I have come to learn an event like that (rather clearly) points to a faulty oil-pressure regulator/relief valve or related oil pump issue--not just a loose or improperly installed filter as they advised me. And they advised me as such despite the fact the filter was installed nearly 6 months ago and had been just fine with no leaks. They simply blamed it on my usual mechanic for somehow "crushing" the gasket during installation at my last oil change, even though it would be nearly impossible for a filter to contain oil pressure for that long (if at all) if the gasket was somehow pushed outside of its groove during install. Every other mechanic I've discussed this with as I shopped around for engine replacement quotes has said as much, that this was obviously the result of an oil pressure spike caused by a faulty oil pump / pressure release valve, and warranted a far more thorough inspection beyond degreasing the engine bay and replacing the filter. Mundelein Automotive did not perform (or explain) a hot mechanical oil-pressure test, did not caution me against driving until pressure was verified, and did not advise checks for timing correlation/chain tensioner health that depend on proper oil pressure. The timing chain tensioner, along with other critical engine components, are hydraulically operated. And if they don't get proper oil pressure, the engine can (and did) self-destruct. I was told it was fine to continue driving. Result: The car drove okay until suddenly after ~150-200 miles when the engine rapidly went from a light tick to harsh clunking while on the expressway, and then failed. I'm now facing an engine replacement. Why this matters: A reasonable diagnostic path here would have included (1) verifying actual oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, (2) confirming correct oil-filter spec and ruling out a stuck pressure-relief valve, and (3) listening/scanning for early timing-chain correlation faults. At a minimum, I should have been clearly warned not to drive until oil pressure was verified. None of that happened for me. Bottom line: Friendly people, but in my case the critical diagnostics and communication fell short, and I paid the price. I won't be back, and I can't recommend them at all. Their substandard expertise and attention to detail has resulted in me being out the cost of installing an entirely new engine.

Rob and Rick are amazing…read more Needed the hood emblem replaced because the old one flew off somehow while driving down Milwaukee a couple weeks ago. The unnamed local dealership quoted me a minimum of $565 over the phone to replace, stating the cost of the emblem was $65 plus $500 for labor because it would take a couple hours to take the whole grill off and put it back on. When I questioned this they suggested bringing it in so they could look and confirm. Right away he said it would be so much work and jot sure what else they would find. Needless to say I brought it to Rob who quoted me a 4th of the price as the dealership. In the end it cost $55 and they literally popped the emblem back on in 30 seconds! I am grateful for their honesty!
