I had just settled into the clean, bright, and spacious waiting area to get some work done, but was happy to get back on the road ahead of schedule. I purchased gloss black rims from Discount Tire, and unfortunately my experience has been frustrating. When I bought them, I was never informed that the paint on these rims could fade or rub off so easily. Within less than a month of having them installed, I started noticing the paint coming off. Since then, I've had to replace the rims multiple times through Discount Tire because of the same issue. I really wish the staff had been upfront about the durability of the finish before I made the purchase. If I had known this was a common problem with these rims, I would have chosen something different. Now I've been referred to another shop to have them refinished, which means I have to spend additional money out of pocket. Overall, I'm disappointed because I expected better transparency and product quality. The value was way too high for paint to be fading off. I don't recommend this place for rims. Maybe they're just good for selling tires, but rims is not their thing they're bad for business. That's the one in Mount Prospect. I'm talking about when selling rims. They should be upfront and tell people like the paint's gonna come off or whatever they don't even give a good dialogue of don't use this chemical on the rim or don't use a certain tire shine or don't use this or that they just sell the rims and don't give you no type of information this is the time of stuff that is irritating because if the shoe was on the other foot, they will be wanting their money back or refunded while I should work both ways. read more

06/03/24 - Discount Tires always does right by me. I've tried other tire shops both before & in between but I've always found Discount Tires to be the tire store for me. This is my third time I've bought tires from Discount Tires. I've always been happy w/the service & quality of the tires. When I bought the car they had the thin profile tires which look slick but they don't absorb any of the shock & you can feel every pothole & lump & there are many in Chicago. In addition the rims got the hell scratched out of them & look it like shite. I hit a pothole in Chicago on Saturday & blew out a sidewall on the tire (NOT REPAIRABLE). The tire rim was damaged. One tire rim OEM original is $475 dollars/tire, then you add in the same original low profile tire, when the you feel every pothole & bump in the road & run the same issues as before. I opted to go with/a different rim that cost 40% of the original OEM tire w/thicker profile tires and can feel a noticeable difference in the ride. When I called this morning I was greeted by my namesake Phil (go figure). The first time I bought tires here Phil also assisted me. He was tied up in meetings this am and didn't want me to wait so he deferred me to Alex who did a great job helping me make an educated decision on which tire & rim to purchase. After 20 years of being a customer, our last few visits were a disappointment. Appointment was made for tire change, we called prior to make sure tires were there. Come for appointment, they only have 1 tire available. They put a different set until the tire delivered. After it delivered, we made another appointment and tires were changed. But we waited 10 minutes after we got a ready message on the app and decided to get our car ourselves. It was parked all the way on the opposite end of the main entrance, so we pulled up ourselves. Let me tell you, car was filthy inside with dirt and grease stains on the steering wheel, shifter, and inside driver door. They offered for us to get it detailed somewhere and they will refund. But we have small children and now it's going to cost us more and will take few hours. Great solution... read more

Making appointments online will get you in and out faster. They offer wiper blades, tire storage, tire pressure sensors, and will top off your tires with air anytime at no charge by just pulling up. They have bottled water and charging outlets as well. They keep you in the loop of the progress of your tire purchase/repair through our phone. They offer tire insurance and you get free lifetime tire rotation and balancing with any tire purchase. Only regret is they do not offer nitrogen fill in the tires. read more

