Midas in Crystal Lake is the best in getting your brakes done. I live in McHenry and the Midas in McHenry had bad reviews. A neighbor told me he went to the Midas in Crystal Lake and he was very happy with the great job they did on his car. So I called Midas in Crystal Lake Saturday and spoke to Don (Manager) told him my situation with the brakes and mentioned that this is the only car I have and that I can have a friend drive me there to drop the car off. He was very polite / professional and understood and said I can bring my car in Monday and it would be done the same day. Dieter was at the front desk when I arrived Monday morning. Very nice gentlemen and explained what will be done with the car. I asked if we can have a few other things done to the car and he said no problem. They kept me informed on the progress of the car and the price upfront for the repair before they started the work. Car was done the same day and I picked up my car around 3:00. Don and Dieter was awesome and keep up the great job. I will be back again in the future and refer to my friends. read more

Excellent customer service, Don was a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond in getting my vehicle serviced quickly.

Midas Crystal Lake, by far has the best customer service in the area. I have 3 cars, that I take their religiously whenever I need work done. Don O (Manager) and Dieter are always honest, and truthful for what works needs to be done. They are very down to earth guys, and will diligently explain whatever works needs to be done, and a fair quote. If you need work done in the area, give them a call. They will make sure you get the best work done, at the best price. Gregg D read more

Dieter at Midas Crystal Lake did an outstanding job informing me about my SUV's maintenance and brake repairs. Dieter is highly experienced I would certainly go there again. Thanks!! read more

My go-to place for my out-of-warranty car(s). I've found the prices to be competitive and if you search for coupons on their site, better than competitive. This is a full service repair center. I certainly found found value in their lifetime brake warranties. I've witnessed a few changes in ownership and management through the years, but none compromised integrity of the brand, all were good. The manager Don is very helpful. He will always explain a diagnosis, recommended repair, and the reason behind the repair method. Many times, if repair work is out of price range, he'll try to think of a plan B (circumstances can vary). In my experiences, he has gone above and beyond. Also, he will never forget to thank you for your business. Hours can be limited compared to other places but they do have a drop box and they will always correspond and acknowledge receipt of your car the next day. Same goes with web-based appointments. As I said before, I take my other cars under warranty to the certified service centers but I like this place because it has that small town feel. They usually remember your car and it's history. read more

I had a quote from my dealer of $899-$1200 to replace my muffler and pipe. Luckily they suggested I go to this Midas because it would be cheaper. They got my in immediately and did the repair for $190. They just had to weld some brackets. The dealer doesn't do repairs like that so they would've had to replace the whole thing. Thanks Don at Crystal Lake Midas! You saved me! read more

We have been going here with at least 5 cars for the last few years but the last year has been horrible quality. I have a mechanic friend that used to come here and he directed me to Midas. I was told by him recently that the shop has a new owner the quality is poor now. I recently learned that they worked on my Toyota Prius only later to tell me that this is not their forte. I took to Toyota and they said Midas removed needed parts and they had things zip-tied together under my car. The car is now ruined. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Midas. Very frustrated as I like Don who works the front but the quality is awful. read more

Had work done on brakes (pads, rotors, and a caliper ) and got new tires. Great prices and fast service.

My car needed service so I stopped in without a appointment. Sam fixed my problem. He also gave me a great price to do my brakes. My car doesn't shake when I apply the brakes anymore. They are very friendly team and have helped me out several times now. Thank you Midas read more

This place is horrible. They tried ripped me off and told me I needed brakes and a bunch of other work which was thousands of dollars. I took my car somewhere else only to find out I didn't need any of that work. A bunch of scammers. Stay away. read more

Not many times do you encounter a company, and in this case, the 0wner of a business, that goes out of his way to do something RIGHT! A few months ago, I bought a 2018 KIA Soul from Hertz. While it had a little over forty-two thousand miles on it, I knew the car was in good shape. It wasn't until a few months later that I learned how great it was. The car was making a little brake noise when I backed up. I thought that with over forty-two thousand miles, the car was due for brakes. I took the car into the Midas store located on route 14 in Crystal Lake, IL, for an inspection. The owner took the car for a test ride and then returned it to the shop for a closer inspection. After a few minutes, the owner returned to tell me that my car had all new brakes and tires. They also did a routine inspection of all the fluids and adjusted the tire pressure. All that, and there was no cost! I found the following on the WEB: In April 1956, Midas began life as a groundbreaking auto repair outlet with a reputation for service, quality, and reliability. Now after more than 60 years, the success story continues thanks to the tireless efforts of Midas franchisees and employees, whose neighborhood focus and day-to-day involvement fuel the worldwide appeal of our famous brand. read more

Me and my brother came in not long ago for an alignment but weren't able to get it done that day, but thats not the problem. My problem is that on our way there, the brakes were completely fine! Never had a single problem. But after leaving, the breaks wouldnt work. They completely gave out and we were almost put in some extreme danger. We've been told by another place that our breaks were fine and didn't need any work, but if thats the case, how could they just give out like that? It is an old car but, like i said, we were told that they were fine. I don't trust this place and would never use it again. I would never recommend this place. read more

