DO NOT GO HERE. Go to Lucas Tire & Auto Service on Burnet instead. I am writing my very first online review just so I can share the negative experience I had at this Midas location on Guadalupe on 8/19/2022. My AC stopped blowing cold air so I went in for a freon refrigerant refill. They quoted me $299+diagnostics. They came back after 30mins-hr and told me they refilled it but there's a hole in the AC condenser and it needs to be replaced for $1400. I asked questions, they told me they'll do it for $1200. I asked some more questions, now they tell me they'll do it for $1000. This seemed incredibly suspicious but I don't know anything about cars so I was about to go ahead (since they also told me I need to replace the condenser stat or it'll turn into a $4000 repair) but thought I should call my boyfriend first. Boyfriend tells me paying roughly $300 for a refrigerant refill is an absolute scam and everything sounds off so I should get out of there. I did and went to Lucas for a second opinion. They laughed when I told them what I paid at Midas, unlike Midas they only charge around $89 for refrigerant refill. They also tested everything, put dye inside to check where it may be leaking. And surprise, they're unable to find this mysterious leak. They told me to come back if I experience the issue again and if there is indeed a leak they'll be able to find exactly where with the dye. All of this they did for free. I have so much respect for mechanics and it is because of people/establishments like Midas that this profession gets a bad name. Shame on you read more

I called them a day before I went there for Tire balancing. I needed 4 tires balanced. When I showed up the next day for Tire balancing , I confirmed the quote they provided for 4 tire balance which is $40.00. The guy who checked me in confirmed $40 and printed a work order . I waited almost 4 hours before they pulled my car right before closing. While they started to work on tires , another guy came to the counter to charge me. He quoted $60 for Tire balancing and $20 for Tire rotation. $80 plus tax. I mentioned that the other guy told me 4 hours ago that $40 for Tire balancing and he will charge $10 for tire rotation ( which I believe should be free as they are not doing extra work, they are taking off the wheels for tire balancing). Well, he rudely said no it is $60 for balancing and $20 for rotation. When I told that the other guy confirmed me $40 for balancing , he denied. That time the manager ( very rude person) stepped in and said no it is $60 and other guy gave you wrong number. When the original guy showed up and I told him hat you told me $40, he straightly denied. He said he did not give me any quote. That time when I asked the manager to print the work order, The printed work order showed $40. So, I had the proof that the sales guy lying straight up on my face. The rude manager denied to honor that and kept pushing me for $60 for tire balancing. He said , he does not honor if his employee gives wrong quotes. No sorry nothing. Kept arguing with me for $60 even after I showed him the printed $40 from his shop. I have seen few other unhappy customers there with billing when I was waiting there for 4 hours. They are crook , dishonest. liars.. I am WARNING everyone. Stay away from this place. I am not mad for my $20, I am mad how they lied on my face right away and How rude they were. In from Dallas and needed new front brake pads and rotors. They were quick and very reasonable. Friendly as well!