I bought a new set of tires 2 years ago for my car from this Discount Tire location, and purchased the lifetime warranty for them - they will replace your tire for free if you have the warranty. I called today to get my tires rotated, and Phillip was very nice and has great customer service - he fit me in the schedule the same day I called. I arrive for my appointment, and unfortunately this process took another 2 hours from arriving to leaving because they were very busy - my advice is call ahead to make an appointment. The workers informed me I had damage to one of my tires, and because I had the warranty everything was covered, and I would just pay a $30 warranty renewal fee. Morals of the story - make appointments and expect to wait a long time, get the warranty for your tires when purchasing here it is very worth it, and take advantage of the free tire rotations that come with the purchase of tires from this location. Dishonest. Really depends on the person you get, though. I've bought new tires from this location before, but mostly visit for tire repairs. Being told I needed four brand new tires when I genuinely didn't need them was enough for me to never come back here. I'm all for getting a recommendation from an expert, but I'm not a fan of being lied to for a sale. Every tire sold in the US is legally required to have a visual tire tread wear indicator on it. This indicator will tell you when it's time to get new tires. Unfortunately, this Discount Tire location tries to take advantage of people who are unaware of this, and I experienced this misleading practice first hand with my last visit. They didn't even balance my wheels, and their website does not match what they say in person. I went to 4 mechanics and they all said the same thing that my car is now going to need new rims and now another set of new tires because discount tire failed to do their job. They're only good for sales and to make you spend more just so you can come back. The service is fairly quick depending on day and time and everyone is very kind and polite. And they don't charge you if it's a nail/screw and they can remove and patch the tire up. Terrible experience and service. . . Beware! The brand name tires I purchased from their online website wore out almost completely bald within only 1 year. Came to replace them and they insistently blamed my wheel alignment even though my car was professionally aligned and repaired before buying the tires. They made this assessment just by glancing at my tires with no inspection or even raising my car. I called my family to pick me up while my tires were being installed and their delivery driver blocked us in and was missing from the van and nowhere to be found. Then their employee started directing us to squeeze out of the parking spot and then suddenly the delivery driver backed into our car without looking! Instead of telling the truth and taking responsibility the driver lied to the police that we drove behind him while he was reversing. The service employee that was guiding us also gave the police officer incorrect information on the witness report. I will never come back and strongly recommend against buying from Discount Tire. read more

Very Dissatisfied Customer Came into the shop and spent $1,750 on four new higher end tires and the insurance package. When they pulled my tires off they said the corrosion and build up was so bad, that I needed a brand new set of rims for all four tires. They informed me that the cost to get it "re-chromed" would be equal to a new set of rims, so then he began to show me a set of new rims to push me into. Not really believing that the shelf life on Escalade wheels are 4 years, I drive a 2020, I decided to get a second opinion. I went to my local mom and pop tire shop and they cleaned them, resealed them and got me up and running in literally 20 minutes. After dealing with leaky tires for 2.5 weeks trying to figure out my next move. They brought me in back and informed me that Discount Tire didn't even attempt to clean the wheel. Livid isn't the right word. To try and con a long time, sticker price paying customer, right before Christmas, while his kids are with him, in an economy that has made it incredibly tight for consumers, into $2,000+ in unnecessary rims, is unbelievable to me. Was looking into upgrading my wheels and tires online with Tire Rack and Discount Tire was listed as a dealer to install the complete shipped package. I thought I'd call and check with them (Mount Prospect is the closest location) and be sure that the listed installation price was correct. I spoke with Phillip (the store manager) and he suggested that I come on in to guarantee that the chosen wheels and tires would fit my vehicle. I spoke with Alex at the store and he brought up the combination online, and because Discount Tire owned Tire Rack, compared prices. We found that his prices were even a little bit less expensive! Alex and Phillip took as much time as needed to be sure that I would be confident with my purchase from Tire Rack by placing the order through them. The wheels were delivered sooner than expected, and after unboxing one for my approval, it was time to mount my chosen tire. Because these new alloys were a bit wider that my OEM wheels, Phillip suggested a little bigger tire. He compared the type I had chosen to one that he felt would be a better decision based on what characteristics were most important to me. He not only took me back to see both brands of tires in the shop but took the time to mount each one to my new alloys for approval. I ultimately went with his suggestion (which turned out to be even a little less money as well). My vehicle was completed in about an hour and both Alex and Phillip came out to make sure I was satisfied and thank me again for the business. Overall, a very professional and classy experience (and I've been connected with the automobile industry for almost 40 years). I've been coming to discount tires for years. It's good to know that the staff has your best interests at hand. A few times my tires have gotten road damage and came back to get the flats repaired for free. When the sidewalls were damaged they gave me a discount off new ones. This time my tire repair was free since I had the guarantee on them. The sales folks are never pushy and I just feel welcomed and valued as a customer when I come by. I will always go to discount tires because that is all they do. They specialize in tires and they do a phenomenal job if it. This time, I came back for flat service, I booked ahead for an appointment and they got to me about 5 mins from the time after my time slot. I had to scan a QR code or call them when I arrived to note that I checked in. I was able to drive into the work-bay myself when it was my turn. A few times when I'm in the area, I came by to get my tires checked and inflated for free (no contact, just pull up to the garage side and an attendant would fill to your desired tire pressure. read more

