This place and especially Igor just saved me $3,000! I was told by the Audi dealership that I needed to replace my passenger seat and airbag sensor (as it failed). I was told that the dealer was the only place that can perform this work. Igor picked up my Audi and within hours, I received a call that the issue was fixed! I've been repairing my cars at AutoDome repair shop in Waukegan for many years. Recently, when I had my car at the dealer for oil change, I was told by that I urgently need to replace my rear brakes, which is typically quite expensive there. As always, I decided to get a second opinion from mechanic of my favorite repair shop. They've been very honest with me over the years and always did things only which were required. The same thing happened today at Autodome. After the mechanic looked at my brakes, I was told that I still have at least 30% to go. They could've charged me and repaired them now, but why would I spend the money now if I still have about 30% of life left in current brakes? I was referred to Igor and his team long ago by my boyfriend (now husband) who had been taking his vehicles to Igor for years, and I must say we will not ever take our vehicles anywhere else if at all possible. We moved out of state in 2018 and really missed being able to take our vehicles to him because he is always so honest and reliable and we never had to worry about anything. I've debated for weeks about whether to post, but in thinking about others, I've decided to go ahead. Igor and the employees I encountered at AutoDome are lovely people: personable and pleasant. I also believe that they are well-intentioned and fundamentally honest. Unfortunately, I will never do business with them again. This shop is located on the back-side of a seedy looking used car lot and auto auction. The building and street looks like something out of a third world country--think Afghanistan or rural India. Both the office and the shop are a disorganized mess, with piles of stuff everywhere. They really do appear to do mechanical work as a sideline and are primarily a body shop. If you need you car repaired mechanically--rather than a fender replaced--take your business elsewhere. Rather than go into a narrative, let me just forth the following: 1.) It took nine days for them to acquire and install a power steering pump for a Dodge Neon. 2.) Got the car back with something in the vicinity of the power steering pump screeching. 3.) I fixed the part they claimed was making the noise (idler bracket). They were wrong. 4.) They were non-communicative about what was going on--I would have to call them. 5.) Got my car back filthy because it sat exposed in a dirt lot for 9 days. 6.) To be honest, I would not leave my car overnight unless they agree to keep it inside. The good news in all this is I discovered Gonzales Muffler & Brake (between Grand and 41). Their repair rate is $80 per hour and you can bring in your own parts which they will install without a surcharge. This specific location is clean, upscale, and well run, with an attentive, engaged Manager with about 40 years as a working mechanic. read more

I live about 20 minutes from Waukegan but I'd travel hours to take my car to Auto Dome! Actually the owner Igor let's me drop my car at his home and he takes it to Waukegan. Yesterday I left my car for four tires and a tune up. Today I got a call from the mechanic and of course I expected that the call was going to be bad news and cost me more money!