Great service today when I came in for an oil change. This was my first time at this location and I will definitely go back! The gentleman that took care of me at the front desk was very polite and nice his service is what you call " Great Costumer Service" I recommend this midas Elsie Orengo read more

$32 for a basic oil change is ridiculous! I even had a $19.99 coupon.($15 off) They were also supposed to assess if tires were to be rotated. Instead they told me about several other upsell things. They charge $4.99 for extra quart of oil. Last time it was $2.99. Then there's the shop parts charge and disposal fee. Neither of those was ever charged before. The previous owner got the 5 star reviews. This one...not so much. I will not be back. read more

Don was friendly and welcoming. He went over everything on my vehicle thoroughly. They did what I wanted to do and did not push other services like other places do. I was in and out of there in 45 minutes. Highly recommended! Thanks guys! read more

First time at this Midas, Did a good job on my car and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Will be back. read more

Was initially impressed. Car maintenance seemed of quality. But the REBATE processing has been utter hell. Midas needs to de-link from Synchrony, for their line-of-credit/rebate offer processing. Too much time and inefficiency in tracking the rebate. Also, Midas prices are higher than competitors (e.g., Firestone tires and service were generally $200 less). I would recommend staying away. Many other better options. read more

I had been going there for over 25 years under the previous owner Mr. Shapur who was honest and straight forward. Several times he looked at my vehicles and said everything was fine when it was, no charge. The new owner/manager quoted me a price of $1,200.00 for brakes. What a joke. I've owned cars for over years 45 and know a little bit about cars. I told him no thanks and took my car and ran out of that place never to be seen there again. Buyer beware! Avoid at all cost. You have countless options. Midas should revoke their franchising license and sell it to someone else that's not a con man before they tarnish Midas's name. read more

My wife's car failed an emissions test and we brought it in. No one wants to hear bad news about their car, but Don explained what needed to be done and why. Don and the team fixed it up and even drove it to the emissions test facility to save me the time and ensure that it past. Incredible service, will be back again. read more

I recently had an issue with my car that was quoted elsewhere to cost $1500. They were going to completely remove and replace my exhaust system. I decided to get a second quote and tried out Midas... it ended up being $500, and the whole thing was taken care of 3 hours after I dropped the car off. Never have I ever had a repair that large take so little time! Also, the employees are personable and are willing to give sound advice. This is now my new repair shop! read more

Always have a great experience here. The manager is awesome and their mechanics are top-notch. Fair prices too.

Strip drain plugs then charge you for a new oil pan. Happened to two others I know as well. They advertise good oil change prices on a banner but costs $200 in the end.. read more

Their free inspections are a joke. Spent not even 15 min on my car, even told me they took for a test drive, car never left the shop. I was willing to have whatever was needed repaired especially because the inspection was free but now some other shops going to be getting my business. read more

I have always had a fair experience here, they do not push the upsell like at most mechanics. You can tell the owner, who is usually at the desk, has a lot of integrity and is looking out for the interests of a long term relationship, not a quick buck. I wish there was a place like this close to where I lived, my in laws live out around here so I know I can get some good repairs done with the car when I'm here! read more

This used to be my preferred location until I had to replace a muffler under warranty. When they put the exhaust system together originally, they welded all the components together. When I needed the muffler replaced under warranty at a later date, low and behold, it cost more $$ under warranty because they welded the parts together. The Midas in McHenry replaced everything including the muffler & tailpipe at a cheaper cost than having the muffler replaced under warranty! NEVER let a muffler shop "WELD" your muffler to your tailpipe or exhaust system. Its a sure "Gottcha" ! read more

Not honest and trustworthy in my opinion. When doing a brake job they told me some of the older components can be reused without any problem and charged me $200 for the job. When I had brake problem again after 8 months, they told me the entire brake job has to be redone because of reuse of the older components and other things I did not understand. Ended up paying another sum of money. In my opinion they make you come back again and again to make money. I am not going here ever again. read more

Great local Midas shop.. Altho Sharpur (the owner) can be grumpy at times.. He's not very personable.. Other than that the prices are always the best and the mechanics have not once tried to upsell me on anything that I didnt need.. They are the best shop in Crystal Lake!! read more

Great experience every time I take my car here. They are always honest and fix what is needed with your car. The owner and the rest of the guys who work there are great, will be bringing my car to them from now on. read more

I have never had a problem at this Midas. I feel they have been honest with me and take the time to look at my history. I am always skeptical of all auto repairs so it takes a lot to keep me coming back. I would definitely recommend them to others. read more

Great experience with this shop who addressed a botched job from a competitor of theirs around the corner. I will be bringing all of my vehicles to this location from now on. read more

Received a coupon in the mail for special offer oil change club, 4 changes, 2 tire rotations 1 air filter and 1 set of wiper blades for $69 dollars. I have used it both of my cars, the service has been friendly and thorough. They gave the cars complete inspections and the services they recommended were very reasonable. The shop is a little out of the way for me but I felt they were honest. read more

had to write this review because my daughter had such a great experience with this company, they were upfront about everything they were doing and communicating with her, and fair price!. and they know what they are doing! she is so happy and so am I. she has had many bad experiences with mechanics/shops, so this was a great surprise. thank you Midas for being professional and caring. read more
