I'm honestly getting sick and tired of companies charging a 3% surcharge for purchases made with a credit card... especially when they suggest that I can "save 3%" by using a debit card. I've been a customer here for almost a decade, but I am FIRMLY committed to no longer doing business with anywhere that charges this 3% fee instead of simply including it in their prices. Also, the 3% surcharge is not mentioned anywhere on the written estimate I was given, and wasn't point out until after the work was done and I was about to pay. Then, after I indicated that I wasn't happy, I was told by the guys working the desk that EVERY shop in the area is doing this. So I decided to call, and after 5 shops that are all within 1 mile of this shop, literally NONE of them are doing this. Don't get me wrong. I like the guys at Douglas. I and my wife and even my parents have taken their vehicles here, they are very good and know what they are doing, they inspect my truck every time I bring it in and have caught some serious issues. I never had to return my truck for work they have preformed, they have been up front and honest, which is rare from any automotive repair shop today. I read the one review about the customer who stated that Douglas drained all the oil out of her car and she then had to get another oil change somewhere else, common sense tells me that she's not truthful, as a car will not make very many miles without oil, really? Honestly if I could give no stars I would. I took my car here to get a quote on a new muffler. When I went back to pick up my car they told me that they were doing an oil change. I told him I never needed an oil change, that I had just got an oil change the other day. I said again, I brought my car in just for a quote not an oil change. When they gave me back my car they drained all the oil out of it and didn't put any oil back in it. I had to go pay for another oil change the next day someplace else! The coolant crossover pipe on my 2010 Toyota Corolla cracked, causing the coolant to leak and the engine to significantly overheat. My car only had 123,000 miles on it, underwent regular routine maintenance, and had truly had no other issues to date. When I took it to the dealer on Tuesday after noticing my heat was not working, they explained they've never seen this type of crack on a Toyota Corolla cylinder head before and quoted a price equivalent to a down payment on a brand new car. Effectively, a new lower head was required and labor for fixing this type of issue was not cheap. Toyota Corollas are known for their reliability and longevity, so I felt robbed of my sturdy car knowing without this issue I'd have another 150k + miles to travel with my car. I wasn't ready to part with it and felt even with this investment it would be cheaper than a new car. We decided it was probably worth contacting a few local shops to explain the issue and get additional opinions/quotes before deciding next steps. My family has been going to Douglas for years trusting their integrity and always receiving quality results. When we explained the issue to Xavier he said they were confident they could beat the dealer price, but wanted to see the crack before providing a formal quote. I brought the car in Wednesday (roughly 1 hour after calling to discuss the issues), was generously provided access to a rental car on site, and received a call within 2 hours to discuss their findings. Ultimately, I had a weak head cast and receiving the replacement part would take 2+ week because it needed to be shipped from Canada. This part is scarcely available, because it never breaks! The guys at Douglas suggested brazing the tube, because the crack did not go into the cylinder head but there was no guarantee it would hold under a pressure test. They were pretty confident and if it worked, it would only cost about 1/3 of the dealers price to replace the part! We decided to go ahead with the braising and held our breaths. Chris called me around 11 the next morning, said everything went great and my car underwent the pressure test for more than 30 minutes with no issues. He offered to complete an inspection and suggested completing my 120k mile maintenance, which they did. I left the lot that evening with my car in perfect working condition. To think 2 days prior I thought I needed to buy a new car... I cannot express how thankful I am to have worked with such an amazing team. The guys at Douglas know what they are doing and honestly want what is best for you and your vehicle. I highly recommend them and trust that they will take excellent care of you. Was going to this shop since spring of 2006 with all the things I didn't either have the time to do or the tools for. Went in for brakes recently because I didn't have the time to do them myself. The quote from here was astronomically high!!! They will give you their warranty BS when you call them out on it... It's just that. BS!! I got a quote from another shop the same day at 1/3 of their quote with the EXACT same parts. Please do your homework on shops and their rates. This is not the same Douglas from 2006. Shame that they're willing to throw away a customer that has over a 10 year history to make a serious buck. Here's the kickers... They charged for a "brake inspection" which is $60.00. I'll never get that back and they did nothing other than try to rip me off. Secondly, what they didn't realize is I know insurance agents in the area personally. I have always spoke highly of Douglas to them and they have referred clients to their shop many times. These agents didn't like my story, so we did an audit of this and it's in access of 30 or more vehicles a month. Enjoy my $60.00. Avoid this shop. I took my vehicle in for an oil change approximately (3) months ago, it came time for servicing again, so due to the lack of time, I went to Jiffy Lube. Jiffy Lube was unable to change the oil due to the oil plug being stripped. Jiffy Lube manager asked me, "Who serviced the car the last time?" I responded Douglas Automotive. Dropped off my car on a busy afternoon, only a week after they did an oil change on it and I noticed my car had a shake to it. All they needed to do was balance my tires. They said they would get to it the next morning and 5 hours after they open they still haven't finished. Usually they are great but recently I've been very disappointed with their service. On the other hand, the workers at the front desk are very kind but for a simple fix like this, I find half a day plus another morning too long to take care of this. Let me start off by saying I always have my guard up when it comes to auto mechanics but Douglas has proven to me that they are different. My wife thought she had a problem with her car not once but twice in a few days. Douglas checked out her car both times, found nothing wrong both times and didn't charge us a penny. We could have been easily scammed into charges but this mechanic operates with integrity. Oh and by the way their service is excellent - they'll come and pick up the car and drop it off when they are done, no need to leave work for a ride. This mechanic is professional, trustworthy and has won my business for now on. This is coming from a guy that usually only writes reviews about bad experiences. Called Douglas to see if they accepted warranties. They said they do an bring in for inspection of a code. Brought it in for inspection, the gentlemen up front said he'd call back with diagnosis. When he calls back later the repair was deemed under warranty but they could not service under the manufacturer's warranty, no big deal, BUT the diagnosis was $108.95 to hook up to a computer and read code. I understand the cost of service but first person on phone never said they charged for the inspection, their web site has no such information, their office has no such information at the front desk and even in person they never mentioned the cost. I already had the code printed out and provided to front desk representative because he asked me for it on arrival so I'm not too happy about paying them $108.95 for repeating my efforts. I ended up having the repair completed else where. Won't be back. read more
