Wow! What an incredible individual Dale is! We were on our way to Indiana when my husband's truck started acting strange and went into crawl mode. We searched everywhere close enough to get to and ended up calling Dale, who agreed to see us soon. Dale went outside and did all the diagnostics on our truck and showed my husband everything while he did it. He was incredibly honest and told my husband it was most likely a fluke electrical issue and that we were okay to continue driving. He didn't even want to charge us for the help! Setting up an appointment by phone was a snap. The owner, Dale, took my car into the garage and into an available 2-post lift. He was helpful when I needed assistance, but otherwise I handled the tasks of and oil & filter change, tire rotation, and engine air filter replacement myself. This place was a GODSEND! I needed to do some underbody work on my 1964 Ford Fairlane to fix some leaks before sending it in for custom interior work. I searched far and wide for anywhere that would rent out bays/lifts but there is absolutely nothing where I live (Wheaton) and I'm not about to pay a mechanic to up charge me on routine maintanence. After a quick Google search I found out about I Can Fix This in Gurnee. I called immediately and reserved a bay. When we got their Dale, the owner, was super friendly and funny. He got us in right away and we got to work. Dale had some other work he was doing but was never too busy to lend a hand, give advice, or grab us some parts. Also he had a local car parts store deliver a part for us so we didn't have to leave to get it. We got all of our work done and I couldn't be happier. I really wish Dale would open a shop in the west suburbs! The price is very reasonable and you'll be surrounded by friendly folks all willing to help out and talk, plus you get to hang with Dale. No matter where you're at its worth the trip if you want to do your own work for muh cheaper than going to a mechanic, although if you're a novice Dale is always willing to do the work for you (for a fee). This place is GREAT. I had a price for a repair of my muffler at $750. Another from Midis to repair muffler pipe at $250. went to Napa and got a patch kit and went here and repaired the hole in the muffler pipe for $5.00 for repair kit and $28 to rent the lift bay for one hour. Did the fix in 15 minutes. Saved a ton of money and Dale let me use some grinder tools to prepare surface for patch. GREAT place and I strongly recommend it to anyone with limited ability to do the work. read more

I am not from the area, and was driving on the Tri State toll way when my water pump went out , I pulled off the road looked up yelp and found " I can fix this" , so off I went, The owner is a real nice guy, and he fixed my car the same day and I was off in a few hours. The owner even bought my 10 year old grand nephew a gum ball out of the gum ball machine. From the out side, the place does not look like much, and when you walk in you may not be greeted right away. Just went here for the first time. I had gone to the dealership for a recall and they also suggested some repairs. I bought the parts myself and made an appointment with Dale over the phone. He confirmed what the dealership had said and walked me through what I'd be doing. I'm still kind of a novice, but Dale was really kind and made me feel comfortable. There were a couple snafus during the process. One bolt was really long and couldn't be backed out. Dale gave it a shot when I got stuck, and then told me how to remove the engine mount to get the bolt out. I also had to cut two bolts in the sway bar link cause they were rusted shut. I started to do the cutting, then Dale finished it because I was worried about accidentally cutting through the sway bar. I had a lot of fun I'm already planning to go back in a few days to replace my rear brakes and rotors. While I was there I also had a chance to see Dale interact with a few other people. He was super nice and very helpful to everybody. Lots of different skill levels and he worked great with all of them. read more

This place lets you rent a repair bay with lift for a very reasonable price. Bay rental also includes all of the tools you'd need. I came here to do some basic maintenance on my Honda (brakes, transmission fluid). I've done brakes before, but it was about 9 years ago and my memory was rusty. I couldn't have done it without the assistance of the owner, Dale. He is a huge asset. He genuinely likes working on cars, and he spent over an hour coaching me to make sure things got done right (and didn't charge me a dime for the extra help). I saved a ton of money versus taking my car to a repair shop. Seriously, if you can watch a youtube video and turn a wrench, you can work on your own car with a little help from Dale. read more

Idk much about cars, previous to this visit, the most I could do was change a tire and a tail light assembly. But this time my radiator cooling fan needed to be replaced. After being quoted ridiculous prices from other places I found "I can fix this" I looked up the instructions via YouTube on how to do it, pulled up, and got to work! At times I got a little stuck, or was unsure how to unplug something (it gets complicated being under a car) Don was right there to help. It took me 3hrs to complete the job! I went to this place because I wanted to replace the stabilizer links and to service the engine oil cooler (replace gasket ). I was quoted $300.00 in labor elsewhere and I was able to do all the work myself (With help from Dale) for less than 1/3. Dale was so helpful throughout the process and it felt great to work on my own car while having all the professional tools and help I needed. I was given the wrong filter by a guy at Advanced Auto Parts, but Dale ordered a replacement for me and it was delivered at the shop. I definitely will go back!! This place is fantastic. I brought my 2003 blue Ford Mustang in to do an engine and transmission oil change and the whole thing went very smoothly. Dale was extremely helpful and offered advice and assistance without being prompted. Keep in mind that the shop operates the lift for you. You have to ask them to move the car up and down instead of doing it on your own. I found this place here on Yelp and very glad I gave it a shot! The price is just right, especially if you have some pretty good knowledge of wrenching on cars but just need a proper space to do so. The lift and air tools are great, but I recommend bringing your own set of tools as well, as this place is a proper shop and not everything is organized, so might take you a while to find that socket you need. Had to replace the compression rod on my G35 because of a loose ball joint. Upon removing all the nuts and fasteners, the compression rod wouldn't come out. The compression rod bushing had rusted onto the stud. With Dale help and his torch we were able to break the bushing off the rusted stud and I was able to install my new compression rod. The knocking noise went away. Without Dale help I don't know how I would have been able to get the compression rod out. Will bring my cars there again for repairs. read more

I searched on line for a garage that would let you work on your own car. i found this business on yelp. there are not any other ones out there i could find. called and made an appointment. the owner was really helpful on the phone and even more helpful during my repair. i went originally to just replace the passenger cv half axle which had started to click (sign of failure). the owner, Dale, put the car up on the lift, showed me how it needed tie rod ends (a lot of play side to side when wheels were moved) and offered to order the parts to be delivered. i agreed. i am not an experienced mechanic and only had looked up how to replace the axle. Dale guided me through (did half) the tie rod replacement (could not have done it without him) and after that did a rough alignment, which is needed when tie rods are replaced. tools including impact tools are there available for you to use, even an inner tie rod tool, not something i even knew existed before i went there, not something a non mechanic would have, inner tie rod replacement job would be almost impossible without. very friendly atmosphere. great experience. highly recommend. very reasonably priced. read more