Do not even think about it. My daughter(senior at UT) car is dead and towed to this Midas. Starter problem. Repalced. Later on I checked the invoice. $705!, $400 for remanufactured starter alone for 2004 Accord LX. I am not a mechanic but I know how much the part costs at least, less than $150, mostly $107, even $200+ for Honda genuine part. I am not sure they are supposed to make money out of part sales like this (they can make money but not like this), $300 margin and labor is extra. What a great business! I called Midas headquater and they offered warranty on remanufactured starter (I am really not sure they actually replaced starter). How generous they are! "Trust the Midas touch" . Every touch on your car will be rip-off. Lesson learned for kid. Never ever deal with this place. If they are not honest on part price then they are surely not honest on your car. These guys are great! Raul has helped me a couple of times with both of my vehicles. Wether it was a check engine light issue (more than 1 time) or squeaky brakes, he was quick to diagnosis and give me the honest truth about the issues. I recently purchased a Groupon for a oil change. Before purchasing, I made sure to read the "fine print" section so I wouldn't encounter any issues. There weren't any additional instructions so I proceeded with my purchase. Once I reached Jiffy Lube I was instructed that Groupon customers would need to make an appointment during the week for service ( I came in a Saturday). I explained to the associate that it is very difficult for me to come before 6 pm during the week, I was told "there was nothing That could be done" despite the Groupon instructions not being clear. Every time I try to make an appointment during the week, they are full. To make matters worse, I went to leave a review on their Groupon page and another customer had the same issue, however he was able to get his oil change without issue. I never am the one to pull the race card, but the entire team didn't seem interested in making sure I was taken care of, or even remorseful that THEIR info was wrong on Groupon. My car overheated and Midas was the closest shop. I should have spent more money on the tow to take it somewhere else. After looking at it, I need a new radiator, the support for it and an ac condenser line. I agreed after looking at it. The support piece they charged me over a grand for (not labor just the part). That seemed really shady to me and I confronted them about it. They told me they have to get that specific part directly from the dealer, which is why it is so expensive. Ok, I live outside of town and I can't function without my vehicle. Two days later I pick the car up after dropping my rental off and 20 minutes later it's not accelerating and transmission fluid is leaking everywhere. They were kind enough to call a tow for me, and Jeremy even drove me all the way home. They also sent someone to pick me up and take me to work the next day which I thought was just awesome. Pick my car up again, now the ac doesn't work again. They quote me another $500 to fix some lines. No sorry, 3 strikes your out. After realizing I just didn't trust them at all anymore, I called the Hyundai dealership in town and they tell me the core support is less that $700 and I was seriously overcharged. I ended up taking it back and they "fixed" the ac on them to keep me as a customer. It still doesn't work and I just didn't want to deal with them anymore. Right now I'm getting my oil changed somewhere else and they informed me I'm missing a cap, (which they stated I didn't need) and there is still transmission fluid leaking. Let me just start this review of by saying I was in so happy that they said they said they would be able to replace a part that I knew was broken on my car but after it all I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone AT ALL. Called them to ask for a caliper replacement and had the part, but they didn't know I had it at the time of the call. They said they would charge $169/hour for labor + the part cost and that it would take an hour. So why not I guess, I'm here already. So I said okay. Only to get a call later saying my break pads are messed up and that they messed up my rotors. I tried telling them I had just bought the car and know how it looks because I replaced the break pads myself 2 weeks prior and that that's not what I would like to be done. He continued to tell me that that won't fix the problem and that I would blow a line and talking about other things that didn't even add up, and being inconsistent. He said if I didn't get the parts then the labor cost would go up because they already took them off so I said go ahead and do it, I'll be right over anyways. $600 later. I get there and I said let me see the breaks, he heads into the shop and he didn't know I was watching and I see him get the closest pair of worn break pads. By now they're doing all the replacements since I gave them the go ahead on the phone and told me the additional labor cost of 2 hours. What really bothered me the most is that I stayed until it was ready. I was one of the only ones waiting in the office and could overhear so many things. There were managers and other employees getting scolded at by each other for not being successful upselling. I even heard an employee telling another that he should of said this and that. There were even cases where one approached another and whispered to another when I was the ONLY customer in the waiting room/front desk. When it came time to pay i thought I would save $100 by bringing in the part only to find out they charged me the same as they would of if I didn't have the part. They pulled that off by adding labor time, more than they said it would take for all the part changes, before I told them I had the part. So there goes my attempt at saving money. At this point there's nothing I can do. I was about to pay when I see a MIDAS advertisement for saving $50 when a brake check is performed. So I tell them if they can add that discount and he dosent even hesitate and adds it. Was about to charge me without it but I never got rowdy about anything but I sure did notice. I didn't know Midas was some kind of negotiating business, nor did I know they pull off customer scams to me and to the people who went in. Honestly go elsewhere. I'll be making sure as few as possible people go there. First and last time ever going. I feel bad for all the people they prey on and don't even notice. Ended up paying $759 in miscellaneous fees that I wasn't aware of before. read more