I maintain 4 family vehicles and used to take my tire business to Discount Tire on Rand Rd. in Mt. Prospect, IL. I stopped doing so- and urge you to take your business elsewhere. They are not honest and are somewhat vindictive. The management of this place changed from knowledgeable tire people to salesmen working on commission. Previously, to prepare for the installation of new tires on an older vehicle, they would quickly scuff the aluminum wheel's bead to remove any corrosion to ensure a proper seal to the new tire. They would spend perhaps 30-40 seconds with an air-powered sanding disc on each wheel. They would also install brand new valve stem seals as any competent tire shop would do so. The last two times I purchased new tires from Discount Tire on Rand Rd., I developed slow leaks in several tires. I know this because I have an air compressor and a professional-quality air gauge at home. I check tire pressure every two weeks- even in winter. I sprayed soapy water all over the tire bead and valve stem to determine where the slow leaks were originating from. On the eight new tires- I had six slow leaks. Four of the leaks were from valve stem seals (you could see the soapy bubbles growing from where the valve stem seal met the wheel) and two were from the tire bead. I made appointments (earliest was three weeks out- that is how little they care) and brought the vehicles in. Immediately, I was escorted over to their display of "Sport Edition" wheels and informed that they could sell me brand new wheels for just $115 a wheel, plus tax. I asked if my wheels where cracked or bent- they said, "No, but they are old and have corrosion- that is why you have air leaks." I mentioned that the installers here always used to sand off the corrosion before installing new tires- and for the valve stem seals, they did not look new- they looked as if they were not replaced 2-3 months earlier when I purchased tires here. The manager agreed to install new valve stem seals, and did. He did not admit that they were 5 years old. They refused to sand down or scuff up the aluminum wheel's bead area (where the wheel mates with the tire's bead). Well, the four slow-leaking tires due to old valve stem-seals no longer leaked air, but the two tires leaking because of the bead continued to leak air- and I continued to refill at home every two weeks. What angered me is the receipt- on their computer program, in my electronic file, and even on the paper copy they gave me. It says that Discount Tire will "...no longer service these wheels as customer was advised to purchase new wheels due to corrosion". There are numerous "mom and pop" (mostly "pop") tire shops that sprung up all over town during the pandemic because it really does not take much capital to open a new business and sell/service tires and wheels with a state of the art Hunter Road Force balancer. At one such place (M. Affordable Tires in Niles, IL), I took each vehicle in, spent $20 a wheel for them to remove the tire from the wheel, scuff up the mating surfaces of both the tire bead and the valve stem seal, re-install the tire and balance it, and put the whole thing back on my vehicles. Lifetime warranty. It has been exactly one year now since I visited M. Affordable Tire and no more air leaks! Yeah, I am done with Discount Tire's "upcharging", dishonesty, and shoddy work. I don't mind disagreements, but to actually go to my electronic record and update it with "I should buy new wheels" and "don't bother with air leaks with this guy" and "...there will be a charge to seal rims/valves in future..." was too much. Maybe they gave me the paper receipt by accident. But my thanks to them as they pushed me into finding higher-quality, lower-priced, and responsible tire shop operators. So I leave them with one star. read more

