I just moved into downtown Des Plaines and was in need of a new mechanic for my 2003 Solara. Despite its age the car is still in great shape and I would like to keep it that way. So I needed struts. I went in for a quote and Eric quoted me $2700ish. I had to wait for Pappas to send out the tax bills before I could spend that kind of money so I could still survive Xmas. Taxes paid, suddenly I have a check engine light accompanied by a bogging down coming out of a turn. Brought it in and they started on the struts and then found it needed a $150 engine check to find the problem. I approved and they found a small hole in a hose. They replaced for free. Total out the door $2900 with an oil change to boot. Spoke with the employees. Everyone loves working there. They get holidays and benefits. They like the owners! Needless to say, I have found the people who will care for my car and me. Also, with no way to pick up the car Eric drove to my place and picked me up in a 10 inch snow storm. read more

The whole process took about 5-6 hours but they were busy the day I stopped in. No complaints, job done correct and no noise or issues. I took my car to this Midas they did a full inspection recommending repairs for brakes oil filter and pan I opted for brake repairs. They finished I paid for the repairs then they decide to tell me after paying they hear a knock in my engine and it most likely needs to be replaced. I would have never gotten any repairs there if I knew my engine was going bad but they wanted my money before giving me this news. What a joke read more

I have been going to an auto shop down the street from here, but once they changed management I haven't been happy with the multiple changes they made. I am so glad that a coworker recommended this place. The manager Karlo was very attentive to my cars problems. After explaining that I thought it was my muffler, he asked to start my car so he could hear for himself. He then offered to drive me to my work which was several blocks away! About two hours later he called to let me know the issue and the total cost of repair. He also suggested that I get a CV boot replaced at a future time and sent me pictures of my leaking CV boot along with a picture of my other boot that wasn't leaking. Since I don't know cars this was very helpful to see and compare! It is obvious that Karlo truly values customer service as he went above and beyond in informing me of my cars needs and by taking care of me. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

This is a place where I always change my oil. Their prices are lowest in entire city. I use synthetic oil and cost my only $45 to do it in my car Hundai Accent. Every other place charge at least $60. Their service is quick and professional. I used to change oil in other places but since I came there I have been their customer since. Called for oil change appointment, Carlo said I'd have to drop car off around 11:00.He said They were busy, I asked nicely, is there anything sooner. He said alright bring it in at 10:00. The parking lot was empty and they were working on 2 cars, and 4 mechanics were there. Finally took my car, and later a mechanic comes get me. Car hood wouldn't open, I didn't know that was an issue till 15 minutes later. So I went to the back with mechanic, and surely the hood wasn't opening. I said something is wrong, I've never had an issue before. Young Man came out yelling all hyper "I need to start charging you per hour". He was so rude all jacked up, I'm not a little girl for him to yell at me. I said y'all must of done something to my car clutch. Then the old mechanic yelled and said "You think we would break your car?" I stayed quiet, and then the tall old mechanic said sorry for yelling at you, but we wouldn't break something in your car. Although he apologized, I was still upset and stayed quiet. The rudeness, they make it seem like they are the only mechanics in Des Plaines. I've learned in Life, It's not what you say to people, it's HOW YOU SAY IT. Plus why do your staff smoke cigarettes where cars are being worked on? In the garage itself the old tall mechanic was smoking, I've never seen that before at no other mechanic shops. I went home and told my husband and he was livid. He looked at the hood. All it needed was some WD40, and 2 minutes later the hood is open. Husband said what kind of crappy mechanics they got over there. Definitely we won't go there again, neither will my family. First off I'd like to say I use to enjoy coming here they were a great knowledgeable staff, but looks like they changed management once again! They have this new guy in front Eric with glasses I believe who doesn't know what customer service is and is in need of major training about people and cars, I had my car in the shop recently and I started to ask questions as to why my car needed the repairs he was telling me, instead of just explaining it to me he got so frustrated and extremely cocky and rude, he started to flare his arms around and scuff that I didn't want the repairs done and the fact I just wanted a oil change only, and then proceeded to tell me that safety isn't important to me it's obvious WTF!! First off it's my car my choice buddy! And second I have my own mechanic and wanted him to look it over before committing to any repairs being done, and to see if he could've saved me from the out of ballpark pricing you were giving me! Good grief $650 for front pads and rotors on a Malibu! I know a lot of people look down on chain stores, but I move around a lot and like to know that there is going to be a location that will be able to know my history and work with me. That's just me. And I'll pay extra to know that. More importantly, I've never had a bad experience with Midas. I might get mad that I keep having to come back, but I've never come back for the same problem. It's not their fault that I have a POS. My window managed to pop itself off of the track on the passenger side. As I drove down the street the darn thing began to fall into the door (better that than out of the car, right?) I rushed over to the local Midas and they were able to pull up all of my information and get started. They were also able to figure out the issue with my flashers. It cost $200, but they were so nice and helpful about the entire thing that I almost forgot how much money I won't have for food this month. Now that's customer service! read more

