Ray was also incredibly helpful in explaining how to properly back up my data and what steps to take if something like this happens again. He even helped me back up my MacBook to iCloud. I called them at 5:50pm and spoke with Ray "I think he is the owner" anyway I told him what was going on and he said to come on down and that he would wait for me. When I arrived I noticed that they have a big Yelp banner on the window, I walked in and spoke with Ray about the problem and showed him a picture of what the error was, he was up front with me and explained that if the hard drive was bad that he would not be able to save my data. I told him to do his best to save my data. The next day he texted me with a quote and said that he would be able to fix it and save my data. I told him to fix it. About 3 hours later he texted me again and said to come on by and pick it up. Now when I arrived he didn't just give me my computer and send me on my way, he sat me down and explained that I have 3 different options to save my data just in case the hard drive or computer crashes in the future. He also said that if I'm not sure how to back up the hard drive or need help with anything to call him and he would walk me through it. When all was said and done, he charged me $299 out the door and my machine is working flawlessly!! Thank you Ray! You got a customer for life.

I took it to Apple the next day and they recommended buying a new laptop since the cost of repair would be almost the same price. This process would wipe the data clean which I hadn't backed up. They told me I could send it out to have the data recovered through their trusted third party companies. When I called that company, they quoted me anywhere from 800 to 4k for the job. Being thin on options, I googled Macbook repair and this business came up (I made sure to check all the reviews). The communication was one of the best I've experienced. I sent it in and they repaired it in 2-3 days with everything there, it was as if the laptop was never damaged. All the data was kept and everything works perfectly. Not to mention the cost was 1/5 the price of what I would've had to otherwise pay through Apple. When I came to collect the laptop and pay, the technician greeted me at the door and shook my hand telling me everything he did. I immediately flipped the laptop over, shut it down, and left it upside down while I ran to the store for rubbing alcohol. I carefully wiped down the keyboard and called this place as soon as they reopened on the 26th. For context, Apple told me the computer would likely never work again and tried to sell me a new one. This shop was reassuring on the phone and accepted the drop-off right after the holiday break. The employee we spoke with (may have been the owner considering how competent and dedicated he was) was extremely kind at drop off. I had my computer back within 48 hours, before New Year's Eve, after a deep internal clean. They confirmed the cleaning was successful, that there was no risk of corrosion over time, and no expected shortening of the computer's lifespan. Remember you should always have a phone number of a reputable repair shop that has remote service available. Patrick called me and said it would be $200 for advanced diagnostics and he suggested to go along with it rather than buying a new laptop. This is always a good question to ask is it worth fixing?
