This place is a total rip off. I was looking for a starter replacement on Yelp. This place answered and gave me a price of $450 parts and labor. I also asked if he could fix a stiring problem which he said he could and also said it would be a three hour job to replace an $18.00 part. After two weeks without a car I finally got it back along with a bill of over $1200. Over $500 more than what it shiuld have cost. Problem he doesn't know what he was doing. Two weeks to do one days work Don't bother with this place. A real disgrace to hard working mechanics. read more

DON'T GO HERE!!!!! 8/4/23 I had my brakes done last November (11/22) at Rob's Complete Auto Repair in Algonquin, IL. He charged me $976.28 for front and rear brakes, which I thought was a little high. By July 2023 (only 4000 miles later) there was a noise so loud when the brakes were applied, that I had to have it looked at. Rob couldn't get me in, so I ended up at the dealer. They said the wrong pads were put on the rear brakes and the pads were put in the wrong positions, so they were slipping. I had to have the rear brakes done again. I went to Rob, explained the situation and asked for a refund on his rear brake job. He refused! I do not recommend this repair shop. Think very carefully before going here! read more

I had a rusted front crossbar (subframe), and many shops were reluctant to do the replacement job for me. The other shops quoted me between $900 to an unreasonably high $2700. Rob promised to do it for 3 to 400, and he kept his word (I was charged $300). Because I was in a hurry for a road trip, he did it quickly while waiting there. Would go back to Rob again. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! I brought my car in for head gasket leak (antifreeze in the engine) and was told it's a big job that included 3 oil changes. Was told it needed thermostat gasket replaced but couldn't get one because the dealership was already closed on Saturday. Thermostat gaskets are available at any auto parts store. Oh there's more to this story. Bottom line is 1) No 3 oil changes performed. 2) Kept my vehicle for 5 weeks while he repaired other cars. 3) No thermostat replacement. 4) Oil filter was filthy dirty, cracked, mangled and forced on. Clearly not belonging to my vehicle. Don't be deceived by the owners kind demeanor or his good reviews. I'm lead to believe that based on my experience, his "good reviews" are about as valid as good reviews on dingy hotels, raggedy restaurants, etc. You get the picture. Again, BUYER BEWARE!!! Wow, An honest mechanic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a find. I had some work done on my car that Rob did for $945.00. The quote I got from my own mechanic I've used for years was $1,800.00. Rob has a lifetime parts warranty. My mechanic is only a 3 year warranty. So, I picked up my car from Rob and drove to work the next morning and "snap". The tire spring breaks. Unfortunately it wasn't anything Rob fixed for me before so this was just bad timing. I took it back to Rob and he quoted me just $100.00 if it all went well and easy. That included the cost of the spring. It didn't go well, he put in at least 5 hours of work to get the 17 year old spring off and the new one on but guess what he charged me? Just $100.00 because that's what he quoted me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy I gave him $200.00 and am a lifelong client. Has anyone EVER heard of a mechanic who does this??????? My car was leaking fluid near the left front tire. I drove to Rob's b/c he'd done my brakes two years before. He said it was not brake fluid but power steering fluid. Told me to pop the hood. Found a squirrel nest and he said the squirrel had chewed into the power steering line. I asked if it was safe to drive. He told me to fill up power steering fluid and come back when he could see me in 4 days. I returned. He never called with an estimate but called to say it was done. $300. Receipt said he replaced the power steering line from the radiator to the cooler. He didn't break out the parts or labor. I drove 1/2 block before turning around b/c it sounded terrible. He said it was the power steering pump & it would probably kick back on. Went to the dealer who showed me he had SPLICED the TRANSMISSION line, not the power steering line and he had sent me away without filling up the transmission fluid at all. After trying to replace just the transmission fluid line to no avail, I had to have my ENTIRE transmission replaced for $7000 after being misdiagnosed by him from the beginning. read more