I had good experiences here a few times, but last week I was hit on (he was so distracted by my eyes I had to ask him to please focus on my car!) and lied to about my car. A quick second opinion showed that none of the things they wanted me to pay over a thousand dollars to fix needed fixing! I gave this location 5 stars. Brought my Toyota Corolla after Autozone diagnosed it as ''Bad Battery'' Fernando (Store Manager) was nice enough to help us. Gave him the key and he took my car to the inside of the shop. He then explain the price option. He also put power steering fluids because it's hard to stir when making turns. It's FREE. The waiting are is nice. Can sit around 10 people, various magazines on the table. It was really quick. No more than 10 minutes, it was all done. Fernando even took the car out by the exit door so we do not have to walk far. All in all, i had a wonderful experience with this store location. PS: If you are looking for the best car batter according to the expert, AC Delco is the only brand they carry! Superior in quality. For the batter there was a 2 years warrantee included. I have gone through 2 sets in only 42K miles. 2nd set of tire were prorated, since 1st set only had 12K miles on them. 2nd set had 30K miles on them. 3 out of 4 tires were bad now. I'm not going back a 3rd time for the same crappy bubble gum tires. They moved the other 3 managers they had here at this location. All 3 were terrific & knew my wife and I. Now, there's a cocky manager, who doesn't know his customers AT ALL!!!! We have been bringing both cars here for oil changes & repairs for 5 years. Let me first say that I have always had a positive experience at this particular Midas. They have always been super helpful and honest with me. I have multiple other Midas's closer to me but always bring my car here. I do want to give a specific shout out to Anthony who works there. The people are always nice and their prices are not to bad either. He was like yes of course , well took my car last week to align my tires and the guys says these tires were never rotated ! In 2011 the water pump on my 2001 Ford Taurus crapped out near here so I limped in to this place. I was charged $915 for water pump and timing belt. I still have the receipt. About a week ago and 70,000 miles later I had the same problem. I went to another place closer to my home and got the same thing done for $315. These guys are crooks and they took advantage of me. Do not go here for an oil change. They might charge you for transporting the oil from Saudi Arabia. read more

Scam artists at worst, dishonorable at best. I went to have the brakes on my 1997 Nissan Sentra fixed and brought in the lifetime warranty for labor and parts that I received from this location when they did my brakes in 2004. The initial estimate was $816 even with the warranty. I told them I wasn't spending $816 for brakes on a 13 year old car. An hour later, an employee called and explained if they scuffed up the rotors instead of replacing them it could cut $100 off the price. After explaining that I had set my limit on fixing this car at $500, he told me I could come and get the car after 4:00. An hour later, the manager called and explained that he would apply last week's coupon and discount the labor and not charge for draining the brake fluid and the price would be $489. So, in two hours the price has dropped $327. I tell him I think this is pretty shady and that I am having trouble understanding how this could be unless I was being completely ripped off just hours before. I told him to get my car ready because I was not using Midas and brought it to Hellstrom Automotive in Des Plaines and they fixed it for $350 without me telling them any of this story. So take this for what it's worth, but at the very least DO NOT PAY what the initial estimate is if you are going to use this Midas location. Right now they are advertising on their sign that they will beat any written estimate so at least get someone else to give you a quote if you really want to use this service. I would steer clear. read more

My wife stopped in to have a nail removed and patched. They said not only was the tire NOT repairable, they also told her and me on the phone she needed 3 and maybe 4 new tires. Two tires had about 5,000 miles on them (Just Tires) and the other two had about 12,000. She drove to another facility, had the tire patched and was told ALL the tires had plenty of tread. Came here and was told that I need an entire exhaust system costing me well over $700 in parts. In getting two other opinions I was told it would be a simple $40 charge flat fee. I have brought my car here several times over the years for oil changes. The prices are reasonable and provide fast service. I would recommend it for routine service but I feel I possibly have been upsold a number of times. After bringing the vehicle to different service centers I have been told those services were not necessary. This seems to be typical of car service places so nothing too personal. I usually go on lunch for oil changes but decided to have my brakes done.. a month later I am back because they squeak so bad. The guy changes them out and Im done.. Decide to see what they have to say about scheduled maintenance for my car. Nothing that makes me think I am really going to get anything for my money except alot of "routine inspections" and an oil change that I just had with a filter change. I asked him to check my tires to make sure they are okay and how is my steering as Im feeling something wierd. Mechanic takes it for a spin and says all feels good.. tires are good... I leave and upon talking to a friend I decide to check my tire pressure.. They are at 25lbs when they should be at 40lbs.. I pump them up and my problem is fixed. It is funny that the mechanic couldnt feel the issue and then when they supposedly 'checked' my tires they never even bothered to check the pressure. Thanks alot guys.... Oh by the way.. He really thought I needed to have my tires rotated though.. Shoddy if you ask me. He also tried to sell me a trans flush...cabin filter change and fuel system cleanse... All the pricey things.