I'm really unhappy (to put it mildly). After spending 4 hours waiting (with my 4 year old) on my car to get the rear brakes "fixed" on my Ford C-Max Energi, the car was making a weird noise. Thinking this was related to a previous issue I had the car diagnosed by a Ford dealership and was told the brake pads were not put into the callipers correctly. So I took the car back to Midas for them to fix it. They proceeded to tell me how rusty my rotors were (kept asking me if I brought the car from "up north"), I was then told when they "fixed" the brakes the first time they'd turned the rotors 4 TIMES (not twice like I was originally told). I asked them nicely to make this right since it was their mistake. They promised to "take care of me" so I waited FOUR MORE hours for them to again turn the rotors (not replace them as I asked) and to replace the brake pads. They tried three different times to sell me new brake rotors which I gladly would have replaced BEFORE they sanded them down 4+ times if I had known my car needed them. When 5:30 rolled around my husband and kids headed to pick me up because I was sick to my stomach at this point and I was still trying to get them to "take care of me" and replace my rotors not just the pads, I asked to speak to the owner. At 5:45 they start putting the wheels back on the car (having ignored my request to speak with the owner and putting the old rotors on). At 6 they tried to send me on my way. At 6:05 they proceeded to give my husband a different story than what they told me. Now my car has sanded down rotors (less stopping surface for brake pads) new brakes pads and makes the same God awful sound my once quite hybrid NEVER made. Thanks for ignoring me, treating me stupid and making me feel small. DO NOT waste your time or your money at Midas! P.S. they gave me two different prices for the rotors ("cost" @ $49 each & $74 each depending on who I talked to and Amazon has them for $23 each). read more

Basically I asked why I should pay extra supply but they told me you have to pay it. Never choose Midas for oil change again. I choosed both their locations and they have no idea what they're doing. Was able to get my car in and fixed the same day. Engine check light and temp gauge alerted me that my car needed prompt attention. Not having a regular mechanic, as I just relocated to the area, I needed to find a certified tech. The technician assessed my car, called to confirm the estimate, and had the car finished later that afternoon. He was very professional and took the time to explain the failing part and repair. Will definitely be using them as my go-to service center from now on! read more

Went here 2 times. The first I came in to get a tire patched, and an oil change. The workers were extremely friendly and began work on my car right away. However, after doing their free routine state inspection, they showed me a long list of things my car additionally needed. I only let them do a few things on the list, because I am tight on cash. But, I had this eerie feeling that they were taking advantage of my lack of knowledge cars-wise. The second time, I had a headlight that was out. It took a little longer than I would have liked, but overall I was pleased with the results. I wish though that they would have noticed my light was out the first time I went. I've stopped writing bad reviews simply b.c I don't like the service. It's not fair to the owners of a company. But in this case, these guys need to be called out for their service. They're the typical auto repair shop that will tell you that you need new tires (even if you bought new ones from them a year ago), you need new shocks, and a new wheel? I fell for it with them on one car. After taking my wife's car, I decided to get a second opinion. Especially since I just bought new tires from this place a year earlier (Midas conveniently couldn't find a record of buying new records from them until I told them to look harder). After taking the VW to the hipster VW place up north (Underground VW or whatever - what a great place!) and the VW dealer, both places told me that the tires are fine. The shocks are fine. And why would we need a new wheel, both places asked. So I thought this place was reputable. But, after getting two second opinions, my worst fears about this place were confirmed. I took my car in to get new brake pads on my front wheels. Other issues showed up and it went from a small job to a big job. The only good thing they did for the 1 star was walking me through everything after I watched them inspecting my car. So went from a brake job on my front wheels to a rack and pinion as well along with a valve cover gasket. They also charged me over $100 for new spark plugs which I had replaced 10K miles ago on my car and didnt even pay that much for the factory mandated spark plugs I put on the car. A lot of money but the lowered it to make it right. They told me it would be done that day. WRONG. The wrong rack and pinion was ordered. They didnt get the right one until later in the day after trying to make the WRONG one work. If its the WRONG one, you get the RIGHT one. This started yesterday when I brought my car at 7:30 am to get worked on and didn't get it until 4pm today after I had paid yesterday. To make up for the delays and their lack of effort, I was given a free oil change in the future. Thats all they did on a screw up on a job that was a couple thousand. read more