They do a pre inspection of your tires prior to any work done. They also swap your wheels out for free and have competitive rates. I waited and nothing they were closed the next day. So I waited till Monday. Decided I was gonna call them around 1pm and asked about my tires. They said they were ready. No one ever called me or texted me about them being ready and I was ready to install them on Sunday. I went in there and tried to work something out they didn't want to. I asked to speak to a manager about the situation he wouldn't come out of his office to talk to me. My wife and I have been going to this location for over 15 years. Service has always been good. I've always felt like they took good care of us. If we get a nail in my tire, they're quick to patch it - no charge. I've ordered tires and wheels online and that process has been smooth. I've purchased tires in person in the store - equally smooth. I ordered a set of tires and wheels most recently this past September (2023), had a flat on the interstate two months later, and got the tire replaced without a hassle. (I had purchased the warranty certificates) Despite the place frequently being busy, they seem to get people in and out quickly. They've also always been courteous and respectful. So why only 3 stars? I waffled on 3 or 4. ...and to be blunt, it wouldn't take much to push this place to a 5. As I sat here thinking though, I realized that I've walked away from my last 2 visits annoyed and might try some place else next time. That's why I went with 3. My only complaints are that their attention to detail and communication between staff members isn't very good. I'll provide some examples and you can be the judge for yourself: Back in September, I bought new wheels, tires, and TPMS sensors. When I got home, I noticed that my valve caps on one side were gray (matching the new stems/sensors). The other side was black. During a prior visit I came back with mismatched colors as well. That is par for the course. After the same visit, I was told the TPMS light would go out a few miles down the road after my car adjusted to the new sensors. It didn't. i tried a couple things I saw online. That didn't work either. I went back in a month later and they reset it using a tool they have. It took under 2 minutes for the guy to do it, and he was clearly annoyed with the original person who had just sent me on my way. I walked away annoyed that I had to come back but grateful that they took care of me quickly despite having a packed waiting room. At the end of that same installation visit, a guy handed me an allen wrench, a security socket adapter, and 4 lug nuts to use with my spare tire if I ever got a flat. He then commented that they shorted me one and went back to get the 5th. As luck would have it, I just recently had a flat and noticed that these wheels take 6 lug nuts, not 5. Soooo... I still got shorted. Fortunately the fancier locking ones worked on the wheel attached to the spare. I'll confess to some swearing on the side of the highway when I noticed this one. Today I went back in to have my new tire installed (replacing the one that just went flat). I proactively asked a couple things of the guys. 1. I had black aluminum valve caps. I asked them to make sure to give me the one back off the old tire. 2. I felt like that old tire might have had something wrong with it to begin with because the ride was weird, and I noticed that the weirdness went away when I put on the spare. (From the point of installation on, if felt like a steering correction was needed at exactly 60mph.) The guy at the counter seemed intrigued and said they'd check it out. Out rolls my car with one gray valve cap, the TPMS light on, and when I asked, the guy tells me that they don't normally look at the old tires when they replace them. Clearly the message hadn't gotten through. He retrieved my black aluminum cap and reset the TPMS (which I now realize wasn't really necessary because system on my car already knew about the new sensors). I didn't argue about checking the tire at that point. Anyway, expect fast friendly service. If you need a tire repaired, they'll be there for you. If you buy the certificates, no questions asked after a tire gets destroyed. BUT don't expect them to have great attention to detail or for the tech working on your car to hear the words you say to the guy at the counter. Am I being too hard on them? Would I get equal care plus better attention to detail at another tire place? I honestly don't know. read more

sales clerk was upset i didn't want to buy rims he insisted they were bad with out even looking at them .I went there because of air leaks on all 4 tires and this is an issue i've been having often , now keep in mind this is my third set of tires with them and its always the same issue they don't clean the rims when installing new tires .
