know the mechanics name) that was working on Friday 8/21. My wife and kids went to the water park and as they left my wife noticed she had no brakes. She pulled into Midas, spoke to a gentleman who suggested she wait 20 minutes and he would look at the car as she had an hour drive and he did not think it would be safe. Turns out she had a ruptured rear brake line. He fixed it in about an hour which is amazing and it was very reasonably priced. I was out of town at the time and truly appreciate this person taking care of the situation and helping out my family. After using Gurnee Midas for more than a decade, I had my car serviced this week. When I came in today to settle up, I discovered they had left my car unlocked. My vehicle was ransacked and had many personal items stolen including my garage door opened. When I told this to the manager all he said was sorry. I brought my '02 Cougar v6 2.5 in today for an oil leak and a CV boot replacement. They informed me that my oil pan gasket needed changing. They changed that and the CV boot very fast. No complaints there whatsoever! They did overcharge me for the labor on the oil pan gasket. They quoted me for 3.1 hours, but online I found it was actually 1.4. They double checked there computer and corrected it to 1.9. So no complaints there either. One small complaint that I DO have, though, is there serious up charge on there parts. At autozone, and O'reilly, the gasket was about $24. They charged me $66. And the CV axle was $79, they charged me $120. Not a huge deal... but a bit annoying. The manager, Steve, was a big help. He corrected the labor time problem immediately. I was originally quoted $583, and ended up paying $440 after the fix, (about $100), and a discount. Overall, they did very well. Parts are a little overpriced... but in the end they did do the work quick and good. The car is fixed and back on the road in 4 hours. No complaints there! I will be returning. -Jeff read more

STAY AWAY FROM MULLER HONDA! Don't be impressed by the big clean dealership and logo. You'll be paying for it. Their mechanics are no better than most other shops and often display no skilled tradesman experience. In my past I worked as a trusted and respected auto mechanic, a service manager, a general manager and owned an auto repair shop. Hence, I know what I'm talking about when it comes to servicing vehicles. While away in California and not familiar with repair shops in Gurnee I instructed my girl friend to take her Honda Pilot to Muller where she purchased it for a brake check. What a nightmare that was. Five days later the car was towed to Midas of Gurnee. Josh and his associates at Midas saved us from the horrid bandits at Muller, (including management). In two hours Midas simply inspected the brakes with honesty and restored them to factory like condition with no "bad news call" from Josh. BTW, Midas found Muller had installed a rebuilt brake part without informing my girl friend. She paid for the bill relying on their total honesty and workmanship which there was none. The brakes failed her the next morning. Face it people, we all know honesty is the first thing on your mind when you walk into an auto repair shop. read more

They told me why my warranty for my tires (not even 1yr old) weren't covered before they even looked at them. 1st I was told it was because I didn't have a wheel alignment and I did with paperwork to prove it. 2nd they tried telling me I had bad parts on my vehicle even tho I had a full inspection from Midas with the paperwork to prove it again.. and then they proceeded to tell me they must have made a mistake and they wouldn't cover my tires under warranty. I really cannot say enough good about how the new management has turned things around at this site. About 6 months before them, I had brought one of my vehicles if for a muffler replacement. I had to bring our vehicle back at least 3 times and the issue was still not resolved until I brought it into the new shop. It cook them a couple of times to figure out exactly what the problem was, fair enough, but they soon figured it out and the exhaust is better than it ever was after the previous repairs and, of course, all under the company's warranty with no out-of-pocket expenses following the initial repair. Josh and his team were simply outstanding. I was honestly taken back at how genuinely kind and concerned Josh was regarding our issue. He was professional, accommodating, and ultimately got the job done. My confidence in Midas of Gurnee has been restored, thanks to Josh and the new crew. read more

Great service...until there was a problem. Got a quick oil change and the guys helped when my son had a flat tire. They repaired/replaced the tire and recommended rotation for the rear 2 tires. Days later the hubcaps on both rear tires fell off. Luckily, we found the hubcaps, but both inside spring wheels were missing. No wonder they fell off! Our son stopped by to pick them up. Not only do they NOT have the parts, they claim to have NEVER seen them! They offered to order parts for my son....$50 for the pair and he could pay for them?! Update: Midas contacted me personally after I posted a review about my son's experience. I can honestly say that I have not had such a great response to a problem in a long, long time! Thank you Larry! Larry listened to my son's story and fully resolved the issue for us. We have new hubcaps and our faith in Midas is restored! Serviced my wife's car just recently. My first and definitely last experience with this shop was terrible and scary at the same time. They replaced the brakes and did not properly put on one of the wheels and looked like they only screwed two of the screws. This speaks for itself. They had to hire towing services and get the car back to fix. I will not be going back and will not let them touch my car never ever again. I consider myself very lucky that this wheel didn't fell off during the drive. read more

Went in yesterday for an oil change appointment. It comes with a fluid check and tire rotation. After nearly an hour, they come out and ask if I know where my wheel key is. I tell them where it is. 20 minutes later my car is done and pulled around to the front. They didn't find the wheel key so they didn't do the rotation and even tried to tell me why I didn't want one. I'd already been there over an hour with my 4 year old so I left. This morning I get in the car and my TPM light is on. So either I blew a tire on my way home from Midas or they didn't check my tire pressure. So I open the glove box to see if the wheel key is where I said it was. Yep, right there the whole time. I call to make sure they can rotate the tires and look at them without a wait and head over. While there I mention several times that the TPM light is on and be sure to check the tires. As I receive my keys back for the second time I two days I ask if there is anything wrong with a tire. Nope, they topped em all off, nothing that would indicate a hole in a tire. So I drive home assuming they completed the job. But my TPM light never goes off. Drive it for an hour, still doesn't go off. So I call them back again. They continue to insist they did the work. I don't doubt they did - they just didn't do it right. So two trips to Midas and I still had to inflate my own tires in my cold driveway. read more

My appointment wasn't honored, I think I sat there for over 2 hours on a weekday mid-day and then supposedly they couldn't get the oil filter out.... which is interesting because I have a pretty common, 1 year old SUV that has had the filter changed a time or 2 already. No matter who works on my vehicles, I seem to always be very happy at this particular Midas. I receive honest answers to my questions and the service is great. It starts at the top with Jenny. We have used this place since 2004 and have been extremely happy. Loved the old management and the customer service that came along with it. They changed management a few years ago and it was for the worse! We still went to them anyway because they were convenient. The final straw was several months ago - we took our car in for an oil change and when we got it back there was oil everywhere! Steering wheel, door, seat, visor, roof, etc. Good thing it was a Sunday and I was wearing older clothes. I realized when I got home and had oil all over my clothes. My husband called and talked to the manager the next day. They offered to detail our car (they would clean it). Ugh, no thanks. We took it to another shop and had the work done at our expense. I made an appointment on Friday to have my muffler fixed on Sunday at 11am. I arrived at my appointment time and dropped off my vehicle to have it worked on. I get a call at 2pm and was given a quote which was doubled of what I was told from the last time I was there. I understand that prices for parts may change over time and other factors may be added to a "quote". The gentleman from the shop then tells me that unfortunately they will not be able to fix my vehicle that day since they close at 3 and will not be able to have the part in time. I felt frustrated because I had made an APPOINTMENT and I feel that they should have had the part on hand. Also, I don't think it should have taken 3 hours just to do an inspection.