Took them 2 hour to tell us that they are still waiting for the bulb to get shipped and dare to tell us they have a huge selection of bulbs. Do not go here. They mess with your vehicles and cause you further damages. This location is by far the worst and most scandalous location. All around horrible. I should clarify my experience; I had a flat tire and a dead battery. Went to Midas and they told me a number of things that were wrong with my vehicle, other then what I had just asked for. A simple tire change and new battery. The man kept pushing me to buy two new tires as I had declined all of the repairs my vehicle "needed". I just needed one tire and a battery and they neglected to give me just that. He pushed me so hard to buy two tires that he lowered the price 3 different times. Kept placing me on hold. I just wanted my tire and battery. So after 5 hours going back and forth I finally got a new tire and battery. Drove off and my gears are broken. Drove back and the mechanic immediately said it was like that when they received it. If this was the case why was it not mentioned when they initially listed all of my issues? They said that they "assumed" I knew. And as a "courtesy" they could give me an estimate. HORRIBLE. read more

I don't know a lot about cars and these guys saw that and tried to take advantage of it! They wanted to charge me $1,900 to replace my air compressor claiming the labour would cost around $700 and the part $1,200. Turns out they plucked these numbers completely out of the air because later I found out the part would cost around $150. Got a mobile mechanic to install it in an afternoon so it all cost only a couple hundred dollars. Ask around for different prices and avoid places like these! read more

Like others have said below, I feel Midas tries to take advantage of customers who do not know much about cars. I live down the street from these guys and would love to give them business as it's very convenient for me to drop by car off and have work done on it here. But after my last visit, I will not come here again. I've gone to Midas twice. The first was December 2013. I needed some routine car work done, but at this time what was really worrying me was that my TPS light kept coming on and I had to make a 10-hour car trip soon for the holidays. When I dropped off my car, I asked them to please take a good look at the tires. I was told the tires were probably changing pressure due to change in weather. Despite this, I asked them to please just double check. Hours later when I got the call to pick up my car, I asked if they had noticed anything wrong with the tires. They told me they hadn't checked but would and give me a call. When I did get the final call, Midas told me there was nothing wrong with the tires but they put air in it out of courtesy. My TPS light was still on when I got the car. The next week, I drove my 10-hour trip to visit my parents, growing increasingly concerned about the TPS light. My car felt weird to drive as well. When I arrived, my dad looked at my tires. It took him a minute to find a hole in the front tire. My tire pressure was 11, and it should have been 32. We patched the tire. Fast forward to this November. Although I was still a little upset at Midas for not noticing the hole or attempting to take the extra time to fix it (and possibly fibbing that they did look at the tires), I took my car to them again out of desperation. I wanted to give Midas a second chance. Once again, my TPS light was on. Once again, I was told nothing was wrong with my tires. However, I was told that I needed struts for my tires so the TPS light would stop coming on. The total would be $1,400.00. I said I'd consider it (and wanted to get a second opinion). When I got home, I decided to look at my tires. Guess what? I found a screw in my front tire in less than a minute. I patched the tire. TPS Light is off. I feel Midas doesn't take my requests seriously because I'm a small, young female. It's as if they are exploiting the fact that I do not know much about cars and come to them for help. Alas, I will not be giving them ANY more of my business. I'll go the extra few blocks to Jiffy Lube instead. read more

I'm updating my review and adding one star because it turns out they were not lying to me. I took my car to another automotive place where my friend knows the owner. He told me the exact same thing that Midas did, so it looks like my brother's friend who worked on my car did, in fact, screw up my car. I'm keeping off two stars though because the shop my car is now at offered me two cheaper options, 1. they could try to find the loose bolt and replace the belt, and my car would probably work, or 2. if that did not look like it would work, they could get me a rebuilt engine, which is much cheaper than repairing the original one. In fact, the shop owner just called me a minute ago and it looks like they are going to be able to do option 1 and save me a lot of money. Why didn't Midas tell me this could be done?? Midas did not offer me these options, they only offered to repair the engine for $2700 or buy the car from me. So it looks like the people at this Midas are honest in their diagnostics but they will try to gouge you for the work. Pretty lame. read more

I was a walk-in on a weekday for an oil change on my first visit. I asked the clerk how long the wait would be. When he replied "one hour," I hesitantly decided to stay. I decided to walk down to the triangle to pass the time. When I returned in an hour, my car was in the garage, and had not been looked at. Three people who had come in after me got their cars, while I waited and watched the technicians smoke and drink sodas while staring at my car. The clerk finally called my name, and proceeded to orate a laundry list of things that were wrong with my car. While some of them probably do need attention, after over two hours, I was too frustrated to listen to anything I had to say. They have made me a Jiffy Lube customer for life! read more

I'm seriously not one to write bad reviews but when a business wastes two hours of your time and gets nothing done, they deserve it. Somehow in the time that i handed over my key and waited the estimated 1.5 hours, it didn't cross one person in the shops mind to see if my car actually got into the shop. After growing a bit antsy at 2 hours I walked out to find my car parked exactly where i had left it and found my key sitting right behind the counter. After running around the shop "looking for my key" they gave me some excuse about mixing up my keys with a toyota's paperwork..you mean my key with a giant VW sticker? Just went in today cause I had a coupon for a 19.99 oil change and tire rotation. They were very nice. I just don't see why it takes 2 hours (when they promised 1 hour - an hour and a half) to do a freaking oil change and tire rotation?!?! I now remember why I pay $5 more to go to jiffy lube. I took my car to this place for an oil change. I had to wait over an hour for them to do it. About a week later, I took my car to another mechanic for an unrelated problem, and they asked me if I wanted my oil changed because it was dirty. I was incredulous at first, but Midas had never actually changed my oil. When I complained, they referred me back to the Guad manager. This guy obviously did not believe me and was somewhat dismissive. I never went back and I never will. read more

The place is a sham. ripped off. Took my Nissan in to have the starter replaced. I was told that the thermostat would need to be replaced as well. But I decided to take my car elsewhere with any future repairs due to how pushy the mechanic was being while explaining the issues with my car. Over a couple phone conversations and one in-person conversation I had to tell them multiple times to NOT touch the thermostat and only fix the starter. I just couldn't tell if it was an honest diagnosis and wanted a second opinion. The new mechanic found out that not only was the thermostat not working it had been removed from my car and never put back in! The most we could deduce was that the thermostat was removed while the new starter was being installed by Midas and never put back in. I have no idea why it was removed in the first place since I asked specifically for it to not be touched, and if the removal was necessary why it wasn't put back in before giving me my car back. This was only on the heels of having to take my car back a second time to make sure the alignment was correct. As a UT employee, I went here for convienence. Came in for a vehicle inspection last week. Found out I needed new front tires. They quoted me over $400! I went to Daves Ultimate and got them installed for $280! Now I'm held hostage here on my only day off waiting for the inspector. He wasn't here yesterday. I don't have time for this shit! This place sucks! If Daves Ultimate was open, I would go get it re inspected there, it would be worth the $7.00! read more

We all know there are only two ways to do things, the right way and again. This location has chosen the later method. I brought my Jeep in for a new battery, what we al know as perhaps the simplest mechanical task. However, their "experienced" technician decided it was appropriate to replace my battery with a battery that was obviously too large for the car. After noticing that the hood of my vehicle failed to close correctly and there was a dent in my hood from the oversized battery, I took it back to them to remedy the problem. They never did offer to fix the damage to my hood. So there was another hour of my time wasted to have on the same issue. Just when you think the story would end!! I had to bring the car back to them because the battery started to fail and was under manufacturer's warranty. So after waiting for a replacement and paying them labor to have yet another "experienced" technician replace the battery, I noticed this morning that they had "warrantied" my battery with an inferior brand than was purchased. When asked why they had done this. Their response was they no longer carried that brand. When asked why I was't notified this before or after they charged me labor for a warranty repair, their response "I don't know". When asked what their solution was, response "bring it back and we will put the old battery back in and you can go somewhere else to get the warranty battery." So yet another wasted trip and time. To add insult to injury, their "experienced" technician decided it was appropriate to use air tools to remove the terminals from the battery. Now the terminals are stripped and need to be replaced!! Thank you Midas for solving my problems, sarcasm added. I cannot recommend this company for any work. If they can't replace a simple battery correctly, I shudder to think what they are capable of for other more critical repairs.
